A named Dark Elf and Dwarf character in Cities would go a long way towards making those subfactions feel like real parts of the army. Using Harbingers for that would be a great idea, like with the Ven Densts in Broken Realms.

Exactly my idea. I have the Ulfenkarn dudes waiting for the new Cities Stuff & will certainly use some of them as heroes in my army. But neither of those are from the dark elf or dwarf factions that are still in the book. And while I can always field the wood elf lady (she's an outcast after all) I'd be even more excited for some "City elves" or "city dwarves".
I can acknowledge that the cities needed a good human base first. So if the corsair types get their makeover with AoS 4.0 (or the dwarves) I'm fine.
Really, the only thing that may not happen is that the elves & dwarves faction(s) get squatted. I love CoS precisely for other races being present. Heck, I'd be down for mixed races regiments as well. Anything that keeps the flavor of a melting pot of cultures, races and ideas.

I'd like to see an AoS take on classic Dawis, a bit how the Votann are a modern take on classic Squats. I'm a human enjoyer, but I do love my short kings. However, if classic dwarfs are to be redone, I hope it's after FS and KO get something to push their range beyond what they are now. And I'm talking about real units and beefy kits, not another foot hero. After KO and FS get the fleshing out and range expansion they deserve, and after Chaos Dwarfs make their return in AoS, will I be happy with another dwarf faction that's more classic in appearance.

In the meanwhile, the remaining Dwarfs from WFB can hang out in CoS. They are fairly good kits that hold up very well today (I had a blast assembling my gyrocopter) and they blend in super well with both SCE and the new freeguild humans. I have 0 problems with them remaining long term.

I would love for a unit of dwarves or two to expand on the cities book next time around. Same goes for elves. Both of those could be closer to classical fantasy - but with a cities twist.

He is mentioned with many names in the White Dwarf number 477 from June 2022, one of them being Ushoran the Handsome. Cannot find now the exact text.

Shame. I liked the Idea of Kurnoth coming back sooner rather than later.

But maybe there still is something there. His Shard stalk Ghoul Mere, I think. So maybe… .

  4. Was the Summer King mentioned somewhere in more detail?

Because when I read „Summer King“ & empty settlements on the Hammerhaml Gyhra side, *and* reminded myself that woodelves will not be in the new army book… . I instantly thought of the return of Kurnoth.

  5. I‘m baffled, that the thunderer rifles are still on 4+ wound >.<

Also, I agree on both the Arkanauts & some sort of Defense on the balloners. Although I think I‘d prefer 3+ to 3 wounds, from a lore perspective. They aren‘t paladin size.

  6. I‘d have no problem losing to certain armies, if a hybrid build was „good enough“.
My vision is that of an all flying KO force that doesn’t just shoot but raid and board stuff, too.
So something like an Ironclad, a Frigate, a Gunhauler and some dudes. I have high hopes for the new and improved Skywardens and would love for Riggers to be small utility units.
    Admiral.
    Another Char or two.
    Thunderers.
    1-2x Arkanauts.
    3 Rigger.
    6 Wardens.
    ironclad.
    frigate.
    gunhauler.

Everything fits into or on a ship, hopefully enough dudes to actually play AoS, and all in all a colourful range of models.

  7. Oh-kay! That was good! Really good even.

Never thought I‘d consider playing Seraphon, but here we are. Really well done!

Warcry Box is a winner, too. They really don’t hold back there.

Somewhat liked the Killteam stuff, too.

Rest was okay, but who cares with such a show of AoS force.

I think the curent meta is the healthiest we have ever had, thanks to bounty hunters (no horror spam, no zombie spam etc...).

But it's not an infantry meta at all, that's for sure.

So the current GHB is a failure as far as flavor and theme, but it's a success in terms of balance and pleasure at the table.

I think my gripes with it come down to their inability to just make „normal“ units work.

The meta works to reign in the biggest tarpits and such, but the quasi removal of the simple infantry is an overwhelming main- or side effect.

That’s the direction I’m heading in. I love AOS but getting older I’d rather have smaller games. The core Warcry rules getting published is ace as that’s something to play with as I love the IP.

I’m pretty sure it’s a tweaked version as they mentioned that last year. That could be very different now with where the world is now and how they think people will get it. It’s possible they will try something new but I’m doubtful. Ideal scenario in my head is them doing a range of models at a slightly smaller scale and doing them as blocks rather than individual models (I used to hate the “wound” markers after the fighting ranks 🤣). That could be cool and different enough for people to pick it up.

I‘ve become a big fan of 1000 point games for the same reason. Smaller, faster, just as much fun. Especially if all players are of the same spirit - in our case, we want to have fun, tell stories through our games and be mildly competitive while doing so.

So. What I would love, is something akin to the feeling I had with my first orcs & goblins or empire army.
Small battle bands, that just looked awesome - even though the game definitely had its problem.

  10. Kruleboys will need some point drops, but that will be band aids.

As of now they just throw too many dice to maybe get some effects. A lot of streamlining is needed. Maybe even a 3.1. battle tome.

But all in all they’re quite fixable, although they might need a second wave for that.

Destruction has an identity problem, as its a very narrow focus, and tends to pigeonhole armies into Orruk clones (ie brutish rampaging forces of destruction). That's an issue that's been discussed here in depth before. The only easy design space I see left for destruction that gives a portrayal vastly different than brutish, smashy humanoids is a devouring swarm type army ala-tyrranids. Something like a horde of mindless locusts that devour everything around them, with no thought of morality.

With the rumored 40K 10th edition starter box supposedly being Tyrranids vs. Blood Angels, I would love to see a tyrranid line revamp that crossed the 40K/AoS barrier, similar to how chaos demons work.  Hordes of the "Silent ones" awaken, answering some primordial urge (like cicadas) and swarm up from below ground, devouring all that's in their path. New Hormagaunts and Carnifexes, and a pile of other new bugs to terrify the mortal realms. Doesn't even have to be tyrranid related, but if I was GW, I'd link the two lines and promote my unique IP for increased exposure and sales.

    How's that for a Rumor? 🤪

To be fair, they designed themselves into a corner, when the made ogors and SoB Orc clones (in charakter).

Nothing would have stopped them to put emphasis on let’s say, how clever and reasonable ogors actually were if they wouldn’t be overwhelmed by streaks of intense hunger. There was room for nuance.
Somewhat civilised brutes with streaks of ravaging hunger.

  12. I think "classic monsters" from vampire adjacent lore & stories are a good, almost perfect way to give the soul blight their own twist while keeping the classical vibes. Gives GW a possible way of expanding the army without much hassle.

Only the Grave Guard and Black Knights need new models (if I'm not mistaken), so any form of possible expansion (apart from character models ;) ) could be a good way forward. Ofc vampire infantry is still on the table.
