I'm super confused. How did the seventh battletome from now get leaked? We still don't even know any of the rules from the Nighthaunt book.

I don't think I've ever seen a leak that skips so far ahead in time before.

The Horus Heresy box revealed this week leaked about a year ago.

We also saw primaris well ahead of when we should have.

Do the extra Beast rules make using Tzeentchy units better than just going all Tzeentch Disciples instead?  Destiny Dice and mega-sorcery are quite potent accompaniments.

Oh most definitely. Enlightened in particular are NUTS

I would guess so once they have skimmed the dragon money.

It is just silly now. You can't even charge them because even two dragons have a decent chance to take out 8 Thralls, two eels or a shark before you can even swing. That will have to change at some point.

Here speaketh someone who hasn't used dragons! Those breath attacks do nothing.

(joking aside, the damage spikes they have are obnoxious)

I have 20 Tzaangor, 6 of both disc-gors, and a shaman. Wonder if theyre worth using as Beasts of chaos?

I reckon so. Extra rend on the tzaangor is deadly, plus a block of tzaangor rallying on 4+ is tough to chew through.

I think some of the designers know about the issue of waiting your opponent since they implemented command you can use during the enemy turn, as you said.

I have yet to play a game of AoS (more of a hobbyist as of now since I can't play unpainted models....and slow painter) but the Double Turn was a thing that made me consider playing 40k instead (the problems 40k has are too many stratagem and power creep). Why ? Because if it happens...I'll be waiting way too long before playing myself. I like when games are fast paced and interactive. Waiting two turns that one player finish the other seems like the opposite of fun to me.

The mechanic is not fun to me and not well thought. To me it's like playing against the game and not the player I face. You deploy and react accordingly to a mechanic that could harm you or benefit you and that none of both players can count on (unlike command abilities) and gives you a game breaker bonus...seems a bit dull to me.

I don't mean to be dismissive but it is hard to take your view seriously given that you have not played it...

Interesting observation that is probably not particularly useful, but is kind of neat anyway. The scions of the storm command trait that gives -1 to hit units that were set up during the move phase that turn doesn't specify set up for the first time, so it works with ride the winds aetheric and astral compass. That said, it lasts only until the end of the turn and it's a 9" charge if you want to make use of it so it's probably not particularly useful. Still kind of interesting, I would love to do an astral templars vanguard chamber list with vanguard hunters, palladors, lord aquilor, and it might be an alright pick there.

I'm pretty sure that also was the case when it was part of the scions battle trait last edition too (and that I managed to forget for over 150 games...)

What I would like to see happen with Stormdrake Guard:

Remove the hero phase move.  There is literally no reason for that to be on the warscroll, and it gives them unmatched mobility in the stormcast roster.  This ability alone is what makes them so hard to balance, because it gives them a role that cannot be matched by anything else in the stormcast roster, and makes it so they can't be easily balanced by points cost changes.

Adjust the breath weapon.  D3-d6 mortals is extremely swingy, and is what really leads to feel bad situations.  Yes, the average damage for a single dragon's breath weapon is 1.8 mortal wounds, meaning a squad of 4 has an average of 7.2 mortal wounds.  However, that isn't going to help when someone has a lucky day and spikes 20 mortals off their breath weapon, and then another 20 mortals from a hero phase shoot.  Instead, they should either have the fulminators breath weapon (d3 on a 4+), or if they want to keep it slightly better they can make it 3-4 = d3, 5-6=d3+1.  This takes the spikes off their damage and makes them less swingy.

Those 2 changes alone will drastically adjust the stormdrake guard, and put them in a position where their original 285 points is about right for the models.  It still allows someone to play the all-dragon list, it still keeps them fast, tanky, and able to perform their roles.  But it eliminates the easy turn 1 charges that they can get right now, and also eliminates the feel-bad situation of someone getting lucky and spiking hard with the shooting.  It also puts them into a catagory with the rest of the stormcast roster where they can be fairly easily adjusted with points costs, as nothing that they do is so far out from the rest of the roster to be in-comparable.

Personally, I'm a big fan of being able to run an all-dragon list.  I totally want to run one myself one of these days.  However, I think that they need to do the same thing as the rest of the roster and perform a role that is desireable as part of the army, but not as the whole army themselves, and an all-dragon list should be a fun meme-list (like the all steam tank list), not an actual top-tier competitive option.

    couldn't agree more.

  8. It is a boring and one dimensional list. In isolation the warscroll is fine (except the stupid potential damage spike from the breath) for its points.

But the warscroll is just a mess. Why do they get a hero phase move? They are already fast. Why can they then charge? Why can they do that after teleporting via translocation? Why do they get a spell ward (Krondys/karazai don't IIRC)?  I can understand the eating a model and the flame breath - those feel right for a dragon.

Then there's the 3" coherency which makes sense from a practical point of view, but has huge ramifications in play terms (don't allow them to be reinforced imo).

I'm very happy to be wrong about war scroll changes to dragons and points nerfs to fulminators and longstrikes.  I said I'd happily admit I was wrong if those things didn't happen, so here it is:  I was wrong, and I'm glad I was wrong.  Good call to those of you who said it wouldn't happen.  :)

This update is honestly pretty great for Stormcast from a competitive stand point.  Expect to see Stormcast keep doing well at tournies.

Fair play to you for acknowledging this

Great. GW is literally so desperate not to have work on 3rd Edition that they'd rather resurrect Cursed City.

ah yes if only they'd release more aos. It has been three days since the last army book. Come on, let's be better than this baseless whining.

Seems like this (and other posts along the same line) is backwards.

The reason these units are so popular, Longstrikes in particular, is because the game is currently saturated with extraordinarily resilient lists, usually single models. Sons, Nagash, Archaon, horror spam, and soon Nurgle. Then you get all the lists building crazy high damage to beat those lists. The only way to play in this meta is massive resilience or crazy high damage.

They need to fix both things, everywhere, all at once. Nerfing long/fulms just kicks SCE out of the meta. Nerfing crazy damage just makes high resilience win. Nerfing resilience just leads to more spiralling one-drop alpha strike lists.

Yes, I agree. It isn't a zero sum game. But part of that is recognising and accepting that some of our units need nerfing. Rather than complaining about it.

I can definitely see this. Heck even as a SCE player it's still a shock that we got so many warscroll abilities scrapped & too many Stormhosts feel terrible, yet we're consistently hearing good news from tournament play. Even if we consider that biased reporting, there's no denying what GW did worked (for now).

It is only a shock if you don't really get the game, to be honest. That's perfectly fine, but a lot of the complaints were born out of ignorance, rather than experience.

(not to suggest that the book is perfect, or that all of teh complaints made about it are invalid!)

I 100% disagree with that. If we are speaking about how competitive stormcast are, they are in a good spot now. In 2.0 it was one of worst army in the game, now in every single tournemant all over the world they pretty mutch always got 4-1 . Sometimes 5-0.

I dont think translocation prey nerf is a big deal in this army. Fulminators and logstrike are prob the best units in the game and tgere are many playable list/ units amd combos.

About stormdrakes their warscroll is the same. Prob one of the best warscroll in the game. You can still fit into a list 4 drakes and 6 longstrike , so I dont see a reason to cry about STCE!😓

    Thanks for this sensible opinion

Guys if I play host of everchosen can I use archaon command ability to see who got the next turn, and after pick the battle tactic for the current turn? Thx!

They both happen at 'The Start of the Hero Phase' IIRC, therefore as the active player you can choose the order of affairs. So, yes.
