Edit: I joke but qith Minimal Effort that would make a great Khalida

Opens up an entire universe of Khemri Models + Vampires for Nulahmia imo.

That Bone Dragon must be converted I'm afraid. But that has time.

Not updating the old core troops and focusing on useless giant monsters seems like the exact same issue that caused the old TK refresh to flop.

You'd have thought GW would have learned from 9th ed 40k that you need to update the core troops of a faction first otherwise people aren't going to buy into it.

    My opinion exactly

There are fomo boxes, and then there are fml boxes.

I already have issues with boxes which have characters in what essentially is a miniature paywall. I’ve been pretty good to just wait the year out for any release where I didn’t want the infantry. But if that Dragon is tied down to those silly old Skeletons I think I might checkout from Old World.

How could we lose the Vampire counts kit but get these silly skellies back.

tbh, they could've sold the old VC skellies with additional Khemri Shield bits and be done with it. If they'd wanted they coul've added 10-20 resin khrmi heads to make those looks more like Khemri. This ist frustrating to say the least. Very low effort - They're really taking is for fools.

    This is not the way.

    And another one!
    Special about this PtG Game:
We used open war cards (AoS 1) - Short table edge to short table edge deployment. Objective 1 VP for every objective. Each player places 2.
Special Rule: At the end of turn 2 each player draws a sudden death card (to keep the game at the ~1.5h mark). At the end of each Battle round on a 4+ a Rouse is drawn.

    We never drew any Rouses.
    1K Game
My gf played my Seraphon (mixed in with her models):
    Coatl's Claw
1x Saurus Oldblood (Astrazur, Warden of the Sunspire Gate) (+1 Save, +1 Rend and +1 dmg vs Heros)
1x Starpriest (Suqtoik'atla) with heavenly frenzy (coalesced have no skink artefacts, what?)
    20x Saurus Warriors
    1x Aggradon Lancers
    1x Kroxigors

    My List:
    Misthavn - One Drop Battlaion
1x Marshal with Envoy (Thenray von Galdstrik)
    1x Sorceress (Ynradi Duskshimmer)
18x Black Ark Corsairs (Harrowing Squall Privateers, lead by Lotulan Keelfish)
18x Fusiliers (Zhufanec's Gunners, lead by Vera Zhufanec)
1x Drakespawn Knights (I used converted Sisters of the Thorn for these)
    1x Drakespawn Chariot

I went first and I went greedy!

I tried to test the Chariot + Knights MW combo. However my opponent rolled a 6 for the aggradon redeploy and I was stranded.
My shooting didn't do much killing one Aggradon.
She engaged my Corsairs on the Temple and my Drakespawn knights a fierce fight enrupted. She rolled hot with her bites dealing the maxumum of bite MWs each time (ouch!) Killing the Drakespawns (in my Case it's more like Stag-Spawns). The Corsairs stood firm, ignoring armour they killed two Saurus, 1 1/2 Korxigors. The Kroxigors killed 5 Corsairs in return and the Saurus slaughered around 8.
She came closer to the chariot with her aggradons, I redeployed it 6" inches. She failed her charge twice.

Next Battleround: I received priority forgot to retreat with my corsairs (RIP). Charged with my chariot dealing 2 MWs. Shot at the Kroxies and left one alive at 1 wound. I lost all corsairs (Lotulan Keelfish survived all attacks just to be snacked by 3 bite attacks XD) The chariot fell to the Aggradons. She dealt 1 wound to my sorceress and an additional 2 with bites.
She moved the last kroxi towards my objective and conquered it.

We drew our sudden death cards (so the opponent wouldn't know the condition). I drew "survive with at least 1 Model at the end of battle round 5 to win. She drew "you win if there are no enemies wholly within your territory at the end of turn 3".

Turn three: Me again. I withdrew my Sorceress moved back with my Fusiliers. Marshal Thenray just shot off the last Kroxigor. I unleashed a volley with rerolling to hit and +1 to hit and wound into the Aggradons and almost didn't kill the last one (I only dealt 6 damage).
One of our cats knocked over the Oldblood, killing him (house rule: If a cat knocks over a miniature it's dead)
She charged to sorceress again which rolles a brilliant 1 for redeploy. She killed off the sorceress, revealed her sudden death and won a major victory.

    Thoughs:
Drakespawn knights are potent! I misplayed them (kind of on purpose since I wanted to forcefully test the combo). they cost 140 points and are better in every way compared to 140 points Ironbreakers (which would need another hero tax to get their shieldwall).
The Chariot is okay. The 90 points are justified since it falls apart incredibly quickly.
Fusiliers: They just don't perform good enough to be worth 300 points imo (+90 points for the Marshal). One really has to bring a Warforger AND has to succeed at casting that spell to make them worth. I might test the next game without them or with a warforger.
Corsairs were solid as usual as was the Sorceress (who failed all but one cast in turn 1 XD the same goes for the skinkpriest)

Overall good game and we didn't lose our heroes in the post battle sequence (3 Corsairs died though, ouch)

I had an AI write a story based on the report, here's the (rather okay) result:

In the mystical realm of Azyr, where magic mingled with the echoes of ancient conflicts, a clash unfolded between the Cities of Sigmar, led by Marshal Thenray von Galdstrik, and the formidable Seraphon warriors commanded by the wily Saurus Oldblood, Astrazur.

The chosen battleground favored swift encounters, with forces positioned from one short edge to another. Destiny took a subtle hand, guiding the unfolding skirmish between the seasoned adversaries.

The Seraphon, under the banner of the Coatl's Claw, advanced with Saurus Oldblood, Starpriest Suqtoik'atla, Saurus Warriors, Aggradon Lancers, and Kroxigors. On the opposing side, the Cities of Sigmar fielded a diverse assembly—Marshal Thenray, Sorceress Ynradi Duskshimmer, Black Ark Corsairs, Fusiliers, Drakespawn Knights, and the Drakespawn Chariot Misthavn.

Marshal Thenray initiated the conflict with a bold move, attempting to test the mettle of the Drakespawn Chariot and Knights. However, the Seraphon's Oldblood executed a strategic redeployment, leaving the Drakespawn forces isolated.

The battleground echoed with the clashing of arms as Saurus warriors confronted the resilient Corsairs on a sacred Temple, and Kroxigors engaged in a primal dance with Drakespawn Knights. The skirmish unfolded with both sides seeking tactical advantages.

The Corsairs, led by Lotulan Keelfish, valiantly held their ground against the relentless Saurus onslaught, while Drakespawn Knights faced a fierce challenge from the Kroxigors. The Drakespawn Chariot, employing strategic finesse, deftly evaded Aggradons, surviving their failed charges.

In a decisive turn, the Cities of Sigmar strategically withdrew their Sorceress, orchestrating a delicate retreat for the Fusiliers. Marshal Thenray showcased his marksmanship, eliminating the last Kroxigor with precise aim. However, the Seraphon, unyielding in pursuit, eradicated the Sorceress, leaving the battlefield forever changed.

As the echoes of battle subsided, the battlefield stood witness to the ebb and flow of destiny. The clash between the Cities of Sigmar and the Seraphon, while not world-altering, held significance in the ongoing conflicts within the realm. Recognizing the shifting tides, the Cities of Sigmar chose to retreat, acknowledging the Seraphon's hard-fought victory on this particular skirmish ground.

I don't know which way you are arguing RAI to be, I could see it going either way. I personally  think the intent is that it improves the ward for them, but is hard to maintain.

If their intent was to specifically disallow units with bigger bases a much better way would be to say "Wounds characteristic of 7 or less", which achieves the same result. Notably the vargulf base (90 by 52) is also too big to benefit. It would be easy enough to extend that to include Vargulfs in a few ways either by having it be 8 or less wounds or just excluding monsters.

Edit: I re-read the rule: It’s intentional, that’s the only reason the range is that short :)

Varghulf works though (don‘t place him perpendicular to the unit)

I read that rule. If you measure between the closest model then the closest model to the left side of the big monster is different to the closest model to the right side of the big monster. I think it's waiting on an FAQ which unfortunately won't be out for ages.

    Edit: the rule is clear.

  7. Black armour should do.

you are running into the issue of too many desaturated cold colors. You are amplifing the issue with grey bases.

look at my avatar: It would not look as good with grey skin: There needs to be some contrast in color warmth. :)

Rule of thumb: Dark models need bright bases and vise versa. In your case it’s either bright or dark with a little bit of red/turquiose flowers that‘d do the trick.

Random idea time but if anyone is looking to start FEC and not interested in the old ghouls you can just use swords for old and halberds for the guard as there's no difference in weapon profiles.

I wonder If this was intentional for this exact reason?🤔

Still very tempted by the delusion but not ready to jump in just yet as too much other stuff.

Depends on how the arms are slotted i to the body.

Great to finally get some rules for our new models!

what do people think the base sizes will be of all the new models

we we know the guard are 25mm

what about the rest? I’m building my own version of all the hero’s and the knights so want to get base sizes right

The Knights look small so ordinary cavalry bases.

Varghulf on the base size between 75 oval and chariot oval

    40mm for the Abhorrant
