  1. I wonder how it will be handled the other way around: How many AoS models will get Oldworld rules? I mean, every single unit in my Mawtribes army originated in the old world anyway. But even most units specifically designed for AoS could easily fit in the Oldworld without too much of a stretch.
Maybe the Lumineth, with their very traditional/high elven spearmen and riders and their more AoS high fantasy temples were specifically designed to be partially useable in the Oldworld?

Would also be clever saleswise, giving an AoS army owner something of a head start/incentive to build an Oldworld force based on his army, while still needing additional models

@mrcamp1990 30x Arrow Boys in Big Waaagh could come in very useful in this matchup.  You can cast their buff spells from the backboard (out of shooting range) because they have 24" casting range.  So you can set them up aggressively and still keep your Heroes safe.

Most important spell will probably be Hand of Gork to get them in range, so buff the casting on that one.

They force a decent volume of saves with no rend, which should be enough to pop the Aetherwings given that they don't have a save.  They are not good in combat, but should force the odd save here and there if you need to charge in and finish off a unit of birds (or if they move into combat with you).   It's even worth charging the Longstrikes if you can: Arrow Boys are +2 to charge natively and will kill the odd model on a 4+ save, and force them to shoot into your pile of wounds for a turn or two.  Then you can move up your combat units for the killing blow.

You'll need access to Mighty Destroyers (via the Ironfist Batallion or Brutish Cunning CT) to get your hammer units up into threat range on the turn you shoot off the birds.

Within Ogors, have you considered taking Yhetees?  They can get up the field quickly (run 15" then pile in 6"), then you can blow up the birds with one unit, leaving the second unit free for its 6" pile in.  Winterbite could be worth a try in this case, for the -1 to be hit and the extra movement on Yhetees.

Gorgers are another one to look at: you can start them off the board (= safe from shooting), then they can come on 9" away and hopefully blow up the birds, after which it's game on.  They'll be on a 9" charge but they do reroll that natively, you could even invest in Cogs for the matchup (will help you start off far away then get up the board quickly).

Finally, remember that the Longstrikes only get the +6" range in the Shooting phase, not the Hero phase.  A lot of people do that wrong.  You can deploy 24.1" away and only take Shooting phase damage.

A frostsaber/hunter ambush can do the same as the gorgers, but better for a higher investment. And they mix well with Winterbite.

Mournfangs can also be fast and painful for shooters.

GW certainly does not seem to make any attempts to shut down 1d4chan and "man reads book" on youtube. As well as AoS reminders and Warscroll Builder for that matter. Between all of those, you certainly de facto don't need to buy books for rules. I mean, if the intent is that books are luxury/convenience products, but GW is fine with everyone getting the rules elsewhere, that's OK with me.

I‘d imagine they don’t really care, as long as sales numbers are ok. It’s a mixed bag for GW: After all, I think many later customers (me included) were drawn into one or multiple GW games because they got intrigued by the details of one or the other army/warband/killteam while reading on the internet. They still buy models, after all. And once they are into an army, the completionist kicks in, and they buy the books too.

I never understood why people use the coronavirus to defend GW.

Granted, they couldn't know what would happen in 2020, but we have had, what, 5 releases since LML wave 1 and 2? By my count we've had Sons of Behemat, Warcry Catacombs (if that counts), Slaanesh, BR: Morathi, anything else? The way I see it, coronavirus actually made GW appear less ******, as it spaced their 2 waves of LML more. Without the virus we could have ended up with LML wave 1 in April and LML wave 2 in November/January.

Moreover, given the prices of the LML, the fact that now we'll need 2 books to play the army, and the fact they did know of wave 2 when they released wave 1, and could have added the warscrolls in the battletome, I think it's pretty clear this is a greedy move on GW's part.

I, for one, will vote with my wallet.

I don’t defend anyone, I just try to understand the attack. Corona rattled the whole gaming and tournament scene, and conceivably changed the focus of many hobbyists during the last months. There‘s also a lot of possible logistic, production and distribution problems that could play in. GW, as any company, has to take all that into account and constantly readjust its course to continue prospering (can’t blame them for that I think. They, as we, didn’t invent capitalism).

Maybe the initial Lumineth release was planned a lot earlier, but was pushed back. Maybe the second release was planned for a later date. Who knows. But I surely don’t see cheating.

  5. So far, I bought exactly one battletome. Found out there’s nothing in it ruleswise that I hadn’t read before in the internet plus warscroll app. I feel like just like warscroll cards, you buy battletomes for convenience. And lore and artwork. All of the crunch can be found elsewhere for free, if you want/need to go cheap. It’s pretty fair, I think.

  6. People complaining that their faction doesn’t get updated with new models and rules fast enough. And now people complaining that they get updated too fast. Not easy to please Warhammer fans. 😄

Seriously, I‘m quite sure it wasn’t planned that way. But, Corona.

While it's fake, how would people feel if it did replace LoN as the main faction? Assuming we don't get a redo of everything in Death, it would let people run old fashioned vampire counts with skeletons and zombies, while also allowing others to just run vampires in a subfaction.

For me it would make the whole Death faction more interesting. And a Vampire army very tempting.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. I've always felt Mawtribes offered an unusually high number of solid choices.

(Even though the Ogor armies I've run use a maximum of 4 warscrolls, haha.)

My current Ogor build uses around 7 for 1500 points. I still like the choices, though. Still much to explore.

  9. As many as possible!

There is no army where I like every model. Redundancy gives me the option to circumvent battleline, hero or elite models I don’t like.

Also, more room for creative combinations to develop new tactics. For example, in the Ogor thread someone combined an Avalgr Ancient Thundertusk with Ironguts in a Winterbite tribe. Who would have thought of that? But it works.

And, thirdly, armies don’t look so samey if they have a wider range of creatures, and if they fit together, they still look like a coherent enough force.

  10. I am thinking more and more that wargaming miniatures HAVE to be a bit exaggerated to bring their point across. If they don’t scream MALE or FEMALE or ORC or ELF at you from 3-4 feet across the table, they just don’t work as what they‘ve been designed for. So the Alternative to exaggerated gender stereotypes would be (factually, seen from across the table) no gender at all.

  11. I just looked it up. The procedure for exporting goods from GB to the EU is a flowchart spanning 4 pages. It’s a nightmare. Also seems that in some cases, tax has to be paid beforehand, and can later be refunded.
I can now fully understand any seller who doesn’t really know what to do. Personally, I’ll wait until the process runs smoother.
