  1. Against OBR I'm thinking this:

    LCoSD (stormwinged)
    Drakesworn Templar
    Knight-Incantor

    Liberators 3x5
    9x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows

    Everblaze Comet

    1970/2000

Trying to maximize MW output on turn 1. Deepstrike the longstrikes behind to hit heros. Setup the incantor between the 2 drakes for maximum casting ability. Then hopefully get them in range to combined give -3 to casting (each drake and everblaze)

Or would it just be better to run Ordinator and 3 ballista to deepstrike and go for heros? Both options have rend 2, but the longstrikes can deal a good amount of mortal wounds, whereas ballistas just overwhelm with hits. (Ballista option also leaves points for a balewind vortex and up to 30 points of endless spells)

If everyone is broken, no one is. This would be fine. It's the up and down and releasing books that would get you laughed out of a homebrew discussion that is so aggravating.

I'm perfectly fine with each army having super strong powers and abilities. Its way better than everyone being mediocre together and one book (or 2-3) coming out to dominate the rest.

Adepticon will announce 40k 9th Ed which will be a soft edition (like aos 2) that allows existing codices to be used, but makes some core rule tweaks. The big summer release window will tie into 9th Ed 40k.

So there is no intent to do a new aos edition or anything like that this year. I suspect we will get pointy elves, then campaign books and hopefully a few more battleboxes with new battletomes.

My big hope  is if they do a 3rd edition of aos they work on a lot of the books first, then release a large portion at one time.  Don't make some "3.0 ready" when they clearly aren't. Like how Nighthaunt and Stormcast are 2.0 tomes but pale in comparison to even the less powerful ones that came later.

One thing to keep in mind is that so far (except for Blightwar) each battlebox has been accompanied by a new Battletome for both armies

Next box set is obviously Stormcast vs Stormcast then. :D

I kid, I could see Seraphon vs Nurgle though. They both really need updated books.

(Even though I secretly hope its Stormcast vs Legion of Grief and the LoG book rolls all the Nighthaunt stuff into it so its a real thought out faction)

Reading the Ossiarch book makes me wonder why our replenishment mechanics are so convoluted, and still the only Death faction that has to suffer this way.

OBR went back to heroes that just click their heels and get models back.

Still think we lack a true defensive/phalanx elite unit with shields or some other re-roll failed armor saves mechanic. 4+/6+ ethereal and deathless across the board is just not durable.

Ive been rolling with 15 man bladegheist units in order to have some stay alive to regen; but they waste their foot print quite badly, unae to get them all in melee range and giving up extra WoT attempts.

    Thoughts?

If you aren't gonna go for max discount I would just do 3 min sized units of BR. Less likely to all get one shotted considering they can spread out. Considering RotSH is a d3, I run a lot more min sized units. Getting 1 back hurts.

I actually beat a Bonereaper army today at 1k points. Got massacred turn 1 and most of 2. My 10 man GGR's got wiped turn 1, and my 6 unit of spirit hosts got destroyed by a 10 man mortek and a harvester. Could not make any saves the first 2 turns, like at all.  But then pulled it out. Mourngul is still my hero and I hope he drops in points more.

Monstrous Arcanum has been updated, but no changes to the Mourngul. Still 280pts unfortunately.

I don't think it'll get updated until the big faq in June. IIRC that's when it dropped last time. It seems to have been rolled into the gw model updates.

I can easily see it settle at 240 but considering they're doing everything in 10's and 20's it'll probably be 260 in June.

And why every faction need same number of armys?

40k have more marines in diferents colours than all xenos armys together and gw dont care.

Meanwhile we dont get new colours stormcast with new name and rules and call it new army im fine with grand aliances having diferent numbers of armys

To cater to the largest group of people. It makes sense business wise. I play mostly Death. My friend plays mostly Destruction. If they wanna sell plastic they need to throw the largest net possible.

Destruction needs a new Army, a real new Army. The Destruction players are the Ugly ducklings...

Been saying this more and more as everything gets consolidated. Order has 8 armies, Chaos 7, Death 3 and a half (since most of the stuff falls in Legions but is really 3 separate armies), and Destruction 3.  I assume Pointy Aelves are Order. So really this whole year should add 2 Death and 2 Destruction armies to even come close to some kind of parity.

Its kind of close to Ironjawz, but I want to see a big smashy destruction army. Like with dragons, and giants, and such.

super disappointing if all they get is a book and no new sculpts

Considering what they did to Skaven I wouldn't expect more than 1 model and the book. Maybe endless spells and terrain. But all the old armies seem to be stuck in finecast/metal and GW isn't gonna update them.

Considering how wacky they went with the new KO Battletome (Frigates battleline??) This is not that far-fetched of an idea.

It's legitimately what I expect from all battletomes heading forwards. Imagine Desolators or Concussors as battleline :D

EDIT: Considering FEC and Ogors IMAGINE DRAKESWORN TEMPLARS AS BATTLELINE!!!!

Hmm so yea after reading up on the wording of the movement rules for all phases and the fly keyword, it does indeed seem there is nothing stopping a player from doing the things mentioned. A unit without fly can never be within 3" of an enemy unit during any part of the move (not just ending 3" away) but FLY ignores enemy models entirely outside of ending 3" away.

Charges moves only states you need to end within 0,5" and the pile in just says you need to end up at least as close to the nearest model as you began. So as I understand it, say you start within 8" of an enemy, you move 8.1 clipping the front of the base of a model of the enemy unit and then go straight back, putting the drake down 3" away. So you effectively only moved 5" forward, but had enough move for a "bombing run".

Then when charging, you roll a 5, but then you just move 3,5" forward and then 1" back and sit at 0,5". At pile in you again just move 1" forward and 1" back at the same spot, doing damage (on a 2+) for the third time.

Is this all correctly understood? In that case I might reconsider the worth of that trait, but at the same time, I think there will be some groaning about the "gamey" nature of doing these janky moves. Anyone experienced problems with this?

Yes this is correct. Been doing it with Hexwraiths for a long time. You only have to move 1 millimeter over a base and can 100% fly over units.

@trolemon thanks for the listing! Some interesting data :) Also, OBR are from Nov 2019, not 2018.

I find it interesting how subjective feeling of an army having enough Warscrolls is. Factions with 15, which seems like GW-min for new factions, really feel "thin". In my personal opinion, the Gutbusters book feels just about right with the listed 23 Warscrolls. Meanwhile Slaanesh seems "thing" on Warscrolls again, while having 22 according to this list. Meanwhile, having roughly 20+ Warscrolls should make a faction feel more fleshed out I guess, which is why the lack of new kits for Fyreslayers, IDK, Daughters or KO feels like such a big issue right now.

Average kit age takes into account Morghast, Nagash, and Arkhan.  Those are much older.

Noted this in the GMG video (which I haven't finished watching yet.)

"Each Destiny Dice spent only allows you to replace a single dice roll. If you want to replace a 2D6 roll (such as a casting roll or charge roll) you must spend 2 Destiny Dice."

This seems like an unambiguous and fairly major nerf, because it prevents you from contributing one Destiny Dice to a casting roll and rolling the other one, which is broadly very useful but particularly good with Lords of Change.

While this seems like a big nerf, one of the arcanite artefacts is gonna generate so many destiny dice. "Secret Keeper" I believe it's called. Pick a melee weapon, whenever you roll an unmodified 6 to hit, roll a dice and add it to your destiny pool.

Another of the glaring issues with our book; the VL beats the KoSoES hands down for its intended role.

This was a known problem since day 1. Don't worry so much, after the Seraphon update I foresee NH and the other books that lagged behind to get updated. We have no "household" variant like all the other books (SC, DOK, IDK, etc). And with the new KO book making each city getting different units allowed as battleline opens up a lot of options. Imagine a NH army with Bladegheist Revenants as battleline :D

Do you think that a list with celestant prime and celestant on stardrake is good ?

They are not considered competitive for the points they cost. But they are awesome models to see all painted up.

Competitive would start with a Lord Relictor for teleporting purposes, and a max unit of Vanguard Raptors with Longstrikes.

    3rd update! https://imgur.com/a/zdDQQ8J

Major changes since the last update:

    • Shock and Awe updated
    • Knight-Vexillor updated
    • Lord-Relictor now has the TOTEM keyword
    • Prayers updated
    • Treasured Standards updated
    • Mystic Lights updated
    • Celestial Staves updated
    • More mount trait updates
    • Lord-Veritant can now dispel, and has +3 to dispel an endless spell near a gryph hound
    • Lord of the Host is now a command ability known by every Lord-Celestant
      • "Once per turn, if this model is your general, you can use this command ability at the start of the hero phase. Until the start of your next hero phase, add 1 to save rolls for friendly STORMCAST ETERNAL units while they are wholly within 18" of this model."
    • Lord-Celestant on Dracoths command ability has been changed to Shield Wall
      • "You can use this command ability at the start of the movement phase. If you do, pick any number of friendly STORMCAST ETERNAL units wholly within 18" of this model. Until the start of your next movement phase, the picked units cannot run or declare a charge, but they can re-roll save rolls of 1. If a unit already has an ability or effect that allows them to re-roll save rolls of 1, they can instead re-roll all save rolls."
    • Lord-Celestant on Dracoth has a new ability:
      • If this model is your general and on the battlefield at the start of your hero phase, gain 1 additional command point.
    • New named character: Lord Victrian Cyrocco, Lord-Celestant of the Royal Victrian Chamber of the Tempest Lords
    • Small point tweaks (Judicators, Gryph-Hounds, Dracolines, Castigators, Lord Celestant on Dracoth)

Let me know what you think!

I think keeping Shock and Awe as it is would be the better road. Then give SCE a few more way to setup units. They should have a spell that teleports, since everyone else seems to have one now.

I love the mount trait for Stardrakes that makes it always be 0 for the table. Maybe they should also be able to redeploy at will. I mean 500 is a lot of points for what it currently does. Giving it the every turn Shock and Awe is fitting and competitive.

  17. I sure wish Nighthaunt had access to spells like the Parchment Curse. Cast on 8, on a 3+ a unit takes d3 mortals and you lower its bravery by that much FOR THE REST OF THE BATTLE! Why does Tzeentch have this but not the army of frights????

Our book just came out at the wrong time. Going over the Stormcast book, they have the same problem. We are the backlash to the endless conga lining of units. So all our stuff is "wholly within" and they weren't really sure of the distances yet. Katakros and the newer wholly within stuff is way more lenient but still curbs conga lines a bit.

I wouldn't imagine it will be long for Nighthaunt to get another update.  Nighthaunt has had a fairly steady stream of support and Lady Olyinder has been treated much better than most new characters in AOS.  Hopefully the next update addresses the various problems with the army.

I could legit see them getting and update this year. Right after Seraphon, IDK, DoK, and Nurgle. Alongside another Stormcast book. Time to really put everyone into a 2.0 book.

I feel like you'll hit diminishing returns pretty quick mind, LoC are hardly combat or shooting powerhouses, and you can't cast the same spell twice (plus they are summoned after the hero phase.)

Of course the new book may feature enough good spells or other supplementary rules to juice them up.

It says Kairic Acolytes are wizards as long as they have 9 or more models. And they can all cast Gestalt Sorcery on themselves.  This kinda juice is gonna be big. I assume they go up to 120 or 140 points.
