  1. Really interesting, so you are not taking VLOZD and not taking Vhordrai?
Is Neffy AND Manny worth it? dont you lack CPs for that?
What do you think about the Corpse Cart? I always felt that its worth a lot giving +1 to cast and kinda good with dire wolves as well.

  2. Hey guys! I am new to Nighthaunt.
I know that they are not terribly competitive right now, but I like the models and want to build at least a 2000p army.

I have a list in mind and would be great if you could comment on my points.

Here a few thoughts that explain the list a little bit.

So my most favourite unit are the Blagegheist Revenants, so I thought a good starting point is the Shroudguard battalion, relatively cheap and lowers the drops. I am not sure if its good playwise to have two units of 20 of them or if units of 10 are just better (if yes, I could go for double Shroudguard battalion?!). I wasnt sure if I go for a Knight Of Shroud on foot or on steed? But went for the one on steed.
Then I love the Kurdoss model, so I put him in. A Spirit Torment is mandatory is mandatory in a Nighthaunt army as well as a Gurdian of Souls? so I put them in.

Then I had to fill my battleline and I wanted a little bit of a center piece, so I took a Mourngul and as many Chainrasps as possible, unfortunately I dont have enough for a full unit of 40, which is a bit of a waste because of the discount. So I ended up with 30 10 10 , I could also go for 20 20 10 (not sure what is better).

Midnight Tome as a good artefact for the GoS, Pendant for more movement when my bladegheists are retreating and charging again. Not sure about the command trait though, nothing is really that good for me here I think?!

I am that sure if the Mourngul is really worth his points, so I could instead  also go for 10 more chainrasps to fill up to 40, buy  a command point (maybe Aetherquartz Brooch then?) and Lady Olynder, because she is really good for 200p, right? Would be 2000p.

Also the question if Kurdoss' 180 points are just too much for what he does? But I really like the model!

Nice list so. You really should go and test this as ravagers.  Always nice to have 10 Marauders spawn at an edge and steal an objective if the opponent doesn't watch out. Or you bring some furies early on... 😉

Can't really see what despoilers does for you in this list, if you aren't takin' the diabolic mantle.

I'll test everything out, you gonna see it live soon, I'll promise.

But gonna go with Archaon again on the weekend, since I dont have enough new models painted up just yet. See you on saturday! Looking forward to it!

  4. Yeah you are right, but I am not sure yet.. I feel like all the Legions dont do that much for me.
Maybe I will take the Mantle for D3 command points. Then I need to go Despoilers.

Its also nice to have the 18'' aura for my General though. Kinda want to have the DP to be Khorne for his CA, so he cant be the general in my case.

But will definitely try Ravagers as well.

What does your usual list look like?

I dont have everything painted up yet, but something like this:

    grafik.png.7da519ca81d1d04b13e7af91c335587b.png

Definitely room for improvement though. Chaos Warriors are my favourite unit, although I think it would be better to just have more Marauders.
Not sure though, need more testing when I finished the marauder models.

I also think Furies are underrated as well, but I cant them them in this list unfortunately. Everything is just really expensive in points.

I cast it on the sword of judgement Daemon Prince, gave him reroll saves and popped his command ability, charged over the front lines and into the Doombull.

Since I read this a couple of times now in this thread:

You cant give Oracular Visions to a Daemon Prince  since he lacks the Keyword Mortal. Same with the Tzeentch Warshrine Prayer. Only for Mortals.
Would be great, but GW says no.

Well, with 2 dragons, 10 bloodnights and battleline tax there is not that much roomfor summonable options.

I tried similar core under soulblight with dragon, manfred, vhordrei, 10 bloodknights and 2x3 vargheists and it worked well

Dont know if blood is that great if youvdont use gravesites /resurection that much

Thats exactly what I had in mind. As Soulblight.

    VLOZD
    Vhordrei
    Mannfred
    10 Bloodknights (or 2x5 Bloodknights)
    2x3 Vargheists

The big problem is, that if you play it like this, you dont have points for the additional CP left.
    Its exactly 2000p.

Thats why my plan was this one:

    VLOZD
    Vhordrei
    Mannfred
    5 Bloodknights
    2x3 Vargheists

    10 Chainrasps (allies)

    70p left for endless spells:

    maybe
    Prismatic Palisade
    Quicksilver Swords

But of course it would be great to have 10 Bloodknights, although I think they are better in LoB because of their bonus attacks.

Also not sure if I go for Swift Death or Necromantic for safer casting.

  8. Hey guys, I want to play a list with the three big guys here.

Not too sure how I should finish the list.
I definitely want the additional CP.
So I have 300p left to play with.
I have three more Vargheists and another five Blood Knights available.
I am also thinking about adding a bat swarm or some allied dire wolves to be fast and grab objectives.
What do you think? Endless spells would be a possibility as well of course.

PS: I will go for Swift Death I think, cause its so fun to have lots of movement

    Hi @Enwolved!

Battalions totally dont worth it if you want to play competitive on 1000 pts. Bonuses are mediocre and the price is not that low.

Icebone is good (command ability is powerful; battle trait, command ability and artefact are quite useful) if you don`t have many armies with save-after-save abilities in your local meta. If you have - better take Drakkfoot to negate this.

I usually play 2000 format, but if I have to play 1000 with boars limit I take the following:

      Reveal hidden contents

    Allegiance: Bonesplitterz

    Leaders
    Maniak Weirdnob (120)
    - Lore of the Savage Beast: Breath of Gorkamorka
    Wardokk (80)
    - Lore of the Savage Beast: Gorkamorka's War Cry

    Battleline
    10 x Savage Boarboys (260)
    - Stikkas
    10 x Savage Boarboys (260)
    - Stikkas
    10 x Savage Boarboy Maniaks (280)

    Total: 1000 / 1000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 200
    Wounds: 101

Not sure about the spells, probably it would be better to have Brutal Beasts on wardokk instead of War Cry.

You can make one pack of Boarboys 4+ rr1 save (Wardokk + mystic shield) to act as an anvil or a pretty good screen. If take Brutal Beasts instead of War Cry - make one unit hit with +1 and generate two hits on unmodified 6 (Brutal Beasts and Bone Spirit spells).  Breath of Gorkamorka to have an incredible 24 move with flying boars (and charge after it of cause or run to get onto objective if needed).

Probably should divide one pack of boarboys on two 5-man squads. 10-man is a good amount of attack with bonus for charge, 5-man squads give you more mobility.

Set of spells depends on how you play and what you need more for your plans. My go-to spells that I usually take on 2000 format:

    1) Breath of Gorkamorka on Maniak Weirdnob - having 24 move + fly on boars often make me games or at least create great problems for opponent. 10 inch + run foot boys also perform good. Weirdnob because of mobility and opportunity to reroll cast.

    2) Gorkamorka`s WarCry - opportunity to make enemy unit fight last in combat phase is important, especially when playing against Slaanesh (don`t know if you have this one in your meta)

    3) Kunnin Beast Spirits - If you take it to Wardokk (or take this spell + Wardokk, don`t really matters) it is probably +2 save on one of your units and it is makes it pretty tough (especially units with shields in melee). Boarboys in 3+ combat save with rr1 for Mystic Shield or CP looks good.

    4) Brutal Beast Spirits - +1 hit, run, charge is always nice, but not mandatory. Is taken to maximize units` attack potential, another attack buff is Bone Spirit spell from Maniak Weirdnob warscroll,

I already bought some boxes of boarboyz, but didnt start to build them yet.

Magnetize it if you have an opportunity, you would get great flexibility in army composition.

Thank you @GriinWan for taking the time! Its much appreciated!

So I think will try to go for the 1000p list you suggested, seems pretty good to me.
I will just try out the spells, but I think I will go for +1 save and +1 hit spells then. Not sure if I really need the movement bonus, although its nice to have of course. Not experienced enough to judge that of course.

Really not sure if I should take the clan for 1000p though. The trait is pretty much wasted. I could take the wardokk as general though, take Icebone clan and give him another trait because the trait is only mandatory, if the weirdnob is the general, right?

For 2000p this is the list I came up with, cause I really like the Rogue Idol model and its pretty easy to expand like that from 1000p. It doenst have to be a tournament list, but I think I can still do sth with them.

Just realized that I forgot to pick the trait, but I will go for "Fuelled by the spirits" to have an extra spell.
Not sure about the endless spells, they might not be worth it.

I know the Thermalrider Cloak on the Big Boss might not be the best, but I want to put him on a boar as well, because it looks cool and then he will be able to keep up with them, having 9'' movement.
My thought was that he can fight first and then let a big unit of boars fight right after him with his ability.

  10. Hey guys,

I need your help. I want to start a bonesplitterz army, 1000 points at first, maybe later more.
Since I play against a lot of strong opponents I kinda want it to be competitive if possible.
But I want it to be boar-themed. So basically only Boarboyz/Boarboy Maniaks+Heroes.
Heroes can be unmounted, but I will convert them to still sit on boars, but still give them proper base size and still use their regular movement.

As clan I feel Icebone is best, but maybe at 1000 points one is better off without a clan? Because their artefact and trait dont feel that great. I dont know.

In general I need to know what is better: normal boarboyz or maniaks? which support heroes are best and what spells are best in combination with boar units?

Is a battalion worth it? The Brutal Rukk could be nice for the ability, the Snaga Rukk doesnt feel great tbh. But I could at least get a useful second artefact and a CP, since I bring the units anyway.

Are boarboyz/boarboy maniaks better in units of five or ten? or even bigger?

I already bought some boxes of boarboyz, but didnt start to build them yet.

So here is what I came up with so far:

    Savage Big Boss
    Wurgogg Prophet
    Wardokk

    10 Boarboyz
    10 Boarboyz
    5 Boarboyz

    990points

    Any advice on running boar-lists?

PS: is the rogue Idol any good? because I like the model and thought about maybe using it later on to pop up to 2000 points pretty fast.

I know it's still early days but are many people finding Ironbreakers with the extra points over Longbeards w/shields??

I just had a game, where I got shot at a lot and my Longbeards died because they only had the 4+ against shooting, was quite happy with my Ironbreakers in cover, who didnt die at all with their 2+ in this case against shooting, so in this case I was happy to pay a few more points. And I buffed them with Warden King and Runelord and they were still able to kill stuff with their 3 attacks each.

  12. I decided to build my own battlemage in the end and I am pretty happy with how he turned out, (not glued on the base yet).

I used an old dwarf thunderer model, build him a staff with bits from Battlemage and sculpted him a hat.

    Good evening sons of Valaya!

    I tested a 2k game versus the new Orruks warclans with a Greywater Fastness 99% duardin list;

Oh that sounds interesting. I am planning on doing a similar list, but I will try to go for Tempest Eye:

    Warden King 110
    Runelord 90
    Runelord 90

    Battlemage 90

    Frostheart Phoenix 220

    Irondrakes 300
    Irondrakes 300
    Ironbreaker 330
    Hammerers 360
    Longbeards 110

      2000

Not sure about the phoenix yet, but my army is ice- and winter-themed and I want a center piece. I planned on going with a Steam Tank, but I think they are only worth it if you take more than one and even then, they dont seem that strong.

Guys, i have a dilemma. Im building a list with neferata and i have 20 points left i dont know what to do with. Should i pick the prismatic palisade (i already have horrorghast) or leave the 20 points and hope for a triumph? In that case i would pick the one that basically nets you a free CP

If I remember correctly you cant "pick" the triumph, but you roll for it.
I feel like its always a gamble, but I think Palisade can be pretty good, escpecially for Neferata, to protect her from shooting.
In addition you can throw it out pretty early, because most other spells arent in range anyway in the first turn.

No, you are right, I know that, thats not what I meant. But I thought its better to have a VLOZD with the powerful retreat + charge and even a powerful artefact like the amulet instead of having a small hero with a command trait and artefact, which is less useful, although you would have mannfred and a great CA. But that were only my thoughts of course.

exactly my point. By swapping the VLoZD with mannfred you would get his amazeballs CA wich is mathematically equivalent to +1 attack for BKs, difference is that you would give it to half your army. Also mannfred is a better damage dealer than the standard VLoZD and would benefit more from Vhordrai CA. Taking necromantic bloodline for +1 to cast and -1 bravery is just icing on the cake. This is my two cents obviously

But you would give away your juicy command trait.. Is it really still better to take Vhordrai + Mannfred?
I am building a similar list right now and I had the same idea last week, but I wasnt too sure if its worth to give up the command trait.
Or maybe just use the little VL as general then? (I dont own a Coven Throne, so making it as general isnt an option for me)

  17. Hey guys,

I was thinking about starting a Dispossessed army.  I had a few dwarves back in Warhammer Fantasy and I came back to the hobby about 1 year ago. I started with Chaos and Death, but now its time for Order and I think there still nothing that I like more than them.
I know CoS is coming, so I'll wait for the book to drop.

But isnt it in general a problem, that all the stuff, thats left now (I think its still enough to build a solid army - I dont have a problem with Warriors etc beeing gone) is web exclusive and you dont get any discount on all the boxes? That makes them really expensive unfortunately  o_O

Because I am afraid I need like 10 Boxes to build a proper 2k army..

I hope I won't meet your Blood Knights upcoming Saturday. :-D I might would have substitute those 10 Reapers with something else. Not sure about the use of 10 Reapers for 160 Points. :-S  But as Death1942 said I guess it's a solid list. :-)

Haha, it looks like we are the only two LoB players, so we have to stand together anyway.
Better dont get hit by all those golden space marine range attacks =)

Its funny, I threw the Reapers in last minute. At first I had a Vampire Lord in mind, but since I can only buy one additional CP,  I wont be able to use his CA, which would be really sad. I thought about adding 3 Vargheists, they look cool, but they are incredibly weak defensively. But I definitely like them more, because they are Vampires =) See you on saturday!

From my experience (played like five meeting engagements so far) it can be problematic too have a contingent with too many models/too many big models. In some scenarios theres only so much space to place your models, it can get quite tricky. In addition to that most of the time you want to deploy most units as close to the point of action as possible. Thats difficult when trying to make them fit into the small deployment area.
I havent played the VLOZD in ME yet, but played with a few Blood Knights, that was really fun. I feel like its really important to have fast moving units.

The problem of a big unit of blood knights is that they could only be on the rearguard part, that in most scenarios is only functional for 2 turns.

I think you are right here, it feels terrible when the unit thats most important to you, arrives last on the battlefield..
