So what's the predictions for this afternoons article?

I'm really hoping for broken realms and blood and pain to be announced along with a preview for next Saturday.

I'm fully prepared for bloodbowl, which to be fair is also pretty cool.

I fully expect some kind of Death reveal. It is Dia de Muertos (Day of the dead) today. We've had tons of semi-death related rumor images. GW has to have been backed up on armies due to the lockdowns. We've gotten new stuff for Chaos, Destruction and Order this year. It's time for Death. Considering Death is legitimately the smallest alliance.

Maybe it even grows by a couple inches each turn, too. So it starts at 6" and ends at 14".

I originally had an idea like this for our terrain piece. Like the herd stone, it grows every turn. Starts at 12" and goes up 6" each turn. The negative to bravery is equal to the current battle round. Maybe broken realms will get us Nighthaunt terrain. We definitely don't need more models. :D

So now, that we have seen a glimpse of the Broken Realms Morathi content, what does everyone think the Lumineth are going to get when it's their turn?

As our Battletome is still fresh, I guess not (m)any warscroll updates as some of the other factions. But a new hero with their own warscroll battalion seems to be what's in line for most of the factions. What is likely for us in that case? An extension of the Teclian side with another Mage? A Loremaster or even more melee focused hero (with a mount maybe?). A glimpse into a new Temple, or the Tyrionic side? Although those probably would take more than one new hero model.

Or because our range is small, and they've hinted at so many new things, can we expect more models? A full fledged new Temple for example (3 to 4 models)?

Anyway, exciting times for AoS. If this goes well, it looks like they fix some under performing warscrolls and obvious issues for many factions.

Definitely gonna see 3-4 new battalions. A lot of the books this year seem to be very light on battalions. (LRL, KO, Seraphon really only having 4 based on army choice, Ogors sames thing).

  4. Well with the Morathi book confirming armies can get new warscrolls, battalions and more importantly ALLEGIANCE ABILITIES :D what are we hoping for mostly my fellow spooky boys?

I want one of the allegiances to wreck bravery. Like a ability, spell, trait, and artefact that all attack/lower bravery.

And one that gives the entire army frightful touch (with multiple instances triggering separately like one spirit hosts). Though for balance reasons that would have to probably be a battalion.

It's curious there are no Slaanesh rules in this book, considering Shadow and Pain comes with a Slaanesh hero - in PA, the formula was always that a faction got new rules if it had a model in the relevant boxset.

Doesn't that set come out in December? Stands to reason the next book could come out in December and have Slaanesh in it.

Shooting as Nighthaunt's Achille's heel? I get that our little heroes can be picked off pretty easily, but I've always viewed and played Nighthaunt as a shooting counter. I haven't played recently so I've got no experience against LRL or KO with their points changes, but I've always run over any shooting focused list I've played. The movement/ethereal save/deploy off the board is really a great counter.

Mortal wound protection, dealing mortal wounds, magic, elite combat armies, and armies that just don't die (or come back a la LoN) are much more troublesome for me.

If you can, try coming up against a competent KO, Seraphon, or Tzeentch player. They will take out 3-4 of your hero's before you can even move. It's very rough.

I would love our lore to influence our abilities more. In this case, army-wide Frightful Touch makes sense, and leaving it on a 6 and stopping the attack sequence would be a fair tradeoff for the entire army being able to do it. Suddenly the NH meta becomes numbers of attacks, so our horde units would have more relevance and heroes like KoSoES become much more important.

But I don't see Spirit Hosts being reduced much if at all. All you have to do is pair a unit of these at 6 or higher with a re-roll 1's mechanic, like a Spirit Torment or a All-Out Attack CA, and they will do surprising unmitigated damage.

In fact, I just participated in a friend's startup YouTube channel where we played a quick test game of 1k, and I brought all mortal wound generators. I erased his offensive line and ended up winning the game. It wasn't a meta match up, but it does show how some interactions with Nighthaunt are continuously overlooked, but very strong nonetheless. Once it's ready I'll link it here.

The problem with this is our army is getting hard countered from all directions. Shooting was our achille's heel before it even existed and now multiple armies are great at it. Multiple armies are also now coming out with a bunch of mortal wound protection. Lowering points are just a stopgap measure. I want them lowered to see if it can make them competitive against the meta. If it doesn't work then the new book is needed asap.

  8. So lets theorize about our future here. I don't foresee warscroll rewrites until we get a new tome. But I can see Nighthaunt get "households" in one of these Broken Realms books. And I would love to see at least two of them allow different things to be battleline.

    Possibly:

Dreadscythe Harridans in one that also gives more ways to lower bravery.

Bladegheist Revenants in one that increases movement speed or charge bonuses.

And this might be crazy, but Glaivewraith Stalkers in one. They currently have no real role in the army. They are outclassed by every other unit and are really only there if you have 60 points left over.

Aside from that, in the December big faq I see Spirit Hosts going down to 100. When you look at where the game is now vs when NH were released, there are so many things that deal mortal wound son 6's. HGB do 2 and continue with the attack, LRL bowmen do them at 36-42" range and can potentially do them on 5's. That couple with the unit size of 3 they almost never contest objectives.

I also see Hexwraiths going down another 10. Reikenor can go down 10-20. Mourngul goes down to 240-250.

Far as I know the only way to remove behemoth from a unit is thunder lizard stegadons becoming battleline. So I'm 99% sure this is a warscroll builder bug. A very odd one at that too.

That's what I figured as well. Its odd because if you go to the builder and just put skinks in your army it goes into negative behemoths. Wanted to make sure before I bought a whole bunch of dinos.

  10. I was fiddling around with the warscroll builder and I'm trying to figure this out. If I add 2 Oldblood on Carnosaur and 3 bastiladon to a list it says I have too many behemoths. But then when I add 3 units of Skinks it goes down to 2/4 behemoths.

Is this just a warscroll builder bug or is there some rule I am missing that removes the behemoth limit with skinks?

Ah, see I really like that. Although FP costs would need changing of course.

No one would want another Slaanesh before their 6 month FAQ where you kill all the Keepers just for them to get 1-2 back next turn 😅

It would just come in within 3" of the garrison

I honestly think the only fate point cost that would need to change is pinks. Trading 3 units of pinks for the 30 points of Lord of Change seems fair.

I don't think Pinks splitting into blues/brims will ever get us fate points,  it would make it easier to summon in other items and just ultimately spam them, like screamers or flamers. Also if they went back to the old method of Blue and Brim points, it'd mean FAR too much overhead in tracking everything again and it'd ****** a lot of people off. Pissed me off when I played the old tome.

I don't mean, splitting generates fate points. I meant that rather than petty vengeance, killing a pink EITHER splits into a blue, OR the controller generates a fate point. So the controller has the option. Combine that with a 1-1-1 split and they could come down to 140-160 points. This way people who want the 30 wound anvil can have it, but a lot more summoning lists could come out. Getting a free 30 fate points turn one because you got alpha striked and all your pinks are gone is a cool thing imo.

There's a reason I generally run no more than 10-20 Pinks in my lists. I'm just in favor of 1-1-1 rather than them generating FP.. I feel that even in HD they would be toned down a bit just because they would be easier to 1-shot the whole unit. With 50+ wounds as explained above, there's a lot of units that can't 1 shot them and then 1 Fold Reality later and you have problems again.

I mean, I'm already working on lists that maximize minuses to hit. 30 wounds would become nigh impossible to remove.

And I hate that by buying 4 start collecting boxes I have to buy EIGHT blue/brim boxes to get full value.

  14. 11 minutes ago, Gwendar said:

I'll be honest, I would much prefer that and I wouldn't feel like I would need to bring along as many. I'd rather see them split into a single Blue than 2 but I don't know if they'll change that. Right now, the fact that I have to buy\build\paint\transport 2-3x the amount of Blues to Pinks is just dumb. What you're proposing would be a bit closer to how they used to work anyway... just make each dead Pink worth 2 and Blues worth 1.. maybe Brims worth nothing?

I agree though, I think Pinks are what need to be looked at. 220 points for 50+ wounds is nuts.. a lot of the strongest punchy units in the game are still only putting put 35-45 damage on average with some cases easily clearing 50-70 damage. HD is strong, but Conflag and lately Hosts Arcanum have been stronger.. but Conflag is just good because Flamers are good while Pinks are just incredible in general. Not being able to retreat is a big deal, but so many units are already losing out on a whole turn even if they could retreat since they can't shoot\charge barring a few exceptions.. the most they can do is run onto an objective to regain control.

Oh believe me I feel your pain. I am currently building Tzeentch and so tired of how many models I have to build. They took away the fate points because they didn't balance the summoning costs, just like with Slaneesh.  They need to either let them generate fate points, or only break down 1-1-1. Regardless,  with Hosts Duplicitous its going to be a nightmare for armies without teleports.

It isn't something I think I would ever run IRL as it would likely require about 120+ Blue Horrors due to the returning of models\healing causing a lot of Pink-Blue splits. Not a lot of raw power, but you're really just teleporting that unit of 20 in range of the Changeling and giving them an auto-charge, take an objective and then count as double models. Your opponent now has to chew through an inescapable100+ wounds worth of Horrors that are -2 to hit in melee and -1 to hit at range.

Stack the other Horrors on objectives (who can also be -1  to hit) in such a way that they can't get to them and just sit there for a few turns while they try to whittle down the Horrors.

Stuff like this is why I see another nerf down the road.  I think they should just let pinks dying generate normal fate points. Then raise the summoning cost on pinks and lower some other things.

Best case, pinks get a minor nerf. Worst case, Hosts Duplicitous gets nerfed like Petrifex did.
