    I'm gonna be bringing:
    Petrifex Elite - Prized Sorcery
    Nagash
    Liege-Kavalos - General (Mighty Archaeossian/Godbone Armor)
    2x20 Mortek Guard
    5 Kavalos Deathriders
    Bone-Tithe Shrieker
...alll in the Battle Regiment for 1 drop.

    We'll see how it goes!

People who've played Nagash in OBR, how are you finding Shrieker? Would you prefer Spell Mirror?

I'm wondering the same thing. My first instinct was spell portal, since being able to delete unkillable hero monsters is incredibly valuable this edition, but the biggest offenders (Gotrek, Morathi, Archaon) are immune or very resilient to Hand of Dust, and the +1 to hit is very useful when we can't use All Out Attack. I see denying Rally and Inspiring Presence as minor, situational bonuses.

I have my first game with both Bonereapers and Nagash this weekend - vs Archaon no less - and I'm leaning Shrieker, but I'm not 100% on it.

  3. Howdy folks, I messed up and seem to have misplaced the hip armor on Lauka Vai (#20 and #21 on the sprue), does anyone happen to have extras of these or ones they didn't use? I would really appreciate it if someone used the kit for a conversion and didn't need them!

She still looks good without, but it's going to bother me until I get my hands on some...

I guess the loreseeker is unique again? They seemed to take away the unique trait in the pitched battle list, but in the errata it says the model is unique again?

That's carried over from the last FAQ when he was still unique (and is actually not errata). As of right now, he is still unique AFAIK.

Also, ouch, huge nerf to the twinstones and sanctum. I don't think either are worth their points anymore by any margin.

It's hard to draw a lot of value from that battle as your opponent's list isn't very well tuned. Did you two suggest changes the Nurgle player could make to be more in line with the demands of AoS3?

Hard to draw conclusions about Lumineth's competitive ability, sure, but we both went into it knowing it was a casual game and were getting used to 3.0. As far as actually playing the new GHB missions and rules, it was a fun learning experience.

It was in the FAQ, he can't take artefacts/command traits 😕

In the GHB 2021 pitched battle profiles, the Loreseeker is no longer "Unique" like he was in the 2.0 tome, so he can take artifacts and command traits now...thougth we'll see how long that lasts, because it also means you can bring more than one.

  6. Played my first game of 3.0 with vs a Munificent Wanderers list using all of the GHB rules, figured I'd share some thoughts and interesting interactions.
My list was very similar to a 2.0 list I ran, now minus two ballista, with everything except the Dawnriders fitting into the 1-drop battalion:

    Spoiler

    Great Nation: Zaitrec

    Teclis
Cathallar - General, Command Trait: Fast Learner
Loreseeker - Artifact: Gift of Celennar

    3x10 Wardens
    2x10 Sentinels
    1x5 Dawnriders

    Twinstones

    His list was:

    Spoiler

    Great Unclean One
    Sloppity Bilepiper
    Spoilpox Scrivener
    Verminlord Corruptor

    30 Plaguebearers
    20 Plaguebuerers
    10 Plaguebearers

    6 Plague Drones

My list was definitely stronger than his was, to say the least. We played Savage Gains from the GHB, and my opponent conceded in bottom of round 3 due to not believing he could catch up on points (I didn't agree, but it was certainly an uphill battle for him at that point). A few notes:

    1. Prized Sorcery is, as expected, an auto take, and with my list meant he had to table me to score his Grand Strategy. I had only lost 6 Wardens by bottom of 3.
    2. The Loreseeker with the 4+ ward artifact is bonkers - I don't think he should be able to take this. He is surprisingly hard to kill, and being able to heal him with Calming Zephyr and Heroic Recovery is very frustrating for your opponent. However, my opponent gave away priority round 3 to remove the objective he was sitting on...that's one way to deal with him I guess. Which leads me to...
    3. Neither of us actually took priority when we won the roll. I knew that on this mission, with the loreseeker, I wanted to give away priority round 3 to remove the middle objective the loreseeker wasn't on, which meant that I also wanted to give away priority turn 2 since I didn't want to get doubled into 3 (though in retrospect, I could have probably set up a situation where this was worth it). Huge fan of this rule and I look forward to playing all the new missions with this in mind!
    4. The most interesting interaction is how Lumineth in general do with new rule on triggered effects (1.6.4) - I had not realized that this includes friendly AND enemy effects, so when his "One Last Gift" Command Trait procs mortals back on my 6s to hit while I proc mortal wounds on 6s (or 5s) to hit, I get to choose my trigger INSTEAD of his since I made the roll, RAW. This means that with all the defensive effects that proc on your opponents hit rolls, all the "mortals on 6" or "2 hits on 6" triggers get to completely ignore them - which, for lumineth, is most of the army. Finally...
    5. Dealing with coherency in units of 6 with large base sizes looks like such a pain. Getting plague drones in on my Loremaster was an exercise in frustration for him, and further convinced me the rule should be 2-6 models or go away altogether.

Happy to answer any questions any might have about the game. All in all, LOVE the new missions and battle tactics, meh on coherency rules. VERY much looking forward to playing more games out of the GHB.

  7. So what are we thinking in terms of valuing the named spirits vs the unnamed ones? Avalenor is 50 points more than a generic one, and Sevireth is 80 (!) more (so 30pts increased disparity from 2.0).  From what I can tell, as heroes they get: 2d3 possible recovery a turn, once per game +1 hit and save, and the ability to give themselves command abilities, in addition to their warscroll differences.

I haven't seen the missions yet so I'm not sure if heroes get any extra bonuses in scoring, but do we think they are worth the increased premium? I'm leaning towards yes, but I'm not sure...

Not a lot comment here about V3. I don't want to go into details about the new rules. There are too much changes and I guess nobody tested it enough.

But on a general first impression : which unit / hero / nation / spell will benefit of the new mechanisms? Which one are downgraded?

I'll try to quickly answer with what I've seen. Feel free to disagree or add :

    :(

    • Alarith / stoneguard because of the loss of the bataillon
    • Hurakan / windcharger because of the loss of the bataillon
    • Hurakan spirit compared to Sevireth because he is not a hero (Sevi +50 cost was already worth it)
    • Syar (just a bit) because you cannot use anymore the CA twice per phase (so no more 3 aetherquartz)
    • Shrine because it can be destroyed by monsters (we need to be careful when setting it up)
    • Loreseeker because he cannot get 2+ save with reroll if 1 (less survability I presume)

    :)

    • Every hero/monster obviously. Maybe Teclis cost will be raised like Nagash/Alarielle?
    • Illyatha for their native ability to double CA without paying any CP
    • Sentinels because of the so powerful CA to counter charge

I was looking through the Great Nations with 3.0 in mind after watching some batreps and I was frankly stunned at how good Iliatha seems now. The bravery buff is always decent, but Unity of Purpose (copying a command ability from one Vanari to another within 3") seems incredible with CAs like Redeploy, Rally, and Unleash Hell. Their Strike in Unison CA also has new legs now that rerolling ones are harder to come by.

I've usually been running Zaitrec, but for the first few games of 3.0 I'm definitely going to be trying out Iliatha.

Does a big, chunky increase like that on Sentinels (if it's true, going from 140 to 200, so well above the suggested 15% wider increases that are expected to happen) reign in the threat of Lumineth shooting somewhat?

The increase to 200 points isn't even a rumor, that was some wishlisting that people started spreading IIRC.

Also, and I'm saying this as a Lumineth player, the problem with Sentinels is primarily not the points (as there are plenty of efficient shooting units that are "fair") but with the warscroll itself. I would like to see the Scryhawk Lantern ability (that allows no-LoS shooting) to be once per game, or simply to be unable to choose heroes with less than 10w.

  10. Personally, I'm gonna stick with AoS 2.0 rules until the points changes are revealed (hopefully this saturday). Certain things, like Hero Monsters, clearly will be going up in points accordingly, and I'm guessing some unit sizes will be changing too. This is to say, games played with 3.0 rules and 2.0 points likely won't represent how the new edition really plays.

  11. Man...no army looks as good uniformly painted as Lumineth do. Awesome job @mjay9090.

On less optimistic note, I do agree with @Yondaime that the removal of warscroll battalions and new coherency rules have cemented Wardens and Sentinels as the go-to core of list building, even more so than before. Stoneguard, and to a certain extent Windchargers, just dont feel right outside of their respective temple battalions, to say nothing of their mathematical effectiveness.

I'm very curious to see where Lumineth land with new points...I could see Teclis going WAY up since he's a hero and monster, as well as an increased discrepancy between the normal Spirit of the Mountain and Avalenor, since he's also a hero+monster. I think as a competitive faction Lumineth stand to do very well in the new edition as long as they aren't pointed exorbitantly high.

My hopes for faction expansion not new armies

    Idoneth

    Embaillor (Beast controller hero)

    Endless spells

Bonus - New sea monster or crab.

    Sylvaneth

    Kurnothi release

Bonus - New book massively reduces the reliance on woods as a mechanic.

    Lumineth

No more models you have enough.

    Slaves to Darkness

New multipart kits for warriors and knights plus actual good rules.

Some kind of cool marauder replacement.

    Skaven

Some kind of AoS style range.

Unfortunately, I would put money on the opposite of all these things happening 😆

Is there going to be a faction article about OBR today? They are next in line but I'm not sure if they post these on weekends.

I would love to see how their RDP mechanic works with existing changes in 3.0

Presumably, nothing changes until their next book because nothing *needs* to change, even if it *should*. It's unclear how much actual errata they will be adding to old tomes to bring them in line with the new edition.

Gloom and doom is entirely warranted. Why? Well, one reason is that the company in question has a history of making bad rules and game design choices. WH has never been a good game, and more often than not it has been a rather poor game and right now it is trending in that poor direction.

A new rule set is announced and we have been given partial information X regarding those rules. What constitutes this partial information X is entirely in the hands of the people designing the game.

The fact that partial information X seems to just aggravate the current issues points to one of the two conclusions: people in charge do not know what the problems with the game are or people in charge do not care what the problems with the game are.

Granted, they may stumble upon a good rule set by chance, but under these conditions, with their apparent awareness of the issues and past performance, it is far more likely that they will not.

Bottom line is - organization that thinks that it is a good idea to come out with these particular snippets at this point in time, likely has no idea how to actually fix the game.

I will not hold my breath expecting that people that have consistently made poor decisions come up with some brilliant piece of game design.

Or! The rules designers, let's call X, and the community/marketing team, lets call Y, are not the same people, as X=/=Y.

X and Y probably both don't like using unnecessary variables though. Not gonna touch the "WH has never been a good game".

Kinda weird given that Morathi has been updated that with a rule/CA that double shoots the snakes (in a different phase lol)

dont expect to see a rule like you have mentioned. Maybe we will grt better terrain rules?

I don't expect that specific rule either, but we literally have no idea what, if any, other restrictions on shooting would be.

  16. For all we know, there's a rule that units can only be selected to shoot once per battle round, and this new CA helps mitigate getting double turned with a shooting army. I can think of several other rules that would mitigate this, chill out folks.

    NO. GOD NO.
You don't need to be the unit charged to use this, and you only need to be within 9" after the charge is completed, and it stacks with the Coatl's claw command ability.

Let's put this in context though - other command abilities are getting much more powerful, and command points won't stack through turns. With all the options to use CP on (including other charge reactions) there are real decisions that have to be made by both players in both turns, which is great.

It feels like AoS needs something inbetween rend and MW if they are gonna keep power creeping armies.

Hot take: AoS doesn't have nearly as much power creep as people tend to claim. If you look at winrates, there is surprisingly little correlation between how new a book is and how effective it is - that said, there are obvous exceptions to this (Gloomspite, Nighthaunt, Stormcast, which at least have 40%+ winrates)

Another hot take: The game is better *with* mortal wounds than without them, and having MW represent "non-physical" damage (i.e. magic, poisons, etc) that isn't mitigated by armor is in fact very fluffy.
