  1. Oh! I thought the fix was "follow the rules in the Skaven book and we'll fix it with the FAQ/Errata." Thanks @thediceabide!
  2. Warpseer point increase is negated by the Battalion decrease in my 2k Skryre list 🤗 Somewhat of a correction for Stormvermin too. Is 450 for 40 still too much? WLV changed to the first model being wholly within 13" of the caster. People were Skitterleaping things forward anyway to cast it right? Also no mention of Gnawholes...?
  3. In my limited experience, at least until the point updates: 40 x Clanrats 20 x Clanrats 3 x Stormfiends Warlock Bombardier Verminlord Warpseer (+1 CP) Has worked well for me each time I took them out.
  4. Played my first match for my stores Escalation league, won against Deepkin, will edit post with a quick batrep when I get to my computer EDIT BATREP TIME: This was both our 4th games of AoS, looking at my opponents warscrolls again, he missed a lot of his abilities and I do feel bad about it. He spent a lot of the game chewing through a single unit of Clanrats. Ok, anyways, my army: Leaders Verminlord Warpseer (260) General -Command Trait: Malevolent -Artefact: Sword of Judgement Warlock Bombardier (100) -Lore of Warpvolt Galvanism: MMMWP Battleline 40 x Clanrats (200) -Spears 20 x Clanrats (120) -Blades Units 3 x Stormfiends (260) -Ratling Cannon -Windlaunchers -Shock Gauntlets Total: 940 Extra Command Points: 1 Allies: 0/400 Wounds: 96 Battleplan was Knife to the Heart and we were playing this one with the 2018 GHB because the league technically started last Sunday and our store's delivery got messed up so we didn't even have the new books. Opponent was playing Deepkin. Something with 2 small heroes (Lotann and Isharann Soulrender I think?), with 2x10 Thralls, 2x10 Reavers, one unit of Eels. I won the die roll for picking sides and picked the side where the objective fell on a hill of terrain, figuring it'd be easier to hold. Placed one Gnawhole in my deployment behind the objective, and the other 2 on either side of my opponent's deployment, hoping to draw him out or redirect his attention. Started the game with my Blades on the objectives, Spears up front in 3 ranks of 13 with my Verminlord tucked in, Bombardier sitting on the Gnawhole with my Stormfiends ready to go through if my opponent takes first turn and neglects to stop me. He ends up giving me first turn so Hero phase has me casting MMMWP on my Stormfiends, and failing a Mystic Shield on my Clanrats Spears. I walk my Spears up a little, march my Blades down the slope, but slinked back to keep holding the objective. I have to shuffle my Stormfiends out of Gnawhole range, but Windlaunchers get a potshot at the Reavers and manage to kill 3 or 4 through their cover. His round has him charging his Eels up to try to tie up my Clanrats. 😏😏 Little does he know. Game continues with the general process of getting my spells off uncontested in my Hero Phase because he doesn't have any Wizards, Stormfiends killing everything at range (the only damage they took was from MMMWP and they took out an entire unit of Reavers, a Hero, some Thralls, and 2 Eels), and my Verminlord saving against his archers. He lost the bulk of his army being tied up in combat with my one unit of Clanrats while my Verminlord and Stormfiends harassed from the back. Sword of Judgement got 2 6's in 2 attacks which I got the full 6MW for each. Really unlucky for him. Only dicey moment was in the 3rd round when he finally broke through my Clanrats, I had ran my Swords up to take their place, but were about 5 inches off from doing that effectively. He was able to fly his Eels onto my objective and despite only having about 7 models left, was a double turn away from getting enough units onto my objective to end the game. Luckily for me, he wasn't thinking about this and combat ended with 2 Clanrats holding a hero and 3 Thralls in combat, to stop even a double turn from saving him. Ended the game with my Verminlord, a single Clanrat, and 3 Stormfiends huddled around my own objective. Lastly, the game probably would have been totally different had I not moved my Stormfiends for the cheeky pick off at the start. I could have Gnawholed my Stormfiends through turn 2 because he moved out of range of one of the holes, and been in range to hit a unit of Reavers with both weapons, possibly killing the entire unit and splitting his focus.
  5. The way I figured it was that Clanrats in fiction are probably amalgamations of volunteers from various clans. I'm taking 5 at a time, doing skin and fur, then different skin and fur on the next five, going through a unit, going back and doing armor/clothes a similar way. There's trillions of Skaven, they've got to have some sort of variance between skin tones and fur colors. I'm not one for having a uniform army look either 😂
  6. If WLV goes up to 120+ points, will there be a point to raise Grey Seers as well? I'm on board for the rest of your calls though.
  7. @Saodexan LOL or maybe a hook and string rig to recreate this kind of thing
  8. Where's the freakouts for the new rules for faction terrain making Gnawholes unusable as written? Gnawholes in the Codex have to be set up wholly within 8" of the edge, new GHB says faction terrain must be set up 6" away from the edge and any other terrain or objective. If you can't meet the requirements, you can't place the terrain. 🤷🤷 Just jumping on the commotion train. I'm sure this'll be addressed in the July update alongside the point changes 😏
  9. @5kaven5lave in my couple practice games so far, they've been my favorite unit as well. Windlaunchers have been insane, doing what I'd want Warpfire Projectors to do but at a safer range and not requiring LOS. -3 Rend is just about as good as mortal wounds too. They also seem to be the closest thing Skaven have to some semblance of a cavalry unit.
  10. Quick newbie AoS general strategy question that I think will be relevant for a lot of Clanrat usage: How often do you consider unit formations when setting up and moving units of 20-40 models? In my limited experience, a unit formation can be a tight 5x4 "rank and file" formation, a 1x40 line with the maximum 1" spacing between each model, and anything in between. Am I over thinking this or is there serious consideration given to units that are going to charge, be charged at, take an objective, hold an objective, block scenery chokes, and on and on?
  11. So! Finally played my first game last night with the few models I have ready. Played 1k against Dispossessed (My opponent said they wanted to take it easy on me) Won't do a full batrep but safe to say that I now understand the Warpseer's power in action, shrugging off a total of 8 wounds over the course of 2 rounds and single handedly taking out a unit of 10 and a hero that started in reserve and deployed behind me. Had some lucky rolls with my single unit of 3 Jezzails, never moved them and managed to deal 8 mortal wounds over 2 rounds of shooting. I failed most of my spellcasting rolls and had the ones I made unbound. Didn't seem to matter because by the time my opponent got the bulk of his forces tied up in my Clanrats, my Stormfiends and Bombardier were flanking around to clean up the rest of his army. With the store closing soon, we mathed out the next movement phase and figured out my opponent couldn't get any of his units onto either of the objectives I was holding so he conceded there. Had a great time and think I'm ready to bring glory to the Great Horned Rat ♥ The point of this post is to go over my list for my store's upcoming escalation league. As far as I know, we're playing without objectives. This is supposed to be a strictly-for-fun league. I'm pretty sure games are going to be a certain number of rounds (5?) and the winner is the player that kills more points worth of models over those rounds or their entire army. We'll play 2 games at each level starting at 1k, then 1.5k, then 2k. For 1k, I'm playing For 1.5k: For 2k: As I said, this is just for fun and my first army so I don't have a lot of wiggle room, but if anyone has any comments or direction to give me to try other things? The league has 17 members so I'm planning on facing a wide variety of factions. I know for a fact there'll be another Skaven player, Beastclaw Raiders, Kharadron Overlords, Deepkin, Seraphon, Stormcast Eternal.
  12. Welp, its taken me a couple of weeks to come to terms with the fact that Thanquol&Boneripper just can't fit well into my stores Escalation League, but after numerous number shifting, I just don't think I can do it. Especially since we're not doing anything objective based (I think because my store owner is playing with a list that specifically can't hold objectives 🙄), I think I have to opt for much more shoot-y, cast-y lists each week. I'll return when I get home from work and post my tentative ideas for each stage.
  13. The app I use has Arch Warlock listed as 160 points, is it really 140?
  14. Well the King's blessing is good enough for me I guess. I was going to say the only downside to this list is that I have to order another Verminlord and both the Claword on Brood Horrors like today in the hopes that they get here with enough time for me to assemble them. Since everyone doing the league is jumping into AoS, we were doing "$15 store credit to anyone who gets their army painted by the end of the league." For a $15 entry into the league, it's tempting, but a long shot for me.
  15. I'm putting together a 1k list for my stores just announced Escalation league. Thinking about doing Clans Verminus. Heroes being Verminlord Warbringer and 2 Clawlord on Brood Horrors. With battleline being 2 units of 40 Clanrats. That puts me to 980. Alternatively I can swap a Brood Horror out for a regular Clawlord and have some spells for my Warbringer to cast (I only own the Skaven Endless Spells and the league starts the first week of June). I have some other ideas for Skryre-ish lists but I really like the idea of these three heroes all buffed with Gnash-Gnaw tearing up the elite armies people at my store will be playing (I know there'll be a Deepkin and Beastclaw Raiders plus another Skaven player)
  16. Preface: I'm a Warhammer newb What are the balance implications of a model having a base size of 25 vs 32 (in regards to the ongoing acolyte bar discussion)? At face value, I can see that the unit with the larger base takes up more room on the table, making positioning models in range for a shooting attack harder as well as being able to pile-in less models for a melee attack. Are there other points I'm missing?
  17. All of the other regular "infantry" for Skaven is on 25mm right? I know this battle has raged for a few pages, but it would make sense, no?
  18. @Gwendar I figured they'd be the same faction. I couldn't imagine strategizing between two lists when my opponent could be playing either Skaven or Beastclaw Raiders. For ease of getting ready, I already have the models for a Skryre army and figured switching over to Verminus would be switching Skryre things out for another Verminlord and 40 Stormvermin.
  19. The owner of my LGS has been a long time 40k player and is looking to get into Age of Sigmar. This happened to coincide with me starting to build a Skaven army (my first venture into WH and ANY miniature gaming). He's mentioned a few times about putting together a league once he had his army together. Though I don't have many details, he's thrown out "Everyone will make 2 2k lists and y'know, we'll do it." My questions: 1. Is this a normal format? 2. How different should I make my lists if this were to be the case. I'm starting from literal nothing and am 60 Clanrats and 2 heroes away from having the army BUILT (not primed and definitely not painted). It would be a drag if after throwing all this stuff together, I would have to grab 120 plague monks, some Screaming Bells, and another Verminlord in order to throw together another army that's distinct enough from the first.
