I have a few of the new formula Vallejo's and yes they seem really quite nice. I usually gravitate towards Oranges & Teals/Turquois so when a newline is released I grab a few samples of these colours and giver a go. The old line of Army Painter has some of my favorite colours (Lava Orange..etc) and find it quite interesting the the old versions require far less shaking as they never seem to seperate all that much. whereas the newer line (prior to the relaunching ) need to shake the bejesus out of them and they don't match up to the old. Even their newest line can't colour match to the vibrancy of the old one, however the New Game Color line comes pretty damn close.

I'm with you on the Citadel & Reaper lines, enjoy quite a few but they do seem to be bottom tier nowadays. I do however enjoy the few Contrast paints I own & as for Scale 75, I've never really been on board with them. I have some....maybe 1st gen versions and that was enough to really put me off of them. They glaze terrible but layer like a dream so they have their uses. I do have a few newer ones and they seem to glaze better but the damage was already done.

I think it was Vince Venturella (sorry if I misspelled the last name) that had a nice recipe for a gold using Metal Color & Green Stuff World gold pigment if I'm not mistaken, haven't gotten around to trying that yet, but it looked aces!

I know Vince swears by using VMC with Fyreslayers skin (or something like that) contrast paint for bronze tones. I find that mixing VMC gold and copper creates a truly pleasing gold, haven‘t tried the pigments though, that sounds interesting. But I usually remain remain strictly in the realm of cooler tones so I don‘t want a truly warm gold anyways.

Ossiarch, Hedonites, and yes... even those cursed Lumineth all have Spearheads calling to me like Poe's Telltale Heart.... the call is real

I'd rather take a spear to the head before I collect Lumineth! 😤 Your top 3 picks are my least likely 3 picks. 😂

Like most folks I have a collection made up of many different manufactures but my go to's are from Pro Acryl & AK gen 3. I was a very early adopter of Pro Acryl from when they were first introduced on the Creature Caster website & from following Jason's Twitch feed. They are really excellent paints. AK is a more recent purchase...well Gen 3 anyway as I used to buy P3 paints but they've become very hard to find in my area so I switched to Gen 3 and am really happy with them.

For metallics Metal Color for anything silver/steel and really just about any other manufacturer for other metals (Gen 3, Pro Acryl, Scale 75...etc)

If you want to stick with just Metal Color for metallics, a mix out of the Old Gold and Copper paints makes for a great gold that isn't too cold. Or just mix one of their silvers with inks or even Contrast paints etc.

Vallejo's new model color line is more like their (GREAT!) new game color line by the way. Very decent paints, easy to work with paints and that have no "quirks" (quirks might be the wrong word, their consistency/handling is just something you need to keep in mind) like scale75 or Kimera. The new colors are an exact match to the old ones and they added a very nice dark blue (almost black-blue) that is something I use for my figures, so that's nice. Haven't tried the metallics of the new model color line though.

Right now, from all brands I own, I find Citadel and Reaper paints to be the worst overall. They have some great colors too, but some are a bit crappy too tbh.

  4. I‘m sure that ultimately it‘s all for Tzeentch‘s benefit, right? At least that‘s what the lore claims!

Which doesn‘t make things easier at all though. So many cool spearheads out there, the freedom of choice is crippling. Noble-born knights on a just crusade, Elden Ring-esque humans, sweet rats…vampires with awesome skeletons. And that‘s just half of the armies I‘d like to paint! 😂🤦‍♂️I wish this was 40k, where fewer armies call to me. 😅

Just focus yourself on the third one you've mentioned 😏

Sorry but I‘ll probably always remain a lowly pawn of Tzeentch. 😇 But I dunno, maaaaaaybe I could convince my group to each get a new force for spearhead, it would be fun. I‘d just feel like a cheater. Poor Tzeentch!

  6. Watch GW dropping spearheads as soon as they've hooked you on collecting a couple of cool extra factions next to your main and putting in the work, so that you'll then have to turn them all into full-blown collections too.  You know it, I know it, they certainly know it. :D

I do like the idea of it. Skaven, Flesh-Eaters, Cities, Seraphon, Soulblight, Nighthaunt.... so many cool factions out there, so little time.

Wdym? I only registered to year 2 (currently running sub), but I think I've read it pretty clearly that the minis are only available for those who purchased a subscription during that year.

I've registered to WH+ on the first day you could, so I should get one mini per year for free and have the option to buy the second exclusive one if I wanted to. GW owes me my year 2 mini as I can't order it anymore (and didn't order it before) but it was never stated to be a timed exclusive, you just needed to be subscribed in that year. You get one mini per year you are subscribed to, so since I'm a subscriber since year 1, I should be able to order the missing one. Right now, I got the minis for year 1 and 3. Once again, it doesn't matter, the figure is mostly a big meh anyways but they should've said that you need to order them until date X in order to get them (I claimed them early and expected to be able to get them when i next order other stuff along with it).

Edit: whoops, thought this was a new post and I didn't explain it well enough.

So you have to buy them during your year subscription period?

Yes. Also order the one included in your subscription ASAP, don't be a moron like me!

Perhaps they will produce another run but currently you can't order the first and second year minis anymore. This and not giving non-UKers a chance to get the Steel Rook seriously annoys me. I don't need those minis, it's not like they're important in a Tzeentch collection but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Or not being able to get the Nurgle herald for AGES (and we all know that it's a standout mini). GW fails so often in recent years and it's a shame as for a couple of years they did pretty much everything right. Now they're in self-sabotaging mode. Sorry for the negativity, I don't want to whine, I just want Warhammer to flourish and it feels like they stand in their own way.

They still owe me my Slaves sorceress from year 2 and I can‘t order it now and despite writing them I never got it. I can live without it (tho I‘d like the little cultist familiar) but it sucks that these minis are time-sensitive despite them never stating they are. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I thought I‘d order it along with some stuff so that I don‘t cause them extra shipping but let‘s just say that I‘ve learned something for the future. Every nice deed gets punished instantly! 😆

Yeah. Since the beginning, it seems to me that they didn't put the investment required for it to work and that the minis are saving the day.

This. And then those minis can't be ordered after some time and they don't tell you that. 😂

See it on the other hand. On the reveal day Skavens will steal the show as SCE will have only 3 heroes or so to show.

As good as the new SCE sculpts are, Skaven will steal the show no matter what, even if SCE got an amazing surprise mini in the box or whatever I think.

People haven‘t got any significant Skaven release in ages (at least no real AoS release, just some scraps here and there like WH Underworlds) and SCE - while really well made - are „just more Stormcast“. I think the general reactions by people align with that assessment, not trying to diss them….it‘s just that the fandom has waited ages for Skaven and NO army with a ton of releases in the last years could get that kind of reaction. When Sephiroth was babbling about a homecoming, he was probably talking about Skaven finally getting AoS stuff! *rat-logic*

edit: What I’m trying to say, without wanting to come iff as a SCE hater: It‘s a testament to the quality of the new SCE minis that non-SCE players are remotely positive about SCE getting so much stuff again to be honest. I like SCE but find it annoying that some factions got nothing while SCE gets remade units already… and I find that at least the new minis are great updates overall (although I think the old liberator heads were great tbh) so that makes the pill easier to swallow in a way. Hope I got my point across.

Now we need Ogors and Malerion at least before existing forces get stuff. 😇

Yeah, Tzeentch should be extremely good sorcerers with tricks and debuffs, but they should fold easily in melee too. The Lumineth shouldn’t have what should be Tzeentch’s thing.

Well, there have been some pretty strong melee fighters among Tzeentchians too but yeah, in general most Tzeentchians aren't amazing in CC and there need to be some drawbacks somewhere (they could do it via points though). I figure Tzeentch might get such a unit when they get a mortal elite one day. At least I hope so but I'm now breaking my own very own rules in this thread if I continue. 😂 I think others like Lumineth having such units isn't wrong though (they are supposed to be extremely gifted mages after all), it's just feels really wrong that Tzeentch hasn't got them and the overabundance of mortals isn't great fun for the receiving player. I think spells could (and perhaps should) move away from mortal wounds as the standard as well. Not every spell should have damage that qualifies as a mortal wound IMO.

  14. … it can‘t have anything to do with your faction! It could be rules, miniature releases, updates or changes, background, kits… what would you do?

I‘d want more basic terrain in plastic, hills, cliffsides, swamps, whatever, maybe even printed neoprene mats. I figure all these things don‘t sell too well as there have been more generic offerings in the past by GW but I think they would help a lot of tables. There‘s only so much you can do with ruined buildings and lightweight terrain building is difficult enough that most people don‘t bother.

  15. Well, if they add other faction‘s minis on the base, then I‘d like that to be optional. In general I‘m pretty ambivalent towards them although I think I have a very slight preference for no tactical rock but it‘s definitely not a dealbreaker for me. It fits very special minis, like those inspired from artwork or special editions or unique characters better than basic heroes IMO.

The tactic under discussion is achieved by two small units walking in a straight line out from their territory for one or two turns, which you've admitted is over your head, so clearly you don't.

Age of Sigmar can require a pretty thorough grasp of its rules and tactical decision-making to play at higher levels -- resource management, manipulating pile-ins, anticipating an opponent's turn and preparing for the changing board state -- and you just circle back to parroting half-remembered statements you've heard other people say when you're presented with anything drawn from the world outside your own basement. Maybe you should just tactfully bow out of AOS discussions which have greater complexity than "will you paint your minis." That's one tactic you can probably get the hang of, even if you can't figure out how to score any in-game.

Disregarding your tone and that it’s possible with probably every faction (SOB might be the exception) to get it done, how is making sure that two units wander off to fulfill the battle tactic any fun at all?

That‘s my bigger gripe with battle tactics. Do random stuff for points. That‘s like when you have to do extra things in hard mode of a game (not use ability X, don‘t jump, whatever) for a challenge.

Whoever came up with this should go back to the basics. I don‘t see Chess going „yo, move your knight in a circle 3 times and you‘ll get another queen“ and I dare to say that Chess is like a thousand times better as a ruleset than any GW game. I know, apples and oranges but GW‘s main concern with their rule sets should be to make the basic framework great before adding tons of extra rules. They only make the game deeper by making the players having to keep more stuff in mind. The battle tactics in 4th might be better than 3rd ed‘s but I‘d rather have it closer to 2nd than 3rd.

Those were Gorgers; they've always looked monstrous. The new ones for Warcry were very nice models but kept pretty close to the existing Gorger aesthetic, tbh.

Ah, ok, thanks for filling me in! 🙏

I don't collect Ogres, but think they belong in the mortal realms setting. They have been a bystander for most of AOS and think having them be the powerful opposing force for the 5th edition launch would be cool. They could also show up at the end of edition campaign similar to how FEC got a revamp with model and lore.

What I wonder after seeing the WarCry ones - will Ogors in general become more monstrous? The classic Ogor looks like a giant powerlifter (well, a very unattractive interpretation of one) but the new ones reminded me more of something like ghouls on steroids. I‘ve got no real opinion on or preference regarding Ogors but those minis made me think that the ones closer to humans will just be part of Cities and the Mawtribes might become more „unique“ in appearance? Barbaric traits are pretty much Darkoath‘s thing now so perhaps GW wants to reinvent Ogors a bit? 🤔

Would Ogor fans like that or not is what I‘m basically asking myself…
