  1. I like the idea that the system is designed in a way that permits degrees of complexity. However, I also feel like there is something obscuring about the way they create a numbered list that feels like a hierarchy for rules.

Still I think there is a lot of promise with the idea even if it amounts to simply them admitting that you can have fun with the game even if you strip away some of the more nuanced rules which has always been the truth for introductory games.

I dislike Darkling coven and Order Serpentis beacuse their inclusion in the army is......stretching their inclusion was just imply putting Delves in the lore and models and felt a place holder for the Ulgurothi

However i love Shadowblades and Scourge Privateer because they actually did something interesting with them in lore making them stand out from their predecessor.

Scourge are the navy of the CoS and are heavily tied closely to the Fortress city of Misthaven so them expanding the whole naval aspect with some pirate themes would help flesh out a major free city. they not just slaver like the days of the old world but rather empire back privateers, monster hunters & smugglers not to mention that we actually got a name character with close relationship with Callis and Toll; Arika Zenthe

Arika Zenthe - Age of Sigmar - Lexicanum

Shadowblades staying wound even be an issue coming how we got the whisperblades if they ever want to expand to an actual unit it wouldn't be that hard to include a shadowblade head option

I keep hoping we get a full on expansion of the Cities Naval Side. I love the Blackark Corsiars but I want something more swashbuckling like your image. I also keep thinking of a Duardin Gunnery crew that due to their short stature can more easily navigate bellow decks.

  3. I hope for accessibility sake that the colour coding is not hard to read for people with colour blindness, or those who require strong contrast between word and page to read. I assume that has been taken into consideration but I still don't want to see any additional barriers for this hobby.

I agree, GW probably has had their Skavens ready since before the second ed.

Yeah I think that we (as a community) massively under appreciate the lead times that GW needs to develop these big scale releases.

Love the optimisme 🙂, but in 6-8 years everything is possible. Lol, than there could be even Cathay, Kislev and Halflings for TOW and lots of new armies / units and AoS. 🙂. 6-8 years is a looong time.

I think this is clearly relative, I don't think 6-8 years is a really lengthy time for Games Workshop to develop a new design, commission artwork, create updated lore, detail new rules, work on a marketing strategy and eventually release an entirely reworked faction for Beasts of Chaos in Age of Sigmar while also working on updating all existing factions and possibly releasing some new ones that are earlier in their update queue for all their games.

I don’t even think that’s likely- Darkoath don’t fill the same niche, and there’s really not many ranges left to update to AoS:

    [...]

The only reason they would be going would be that the TOW team had enough influence to make it so, or GW wants to further bloat the second largest battletome in the game.

I didn't mean to suggest that Beasts were actually going away, or that they would fulfill the same niche as Darkoath. I was merely suggesting that if they were squatted for the edition, that until they got an eventual update, that proxying them would be a possible way of continuing to use the models that people put so much time and effort into.

In other words I was just trying to create a hypothetical contingency for those of us that are worried that one of our favourite factions might not get rules support for some time. I also am not meaning to stoke the fires of anxiety, but simply trying to figure out a way to still find some degree of hope in seeing Beasts of Chaos on the tabletop in response to these rumours.

I really hope the rumours turn out to be false and to look back at this post and laugh.

  6. Everyone is sad about Beasts rumours including me.

Yet the Squats are back, Sisters have an updated army, Chaos Dwarves are getting a rumoured release. Even Silent people got some artwork. Beasts still exist in lore and technically featured first in the AOS cinematic through their god marked brethren. I think that there will be an edition or two of proxying Ungors as Darkoath, Gors as Warriors and Bestigors as Chosen before we get a massive return of our beloved beasts more mutated, surreal and savage than we ever could have imagined.

  7. As a filthy casual I love 40k 10th edition and will likely love 4th Edition AOS even more. I have lucked out with friends that are not overly competitive and willing to indulge in some fun narrative and light house rules to help make the games more fun for everyone.

I am always a little concerned when one of my friends armies is considered to be over powered by the competitive scene, only to play alongside my friends and see that they are not playing the meta lists and it always ends up being a pretty fun time.

  8. So I came into the stream a little late after getting home from a farewell party for a friend, I also made the mistake of watching it on Twitch and seeing the comments was as disheartening as ever. Turns out that Warhammer fans don’t hate AOS they hate everything (except Space Marines).

40k — Chaos Reveals I missed the character reveals but the models look pretty cool and intimidating. Despite my love for Chaos I feel these box sets feel rather uninspired. Maybe I am underwhelmed relative to the amazing Chaos Reveals we have had in AOS recently. I always feel this way with Chaos Space Marines and I am starting to except that I don’t know if I will ever make the jump. I have my Chaos Knights to show my love to the Dark Gods in 40K. Still with the right theme and concept I feel like I'd jump on board.

Kill Team — Now this is what I am talking about. The League models in their jackets are just exceptional and the addition of characters for the Gene Stealers makes this a really cool entry point for the army. But also poses the risk of alienating people that already own those models. I have loved the terrain for this season and despite loving generators these feel a little oddly proportioned and aesthetically different from the rest of the season. Still a nice addition to a great set.

Horus Heresy and Necromunda — If I was watching for these systems I would be pretty devastated. Still new takes on Admech sound cool and I guess fighting in mines or something could be neat?

Old World — I will always love the setting and game but these sculpts really drive home how little I am interested in returning to the system for the time being. The new character models are great but they look jarring next to some of the old models. I feel like I will try and get some Regiment tray convertors for my Slaves to Darkness and play that way especially as my Knights and Warriors are mostly from WHFB so won’t look out of place.

Warcry — Best game with one of my favourite reveals. The Ossiarchs really found a way to lean into the composite construct idea in more fascinating and cool ways. I am heart broken that we have once more skirted the chance of Kurnothi but these vine heavy bee keepers are so up my alley as to be perfect. The terrain piece is terrific but also odd to get another Sarlacc pit so soon. Probably my Favourite model reveals of the show and sadly I don’t play either.

Underworlds — Things I did not see coming! The Flesh Eater Courts are wonderful as always and love the idea of them being chefs. The Cities cultists… I have been waiting to see how the updated cultists will look and what we got was so out of left field that I don’t know how indicative they will be of future release. Still characterful and strange in a truly Age of Sigmar fashion. I don’t know if I will pick them up and might even lean away from the cultist side as I thin they are beyond my skill as a hobbyist but they are fascinating.

    Now onto the main event

AOS — Dawnbringers, I am sad we didn’t get the Darkoath reveal at this moment as it would have made a great reveal even greater. The Lady is unbelievable and with two units of Varanguard in my army she’ll be a natural fit. I am a little sad that like Archaon the silhouette is so dependent on the mount. But I love the model and lore, her spear creating Spawn sounds like a fun mechanic and I can see her adding to my overly large army.

4.0 — I won’t get too far into it as there is too much to cover. But it was an unbelievably cool reveal and Stormcast just get better with each release. Skaven have never suited my play style but their design’s are fantastic and this seems like such a great expansion of their range. I probably won’t get the box as I have a full Stormcast Army and no room for a horde army. My partner called me during the discussion of rules so I will have to play catch up but they seemed interesting.

The interesting thing for me is that I really loved the reveals, but the one thing I think I am most likely to get is the Lady of Ruin. But can't wait to see the others on the tabletop.

looks like my guess might've been right!! now to hope this isn't cult of the wheel, but something else Azyrite

I have been wondering how to expand my cities and leaning towards the cultists side... but if that is the amount of intricate detail I can expect then Ironweld it is....

At least it's not a primaris lieutenant which is... something I guess

Fabius Bile: I have cracked the code for creating Primaris Geneseed...

Abaddon: Perfect put it into all of our Lieutants.

Bile: B..b...but between my mastery of genetics and the gifts of the chaos... I can develop Marines of unequa....

Abaddon: Look Primaris lieutenants are the only way the Imperium is funding this war and we need to make some of our own.

    Meanwhile in the Mortal Realms:

    Nagash: MOAR VAMPIRES!!!

  12. I am trying to tell myself that I don't need the starter set. But the Blanche-cast are mighty tempting... maybe just one or two to lead my army... but then again if I buy the starter set I can choose who leads my army and get some rats...

Whatever happened to this thing, I feel like it’s been years since this concept got shown. It was for Necromunda but would work very well as a Skaven Spawn.

    SO hyped!!!
I am calling it now the Sigmar Lied text is more than simply the Skaven or Forging process this edition is going to be about shaking confidence in Sigmar. I don't think it will become a grim dark setting but I think that the unity of Order will be shattered with the Skaven representing the way Chaos emerges in systems of order. Nagash will feel vindicated and of course with Destruction working on the gates Azyr will be laid open.

What about Warcry? Won't somebody please think of Warcry?

Considering how much GW is targeting my bank account specifically I am going to guess that the next warcry announcement will feature Stormcast vs Ogors to really give a chance for all my armies to squeeze out every penny from me.

Next thing you know Kill Team will feature Necrons vs Chaos Knight Pilots.

  17. Wow these are amazing, I don't want to lean too heavily into the Darkoath side as I am happy with my Warcry units to scratch my Maruader itch but that wilderbeast and the cavalry are very tempting.

But I just got offered a nice little contract and this gets announced right after the Cities Spearhead and Callis and Toll... seems like the divine will of the Chaos Gods for me to remain destitute.

Dawnbringers V next week! In addition, the first few Vanguards they've unveiled and a new (?) Calis & Toll novel, as well as standalone Warcry terrain pieces.

Well there goes my food budget for the month. Luckily nothing FOMO in terms of release but I really want to get that Cities Spearhead and the Saviours of Cinderfall set.

  19. Okay so I had an exhausting two-three days and forgot there was announcements this weekend... more specifically I woke up with a headache not knowing it was the weekend. Yet I felt a little let down by the reveals... Initially.

Big Mek - It is well sculpted and pretty cool but overall I find 40k Orks aren't my favourite aesthetic. I think the box is a cool set as I like big robots, but I think that the build without the crazy claw ray gun looks just like the myriad of other gun toating orks and doesn't scream 'mek' unit. Not bad but not enough to get pique my interest.

Shield Captain - As someone that dislikes Space Marines and the Imperium I have a soft spot for Custodes. Something about a bunch of Baroque Royal Guard that just hits the right mix of Star Wars and Dune for me to be interested. I also don't mind the dated less realistic proportions on Custodes as it suits their ornate armour... but this model's pose just reads awkwardly. However that box set might be an instant purchase for me as it is a good chunk of an army that can be painted in some cool and unique ways... might make some fallen Custodes and trigger some lore fans.

Gunnar Brand - I have really loved the recent characterful releases to the point of wanting to theme my cities army around bands of heroes. The sculpts here are amazing and I want to like them... except there is a horse... which should make me happy as I love cavalry but it just speaks to the confused design philosophy of these units as it hampers the point of a cavalry archer. So looking at this unit makes me feel conflicted as I think it is a terrific set but one that will have confused rules that keep me from these terrific models... except possibly for hero proxies.

Blood Bowl - Okay no complaints these are sweet! Might need to get some of these and the halflings and decide between running them as Gnoblars or something for Cities (Probably Executioners as we know that Geese are killers)

Misc. Chaos - Feeling a little deflated that despite some cool reveals other than my interest in a box set with an ugly hero and a warband that I love but will probably skip this wasn't really for me... then I come on TGA and get these screen grabs of Darkoath Cavalry, a Wendigo Spawn beast, a Darkoath mounted general. That is when I ask myself... can I really buy that much more Chaos? Mercy GW I am trying to build other armies, please give this attention to Kharadron, Idoneth, Fyreslayers, Beasts of Chaos, Leagues of Votann and Harlequins.

  20. Step one: Buy Skaven
Step Two: Hide them from my partner
Step three: When she eventually finds them in our small apartment tell her that we have a rat infestation
Step Four: Tell her I have hired an exterminator and purchase Callis and Toll.

  21. I have always wanted Warcry and Killteam to kind of work as an alternative to AOS and 40k's starter sets. If we get Chaos and Order with 4.0, then I would like Warcry to have a starter set featuring Death and Destruction. They can have a large set with terrain, two competing warbands, a unit of wandering beasts and a hero for each side. Then they can release a smaller boxset with the just the two warbands and scatter terrain. Then they can keep the dual boxes with a large terrain piece as new releases.

Furthermore they can focus on a different realm from the main narrative to help open up the narrative to include more factions.

I do think that having the next Warcry edition focused on a Mordheim style setting with some houses would be terrific. Maybe a large building (church) and two smaller ones (houses) with some walls would be a good start. Then the first dual box could have a medium sized building and so on until you can build a little city board.

So as a hypothetical for a new Warcry set, we could have Grave Guard fighting against Spiderfang in a dilapidated city. If you get the entry level box they'd come with some fences, walls and barricades. If you opted for the larger set a new Necromancer and Scuttleboss would join the fight alongside some buildings and a few bases of spider swarms for random encounters.
