Games like this are lessons in why you should always play the objective.

And why you shouldn't concede turn 1! We see people quit after a rough first round too often. Shows sticking with it can pay off. Great report!

honestly the biggest way you can help is trying to insure and help how he can charge with his heavy hitters. maybe some range and chaff would help? I am just speculating so I hope my thoughts are good.

Hmmm, wonder if I could get away with bringing some good old artillery then. If I fill the board with warriors to screen his charges and protect key units we might fare okay.

Unfortunately this is all speculation as we have no idea what we'll be up against! Thanks again

if my opponent brought more chaff and screeners than I would probably bring two squads of eels for more punch, but otherwise it would remain the same

    Interesting! Thanks for the input.

I was thinking of going with my more elite units, ironbreakers/drakes etc, but now you mention it it may be better for me to swap these out for cheaper units to add more wounds to the board (warriors/thunderers etc), which would allow him to bring extra damage dealing. Us Dwarfs can take many hits, but we don't deal out as much damage as he would.

  4. Greetings Elgi!

My brother and I are playing in a 1000 point doubles tournament in a couple of months. He plays Idoneth and I use Dispossessed. Thought I'd ask here as he does not have an account what you guys think about potential lists. What would your standard 1000 point lists look like and would you make any changes for playing with a partner?

We are both very flexible in what we can bring, so this is not an issue. I was thinking his eels etc would make it easy to get into melee, meaning I can bring some ranged stuff and offer lots of fire support.

Any thoughts and discussion are much appreciated!

@Grim Grudgebearer Do you know what your brother’s deepkin list is? Without any prior knowledge I would suggest to go wide though, warriors, and then some ranged support for the deepkin. I’m sure he’s bringing eels, so you won’t have to worry about getting into melee first.

We're both quite flexible on what we can bring. He likes eels so I expect he will bring a few. I'll be talking to him tomorrow so we can do some planning then.

My thought was if he can hit hard and fast early on, I may be able to sit back and support with a lot of ranged fire. Though this will obviously depend on what we end up fighting :D

  6. Hi all. There is a doubles tournament coming up at the end of March in my store and I wanted to ask for some advice! My partner is my own brother, who plays Idoneth Deepkin and I will be representing the noble Dawi.

So what I'd like to ask is if anyone has any experience with Idoneth and how they would work well with us. It is 1000 points each, for reference.

It has been discussed on this thread how at just 1000 points it is generally better to have more wounds on the board rather than going for elite units. I wondered if this would change with a teammate also fielding 1000 points.

Would like a discussion on this, so would appreciate any thoughts and ideas about lists or the doubles format in general!

Also, @Dammaz I'd like to see this 'Grudge-Keeper' we've all been talking about become our named hero. Now that we're living amongst the Umgi in the Free Cities, it wouldn't have to be a High King necessarily, but we must have some kind of political system separate to them? So maybe some kind of elder dwarf statesman who speaks for the Dwarfs and represents them?

  7. Loving reading all these ideas! Been looking through and have combined a couple as to what I would like to see.

So we all want a grudge-keeping hero in some way and also many ideas about a terrain piece? What about a grudge-keeping hero with a terrain piece of some kind of giant oath stone?

Many Dwarfs in the old lore stood on oath stones to increase morale, leadership, defence etc. Would love to see a larger-scale version of this. So perhaps being in the vicinity of the oath stone gives out buffs? Would fit with our synergy style and work with the new hero. Maybe with some kind of building system or extra grudges from the hero to add to the stone as the battle continues, as someone mentioned, to prevent it from essentially being a fortress piece?

Basically trying to combine everything I would love to see for us. Bring back oath stones! Belegar would approve!

Then I’ll add mining and craftsmanship as well.

So My dream is still, heavily armoured dwarfs, think ironbraekers, irondrakes etc. Drop everything who wears a shirt. Add a mining unit as the new battle line. Again heavily armoured. A close range flamer shooting unit which usually clears hallways with flame, make it a double kit with maybe a long range ‘sniper’ kind of unit. No artillery, cause how often you doing that underground?

Keep the slow thing but Dispossessed only fight when they want to. So play wise; Lots of deep striking/mining options followed by a slow march if you need to reposition. Keeping with that theme: the allegiance ability should not be about being faster yourself but slowing the other down. So D3+1 cave in markers could be placed after set up. All blocking movement, maybe with a master miner as a character who lets you add another at turn two due to his excellent foresight and skill.

Backed up with a grudge and rune system for traits and abilities and i’d Be a very happy man.

Only thing I’m missing would be a bigger centrepiece model. So maybe the rumoured clockwork golems could be good for that?

Take my money. Take it all!

My throng has grown a lot since Christmas but any releases like this would be instant buys too. I really hope a tome we get would include lots of this emphasis on the underground, tunnelling nature of old school dawi.

The lore on Dispossessed mentions them tearing down and rebuilding cities with superior building and engineering, but since miner units aren't a thing anymore we have nothing on the tabletop currently which shows this side of the faction.

A while ago someone on this thread mentioned something about some kind of landmine idea. This fits well with the 'blocking'/slow you down, ideas to get around our slow movement. Really hope they go down this road soon!

  9. Surely we'll keep the option to use our 'Dispossessed' allegiance? I love the idea of new models but what new artillery could they come out with for us? Maybe a new model for old compendium artillery like the grudge thrower? Idk.

I love dwarfen artillery and hope we still have options. Otherwise I'll be trying to find a realistic way to pack as many Thunderers into one army as possible :D

Reading the comment by @Dammaz I’m in full agreement. But... if you can force Archoan away from certain areas because of an 100p model that’s a brilliant result as well 😂

Ooh that's a great way of looking at it. I hadn't thought about it like that. Damn at this rate it will take me an hour to make each decision haha

Well, if your opponent doesn't know about this nasty little combo, it might go well if you play carefully. He may be eager to take the bait and charge head on.

But beware, he probably won't take the bait twice... :D

Yeah I think if I had spent the money and time on that amazing model I'd probably want to go charging in with it too. Seems like positioning will be key to how well I do. Thanks for the insights guys!

  12. Definitely seems like my best chance of taking out something huge like Archaon. Do as much damage as possible with super buffed unforged then shoot the rest if he's still alive. Trouble is gonna be getting unforged into Archaon, while still being in range to get the buffs, right?

Welcome beardling! And good luck with your hobby and upcoming match. Any chance we can get some pictures of you army?

I'll post a picture of the first unit I painted soon!

As for the match, it looks like it will be against a mixed Chaos list. Is this the chance to try and let the Unforged shine? I have heard he's not great but those bonuses against Chaos seem fun.

  14. Hey guys! I'm very new to the hobby but I've spent the last couple of months trying to find my feet, learn the lore and how to play and just wanted to say this thread is GOLD for a new player. And I know you Duardin love gold heheh.

I couldn't lurk forever though so wanted to let you know to keep up the good work. After Christmas I'll be playing my first full game so I'll try to get a report up so you can see how the Dispossessed do from a total beginner's perspective.

    Wish me luck!
