Which has been the biggest retcon so far?

Changing the entire Necron Lore from one edition to the next is up there. They went from mindless machines lead by the remnants of space gods to scheming space Egyptians enslaving the remnants of their space gods.

So the Fyreslayers will be the first line of defense of the Great Parch. Noice, time for the range expansion. Unless the Skaven are going to use ships.

And we all know what that means.

    The release of …

The Flamewrought Extermizerker, another foot hero!!

    Rejoice, rejoice!

If "Health now per unit, not per model." then we can forget about putting heroes in the unit, isn't it?

Not necessarily. The hero could just be ignored as long as their unit still exists.

You'd just ignore the heroes health until the unit gets wiped. 40k kinda does the same, where your hero's save and toughness doesn't matter if there are enough wounds to wipe them and their unit.

Their purpose also doesn't match their aesthetic. They're supposed to remind the SC of their humanity, but they just look like monks draped in bible passages. They should be holding trinkets, pets, or themselves be recognizable elements of the SC's life. Like what if one of the memorians was just their kid? It would be more impactful and drive home the cost of their affliction.

That’s what I‘ll do. Great idea.

  5. I like the new SCE dudes. They are kinda overblown, but I like to think of SCE as symbols as much as Sigmars drop bombs.
So all that iconography, that symbolism made to inspire downtrodden order guys seems fitting - and under that aspect I like them quite a bit.

  6. After letting the whole thing settle for a bit, my personal conclusion is that the squatting (or THE SQUATTENING!!) is bad for (individual) players and good for the game.

At first glance the BoC & BS situation seems harsh, but only if you see updates as an actual option. If in reality there was never an option for new kits for both ranges, I‘d rather see them moved out of the tournament space rather than in a strangely undead state of play. Sucks for everyone who invested in them, much less so for everyone who didn’t.

Same goes for stormcast (although I think many of the units soon gone will just be played as something else). Personal difference is that unlike with BoC and BS i do own a not so small amount of Sacrosanct units. And a few of the heroes. But if I‘m being honest… most of them didn’t see play anyway, the last couple of months. So here also not much did really change. But again I feel the „individual pain and anger“.

Anyway. I believe they will cull units going forward, rightfully so, and they probably will only be semi upfront about it, much less rightfully so. So there is that. For the state of the game the culling is needed. For us players… well, depends, I guess.

I really hope 4th isn’t changing things to the point we need Indexes. Having rulesets thrown out after two editions of 40K has gotten old really quickly.

And yet it seems it was the right choice for 40k. Game is much better than that end of 9th ******.

  8. I think we can all agree that *new* named characters won't get killed off just yet.
I'm all for killing them off at certain points in time and their models becoming generic versions of themselves, but basically within the same release cycle? Never gonna happen. They first have to actually *do* something in the world, the living story, so to speak.

im open to other options to send feedback to gw.

im not joking,i usually send feedback to the faq aos team because it is where they tell us to send it in their facebook when someone send one feedback.

but if we have any better channel i would be happy to know

Feedback is good, solutions in general are not. Even if they'd be good, they would get drowned besides others that would not be.

The best feedback one can probably give is detailed, specific and shows all the problems with a unit or a combination of units.
Even specifics, like, how points drops of X would enable a specific build or a specific type of build etc. can be super valuable.

That way the devs get all the information they need in an understandable way and can do their work.

If you send them some feedback on why a unit isn't good, probably without specifics and then add tons of solutions (maybe even across multiple emails) you're just very likely to get ignored. Not out of malice, but because your feedback would have to be deciphered - and usually there is no time for that.

  10. I think I'll just paint "all of the above". A battlemage (probably one of the two from cursed city), some allies, those two father & daughter witch hunters... and vary it a bit.

Thanks for all the advice so far! That gives me some confidence to proceed.

Edit: I wanted to field 10 knights for
better synergy with the marshal & to have a solid/grindy hammer, but cavaliers have only 1“ range, so… maybe 2x5 are the way to go.

  11. Nice to hear. Right now it seems I have just about 170 points left.

Cities humans were more expensive than I thought. But that’s not a bad thing necessarily, less models to spend a lot of time on sounds good.

    List so far consists of:

    - A Mashall on foot

    - A warforger

    - A marshal on horseback

    - The ogre dude

    - 2x 10 steelhelms

    - 20 or 2x10 Fusiliers

    - 10 knights

    - 10 wildcorps hunters

    - 1 cannon

    - command squad

with 170 points left I could add another 10 fusiliers or a command squad, but some more magic sounds good as well. Just makes those points really awkward.

I‘ve also considered dropping 5 knights but haven’t given it more thoughts than that.

  12. I feel like I need to look up the current season as well. Last time I played that crazy magic was not a thing xD.

Anyway, I think I'll start with what I want to paint and go from there.

My core (from what I own and like so far) will be the FoMo box, a command squad & some fusiliers. I'll probably get the marshal on horseback as well.

Two units I really like (to paint and play with) but am pretty sure are not that good are the dude with the ogre and the cannon. Any tips on making those two work?

  13. Okay, folks... after a little AoS hiatus (I had to finish some Votann), I'm back on track and got myself some of the new Cities stuff. I must say, I'm a bit overwhelmed =D.
Can one of you nice folks give me a compact (really doesn't have to be long or detailed) overview of the new book and the new units? Just a few sentences really.
It's not a diehard project for me (I'd rather build and paint a cool city with some allies), but as of right now, I have only a general understanding of how the new version of the cities works. I'm definitely going for a human core, but am not above some Kharadron allies or something like that.

Bonus question, how good is the poster child of the cities, Hammerhall Asqua?

Not sure if it is the same design team but Warcry is pretty much always the best sculpts at GW since launch. A quick overview of just a few favourites:

Even the ones that are not my favourites are amazingly sculpted and posed but are just not my favourite design concepts.

True, they are really pushing the envelope with some.
