  1. It's fun because it seems that with every new system we need to rediscover that different people approach the game differently and enjoy different ways to play. Hopefully we'll also reach the usual conclusion quickly: both approaches (game as a puzzle to solve/game as a story to tell) are valid and the only condition is that you have a good honest communication with the other player/with your gaming group about what you are looking for in the specific game.

Ok, what if the one that is killed by Korghos (prior to winning his ascension) is Gavriel trying to save/ saving Vandus? It would be a clever move. You put back an old character, give him some love and his pinch of fame, and remove one scroll in one blow. At the same time with that plot you kind of discover what is going on with Vandus.

It would make sense considering the abysmal treatment that Gavriel got in the 3.0 SCE battletome, leading him to be completely forgotten for the entire duration of the edition :( so basically, if no one has bought him for his rules during the past 3 years, it's quite OK to cut him from the battletome

My opponent will play dwarves with 3 heroes, 3 units (17 longbeards and 10 quarrellers + 10 thunderers) ad 2 cannons, but really, we'll be mostly learning how to play 😅

So you're saying all the stuff in the narrative about Morghur, the Witherdwell, Ghorraghan Khai, and the Turnskin Plague will just be dropped completely without explanation?

I think (and that's what Rob THW said last time we had this discussion on this forum) that the miniature range is going, not Beast of Chaos as a faction. So, basically, the Cities situation++ : more models squatted without replacement and all units "replaced" actually get a new name and aesthetic (Freeguild -> Steelhelms) in order to make it possible but difficult/temporary to use the old models.

With six wide you are also "always" getting full attacks. I believe 4 wide is very viable option as well for units like elven spearmen or dwarfs, where few additional s3 attacks won't make much difference to the static resolution of keeping the max ranks as long as possible.

I think you need at least 5 wide to get the combat resolution bonus at least for elven spearmen (Regular infantry)

EDIT: and I was correct. Now if only I had also read the rest of the thread before posting I would have seen many of you had already pointed this out :D

I dont know why they cant at least do just the same on the freaking Warcom articles. Its so disrespectful to talk about your artists that design the bulk of your products whitout using surnames...

Even to know the artists' full names you gotta buy a printed publication :D

Great idea using them as shades! I will steal that xD

Funny thing, I used the Shadowstalkers I had lying around (bought them to use as allies for my SCE but then lost that possibility) to make Wardancers and a Spellsinger/Spellweaver for my Wood Elves

It's funny, because all they need is to write them a good warscroll and people would rush to buy all the stock out. And seeing how the Black Knights have, eventually, become somewhat relevant, maybe not all hope is lost yet.

considering (if memory serves) the vast majority of people who buy GW minis literally never or veeeery rarely play with them, I am not even sure that would have a particularly noticeable impact

The first Warhammer World TOW tournament is set at 1500 points and adds a "rule of three" for not otherwise restricted units:

I think I like this format alot (including using the AoS-size tables). 1500 seems more palatable in terms of game length for my present availability of free time. I'll try to push it to my clubmates saying that "it's official" :D

I would love somthing like that. But i have 2 cats and an almost 3 year old daughter XD. Maybe sometime in the future i can build a dedicated hobby space in the attic. But that space needs a serious renovation first.

funnily, me switching to the secretary desk was precisely due to the arrival of my daughter: 1) because I lost my office/hobby room which became her bedroom (the little thief!), 2) because the secretary desk can be locked :D but I can see how trying to paint with the cats jumping on the table might be a real challenge

for example me and my buds are holdimg of a 500points path to glory in aos, and basically chose to house rule the restrictions slighlty

same, we're playing a couple of 500-750 pts games of tOW to learn the rules next weekend and we're using the restrictions as if we were playing at 1000pts (but still respect the percentages)

I already see people online complaining about how Woodelfs are impossible to beat and not fun to play against. And the game has not even been out for a week.

tbh I would take first week discussions about balance of a completely new edition/game with 16 completely new battletomes all dropping at the same time with a pinch of salt

The chariots and monsters even have the lumbering rule that specifically says that they follow all the rules for close order (of which one is having the +1 CR from combat order).

Don't you need to be in a formation "that is wider than it is deep" in order to be in "Combat order" and get the CR bonus?

  14. I put in "daily" cause it's closer to that than to "weekly", but of course it changes and it's almost always short sessions (10-30mins) so what helps is to have a painting space well organised and ready to go (I have a secretary desk in the living room and I leave there my ongoing project, so it's basically: open, sit down, get painting, put down the stuff, close, run to catch the train)

I don't know about that.  IME faction discussion tends to collect in individual threads, and you don't need over a dozen subforums with only one really active thread each.  Maybe a subforum each for forces of fantasy, ravening hordes, and legacy armies?

Let's double down on the arbitrary categorisation and let's have one GOOD and one EVIL forum!

  16. After a quick skim (so, hot take, pinch of salt and all that) they look a really developed product, some of them (Daemons) are in fact longer in sheer number of pages than army lists in Forces of Fantasy/Ravening Hordes. It surely doesn't feel like a "legended" situation -of course, only time will tell.

this part at the end genuinely made me laugh : "the rules are intended for people who already have armies in their collection"

Considering that you can right now buy most of these armies from the actual GW store, as opposed to (most of) the "core" ones

Imo scenery cannot simply disappear. We cannot play games at a table with a matt and that's all.

I would say already now (other than if you play exclusively in a GW store) most games are played on tables which do not use GW terrain kits. They tend to be too expensive and not really good in terms of gaming: no pieces to block line of sight, no flat areas where units can stand on etc. So, in a way GW is already letting 3d parties and the community fill that space, it wouldn't be shocking if they stopped selling it altogher (although I agree it seems unlikely)

This is going to be controversial but I hope GW kills Calanax so Vandus has an extra reason to go cuckoo. Make him a foot SCE with a strong grimdark flair.

I'll accept new SCE foot heroes only if 4 others are merged together/into a unit for each new one. Please, have mercy.

Talking about ascended Khul and Vandus. I think ascended Khul is obviously easy to visualise, but what about Vandus? Just "another" Stormcast with Thunderstrike armour. How would you visualise a renewed Vandus that pops from the mass of the golden boys? Keeping his dracothian mount? Something else?

I think he'll just go thunderstrike with a strong gothic vibe à la Ionus. The dracoth will stay, become leaner and meaner, and will be the test for the resculpt of the whole dracothian guard.
