I agree with absolutley all of that.  It's just that every rumor we have says to worry and so I am. I mean idk if Singapore Warhound had the indexes but even he gave a sad react to my question of beasts and we KNOW he's got access to something to take potato pics of.

It would be great to have it confirmed so people know what to do with their BoC armies. I was planning to buy and paint the vanguard box but I’m going to skip that until we know more.

This looks like cash grab mobile game art. I know it's not but geez is that a step-down in art quality.

Agreed, hopefully this is just for the emails and promotional stuff.

It is a real shame that artist Thomas Elliot left GW last November. He did such a good job in giving AOS a more mature and epic aspect without being overly depressing, which I think is too often the case in 40k.

I really hope that whoever comes in to replace him is going to be as good or better.

I heard preorder is 22th and It will come first July week after two preorder weeks.

Seems  like a long way in the future, It’s going to be a challenge to keep the hype from now on till July.

they mentioned a "modular" rules system so maybe we're (finally) getting a "casual version" without battle tactics and other stuff, and a "tournament" one with the added seccondaries. After all, the lack of a "casual battlepack" was a common critique to 3.0

    Fingers crossed !

All the players in my local club have left AoS because are too complicated and it’s really difficult to get back in after you had  a break. I have only be able to find games at tournaments ever since.

Hopefully this new edition will bring them back and also many new bloods !

  5. Even the ghb battle tactics are annoying and unbalanced, some armies can naturally do them while others have to make sacrifices (Who has ever wanted to play with units of furies ?) to be able to score them. Imo fighting for objectives is enough, we don’t need extra challenges.

Fun story. But this passage has to be straight out of "How to not write fantasy 101":

Absolutely incomprehensible to anyone who doesn't already know what the setting. And probably even a few people who do.

Now imagine reading this while English is not your native tongue 😅

Tbh this was not the worst one to read among the latest short stories. I really struggled with the one where sce are fighting fec because a large part of it is describing very high fantasy elements, plus they  were not even relevant  to the plot of the story.

On the "death as a protagonist " theme- Nagash has lost his hold over death as there is a Grombrindal story were he visits one of the dwarf underworlds which had been locked up and wasted away under siege. Grombindal opens the gates and fresh dwarf spirits arrive, break the siege and renew the underworld. Grombindal says the great enemy is weakened. So the duardin are reclaiming their underworlds, other powers could do the same so Death forces wouldn't necessarily be under Nagash..

This would explain why they have been introducing more Death gods into the lore.

I don't believe the rumours of BoC dissapearing as a faction. I am more induced to think in a mutation instead.

Yeah me neither, that « rumour » is only a speculation from the HWG who ´s never really been a reliable source. Let’s say he interprets more than he knows.

Remember when he said to not buy the dawngbringer box set for fec because the models inside were getting an update ?

AoS needs to start building up its own cast of characters that people care about at some point. I think giving Ionus and Khorgus Khul new, cool models is a good step in that direction. Nobody would likely care if they didn't get new models, but picking up their narrative from the Realmgate Wars again is a good way to avoid the whole "This new guy who came out of nowhere is actually super important to the setting" situation.

This, the lore has been really poor in this edition IMO, many characters are still massively underdeveloped (Kragnos) and yet GW carry on adding new ones out of the blue, like Belthanos, without any foreshadowing.

I understand that their job is to sell new models but it would be nice to incite us with a stronger background story. I’d like to care about these new heroes and the fates of the two dawnbringer crusades but somehow I  can’t be bothered. To me, it feels like I am just reading a series of battle reports with many deus ex machina - here is god x and y, they do sth then they are gone.

I would really hate strike first on the charge. It would massively weaken strike first as a mechanic and also really push alpha strike lists. At the moment you need to choose where and when to engage, strike first on the charge is a big push to just always swinging in with combat capable units. I'm in favour of more conditional strike first, and units being able to combination attack, but not just blanket strike first.

Failing a charge would be failing to organise enough to advance as a group in battle ready formation I guess, which is why it is easier the closer you are, stuff like musicians make it easier etc. Its a game choice to have your unit not advance at all as opposed to charging with some kind of penalty, or lost models or whatnot.

I am talking of the strike first on the charge as it is currently in 40k: units who have charged will be able to fight with a strike first only after all the units from the opposing army with the strike first ability have attacked. Non charging strike first is therefore not irrelevant but actually more dangerous. Obviously you need to rebalance the game a bit, but it's not like alpha strikes lists are dominating the meta currently, most armies have access to strong or numerous screens imho.

  11. I agree with the points made by @Mutton I would also add strike first on the charge.

I also find the engagement range of 1 inche in 40k better (instead of 3 inches in aos), I don't like checking up all the time the 3' space between units non in combat,  I also don't like the possibility to fail a charge at a very short range and 40k fix that imo

I have never really understood the reasoning behind the concept of failing or succeeding a charge in a wargame like Warhammer. I can understand that you can lose the momentum in a battle  because of various factors (bad terrains, pikes, shooting...) and lose the effect of a charge,  however you  still end up in combat with your enemies by moving towards them.

  12. It would be really cool if Ushoran is leading a death revolution against Nagash

The designers and sculptors do like to pay attention to this kind of symbolism. Be’lakor for example has the dying chaos warrior on his base to indicate his role as the prince that’s bitterly opposed to the intentions of the rest of chaos. Could see something similar being done for Ushoran, perhaps.

Some of those tactics are impossible to achieve for a few factions. Having tactics that are literally unscorable is a huge disadvantage.

While Matched Play is supposed to be the most fair way to play AoS,  the balance between battle tactics within both seasons and battletomes has been terrible for the whole edition. I feel bad for someone who decided to start AoS with SoB, I really hope this won’t happen again in v4.

Watching the 40k stream made me realise how much of an AoS guy I am now. I used to play both 40k and fantasy.

Same, I’ve  literally shrugged when I watched the box reveal. 40k doesn’t inspired me anymore ( it did when I was a kid) I am definitely a fantasy bro now.
