  1. Coming from BoC I'm really liking the idea of a quick army that packs a punch. A couple of Chariots and Keepers with Locus of Diversion where you chew through chaff, potentially retreat to the other side and then charge their "protected" support heroes. It sounds sweet. I really can't decide on what to preorder though. Ughh. 😋

  2. So based on the recent reveals etc, what would you guys recommend a new Slaanesh devotee? Are chariots and seekers looking okay, or will it more likely be mass Daemonette spam? I'm considering buying the start collection box and some of the preorders.

Yep, some nice bonuses for BoC there. Honestly Slaanesh is looking like BoC 2.0.

Honestly I don't know how to feel about this. A part of me feel like BoC as a faction is left in the dirt, especially if your desire is to run "pure" non-god themed Beasts. On its own BoC feels weak/outdated already compared to the new tomes (FEC/Skaven). On the other hand BoC is very unique seeing as the faction basically gets updated 5 times (once for each God + our own tome) and maybe I just have to embrace the fact that we have so many different ways of playing our army.

Negative - the Taurus will always take precedence over the Tide. The FAQ states the most recent effect is used and since the Tides are an always on allegiance ability are never the most recent. About the only thing the bull doesn't stop dead is the Khorne artifact that gives them fight first on a roll.

I have noticed that new effects altering when a unit fight also includes a text in regards to effects cancelling each other out. Like if a unit always fights first, but this debuff makes it fight last, the two will cancel each other out, which is directly against the FAQ. I wonder if this will be FAQ'd later on so effects cancel each other out, or you will have different mechanics of altering when a unit fights.

Nop but I usually go very heavy out on Verminus, and mix a few moulder, skyre, Eshin and/or pestilence units into the list.

For example the current list I’ll be using soon, will be consisting of:

A Verminlord Warbringer:260p (General, brutal fury)

1Clawlord:100p (with the get a extra attack for each 1your opponent roles command trait)

    1Grey seer:120p (snoutgrouvel robe, warpgale)

    1Warlock bombardier:100p(mmwp)

    battleline

    2x40clanrats:400p(shields and handweapons)

    40Stormvermins:500p

    others

    30acolytes:320p

    5Gutter runners:60p

    total2000p

As much as I appreciate your list, it doesn't contain a single Plague Monk. 😋

I guess thats kind of my thoughts on the battalion in general. If you are running it, is it better served being a Beast of Chaos army than a Tzeentch list? Does the access to Tzeentch Daemons and Destiny Dice do anything better than the Herd stone and the Greatfrays? I could see a Cygor using Destiny Dice to make it a straight wizard sniper but Bolt of Tzeentch kind of does that already on a Lord of Change and from a longer distance if you have spell portal up.

I play BoC and haven't played a pure Tzeentch army, so can't really comment on the funky stuff you can do with Destiny Dice etc. Keep in mind the Herdstone is a very limited factor - The terrain piece is actually very counterintuitive compared to how the army plays overall. The Herdstone aura is so tiny and grows very slowly, yet the army is all about rushing across the table in turn 1/2, meaning you fight away from the battleshock immunity/-1 save bubble.

  7. Pretty much everyone seems to go Skryre - Have anyone tinkered with a 1.000 - 1.500 pts. list consisting of mostly large units of Plague Monks? With the Skaventide buffs being granted to big units, plus extra attacks on the charge, plus potential MWs when damaged, they don't sound that bad. I used to play Skaven like 15 years ago, and with the recent release of the Battle Tome I'm heavily considered trying my luck again with a Pestilens army.

probably been asked a zillion times since the book dropped but does the Fantasmagoria of Fate actually add anything to Tzeentch crews that we are lacking? I could see it bringing in some punchy units like Doombulls, Shaggoths and Bullgors and maybe some cheap chaff, but do any of these really mesh with what Tzeentch lists are wanting to do?

I wouldn't run Bullgors. They are super swingy, and math-wise Enlightened are by far the most damage-pr-point unit in the entire BoC list. Getting a 1-drop army plus access to incredible fast battleline/screen (10 Ungors for 60 pts) is most likely why people prefer BoC over Tzeentch if all you want to do is bring Tzaangor models.

Not the person you asked, but can give a brief description. You charge an enemy with ungors (the screen) and Enlightened. Imagine they line up like this.

    O O O O O O

    u u u u u u u E

               E E E E E.

Only one enlightened is within range of the enemy unit. They have "clipped" it.

So you can attack first with the ungor, they swing back, with only one or two being able to target the Enlightened, Ungor take the hits, Enlightened pile in (and can attack over the top of the ungor if any survive), getting their rerolls without taking too much damage.

You need to clip the unit to complete the charge, since the enlightened need to end the charge with at least one within half an inch.

Damn, that's so smart. 😋 Thanks a lot for the explanation! I guess you don't want all the bases to be right up against each other, since the enemy model will be able to hit over the ungor screen, since 25mm bases equals just less than an inch? Meaning no beak or disc attacks, just spears from the enlightened?

Are you putting your Enlightened behind an Ungors screen and using the clip-charge trick?

I think I've only failed to get the buff on my Enlightened about two times since the book came out.

Can you explain this "clip-charge trick"? I have seen it mentioned multiple times, but haven't really been able to find a good explanation of it.

Yep! Playing Khorne does mean a part horde army (I’ve moved 100+ Orks before, so I’m not a stranger to hordes :/), so now that I think about it, playing Tzaangors doesn’t seem so bad! I’ll admit, I already play one horde army, so the Enlightened suddenly seem more appealing than 100+ ungors/Gors XD

So what about Greatfrays? Is it considered a viable alternative to not go any Greatfray, and instead choose your own command traits?

Im not trying to discourage you from going the Ungors/Bestigors/Raiders route that most people seem to find the “true” way of Beasts of Chaos. I just think its important to realize what you are getting yourself into, since that way is a big horde army.

Thanks a lot! Tbh I don’t mind buying some Enlightened, I just wouldn’t bring 18 of them to a 2k points game (I think I’d go insane painting so many), and yeah I did notice after reading battle reports here  that Beasts of Chaos struggled with killing stuff but were incredible at the objectives game

So I know that the Gavespawn are easily the strongest Greatfray, but are there any ways to make Allherd decently viable in 2k points?

    Also, @The_Yellow_Signbeautiful paint job!!

I used to hate Tzaangors with a passion and wanted to go pure Brayherd (the goats), but when the internal balance is so bad, I've kinda embraced the fact that Tzaangors are simply needed if your opponent likes cheesy lists. You might hate the idea of painting 18 Enlightened, but would you rather paint 40 Ungor raiders + multiple other units of Ungors etc? 😉 I'm liking the idea of not needing to paint 100+ models for a 1.500 pts. game.

I'm not super familiar with how Khorne plays, if you are a horde army too or if you have loads of more "elite" units, but you need to take into consideration if you fancy a "horde army". Some people don't like the idea of having to paint 100-200 models, much less having to move them every game.

You've got it - make sure to add 1 additional attack to your greatblades for your champion (who should definitely have one). As a general rule your casualty removal order is Dual Blades > Mutants > Shield > Greatblades as the Greatblades do the lion's share of the damage in the unit.

According to my BoC tome it's +1 to hit roll and not +1 attack characteristic for the champion?

But thanks a lot for the info!

Thanks man! I don't know why, but the warscroll wasn't very clear to me.

Just to make sure, does this mean that a unit of 30 Tzaangors can have as follows:

    • 6 mutants, all with 4 attacks of Savage Blade (2 base +1 mutant +1 for more than 9 models), gettng +1 to hit due to paired blades.
    • 12 with Savage Greatblades, 2 attacks each with Savage Greatblade (1 base +1 for more than 9 models), no extra +hit
    • 1 with shield, 3 attacks of Savage Blade (2 base +1 for more than 9 models), no extra +hit
    • The remaining 11 will have dual blades, giving them 3 attacks of Savage Blade (2 base +1 for more than 9 models), getting +1 hit due to paired blades

  15. Hey all. I realize Tzaangors are not everyones favourite unit in the Beasts of Chaos army, but I've started feeling a lack of oompf in my army, especially when other people bring kinda cheesy setups to the table. Because of this I have purchased some birdieboys, but I'm really confused about how to equip them. I'm used to entire units either having X or Y weapon type, not this pick and choose for models, that you are able to do with standard Tzaangors.

I have been searching this forum but also googling etc, but can't seem to really find an answer to the first question.

    1. Can you equip the banner and horn dudes with anything additional, or are they just standard attack profile of 1 savage blade + vicious beak.
    2. What is the most optimal lineup of equipment on the dudes?
    3. How do you feel about the rule of 1 guy with a shield "protecting" the entire unit until that specific model dies?
