Was it a 2k list? I'm 2k vs 1k will be crazy different, as in 2k you have to being some on from reserves so you dont get the TE buffs, but in 1k you can (I mean more than 12 of them in 2k)

    2K list.

Opp ran CoS Hammerhall:  Stardrake, Luminarch, sorceress, cogsmith, chariots, 40 dreadspears and 10 random shooters.

At 1k you have only 1 battleline, don’t you need two?

furthermore, you should tell us what your team is bringing... so you better taylor it

You might be right.  I'll need to double check if it is GHB 2019 or 2018.  If so then the AGK is probably the place for extra Ghouls + CP.

No idea what the team is bringing.  Maybe at least Eels and Bestigor Slaanesh?  I need something that will balance with the wildcards.

  3. Hey all.  I'm thinking of some lists for Adepticon.  I'm playing in the 2 day Teams event and then the 2 day Singles.  For those unfamiliar with the Team event it is a team of 4 players, each with a 1K list.  Each round you pair with someone on your team and then play on single table 2K vs 2K.  Singles will be 2K.  I'm not sure what my teammates will be bringing (and one prob won't know till the morning  of!)  So I need a 1K core that can be flexible that I can bring up to 2K.

    Here's the 1K list

    Allegiance: Death

Feast Day.  Probably +2 to cast Trait/Artifact
    Abhorrant Archregent (240)
    Abhorrant Ghoul King (160)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
    40 x Crypt Ghouls (360)
    Chalice of Ushoran (50)

    Total: 990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 65

    2K list:

    Allegiance: Death
    Abhorrant Archregent (240)
    Abhorrant Ghoul King (160)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
    Crypt Ghast Courtier (60)
Abhorrant Ghoul King on Royal Terrorgheist (420)
    40 x Crypt Ghouls (360)
    10 x Crypt Ghouls (100)
    10 x Crypt Ghouls (100)
    6 x Crypt Flayers (340)
    Chalice of Ushoran (50)
    Extra Command Point (50)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 123

So my question is for the 1K list if I should trade 1 of the Courtiers for the extra command point.  I'm gambling that pulling off an Alpha strike will be more difficult in a team environment.  Given the mixing of teammates, I figured a block of Ghouls that never goes away would be decent.  But it isn't really terribly flexible. It just sort of does the one thing.

-General (for safer summoning... Dragon instead?

If you're undecided on the Artifact, then try the Orb of Enchantment.  It's a unique effect  that can deal with a lot of the weird stuff that you run into out there that the BK can't.  It works best with opposing big flashy hero behemoths, which not everyone has.  The Amulet is more consistent.

It is so easy for the VLs to get sniped.  I see the appeal though.  You want the VLoZD chomping through stuff, not taking a turn off to run back to a gravesite to summon.  ESPECIALLY, if all that is is a 5 wolf screen.  I was looking at some of the larger support heroes for this reason but again, anything worth bringing back will cut into the BK budget.

  5. I played a HammerHall mirror last night.

    I ran:  Griffon, Celestial Prime, General, Wizard w Geminids, 3 x 10 Flagellants, 2 x 30 Greatswords

He ran: Stardrake, Luminarch, Sorceress, cogsmith, 10 archers (or something), 40 Dreadspears, 12 Chariots

Focal Points in the Realm w Banishment (Spoiler Alert)

Basically, I didn't have an answer for the Stardrake.  I was able was able to effectively push up against the chariots and establish a line diagonal across the table controlling 4 of the 5 objectives.  I was able to pull ahead on VPs quite comfortably.  I used the Prime to pin the 40 Dreadspears but it got Banished.  The Dreadspears took a chunk out of the Greatswords mostly via battleshock.  The Stardrake crunched my center which was my support characters and 20 flagellants.  I made an error in collapsing onto my flank objective instead of charging a unit of Chariots.  The Stardrake then got into them.  He was then able to shoot off the the rest of my big pieces and that was that.

All in all, disappointing.  I think 30 was the right number for the Greatswords.  They performed as expected.  Battleshock is as brutal as always.  I so want the Flagellants to be even just OK but they just weren't.  10 pts cheaper, WM when they die or a Banner;  anything.  Oh well.  I'll run a unit for flavor but 3 units was way too many.  A stardrake attacking twice is good.  A 2+ re-rollable save is good.  If only I could give the Armor to the Prime.  I'm not sure if 2 beatstick characters is better than an anchor stardrake.

My buddy noted that he would rather have had 30 heavy infantry instead of the 40 Dreadspears.  He's also down to 9 Chariots.  He just wanted to see all the 12 he had on the table.

  6. So if you were to go all in on a Hammerhall Stardrake what would be the thing to pair it with?   The Armor puts the Stardrake at a 2+ save, reroll 1s.

The Sorceress is pretty cool, so as many Dreadspears as possible?

Is the Celestant Prime a better fit in Hammerhall?  It doesn't warp a list the way that a Stardrake does.  I know Star drakes are out of favor at the moment but can Hammerhall bring them back?

Anointed and Knight-Azyros will be with two units of Phoenix Guard and buff them.

Anointed on Frostheart and Knight-Incantor will be with the other two units of Phoenix Guard to buff them. Incantor could cast Mystic Shield on Frostheart Phoenix to make him save 2+ with 1s rerollable.

Sisters of the Thorn will be with Gotrek to cast Wings of Fire on him and possibly Emerald Lifeswarm when needed.

Oh man, I don't even know.  Gotrek is going to do what the Stardrake does.  It will completely warp the list around itself due to the high points cost.  In fact, just make him a Stardrake.  The Hammerhall fight ability is so good but so restrictive.  I think you really want the payoff to be huge for jumping through that hoop.  I'm assuming Gotrek won't pick up the ability whereas the Stardrake would.

Thoughts?  I like the idea of a Celestant Prime.  I'm locked into some number of Greatswords.  Griffon or Steam Tank?  I figure I need a big character to sit on objectives in some of the missions.  But the steam tank is a form of reach of sorts.

Not interested in a competitive list.  2-3 is fine.  Just don't want to be embarrassed.

Yes, I know the Flagellants aren't as good as the Guard.  Whatever.  I've wanted to paint the models since they came out and I just need a unit to either stand in front of the Greatswords, sit on an objective, or zone out a summoning/reserve unit.

@Rune cool army, but i find it a bit low on body count. Try to fit 1-2 extra units of Guard/Shooter it will help you holding your own objective and create board coverage. I think you can easily drop the Comet for an extra such unit.

I definitely think the 10 Greatswords need to be 20 Guard.  You need some bodies to bulk up the model count.  As a general rule I try to either go for expensive infantry or expensive cav in a list, not both.   YMMV.

Looking to build some hammerhall army for casual game (Will likely use Hallowheart for competitive).

A model i'll likely use that nobody seem to be talking is the Celestial Prime. It really fit well with the Command to attack twice. Deep striking him on turn 2 and he is a threath to any ennemy piece.

It's a bit sad that a lot of the freeguild units are overpriceds (expecially Griffin vs Frost Phoenix and Greatsword vs Phoenix guard).

That might be the thing to do.  I've not been impressed with Hammerhall's reach outside of the  Knights.

speaking of the lancers, what is the best support for it? I was thinking either a lot of dark shards and a sorceress to support, or going for dwarfs again with two squads of iron drakes or breakers and a rune lord. Or, Just taking a battle mage on griffon to fit the theme.

I've been taking a hard look at the Runelord.  If you're not going all in on magic or looking to pull off a vital spell and need the sorceress' +2 to cast, then the Runelord's +2 looks pretty good.  Haven't run it though.  I hear you about theme though.  Not that a random Dwarf running around isn't per se but the CA seems a bit of a waste to not have a unit to target.

I've actually tried up to 6 x 3, but that's just too much, doesn't leave a lot of room for infantry bodies to hold objectives

Do you have a list?  What character do you have in support?

  14. Allegiance: Cities of Sigmar

    Steam Tank with Commander (250)

Looking for a painting project more than a competitive list.  Trying to build around the blocks of Greatswords.  The Steam Tanks seem better support than Griffons.  Plus I've got a conversion idea...  I could adjust the Flagellants to pick up more hand gunners but I think I just need a big screen in front of my line T1.  No Adjutant though.  Or magic.....

  15. Is there an aggressive build that is more forgiving?  Is it just the Stardrake and blocks of Sequitors?  Evocators, either with Gav or on the Dracolines is expensive.  Still, I could run both?  Something like:

    Allegiance: Order
    Gavriel Sureheart (120)
    Lord-Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline (220)
    Spellweaver (100)
    - Heartwood Staff
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    10 x Evocators (440)
    6 x Evocators on Dracolines (600)
    3 x Aetherwings (50)
    3 x Aetherwings (50)
    Extra Command Point (50)
    Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (60)

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 119

As always, not enough bodies...  Is it too greedy?  I'm just looking for 50/50 middle table sort of list.  I'm an aggressive player so don't just want to just default to the Longbows and ballistas, but I've got a paint scheme I'm considering.

That's a very hefty price to pay for a support hero, who has no MW save and is now the only monster in the army making her an absolute prime target for a whole bunch of stuff. You're now paying over 1/3rd of your points for 3 support heroes

For many armies, I keep looking for the line between "valuable support option" and "Win more than I would have otherwise".  Just need to start getting reps in.  My first purchase is on the way and will be proxying up a game next week!

I was actually using the orb of enchantment but completely forgot about it. When we realised we were too far in, but we play tested if I'd used it and I did a good 9 wounds to the gheist with my Archai and vamp,  which would definitely of slowed it down and most importantly stopped it wiping out my 2 Archai In 1 round..

I think the Orb is a great answer.  I run it on my VLoZD w Sanguine Blur as my Trait.  Works against a lot of problematic stuff.  Need a buff or some support to drop the GKoTG though.
