    Read the new Sylvaneth battletome

Yeah Kurnous survived the End Times, and became Kurnoth later in Mortal Realms

However, in age of Chaos, he was slayed again by Horticulus, which is very a bad news.

The last  part of his soul is now contained in his spear, wielded by Everqueen herself

Some Sylvaneth still think they can bring him back through wild hunt and sacrifice.

how TF did a guy riding a giant snail kill a God...

    You're probably right.

I just really want a death faction that isn't under Nagash's bone thumb, so I'm likely making up off the wall theories. Ahhh, well. I'm still holding out hope for reborn Tomb Kings lead by Khatep.

Then they wouldn't be a Death faction; the whole thing with Death is that it's Nagash's faction as The Sole God of Death.

I hate it, honestly. I always feel bad when I get the double turn and beat the living hell out of the opponent without him having a way to interrupt or attack, and when it happens to me I feel bad because my previous plan of attack is null and void. I may just need to plan ahead for a double turn, mine or my opponent's, but at the same time I'm not doctor strange. I cannot see different outcomes of different time lines trying to set up during this turn, and what I may prepare for may not be circumvented by a savvy opponent.

I am a reactionary player. I like in 40k where I have my turn, do what I do, then wait for my opponent to do what they do. I see what their attack is, and I like to make a plan of attack based off what was damaged, what wasn't, what my army's position is compared to my opponent's.  I may just need to "Git Gud", but judging how the game will swing based off something my opponent or I cannot control just... just doesnt feel right. it's what stopped me from playing AOS in the first place, and I was drawn back because 40k has it's own set of problems.

I've heard a lot of complaints about 40k though, where army comps want to go first to obliterate their opponent with ranged/arty. None of us can control the dice, which are technically what drive the game.

We've had a few threads on this in the past

Personally I dislike it greatly because it puts too much power into a single dice roll. A double turn in a game where turns are whole army activations is very overpowering to most opponents. From gamers I've chatted too I've very very rarely heard of anyone losing a game when they got a double turn; or winning a game when their opponent got a double turn.

The other, and biggest issue, is that regardless of balance of battle; a double turn means one person stands there for twice as long and all they can do is roll saves and remove their models from the table. They can't react to changes; can't move, can't shoot; can't use spells etc.. They are left rather bored and their only benefit is the alternating close combat phase; but even then they are limited as they can't start any new combats. Plus against any ranged army they've got even less to do.

To me its a bad feature that really should be retired out of the core game and into open play as an optional rule. It's just too powerful a mechanic that swings games in favour of whoever gets it and leaves you little means to counterplay it. In fact the only way to prepare to counter it, is to basically not move closer to your opponent. That's a bad feature in a game that only has 6 turns of action at best and where most victory conditions are going to involve moving fowrad to kill enemies and secure objectives. Plus holding back might only work for the first turn; after that you've got to get close and if not then your opponent has moved closer anyway.

this is the best response against the double turn that I've read, and I am curious if there's an official count for double turns that goes with the W/L rate count

Haven't they said we get more news about all the things at AOS Open Day in the next days? Or more info on the new battletomes? So far it is only Warcry news and I have to say that I am a little bit bored of Warcry news.

If they don't drop Part 2 for The Tithe I will be sorely disappointed...

  6. Vanguard Hunters are now 110 points, which is 10 more than Liberators but 20 less than Sequitors. They have the same bravery, wounds, and save as other battlelines with +1" to move. You can Mystic Shield them to have the same save effect as shielded Liberators, so I don't think they're pitiful--though you easily find better places to spend points.

I think the assessment of the former marketing guy on Honest Wargamer was dead on. Multi-stage marketing campaign with animated videos? That's a major release. You don't put that kind of effort/money into a small book release with a few updated models.

Basically, lets put all the marketing for Open Day in perspective:

Orruks/Free Cities, we got Book Covers and descriptions, so coming very soon, probably no new models or at least nothing worth showing off.

New Ogor Tyrant: Video with models and voiceovers, new Battlebox, battletome coming later, maybe some other models but nothing huge.

The Tithe: Animated video with voice over, part one of at least a two part series, new army inbound.

Skipping Beastgrave because it's it's own thing, but that's also a big release, and marketed in a way to fuel speculation.

Would that be three big releases for AOS then? Ogors getting their due, new Death army/faction, and Wanderers getting a Battletome? Because Beastgrave is heavily implying Wanderers will be a Ghur faction.

No evidence just a feeling that we're over due for an army consisting of either entirely new models or mostly new models. I think that will be the "Tomb Kings" release though I don't think we'll see any of the old Tomb Kings models besides the old Sphinx kit (just because it was plastic and awesome).

Ahh okay my bad. If TK do come back let's hope the lore reason is sound then

I’m so confused that there is a legit, honest to goodness, highly credible rumor of a Tomb Kings-esque army IN THE NEXT THREE MONTHS.  And people aren’t freaking out.

    LIKE I AM.

I wouldn't call that gravestone Tomb Kings aesthetic, unless you're referring to something else?

edit: I've been looking, and I can't find any Tomb Kings art that uses candles... I know this is a bit semantic but I don't think it's a TK faction based on that. I do think that picture is Death related though.

Honest Wargamer guys seem convinced it'll be a new faction. The guy there used to work in marketing and was explaining theyd only go to this much hassle if it was a major release.

Incidentally, they think itll be a pirate undead faction because of the interest from Total Warhammer. Be disappointed if it is though.

Asian themed undead would be so much cooler

TBH I don't think I want Vampirates on the tabletop... they are a cool idea for TWW2 but a lot of us are still salty they made that entire faction without doing Kislev or Araby first : / Also have they even talked about oceans or seas in the Mortal Realms aside from Idoneth? I can't imagine too much happens with that entire Empire scouring around for souls...

I think I'd much rather see Eastern/Asian themed undead than any kind of pirates

edit: I KNOW I don't want Vampirates in AOS 😨

Any thoughts on this list? Or ways to make it better?

You need some cavalry or shooting in this list, am not sure how you'd want to switch it up to achieve that though. Htf is your friend taking 4 bloodthirster though? That matchup feels more like an issue of him cheesing

To be a little fair, this forum isn't a 1 to 1 match of AoS as a whole.

For example our Seraphon topic here sometimes has no one posting in it for like weeks, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of seraphon players. (In fact the last post was July 11th, a full 8 days ago)

Agree with the first part: I'm more interested in narrative and casual play, but I'm here for the competitive knowledge to guide what I buy and to keep up with news.

Seraphon have their own entire community over at Lustria online, so they may not be a good example for your second point (or maybe it reinforces it more?)

  13. I really would prefer new Freeguild models, that incorporated different races within units (separate boxed units that can be mixed on table with cohesive rules anyone??). And it would be great to not have the same floofy holy Roman Empire look... but unfortunately we will probably only see the current boxes repackaged with circle bases, and some metal models made plastic. While needed, this book isn't for new players.

Whether they keep the HRE look or not, the poses need to be changed because as of now they are designed to be regimental-fit. Personally I don't see how every single Mortal Realm could end up with the same medieval Europe look for their Freeguilds, but its the lore to table disconnect that always happens. I do not think "just convert your own!" is a proper answer either, since that requires an even heavier investment in both time and money unless GW decides to make proper conversion kits for AOS.

Swords are a treat for the eye but unfortunately, they suck (on paper). The reason why is that they wound on 4+. Sure they hit on 3+, but if you go the hammer way, and fight a unit with 5 or more wounds per model, then you hit on 3 and wound on 3, which is better than hitting on 2 and wounding on 4 if you were to fight the same unit with swords.
If you've got yourself a buff, like azyros's, then you can hit on 2+ and wound on 3+ with your hammers.

this is why I'm upset Leena Stormspire was a Liberator Prime and not a Questor... who tf is taking liberators with swords

    1 hour ago, HammerOfSigmar said:

azyros give reroll 1 to hit buffs, not +1 to hit......

another thing worth considering when do math for sword and hammer is that -1 to hit debuff is kind of widely seen in this game(for example, SCE has several), but -1 to wound debuff is not so.

are you saying the swords are a closer matchup, since they'd go up to 4+ and not 5+?

Assuming Pact, Feast and Tithe of Bones are all linked together, I think we can piece some stuff together.

The Mawtribes entered into a “Pact of Bones” with someone. Recently, that pact was broken. As a result the Mawtribes are engaging in the Feast of Bones while a recently freed individual who presumably serves Nagash is conducting a Tithe of Bones.

Working of that, id say it’s safe to assume that the Mawtribes entered a pact with Sigmar to trap Nagash’s ally, the recently free Mortarch. Since that Mortarch was freed, the Ogors march to war, rallying together to battle this Death character, who in the meantime is out collecting Bones.

Going out on a limb, I wonder if the Ogors agreed to shatter their tribes or not marshal together a great force in return for Sigmar getting rid of their Death for.

is there an explanation between these 3 things somewhere? or we're waiting on that still... I do find it most likely that this fight doesn't involve Sigmar, though I am hoping Ogors don't go back to the weird/vague Mongolian theme. The Tyrant doesn't look like anything historical in particular besides his stache

Drachenfels is a sort of all powerful spooky spirit who predates the Old Ones landing on the Warhammer World

the wiki mentions nothing about him being THAT old, but definitely around since Sigmar's mortal life.

    Nagash has several old pals.

Im hoping this leads to a newly stylized Barrow Kings.

For those that don’t know, Barrow Kings were a old WD article army that brought Krell and Kemmler back. The list featured skeletons, animated statues, constructs, ghosts, mummy troops and an awesome flying chariot.

The sitar music makes me hope they take more influence from south Asian countries such as India for this.

    Very excited for this.

Barrow Kings? Is that why Kemmler got moved to the mountains in Total War Warhammer2?

My own theory is that Sigmar has been sending Stormcast into the Underworld, not only to gather Shadeglass to help perfect the Stormcast remaking process, but also to rescue Katophrane souls from Nagash's imprisonment, and has been turning them into a new Chamber (Ruination?) ready to be his instrument to topple Nagash as the supreme God of Death and replace him with another death god that has so far eluded Nagash's grasp.

Phew, just realised that was all one sentence.  You may now breathe.

Your speculation is 👀 The ruination chamber could very easily be damage focused mages and magical weaponry/artillery... "Ruination" is defined as widescale destruction, so my personal guess is that chamber opens when AOS gets siege warfare or large scale ruleset.

What if GW intend to unify "high Elves" and Wanderers? New models could reduce the visual gap bettwen both groups and create something cohesive.

    Any thoughts?

sorry for the third post, I just caught up and the Hysh aelves get me so excited 😅

But, those rumor engines coupled with the teaser for Underworlds: Beastgrave is pointing towards a Ghur-themed Wanderers faction. I've mentioned it in another thread, but I see this as part of the old faction splits--whereas Sylvaneth are the (Wood) Elves who merged with aspects/spirits of Athel Loren (LIFE), the Wanderers would be the Wood/High Elves who merged with the primal aspects  (BEASTS).

Aelf-centaur immediately reminds me of the Wild Hunt and Kurnous. The lion model could mean we will see some High and Dark Elves included in the Wanderers, since all 3 have rangers (shades, shadow warriors, waywatchers) and all 3 have beast-taming aspects.

This ALSO lines up with the Ulgu and Hysh aelves still to be released: Ulgu is the Dark Elf split from Daughters, and Hysh is the High Elf split from Idoneth. I am not sure if those current aelf factions are tied to a realm specifically...but the parallels/mirror are definitely there. This can eventually lead to a shared tome too, like what happened with orruks.

Judging by the new blurb in the Slaanesh tome there will be some kind of spirit element

“...Teclis begins to gather armies of his own. He amasses the martial orders of the Realm of Light, and invokes ancient pacts with the spirits of Hysh to bolster his gleaming warhosts for the new era of conflict to come.”

I am so down for spirit soldiers/constructs fighting alongside angelic, geometric aelves... Please GW take my MONEY

I don't think that's so unrealistic but I think GW will give the Fairy theme to the wanderers. They already have a nature theme and are accompanied by little spirits and animals. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to incorporate some Irish mythology into the miniature line.

Fae Kingdoms or something like that would make for a great name.

Tyrion will keep his martial prowess and knightly theme.

anything faery-esque will probably be given to the Sylvaneth, as the new Wanderers are most likely going to focus on the primal aspect of aelves and the beasts that they share Ghur(?) with

  21. Beastgrave is setting up for a full Wanderers army it seems, unless Underworlds is going to expand factions where AOS can't. And I think Grungni dwarves are on the table as well? Either as a Dispossessed+Ironweld fusion or re-release that is separate from Fyre and KO. So to me, Order alone has 4 more factions to go:

    1. Wanderers/Beastmeld aelves (where Sylvaneth are treemeld)

    2. Hysh Aelves, Tyrion (and Teclis?)

    3. Ulgu Aelves, Malerion

    4. Third Dwarf faction, Grungni or revamp

Dwarves split into 3, Aelves split into 6 (2 apiece, esp if you count Deepkin as Teclis' high elf split). Humans technically will have 3 if you count it as Stormcast, Freeguilds, and Slaves to Darkness.

Honestly I am hyped as heck to have such different takes on the three archetypical fantasy races, and I'd definitely want to see them expand orks to stick with this 3-split they have going on.
