Kurnothi is not enough big to be the release to close the edition. A simple wave instead a new unique faction is like two steps backward when we come from Idoneth, Soulblight or World Eaters.

That's my take as well: Chorfs as the big release, Kurnothi accompanying them, as a Sylvaneth supplement. But ofc that's wild guessing on my part.

Trying to make sense of all of these rumours and hints and whatever about Chorfs.

    • The AoS roadmap ends in winter 2023-2024 with Dawnbringers 4 and FEC.
    • The 40k roadmap extends into spring 2024 with 5 codexes. But there can't be whole 3 months without anything from AoS... there has to be an AoS release in spring 2024. But by then Dawnbringers will be ended and all current BTs will be updated. If something happens for AoS, it's either a 2.0 version of a BT (not gonna happen if a new edition is around the corner) or a brand new army.
    • GW has been dropping lore hints at Chorfs. Hobgrots, Horns of Hashut, Trugg in the Adamantine Chain...
    • There's 2 precedents of armies that launched right at the end of an edition : Idoneth in AoS1, Soulblight in AoS2. Both in may of the last year of their respective editions.

If I were to make a prognosis, I'd bet Chaos Dwarfs will arrive to AoS in May 2024.

You know who would really fit with a Chorfs release?
Some Sylvaneth fighting the destruction of their woods. Kurnothi maybe??

    I like your narrative!

  3. Great reveal. I even like the Marines.

But let’s cut to the case. Those Ironjaws look like real winners to me. What a range… . Ardboys successfully distinguish themselves from brutes and looks absolutely stunning doing so! Now. If only one could swap the grunta pigs into ones that look like the big pig.

Trogg makes me wanna play troggs is all I can say to that marvelous beast.

Warcry Box doesn’t have a single bad model, which is also chef‘s kiss!

what else? Fulgrim is a banger!

And those underworld demons are a treat!

  4. That Big Boss looks perfect.

Hopefully that will cement the Ardboys as the rank & file of Iron Jaws, with Brutes and those weirdos looking special rather than common.

Now, if *only* we would get new Goregruntas. Or more specifically, new pigs besides the big piggy. The riders all look mighty fine, but gosh those boars... . Especially now that the magnificent super-pig was teased.

  5. I think whatever they do, they should do it with more courage.

I'm fine with shelving Bonesplitters & making Ironjaws & Kruleboys their own thing (Brutal but Kunnin' vs Kunnin' but Brutal).

But I'd also be fine with an actual "Orruks Warclans" book that has *no* split anymore but rather the warlord decides the direction the army goes (again brutal but... etc. see above). So the warlord lets you chose a set of special rules that are then your army rules but you can actually mix and match your dudes as you see fit. That could leave some Bonesplitters in the book, albeit without a proper general. So no third army rules option.

Personally I'd like them to take route number 2, but given how different Kruleboyz and Ironjaws look, I expect it to be route number one.

  6. I'd expect kits at the higher end of what's possible for the simple reason that there is an almost gigantic gap between how FEC are described (to behave etc.) and how they look on the field. They have a very strong identity but it doesn't show at all.

Unlike in instances where kits are just old, updating the range is imo a necessity to sell FEC as a complete package. So 8 kits sounds good to me. They are also heavily featured in Harbingers so I expect their release to rival Cities to some degree.

5 kits... pretty sure one of them is the new Ardboyz kit. I would gamble on it.

Looks like Warclans kits are back on the menu (ard)boyz !

I'll lose my sh*t if Its get new ardboys. Reason for me to not get Iron Jaws so far... .

  8. I think the magic phase of AoS has much more to it than the PSI Phase of 40k ever had (slight exaggeration).
But as the AoS team doubles down on magic, I don't see that go away.

But I would very much like for foot heroes to join units. That's one of the better aspects of 10th edition so far.

The ability to craft meaningful stories is one of AOS’ strength. It’s why their Tale of 4 Warlords segments are better than 40K’s. The writers just have to avoid the trap of emulating the latter to draw customers to the former and all will be well.

To be fair to the Idoneth, they’re the only soul-telling faction that actually have a legit reason for stealing souls (stormcasts don’t count, since Sigmar technically robbed whole civilizations of the people who could’ve saved them). As for them being on the outs with the rest of the “alliance,” that’s true for every faction involved.
Morathi’s pissed off Sigmar (and parts of her own faction) following Broken Realms, while Teclis scarred the Idoneth for eternity and no one knows what Malerions up to.

Meanwhile Allariele is angry cause Greywater Fastness is turning a part of her realm into the new Nuln, and who knows where that’ll lead. The Dawi are viewed as either money hungry opportunists, or steadfast allies with no wiggle room, but hopefully Gotrek and Grombrindal will sort out the internal and external issues. Finally the Stormcast are being stretched so thin that the flaws inherent in their creation are starting to outweigh their positives, leading them to become more of a defensive asset then an offensive one (which brings about a whole new mess of issues).
In short, if at least half of the order factions are not angry with you, then you’re doing something wrong.

All true - but I'm happy that "Order" is structured that way. I love how good intentions and horrible failures are dancing a tango for two here.

  10. I took an AoS break to play & build some 40k, and I have to admit, that while 40k makes me build an army (and that’s it), AoS makes me want to tell stories. New CoS. The Blacktalons. Converting the special lady to a marshall on „lion headed gryphon“, that rumored troll, a giant… . The game has a lot going for it and feels very fresh.

A named Dark Elf and Dwarf character in Cities would go a long way towards making those subfactions feel like real parts of the army. Using Harbingers for that would be a great idea, like with the Ven Densts in Broken Realms.

Exactly my idea. I have the Ulfenkarn dudes waiting for the new Cities Stuff & will certainly use some of them as heroes in my army. But neither of those are from the dark elf or dwarf factions that are still in the book. And while I can always field the wood elf lady (she's an outcast after all) I'd be even more excited for some "City elves" or "city dwarves".
I can acknowledge that the cities needed a good human base first. So if the corsair types get their makeover with AoS 4.0 (or the dwarves) I'm fine.
Really, the only thing that may not happen is that the elves & dwarves faction(s) get squatted. I love CoS precisely for other races being present. Heck, I'd be down for mixed races regiments as well. Anything that keeps the flavor of a melting pot of cultures, races and ideas.

I'd like to see an AoS take on classic Dawis, a bit how the Votann are a modern take on classic Squats. I'm a human enjoyer, but I do love my short kings. However, if classic dwarfs are to be redone, I hope it's after FS and KO get something to push their range beyond what they are now. And I'm talking about real units and beefy kits, not another foot hero. After KO and FS get the fleshing out and range expansion they deserve, and after Chaos Dwarfs make their return in AoS, will I be happy with another dwarf faction that's more classic in appearance.

In the meanwhile, the remaining Dwarfs from WFB can hang out in CoS. They are fairly good kits that hold up very well today (I had a blast assembling my gyrocopter) and they blend in super well with both SCE and the new freeguild humans. I have 0 problems with them remaining long term.

I would love for a unit of dwarves or two to expand on the cities book next time around. Same goes for elves. Both of those could be closer to classical fantasy - but with a cities twist.

He is mentioned with many names in the White Dwarf number 477 from June 2022, one of them being Ushoran the Handsome. Cannot find now the exact text.

Shame. I liked the Idea of Kurnoth coming back sooner rather than later.

But maybe there still is something there. His Shard stalk Ghoul Mere, I think. So maybe… .

  14. Was the Summer King mentioned somewhere in more detail?

Because when I read „Summer King“ & empty settlements on the Hammerhaml Gyhra side, *and* reminded myself that woodelves will not be in the new army book… . I instantly thought of the return of Kurnoth.
