  1. Hey gents, I had a question regarding the twin stones: if you are using the endless spell ability of the twin stones on your own LRL units, does Celennar's ability deal d3 mortal wounds on a 4+ to any enemy unit within 18? That just seems so broken to me and not what was intended but I wanted to get your expertise as I am just a filthy casual. Thanks!

Yes it affects our Daemon heroes, its a nice bonus but the only Tzeentch Daemon Hero that wants to be in melee is a Daemon Prince, useful to have if one of our other heroes gets stuck in somehow though.

Thank you kind sir! It is much appreciated. I was thinking if a LOC for example ended up in combat or someone got a cheeky charge off it would be good to have. This army looks like it is going to take some finessing!

  3. I was really hoping for the battalion to buff our Namarti in some way to make them more playable in comp settings as well and not feel like a tax. Still holding out hope for the new warscrolls. Essentially, we have really strong units in Eels and Volty but everything else needs to be buffed and playstyles need changing as more options are needed. I love Deepkin and the Lore but they are sitting in storage while I play with my KO at this time. I just got sick of Eel spam and wait for High Tide. I know you can play narrative and fluffy casual games without this but having options that make your army feel different is nice and being able to enjoy casual and competitive is important to me personally. I play Harlequins in 40k and the small unit count can just do so much while Deepkin after enough games just feel a little stale. Fingers crossed though :p. I don't like being a negative neckbeard but IDK need some changes; the Warhammer Weekly episode dedicated to them was great if anyone is interested.

Thats my list with the same goals in mind - ok, 12 eels, but with every game I play, I want more eels... 🥴

    Allegiance: Idoneth Deepkin
    - Enclave: Dhom-Hain
    Akhelian King (230)
    - General
    - Bladed Polearm
    - Command Trait: Born From Agony
    - Artefact: Sanguine Pearl
Eidolon of Mathlann, Aspect of the Storm (360)
    - Artefact: Cloud of Midnight
    Isharann Soulscryer (130)
    3 x Akhelian Ishlaen Guard (140)
    6 x Akhelian Morrsarr Guard (340)
    3 x Akhelian Morrsarr Guard (170)
    1 x Akhelian Allopexes (100)
    - Razorshell Harpoon
    10 x Namarti Reavers (120)
    Akhelian Leviadon (310)
    Akhelian Corps (100)

Love this list 😍. God I hope the Morathi book makes list building viable in competitive formats with the Eidolon and Turtle!

I feel this is an important point.

I'm constantly around other people with geeky hobbies like my own, video games, chess, etc and in general, I would never really recommend to any of them to get into Warhammer. Certainly not the larger scale games. And that's in my work life, where I work in an industry that in general, people are earning enough to have enough hobby money to be spending it at GW's prices.

Heck, I feel bad buying some stuff as well. I've certainly noticed in recent years, I don't really want to buy a lot of new stuff. In part because I've got an existing backlog of armies from previous editions and unmade models, but also in part because the prices are so high on new models (in particular armies of only new models - stormcast excluded although the price of characters is hard to stomach). I actually have warmed up to most of the aesthetics of Lumineth, but heck if I'm going to drop 1kAUD on 1k points of Lumineth.

Nowadays if I was going to suggest getting into the wargaming hobby, I'd probably be recommending something like Warcry, Underworlds or Bloodbowl, or perhaps another system with cheaper models if they wanted to jump into the big army based games.

But for a hobby that prides itself on word of mouth, the fact that the mouths don't want to suggest getting in (albeit knowing it's far too late for themselves!) is a big problem.

I think when you said "I would never really recommend to any of them to get into Warhammer", you hit the nail on the head for me too. I haven't thought about it but I never really recommend the game to friends despite absolutely loving it. I got into Warhammer after not playing for 16 years (played when I was 15) due to a serious injury preventing consistent muay thai like before and wanted to get into something new. I was blown away at how far the minis have come and how much more popular the game is and the lore etc. My friends are more into sports I guess but are definitely still into things like video games and even WOW. If the barrier to entry wasn't so high I think I would be much more inclined to try. When we get together at my place I often show my minis with an "ouuuu and ahhhh" haha but I can't think of one person I know that would be as keen as me to spend this much on plastic toys (which I absolutely love doing...common new Soulblight take my MONEY).

Your guess is on point, that is definitely a canid style foot, with the one vestigal toe (dewclaw) separated from the rest of the pad and higher up on the leg.

dare I hope for a new soulblight faction? Or are we just seeing bits of a new underworlds soulblight themed warband?

I am thinking Soulblight or 'Death' themed warband. Maybe a larger one. But my hope is a fully fledged Soulblight army with Vamps and Werewolves and heck even Pumpkin Head Scarecrow monsters. But If that is not going to happen I would be happy with a Death tome along the lines of the Cities of Sigmar book that was very customizable.  After listening to the newer Neferata audiobook it made me have an itch to paint up some skellies. Giving those skellies so much character was awesome.

A great strength of our hobby is there is so much to pick and choose from and pretty much something for everyone.

GW is doing a much better job of supporting all their games these day so don't see it a weak week, see it as a break for your wallet!!

After all there will be hobbyists who aren't interested in AoS and will see that release as a weak week.

Great attitude my Ogre friend. I am not into LRL or Gargants which means time to get better at actually playing the game and enjoying what I have while keeping my wallet secure from all the GW products that make me want to own everything. One Gargant's trash is another Gargant's treasure. Here is hoping for new 40k Aeldari models and Soulblight for my collection in 2021 as I don't want to save too much money 🙃

Can anyone share his/her experiences with running a 4 shark unit of Allopexes

I understand that Morsarr are our best unit. But I often struggle to instantly delete what I was charging due to bad rolls or poor judgement. Without the charge bonus they hit like wet noodles.

Allopexes don’t lose their rend and with King/Volti buff makes them fairly strong in a bigger unit. Sure they don’t Re-roll their charges consistently and battleshock is our bane but I would love to see them being played and wether I should invest into 2 more sharks

My personal experience with them isn't great. I run them in fun lists but I prefer running 1-2 for cheap objective grabbers and taking a few pot shots. I know there are people who have a great experience with them but not so much on my end. I ran a squad of 3 last week and just wished I had Morrsarr :p. The Morathi book is coming out and may have some Idoneth updates and I would hope Sharks/Turtle/Eidolon will all improve. My 2 cents.

you have to say that's magnificent

Every good Vampire knows you have to get a good pump before a long night's work 👻. Nosferatu clearly did too much cardio and paid the price. I have a feeling all these Death themed rumour engines are going to be for one of the skirmish games but I would be super happy if AOS was getting a Soulblight army.

Looks like IDK might be the undercard in the new Broken Realms: Morathi book.  The piece of art looks awesome.  Here’s to hoping for an Underworlds warband, Endless Spells, or new models and rules soon-ish!

Here weee gooooo - Bruce Buffer announcing Volturnos before he whoops some DOK ass. Here is hoping for some fun artwork and lore and rules for under used units like Namarti. Super stoked for this. The artwork for the battle between the IDK and DOK makes me happier then a Turtle in a soul pond. I am happy with cool spells and some way to cast while avoiding Teclis/Kroak and their ridiculous unbinds otherwise I am staying magic free.

Anyone else hoping we don't get endless spells just for the fact you would have to carry those along with the shipwrecks too? It is like I am carrying around 2 armies not to mention all the glue for when the eels fall off their stands 😂.

In the future potentially every Faction could have a piece of Scenery. What Scenery would you like to see for which Faction?

Personally I'd love to see a massive Gargant encampment ramshackle hut. Or a massive wooden throne made from felled trees roughly hewn together.

I would have to say cool terrain that is designed for looks purposes to be part of a specific faction is awesome but the specific faction terrain that has associated rules in AOS like my Gloomtide Shipwrecks or any other large faction terrain pieces I would say none for me please. Carrying around my boxes of plastic is rough enough before adding any large terrain pieces. I know some get upset when an army is updated with no faction specific terrain but personally when my KO didn't get anything I was pretty relieved. But to each their own! I do love me some good terrain though.

Maybe show something close to a little respect for people who are not the same as you.

Calling people you've never met "absolutely mad"  and implying they are socially inept is really uncalled for.

Maybe be a little less insecure? We know no one lives in an attic at the hobby store and the last line was in reference to the shining for emphasizing how painting the same mini can be maddening (hopefully that word didn't upset you as well). I didn't think you were socially inept until that comment to be honest. But this is for rumours I guess and not jokes or neckbearding around so we should probably end with agree to disagree.

Big unit blobs are likely also the bane of painters who want to play. Painting the same dude 30x2 times is pretty boring, unless you are really into the meditation thing or “lower the bar.”

You hit the bar 100% here. There is the odd guy/girl who is absolutely mad and enjoys sitting there painting the same model 60-120 times but that same person probably has full on conversations with themselves and maybe their models too and lives in the attic at your local game store 🙃. Looking into DOK right now and the thought of someone painting 60+ witch aelves is insane...balanced tomes prevent all work and no fun making nerds dull boys.

I'm not too concerned with whether DOK should be an elite army or use huge blocks of infantry.

I'm far more concerned that an army of naked knife psychos is so durable. That doesn't make any sense to me both in terms of aesthetics and gameplay. They really messed up when writing the rules for DOK.

Are you also very concerned with all the craziness that is Idoneth Deepkin and Fyreslayers? This is a fantasy game with little plastic toys and not very realistic.  Most of this doesn't make a lot of sense but it's still really fun 😄.

DoK also technically have the least model kits in AoS.

They "sort of" get away with it because most of them are modern kits and they have a lot of duel kits even if most are just weapon and head swaps. Their Cauldron kit is also very cheap when you consider the number of leaders you get from a single kit; but overall they are not a cheap army to collect. They look great though! I really hope that with a Warcry band and Underworld band we might even see a few more kits (even spells/terrain) for them at some stage "soon".

Of course they aren't alone, but when you then look at Flesheaters, who have similar problems but are much cheaper to collect because its pretty much all in the getting started set, its a funny comparison.

I am looking at getting into DOK soon and they may be the most expensive army I have ever looked into. A huge thing is that you can find deals for most armies online. I usually pay 25-50% off retail for most armies I collect and DOK I cannot find anywhere. They are just such a niche faction and I rarely see them on the tables. This makes me want to run them even more and I absolutely love the aesthetic though. I have never been into any of the skirmish games and still don't plan on playing them but I will be picking up the DOK warband just because of how cool it is. DOK are just so metal 💀. The only thing I would be really happy for release wise is tokens for all the prayers!

Just finished a small one dayer where I took first place. I used:

    Allegiance: Daughters of Khaine
    - Temple: Hagg Nar
    Bloodwrack Shrine (210)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Devoted Disciples
    - Lore of Shadows: Mindrazor
Hag Queen on Cauldron of Blood (290)
    - Artefact: Iron Circlet
    - Prayer: Blessing of Khaine
Morathi High Oracle of Khaine (480)
    - Lore of Shadows: Mindrazor
    20 x Blood Sisters (480)
    30 x Sisters of Slaughter (300)
    - Barbed Whips and Blade Bucklers
    10 x Sisters of Slaughter (120)
    - Barbed Whips and Blade Bucklers
    5 x Khinerai Heartrenders (90)

    Total: 1970 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 117

first game was against fyreslayers in knife to the heart. He had lords of the lodge and forge brethren battalions and long story short, it came down to the priority roll turn 5. He had the last remnants of his second hearthguard unit in place to take mine, and i had 7 or so snakes in place to take his. I rolled a 5, he rolled a 6... so he won the primary, but i got both auxiliaries and prevented him from getting one. (This ended up being a big deal).

Game 2 was against slaanesh in shifting objectives. 4 keepers and belakor. I let him go first and he scored 7 points for controlling all objectives with battleline on each. He revealed his choice for belakor in my turn, my sisters, but i got lucky and rolled the 5+ to let them swarm an objective. I use this turn to kill all of his battleline and sit on the objectives as well, scoring 7 myself. I score 7 points for the next 2 turns while slowly losing my entire army. He tables me top of turn 4, but ive already won the game on objective points and got both auxiliaries.

game 3 was against fyreslayers in forcing the hand. At this point, im playing for the overall win, as my first round opponent was kept from getting his auxiliaries in the previous game and so im up on him by one point. If I get a major win, score both auxiliaries, and prevent my opponent from getting one of his two, i win the event. This guy also had a lords of the lodge battalion, but with this gametype keeping the armies so far apart, he couldn't get his buffs in range when he tunneled up turn 1. He charged my unit of 30 sisters of slaughter and thanks to my reroll saves triumphs and some hot rolling, I only lost 8. My entire army spent the next turn fighting that one unit of berzerkers and I was able to bounce from one unit to the next over the course of the game thanks to how spread the objectives are in this mission. My heartrenders were able to snag the primary objective turn 2 from him which turned the game in my favor, and there was one objective he could never reach thanks to his slow movement, which made the choice of which objective to nominate to be his primary easy. I got an insurmountable lead by turn 3, got both of my auxiliaries, and kept him from getting one of his.

I won, with a single point separating 1st from 2nd and 2nd from 3rd. Playing fyreslayers twice wasn't ideal, as i think they arent a great matchup for us. They do the same thing we do, but better. Getting a mission that spread the objectives wsy out game 3 helped a lot against them. Theyre quite difficult to deal with in games like knife to the heart where they just need to be in one place. Im a big fan of forcing the hand. It was a fun mission and having such limited deployment led to some actual strategy in movement, since you can't just close the gap in one round easily. Now im praying for covid to settle so big events can get started again. This was a small event but it definitely filled that competitive play void ive been feeling.

Thanks for posting this! Always great to see written battle reports. I am hoping to do a few tournaments this year with my IDK. On a side note by god are DOK expensive lol. I will be doing a list like yours I believe and my wallet is already sad. And because DOK are such a niche faction there is not a lot of used stuff floating around.

  17. @Graywater just so you know that info is all really appreciated! I really wanted to run some skirmishing shooters but ya the scroll is so bad for the blood stalkers. I play IDK as my primary comp and semi comp army so I’m pretty good with not running forward like an orc these days but I know exactly what you are saying haha. When I first started that’s what I used to do *derp*. I could not play and not run the snaky ladies and Morathi just too cool. I’m taking everything you said into consideration much thanks :).

  18. Morathi High Oracle of Khaine (480)

    Bloodwrack Shrine (210)

Hag Queen on Cauldron of Blood (290)

    UNITS 30 x Witch Aelves (300) -

    10 x Blood Sisters (280)

    5 x Blood Stalkers (120)

    5 x Khinerai Heartrenders (90)

    5 x Blood Stalkers (120)

    10 x Shadow Warriors (110)

Any thoughts on this list? Do you think it would be solid?

Here's the list I use for events, just swap the sisters of slaughter for witch aelves and you're good:

    - General
    - Command Trait: Devoted Disciples

    - Artefact: Iron Circlet
    - Prayer: Blessing of Khaine
Morathi High Oracle of Khaine (480)
    - Lore of Shadows: Mindrazor
    20 x Blood Sisters (480)
    30 x Sisters of Slaughter (300)
    - Barbed Whips and Blade Bucklers
    10 x Sisters of Slaughter (120)
    - Barbed Whips and Blade Bucklers
    5 x Khinerai Heartrenders (90)

    Total: 1970 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 117

Thank you so much good sir! I may do a similar list and switch the 10 sisters of slaughters for Blood Stalkers. I know they aren't super competitive but right now with so many objectives they seem OK despite not being as strong as the witches. What do you think? How have you been doing with this list? I play Deepkin as my primary army but DOK are soooo metal haha and Morathi might be the nicest model ever made so I think I am going to take the plunge. I have been thinking about waiting until Christmas though as they usually have battle boxes or deals and DOK may get one you never know.

@JackStreicher Thanks! I love all the snaky ladies in this list. Without the Cauldron of blood how durable do you think they would be? Alos, any good recommendations for tactics videos for DOK?

  20. Hellllo, I am looking into DOK right now and thinking about starting an army. They definitely seem to be on the more expensive side as far as $ for 2000 pts is concerned. I am not looking necessarily to bring a destroy everything I play type of list but I was wondering if anyone could show me a sample list that’s still semi competitive And a list I could still show up to a one day tournament with the following models: Morathi, witch aelves and our snake lady friends. I want to get an idea of what the list could look like for financing as well. Would be much appreciated!
