Oh yes i would love to get wolf chariots back those where some of my moste beloved models. But sadly i think this is just templating.

    Agreed.

While it's not nice to have an army with natural 5+s to hit or wound, it's important for the diversity of the game to actually use the higher two numbers on a d6.

I think AoS began to suffer from everything feeling like it was on 3/3 or better (after buffs), so whether you were against highly trained elves or a horde of squigs it all felt very similar.

Personally, I'd like to see more models like zombies actually need 6s to hit, but for their strength to lie elsewhere - for example, being really easy to regenerate and super cheap.

In the very beginning of AoS 0, 4+ was the good average - hence why Stormcast and Khorne (elite armies) were on 2 attacks, 3/4/-/1. Quickly, everything began to tunnel down to more 3/3/-/1 profiles, and then rend became more common too. I think it ended up homogenising the game, and actually reducing the flavour (if everyone is super, no one's super kind of thing).

I don't think it'll happen, but I'd have actually liked to have seen more 'bad' warscrolls, so the average settles back higher, and truly elite models stand out.

On of the things that makes this a bit problemetic is that the higher two numbers on the d6 are way way way worse then the lower numbers 2/2 being  25 out of 36.  3/3 Being 16 out of 36  4/4 being 9  out of 36 and 5/5 =4 out of 36 and 6/6 1 out of 36.  The drop of at the end is really steep. A 3/3 model is 4x as likely to wound as a 5/5 model.  So you could make them 4x as expensive shure but the are also lots of spaceing problems  whit  that manny models.   WHit the lower stats the units become useless at dealing dammage.  So they must indeed find strengts elsewhere like just gumming up the board whit bodies. But that might be hard to ballance. On of the thing is worrie about whit 4th is that whit moral gone it's going to be possible to just drown an opponent in bodies and  the game beeing over from turn 1 since there is just no way to deal enough dammage in 5 turns to have a sifnificant impact.

  3. For me 3th edition was a great edition I woul have been happy to play 3th edition whit the occacional ghb until the end of time. While the constant ghb updates got a bit annoying when it was whitin half a year  they did keep te game fresh for me. If it was just once a year that would be great for me. In my region 3th edtion was pretty popular but the pandamic dit a lot of harm to the hoby in general. So there will still not all that manny games going on. As for the rules i did or did not like. I think the heroic actions where a bit of a miss.  Most of the time there was just not enough impact from the standard ones. Whit most ppl just going for the command point one. While some of the book specific ones where a bit broken. Oh you get a whole unit of wolves for free now do you. Well i am so glad i got a 50% 50% change to get a command point.

As for 4th it's a bit mixed for me.  A lot of the way the game is structured  seems really we;ll done. Leading to a much clearer game this i like a lot. But on the other hand the few untis that have been revealed seem to have a lot of gamble abilites.  And while a know the whole game is change anny way. Whit things like attacks beeing random to. But those just average out due to weight of dice and have only a minor impact on the tactics of the game. But thing like getting strike last because the opponent rolled a 4+ leave major consequences to a single roll of the dice. And i don't like that verry much. Of course it is great for drama and building a stroy whitin the game. But personally I like the tactical side of warhmmer more then the dice drama  side.

So for me it's a matter  waiting how much impact that all has.

Not neccesarily an attractive strategy though.

I know I dont collect, assemble, paint all my wargaming figures to be the best at running away and fulfilling sidequests 😅

I guess that is matter of taste.  Personally I do find it verry amuzing to play a board control army. I really sets off the whole evil overlord in me. The whole no matter how much you struggle my troops will conquer the board  fibe has something for me.

Now that's the truth - ha ha! Man, it's been rough! My tactics have always pretty much been the same every game - run around as fast as possible and try my best to avoid fighting. Saying that, I think I'm undefeated in 3rd with my NH. Would never dream of taking them to a tourney mind.

There are 8  battle tactics in the game and five of them do not include killing models.  You can easily win whit no fighting at all.  Armies that are great at board control can dominate tournents trough sheer movment alone. Legion of the First prince beeing a prime example in 3.0 and legion of greif  in 2.0.  Even if NH are not great at killing i would be fine whit them if they where a board control army. IT think that even sort of fits the theme.

Well, then why are you fine with Idoneth (can run, shoot and charge their whole army across the board), Ironjaws (3 units, including Mawcrusha), Living City (ranged deepstrike plus 1 unit charging)? It's not something new.

Did i say that i was fine whit them?  Obviusly if i think design that does not allow the opponent to have meaning full counterplay is not good design. That goes for everything where that is a problem not just the dragons.  Of the things you mentioned i think  the Ironjaw mawcrushers clearly cross the line. As  does the living city command ability.  The idoneth not so much while fast they are not  cross the whole board fast.  I think the mawcrusher might be the worst since it can potentionaly move 3 times in a row. Makeing it's positioning pointless.  But at least that is just one model (or 3 if you go for double move) But stormgaurd can go for a whole army. That is just not cool.

So, confession, I got 5 boxes of dragons because I think the models are gorgeous. I thought they would be fun and good, but not broken good. or unfun to play against.

Anyway, my default list is not the maximally 10xSDG and 1xKD (because that would have taken 6(!!!!) boxes). Instead, it's 8xSDG and 2xKD - so a bit less powerful (and two drops instead of one).

I was thinking, would a list of Karazai, 1xKD, and 6xSDG be an acceptably toned-down list for casual play. (I think the two greater dragons are overpriced), or do you think that's still a snicker-dragon-spam-that-guy list?

    just fishing for opinions

The dragons are likely not fun to play against. Just like mawcrushers few ppl like stuff that moves 24 inches and then charges. So don't ask us. Ask whoever you are playing against if it's a casual matchup.

So before the book released I was really hoping the Glottkin would be good this edition, but looking at the points and stats I'm just not excited about them. They're about as resilient as a mega gargant and hit slightly harder, but they're over 200 points more expensive and half the speed. They're a wizard sure, but the spells are only so so and unlike the gargants they only count as 5 models on an objective so I'd call that a wash. I really want to pick them up and paint them, but at their monetary cost I want something more to justify the purchase than a hobby project. Has anyone had any good experience with them in any games that can get me excited enough to take the plunge? Any wow moments that made you think they were totally worth 700 points?

Yea the basic stats of the glottking are not great. But blightkrieg is an absolute power rule.  It's so insanly powerfull that you can win games of it alone. The amount of control this gives you over the opponent is insane.  Mostly because chargeing is the way most ppl score their tactics. Wanna kill a battleline unit/general charge it. Want to take over an objective charge the unit that is currently holding it.  Blightkrieg stops that outright. When someone want to charge you of a objective just charge them whit that unit instead so they can not move on the objective.  This can cause them to drop a tactic and in a close game that might already be enough to  win. At 700 points i think you need to play well to get enough form the glottkin. But if they ever drop in a faq they will be amezing.

I have literally no idea what you are talking about, neither did i ever play 40K or desire to have a broken book.

I am jusy tired of always being on the wrong end of the leverage just by being a chaos player.

At game night at the club, we have literal verbal fights who gets the right to play against chaos.

The release of the StD is still a mood point thinking back.

Super great book in Bonereapers, absolute stinker StD, fantastic book for Lumineth.

I really don't care bout tournaments anymore, i just don't want to be in that group, people fight over to baby seal club.

And no, i am not the worst player, i won tournaments in 7th edition with WoC and am able to judge if a book is a lost cause.

The direction we are going, reminds me very strongly of High Elfes in the old world

Ha try beeing a destrcution player. Oh well there now is giants i gues. Anny way. Nurgle is not that bad and Tzeentch and Bel'akor are great armies.  Khorne not su much. Slaanesh i gues is oke but still feels bad because of how powerfull it was. But your sort of right death and order is where it is at.

  10. To mean it does not really matter if the dragons are tournament winning or not. They are just not fun to play against. They just allow to little counterplay. Units that can cross the entire board in one ga and deliver a strong local punch should just not exist.   What is the fun in playing against something that eliminates meaning full choices.

  11. You know what.  Movie reviews in news papers are not done by a critical frame work. Because nobody that is that invested in the work would get it's review from the newspaper.

Same whit  reviews of the warhammer products.  I think a critical framework is verry intresting. And probably usefull for studieing warhammer as a culture or as a game.

But as a review. Kind of pointless.

It's the emotional part that's what intresting.

Will this product make me feel .......

    That's what matters

The how and why not so much.

And yes that makes it hella subjective but that's part of the fun.

  12. Since this is a positive thread let my post my typical cynisme in reverse.

I freaking hate the  new cohernency rules. Since they bug the game speed down for little actual improvement on the problem of screening. (hack it does nothing to the worst offender horrors)

But i love every thing else. I love the heroic actions i love the  aditional command points (and the fact that you get more command points for going second) I love the simple command abilities and how they impact the game. I even freaking love the new battle tomes (well not the movements in the hero phase that's just dumb) But the game is shaping up to be an amezing adition. Whit a lot more player interaction in each battle round while not getting bugged down in the huge mess of hundreds of stratagems like 40K

They are probably hoping that a monthly update, could fix the currently very strong Drukhari and admech armies.

personally I don’t really care too much for 40k.

It is a great game among friends, not really something I enjoy playing on tournaments

Monthly updates would be overkill.  I mean who can keep up whit monthly changeing amries.

There is a list that won a major tournament with 6 knight judicators and a fox

For some units a point change is not enought, pink horrors, kairos and belakor are wrong on warscroll level for example

Damm those are the only things i have in my army.......

But yes it's compleetly true. Some scrolls are just inherently broken. Horror's are a great example. They are just inherently a sort of swamp that sucks units into pointless combats. That is what the scroll does. But an use like that stands or fails purely on the pointcost. Make the horror's to expensive and its pointless cause you can not suck in enoug of the enemy to make it worth useing the horror's make them to cheap and they will drown the battle field in bodies and nothing happens.   So there almost no way they can be balanced. They are either to good or to bad. for what they cost.

Tried out Bloodtoofs and Mega Bossy command trait for the first time yesterday against a mate - He played Ogor Mawtribes with 3x Frostlord, 3x2 Mournfang, 2 wolves and the deepstrike Hrogorth guy.

I played with 2x MK, 3 WCs, 1 Shaman and 4x3 Pigs. 2 of the units being in Hunters with the rest in 2 Warlords. Had Amulet + Smelly + Mega Bossy on my general. The 2nd MK had Fast and Destroyer.

We had already talked about that I wanted to alpha him and see what my list could do, so we deployed how we normally would and we gave me turn 1 (he had 3 drops vs my 10 drops).

    This was our deployment.

    image.png.d5050916dfe2346de6b52334004b2a81.png

At the end of my turn 1 it looked like this:

    image.png.923e480baca410382a3e1fa380b4a458.png

I had buffed the pigs in the top left corner with Violent Fury and my 2 other MKs got Violent Fury as well.

I did multiple silly mistakes which made the game a lot closer than it should have been (I won big time still).

My first mistake was that I tried to teleport with the Shaman which obviously failed - I dont know why I even tried, I should have casted Mystic Shield on the MK in the middle which was my general. There was no point in trying to teleport anyways.

The MK on the far right side used MD on the 2 unit of Pigs next to him, then used it on himself + Fast 'Un + move to literally get in the top right corner and charged into the back of the Mournfang pack, then piled into the FL and killed it in a turn with Destroyer activated.

The other MK used MD on the 2 far left Pigs and himself and he moved up the middle.

Impact hits + shooting happened (seriously I keep forgetting shooting with the MKs.. But between 8 attacks on 2s/3s/-1/1 damage and impact hits, you can easily damage enough to secure SnB fun) and at this point it was just starting from one side of the board and Smashing and Bashing all the way through.

I called the waagh here so everything was pretty much rend 3 which just shreds. The 3 pigs on the far right killed the heavily wounded Mournfang pack, my general killed the 2 Mournfang in the middle, the Pigs on the far left hand piled into the wolves and killed them, the 3 buffed Pigs next to them on the left wiped the Mournfang and then my Destroyer MK piled into the FL and killed him.

I literally fought with everything and he didnt get to fight back. At the end of combat my left pigs move back to the objective. The other buffed unit charges into the FL and locks him in place.

My second mistake happened here where I might have been greedy.. They needed a 6" charge to lock the 2nd FL in combat but failed it. I could have just made a move to form a screen between the FL and my 2 MKs.

My third mistake happened here and I used Finest Hour on my MK (non general) in the top right corner. The combination of these mistakes lead to him charging my general MK and wiped him in a turn between the impact hits from the charge and him being buffed up. He roared etc. so his rend 2 attacks destroyed my general. If I had used Mystic Shield + Finest Hour there would have been zero chance for him killing my general and instead he would have been forced to go into the corner of the map for the other MK which would have sealed the deal no matter the outcome on the following priority roll.

My 3 pigs on the left hand side did 10 damage to the FL on the left hand side. We rolled for priority into turn 2 and I won it, at which point the game was decided right there and then. I decided to give him the turn after agreeing it was over, just to see what would happen. The game went into turn 3 before he only had his general FL left and at this point I would secure 2/3 objectives no matter what he did and I could get all my battle tactics done. So I more than doubled his VPs and we called it after turn 3.

Conclusion: I need to try and alpha my opponent more often. Im generally really careful and play the objective game a lot more. Bloodtoofs is amazing - The fact you can move pigs or even charge is so huge. The 3 pigs on the left side locking his FL into combat was huge. It was one of the units in Hunters batallion. Had the right hand side Pigs not failed their 6" charge and thus locking the other FL into combat, it would have been decided turn 1 for sure.

Mega Bossy is actually amazing on a mobile army (surprise) where you want to get up into the face of the opponent. 2 Warlord Batallions really help here because you can get 2 free CPs at any time in the start of your hero phase if you decide to go all-in.

    BRUTAL!!

I havent seen any lists without Amulet of Destiny on the MK general. Its significantly better than anything else. Most of the really strong lists are a 1 drop army, so having more drops beyond that is kinda meh. I also think our army has the option of punishing the opponent if you are given turn 1, so I dont mind not having a say in going first or second.

I kinda want my 2nd MK to have some artefact or whatever to increase his value which means 1 Warlord batallion is a given for me, at this point Im looking at 5+ drops so does it really matter how many drops I have at this point? Might as well go for double Warlord + Hunters for maximum value. Theres also value in being able to deploy your MKs once the whole army of your opponent is on the table.

I kind of agree. What i want to do in my first turn is ram my mawcrusher into someones face.  While he is buffed whit both arcane shield and the warchanter buff.  Afther that i really don't care. if i get two turns in a row or not.  The thing is just not going to die either way. So i could not care less about if i go first or second. So long as i can go nuts whit the crusher in the first turn.

  18. I had to fill in for a sick player on a tournament yesterday.

So i just went whit some random Ironjaw list i had in storage from way back.

1 mawcrusher 1 megabos 2 units brutes 2 units grunta's and 2 untis ardboys and a warchanter and grot shaman.

I was really suprised how well i did.

Mawcrushers seem like they are really well worth their points not only do they hit like a truck but they are also verry fast and great leaders whit the tripple orders.

It think i misjudged to battle tome at first.

    Ironjaws seem really strong

     Specialy ironsuns

Chargeing in the opponetns turn is pretty nuts.

Also they have 30 inch range

    also they need no los

    Also they have better stats.

Also they give the opponent -1 to hit

It's not always so easy. As with most ethical question, the line where things go from OK to not OK is fuzzy.

You could imagine a case where you are presented with a completely legal contract, but it is so onerous that nobody who actually reads it should sign it. I think a company presenting such contracts to people in the hope that they make a mistake or make a decision that is objectively bad for them is still behaving unethically. The intent of the company in this case would not be to have a mutually beneficial relationship with that person, but to have a one-sided relationship in the company's favour. If the company was banking on people signing a bad contract due to those people's lack of legal knowledge or the power imbalance between the two, then the facts that everything in the contract is legal and that the person was not forced to sign it are not enough to ensure everything is ethically above board.

While the case is not as clear with the GW NDA, I think it pushes in this direction. The lawyers that I have seen give their opinion on it do call it out as being especially harsh to the point of being potentially unenforcable. This is definitely not a good thing: It amounts to a form of intimidation of whoever signs this NDA. The hope on the part of GW needs to be that people will self-regulate their behavour in the company's favour, even though they are not legally required, because they are afraid to risk opening themselves up to being sued. The average influencer does not have the legal knowledge and ressources to identify and fight unenforcable demands like these.

I definitely believe that just pointing out that people don't have to sign the NDA is not enough. If the deal people are asked to sign on for is so bad that the only way anybody should sign on to it is by mistake, that is an issue in itself.

Well when it comes to big buisness the only ethics involved are no ethics at all. The question are always is this legal? and is the profitiable .(and sometimes this is profitable and illegal how do we make it legal).   There are far far far worse buisness practises out there. And to be compleetly frank I think that if slavery would become legal today. Most companies would be considereing if  buying slaves was profitable tomorrow.   The world is kind of f-ed like that.
