  1. It's funny that we've had all those different factions and I like quite a few of them, but it's with 3.0, the rumors we've heard so far and the rise of destruction that I instantly feel more at home. It just gives the whole setting that slight vibe of the old world. Cool Orcs sorry Orruks ;), that actually have a miniature range, were really missing. The Kruelboys, despite the stupid name, might be one of the most important armies of the whole setting.

Now they only need to get SCE right and give the CoS some new units. Or just sculpts. Orcs and humans. The base line of Warhammeresque fantasy.

I believe they will, just not this time

This time we got a complete revamp of all chambers released before.

I'm so glad to hear that. They need it & they're far more interesting than Marines. They deserve better.

What would be stopping you from doing it now?

Nothing. But my answer was just too short to give you the proper context. So here it is:

My local gaming store plays with the „standard size“ tables and those tables are in need of a refresh. So when we heard the sizes might change we decided to get new tables - or at least help the store guys build & paint them, once it‘s clear what the „new normal“ would be.

Now my office is too small to comfortably fit a bigger table but I have hopes that a smaller one could fit.

Now, could I have done that before? Absolutely. But I like to play on the same size my gaming store has & and so I use the dining table as a base - which works, but doesn’t really make my wife happy.

So bottom line is: Smaller official table sizes might be just perfect for my specific case :D

In the end this has - in my case - nothing to do with how the games play out on smaller tables but rather the context of my living space.

Totally understand. You end up playing how everybody plays. Until I’ve seen full rules I’m not making a judgement but I think it will be fine. Plus new size makes it easier to play in my dining room table at home

I have very high hopes of fitting the smaller size in my office gaming room!

  5. The Chaos Dwarfs actually represent if anything Order way more than Destruction - one could even argue more than Chaos.

The worst side of Order, but Order.

Therefore, I think they'll stay with Chaos. And their lore will be tinkered around the Age of Chaos and how they found survival in Chaos (maybe Hashtut really is a Chaos Godbeast) and over time became cruel and twisted.

Dominion Box looks dope. Like... *really* dope. I didn't see anything I didn't like or love. It will be a blast to collect, paint and play with. Unless 3.0 got garbage rules =D

I don’t understand this idea that there needs to be the same amount of Dwarf armies as there are Elf armies. The idea that it’s unfairly weighted towards Elf players just doesn’t work, because ‘elf players’ aren’t really one group. New Lumineth models mean as much to Idoneth players as they do to Kharadron players, for example. I don’t see any merit in lumping all elves together and all dwarfs together and expecting parity between them, it’s only going to lead to arguments and disappointment.

I think what the dwoff players really want to say is, that they'd like the gold treatment of aelves.

Not a soup book. But rather multiple different factions, en par with what the aelves got. Now, one could argue, that with 2 Duardin factions and 3 Aelves factions released (Sylvaneth are but a faint glance of aelves, if we're being honest), there is some parity - if not in model range, then at least in army count. But you know them stunties. Always muttering stuff into their beards... .

On a more serious note, aelves just got more models so far. And it's ofc about perception & our light lords sure got some headlines & covers (and the Idoneth also got their fair share of stuff - but so did Kharadron). But, but all of that would ofc change in a heartbeat with the next big army release. And if I'm being honest... I see the reimagining of classic dwarves (lumineth style) happening much sooner than dark aelves.

So in the end it has nothing to do with the amount of different Duardin or Aelf armies... but with the attention they get from development.

    ---

On the note of Kruel Boyz... if we were going by the three faces, they should be their own thing next to the Orruk Warclans & the Gloomspite Gitz. But maybe the three tribes actually get to form the next "Big Waaaagh" or something like that.

I'm fine with either, but given how often Whitefang was pinged in this thread over the imminent reveal of the whatever they'll be called boyz... well I'd troll us quite a bit. So my guess is, they're their own faction, can be taken in the superwaaaagh and Whitefang is trolling us for a couple of days because we kinda deserve it.

So as the person most impacted by this, has it changed your buying habits?  as in actually. Money in your bank and not spending it on GW.  Be good to get an actual opinion from an affected party.

Cant speak for everyone obviously but most people seeming to think GW acted badly are still posting in other threads about GW games and what armies/units to buy for gaming.  So while GW have acted very poorly, it has (as is often the case) made little difference to the bottom line.

    This very instance - no!

I actually got a box from my trusted dealer. I've known the guy for 20 years, we play boardgames together, if he gets it, I get it.

But overall, I buy less GW stuff than I used to. That has to do with me getting older, becoming a dad etc. But also with a felt (so very subjective) lack of connection that I used to have with GW, when I was in my teens & student days. Communication is different. Now I wouldn't argue that it might just be me, who has changed & GW being the same as always, but still. Something has changed & quelled my hype. If I had to pinpoint it, it started in the "dark days of Kirby" - and I actually like AoS & can forgive the death of the world that was. Heck, I even see how they're trying to fix it and still keep the good of AoS. So I bear no grudges with their game developers. Just their communications & marketing is not my cup of tea.

P.S. I'm also not as fast as I used to be and feel my back sometimes, when I do computer work all day. ;)

  8. I totally agree with you on the vampire lords @Aren73.

Back in the day, you could customize your vampires according to the clan they were from. Being Carstein meant something. Same for the others. Now we get the special characters that in deed feel special, but the "generic Vampire lord" is a dude as bland as any other. There is just no flavor in them. The feel... lifeless. But not in a good way.

But yeah, stormcast range is already too big, and it's definitely a problem.  I don't collect non-undead factions, but while most armies in the game are still at least a little tempting (Idoneth in particular are cool enough that I still might be tempted into starting an army of them if they ever fix their internal balance problems), I wouldn't touch Stormcast with a 10 foot pole.  Not because of the models, concept, or play style, just because I wouldn't know where to start, and I wouldn't feel confident that whatever I did start with would still be a functional army 5 years down the line.

I have the feeling GW understood just that & is about to give them a "soft reboot". Slightly different optics, a more condensed choice of _new_ miniatures. Then, either rework the old ones or let them fade out.

The Primaris comparison may not be spot on, but it's not completely off either, I think.

There are a lot of factions that need updating more than SCE, but I guess the real lesson is always play the posterboys if you want nice things from GW.

I don't even dispute that but rather say, that for poster boys they were critically underserved for the last couple of years. They got a lot upfront, but with the beginning for AoS 2 that stopped.

And the models didn't age well tbh.

  11. The new Stormcasts were bitterly needed & I for one am super glad they're coming and looking like they do.

The whole range - while it had its highlights - looks terribly dated. The new ones on the other hand range from solid to astonishing. More heads without helmets and they'll be really cool.

    ...

Personally I'm a tad mad they didn't at least show something (meaningful) of the destruction faction. I know it'll probably be shown in one of those upcoming may previews, but still.

I suspect they will, as the GAs are a great shorthand for how different factions fit into the world overall, and are useful to new and old players alike for that reason.

That being said, they certainly could do away with them without putting the game itself in peril, but it would likely be a contentious decision on their part.

I was thinking of something along the lines of "realm alliances" & "realm adversaries". but that really might be too complicated.

A snake is basically a legless lizard when you think about it and Mortathi leads the snake ladies.. And who leads the lizardMEN? Mama and PAPA reptile confirmed.

Seraphon are all about stars, so i think Morathi/Kroak are confirmed star crossed lovers.

Now THAT is a rumor I can rally behind.

I'm hoping this will be a blessing in disguise  - give him a much better warscroll for his much better model, but have him cost 600+ points like the other god models so he becomes much more of an investment to take.

    That's my guess as well.

Absolute power & power within a certain "point range" are two different animals. Make him a good and just as costly. Problem solved (maybe >.< ).

  15. Ok, so having given it a first read-through, I can say that it's not as bad as people make it to be, but also that I'm clearly not the target audience of this type of storytelling.

Which, to be fair, is in line with most of GW's storytelling.

As for "Nagash gets nothing done" (and I too get that vibe - at least partially, again, not a fan of the way the stories are told), keep in mind that we're talking about an ongoing narrative (with a strong sense of featuring whoever needs to be on top right now). If in two story arcs Nagash has his grand return and reveals that Teils actually did exactly what he, Nagash needed him to do and starts corrupting the rune constellation thingy (+ bonus course of death for good ol' Teclis), it would totally be in line with what was done here & and the way GWW tends to tell stories. .
