It certainly allows us to approach our armies in an entirely different way. 1 in 4 units can be marked Beasts is the change I never knew I wanted until right now!

Actually that is more awesome the longer I am thinking about it. I always loved Bestigors and wanted to run some, also a Ghorgon has exactly the punch we lack (-1 Rend 3D Profile). Ungors may be a nice meatshield althrough they really compete with bloodreivers for the slot. But all in all, It looks like a BoC SC! is on the way to me :D Actually, with the option to play BoC and StD as part of the alligience and with the reverted Wrathmonger FAQ BoK would turn back into a damn enjoyable faction for 3.0. Feels almost like having a new Battletome

  2. Regarding the Article and the FAQ I am a bit carefull. Concidering it is GW, it seems more likely someone wrote the article who just got the battletome handed over and who wrote it without knowing an FAQ is out there. The missing FAQ on the Website is also mainly a technical reason as they will upload the new ones (Which btw cuts ties to play 2.0 legacy with faq's in the easy way).

Meanwhile, I hope that this is intended. It would give us, tgether with the ability to use more warscrolls, just the badly needed whif of fresh air to start somewhat refreshed rulewise into the new edition.

So it says you can garrison up to 15 models in a regular defensible terrain piece, which I assume the Skull Altar is since it isn't Large or Very Large. If I put a Bloodsecrator and then 10 Bloodreavers in it, does the Bloodsecrator get the +1 Save and -1 to hit rolls targeting him AND Look Out, Sir! for an extra -1 malus to incoming fire?

I think it would be fun to garrison a Slaughterpriest with Blood Sacrifice in the Altar with his sacrificial Bloodreavers. The garrison gets him down to a 4+ save, apply other bonuses etc.

It's fine, any monster can get lucky and tear it down

  3. To come back to the topic of a Slaughterbrute: They are not terrible but the profile is simply not good enough. They should have either higher damage or more attacks...or both. For the points, 2 Khorgoraths seem like a better deal to me.

About the new tome...I would be glad if we would get some love. During 2.0 we received some model updates (Flesh hounds, Karnak and Skulltaker) and terrain+judgement. While better than nothing, Khorne could really profit from some rework/update like Slaanesh had.

I hope that GW will go from micro-armies and armies that only cover certain roles more into a full range of units for each factions. Khorne could use some shooting and flying units.

I like Skarr a lot. His ability to res is really helpful and actually puts some pressure on your opponent to decide to attack him or, move a unit off an objective or not. I have had games where people deliberately refused to attack him due to the res ability and went for the wrathmongers instead, who could hit after death due to skarrs ability. In other games he has ressed in the opponents backfield allowing me to summon a unit of fleshhounds or worse. The new unit coherency rules make his special attack awesome as he will have more targets. Also the model is ace!

I can confirm manticore lord with sword and Lance is a deadly glass cannon with the right build. Or was in AoS 2. I am not sure if the synergies work now ie new the foe and gorecleaver in the Lance for 7 damage on a charge at rend 2. He dies to a stiff breeze though and has no ability to support our troops.

Manticore Lord actually really shines. All out Attack/All out Defense as well as the Heroic Action that gives him a combat bonus, all make him even greater than before. +1 to Hit/ +1 Save are strong buffs and always welcome as they make our damage output more reliable. Especially when buffed by the Bloodstroker, which will also make the wound rolls much more reliable. Manticore Buff in the current StD Tome was already a really nice thing to receive

" The substance he hammered against his anvil was formless and ephemeral, and yet was harder in its own way than sigmarite or celestite. It was the Legend of the White-Bearded Ancestor, the accumulated stories and lore of all the duardin peoples. It resisted shaping, but he was Grungni the Maker. He could work any material, if given enough centuries to work at it in peace. "

" ‘The duardin have become strong through their trials. As I had always trusted that they would. But they have also become divided. It’s time for them to feel my hand again, to remake that which was once whole. But we duardin aren’t so quick to forgive a wrong done to us, and the wrong I did to them was great indeed. The centuries that have passed since the Age of Myth have been too long and bloody for them to follow me again, and Grimnir is not yet ready to return. There’s only one thing they all share in common, one duardin who can unite them all.’ "

He doesn't work on reforging dwarfs like SCE are reforged. The snippet literarely says he works on using the legends and myths of the White Bearded Ancestor. Together with the second snipped, that shows why he can't simply lead the reunification of the dwarfs directly, it seems like Grungi works on setting up the White Bearded Ancestor to reunite the Dwarfs.

  6. DakkaDakka has an designated rumour and news area and there is always a new thread whether there is a new major rumour or preview happenening. To be fair Dakka has also a higher frequency as they do not only provide news and rumours on AoS but also on other formats

  7. First of all: Thanks for the great post @Mcthew! I wish you the very best for the future and hope you will settle with your hobby in a way that gives you the best experience! :)

I also think that GW Systems feel currently oversaturated due to the bloat of book releases and the evershifting meta which triggers endless debattes in the internet. The fact alone that one doesn't know if the own army will be fun to play after the next battletome is something that really want's me to sell all my AoS/40k stuff, too. But from my experience there is a huge gap between the discussion boards and the real game club. The internet debattes are often loud, doomtelling and tend to sacrifice creativity and fun for sake of efficiency and winning. Meanwhile, most time I meet with people to play, it is about having a good time and putting the newest painted models onto the table. And also, especially when it comes to GW, the community is really loaded. There are plently of people that have a weird relation to GW which doesn't help the overall discussion. Trying other games is here really a good solution as there are many other fun game systems which really profit from each single player supporting it.

  8. I wonder why people dislike Mournfangs so much? While loosing the Battalion in Matched no longer allows fishing for MW's, they got with "All out attack" a huge buff to their reliability (Hitting on 4+ is a damned joke). Where they hit by some points increases?

Btw the Husskard CA is also a neat buff to Mournfangs which also syngergizes well with the All out Attack.

  9. Depends. Greater Deamons profit from Heroic and Monstrous Actions. Bloodletters suffer from the coherency update butprofit from the new stratagems. Bloodcrushers suffer strongly from the new base size and while Skullcrushers profit from scoring rules and become a really usefull choice due to all out defense, Bloodcrushers don't. Cannons and Bloodthrone seem mostly unaffected. Fleshhounds remain good battlelines. The lack of Warscroll Battallions is a shame for multi thirster lists

  10. Btw, anyone played bloodthirsters in the new edition? In theory they should be even better now, as MONSTER HERO units

In addition we can make our Bloodthirsters Wizzards now with the arcane grimoires in 27.5.2

Wat lol, Max he can have is 4+ (quartz last 1 phase) 5++ (he have to waste 1 cast, and can be dispelled)

So if you shoot him while he isnt buffed he will die easily, and any heavy hitter in cqc will splat him in the ground

    remember he costs 660 pts

Well, with new Mystic Shield this goes up to 3+/5++ at least

    Interesting consideration for Beastclaw fanatics:

Odds that Mournfang gain the Monster (or Behemoth for battalion purposes) Keyword in AoS 3? I feel like that would really make Mournfang a VERY solid choice. Not that they're horrible now, but obviously they are kind of sub-par. Not sure how they would affect listbuilding or whatever, but people smarter than I am can discuss this! Just a thought!

No chance. With the new Monster rules? It would be just a crazy and in my opinion unjustified buff

Khorne will be the last faction that gets an article: Either we get some nice reveals or gw needs all this time to come up with at least some points why Khorne is worth playing, before abandoning the idea and writing about how good allied Slaves to Darkness are :D:D:D

Edit: Sorry, meant to write this in the Salt-Containment-Threa...I mean in the Khorne Faction Thread!

According to some rumours, Daughters of Khaine's points have been increased.

"Sisters up 20, stalkers  up 30. Morathi up 60, basically everything went up 10 or more"

I haven't seen any photo evidence, but if it's true, then maybe there will be a points increase across the board.

Well, I don't know about validity of this but it would make sense. Stalker Spam + Morathi is quite a powerfull combo and feel like something that was not intended by the Dev's this way. On the other side, reinforcement rules for 3.0 would tackle this issue as well

Have we seen anything about the number of models in regards to reinforcements? So my BigStabbas are minium 2 models. So I can only take 4 in a single unit now???

I assume that in most cases the current min size will be used as new unit size.

Well, comparing the Editions I look forward to 3.0, althrough it will be a true leap into a new sort of balance:

    • 1.0 was a big rebrand from WHFB which aimed at making things different and easy and "fun". A lot of experimental stuff was later dropped but also the core aspects of AoS were defined at this early stage already:
      • Skirmishy Army Game hybrid with faction based balancing for easier learning.
      • Warscrolls limit unit rules to about 1 page or less, with the most important values beeing easy to find
      • Different kinds of units are all showed with the same sort of profiles. Minor deviations for Artillery
      • Magic system vastly as we know it right now
      •
    • 1.5 was "the big fix" adding structure to the ruleset which was required for a competetive/fair matched play.
      • Points to balance the game
      • Battlefield roles (Battleline/Leader) as well as restrictions to listbuilding
      • Alligiences added more depths to the armies
    • 2.0 was mostly a polish which defined this "restructured" experiment into the game we know. It improved but didn't redefined gameplay
      • Adjustments to Magic (bigger ban radius, endless spells added)
      • Shooting was limited so it could be "bound" in close combat
    • 2.9 is what the game became with all the Battletomes added
      • Battletomes added a lot of content to all factions, and with it a load of balance issues
      • New design approaches like f.e. Combat Order manipulation lead the "have/have nots" to dominate Meta
      • Invocations created to add Endless Spells to Factions w/o magic
    • 3.0 has to come out yet, but we already can see what GW is aiming for: Getting the gameplay shaped up in a way again that makes the game feel like a fight of glorious heroes, huge monsters and some brave and exotic fighters.
      • The heroic/monstrous deeds add options for gameplay as well as more heroic feel to the gameplay
      • New cohesion rules also strongly hinder "weird" movement and model placement like conga lining or chafflines. This will propably be also to improve the aesthetics of the game. Minor remark: <Wholy Within> wording was introduced for the same purpose
      • Reworked Battleplans pushing for MSU improves the skirmishy feel of the game.

  16. I'd like to throw my hat for Slaves to Darkness into the ring! Despoilers offer healing to monsters, the chance to turn terrain into LoS-blockers as well as an increased buff bubble. We have access to Daemon Princes which are quite good units with the iniate ability to fight first. We have wizzards (CSLoM) that do some fair damage due to their mounts, we have a totem that comes handy in 3.0 (Warshrine), we have cool utility monsters (Tzeentch Tentacle thingy, Mindsphirax) and some nice brutes (with Soul Grinders and Slaughterbeasts as well as Formoid Crushers). And if you like big baddies we still have Archaon and Belakor. Only "downside" is the Battleline which is hard to be on theme (Althrough Gorebeast Chariots fit in my opinion)

Define Spam List? 20+ Models? I doubt it. But a buffed unit of 10 can really shine quite easy with tons of hits and potential mortals. They don't need much support, rather propper targets that provide them the rerolls. To build a spam list the usual Bloodsecrator and Bloodstroker are a solid support choice, especially as latter one helps them to land a load of save rolls for the opponent to roll.. Also the "ignore -1 rend" battalion is really solid to improve durability. Brozen Flesh Prayer for +1 to save is another good option to keep them around for longer, meanwhile killing frenzy isn't that necessary. Sadly we lack a propper way to give them +1 Rend which would be a huge improvement.

Okay, nevermind, with the new coherency rules here is my updated tought on this topic:

-Never play more than 10. You would loose too much due to weird coherency reasons. Units of 5 are fine, they don't need much buffs and fit this way easier into the bubbles of wrathmongers or the charge reroll bubbles we have access to.

Btw the coherency renders our Juggernaut-Cavallery even more useless then before as we basically have to decide whether we want to loose the good D3 Mortals-charge or of we want to loose half a squad worth of attacks.

Also Bloodreavers lost loads of use as we can't use them as screen-line anymore.
