Get as many Mounted GK and...

I heard the LVO winning list was min/maxed with ghouls/GK-Terrorgheists.  Must have been doing some serious dancing all day.

Gotta admit the notion of a dedicated  ranged-mortal-alpha-strike FEC list is intriguing.

    Any suggestions or criticisms?

Share the results, especially if there is a win.  Details please.

Also the choice word “shenanigans” is entirely appropriate.  In a 40k League game for giggles someone threw an Eldar list of Named Characters at me plus one transport at me.

wait a min...since when do they get to pick 2 spells?

On the main page of each Legion the fourth item down is “Magic” and that is where the rule is from.

He probably got confused with VDM and others in the mix.  I’m not surprised people missed it in game play.  Those details are hard to keep track of.  I’m also not surprised that the list author got confused, the technical writing is correct but it would have been better sourced with an, “one additional spell to Spells on the warscroll.”  In past editions of GWs fantasy we were always picking a spell.  So seeing “additional” is going to mean something different to us old farts.

So what is the best way to start? Should i buy the Nighthaunt part from the Soul wars box

Soul Wars box is a trap on the Nighthaunt side.  I ended up splitting two and getting a third to deal with the Grimgaist Reaper bull.  It looks like GW definitely did not learn from the the first AOS box or maybe they did and loaded Soul Wars on characters and problematic units as a marketing strategy.

So the three options are Soul Wars

1 - Split one box for a deal on characters and Chainrasp unit.

2 - Three boxes to fill your collection.  Values on a second and third characters is a sticky topic.  60 Chainraps and 10 Grimsgasts are pretty good.  The Glaivewraith Stalkers are iffy, good for having a the whole Nighthaunt range but in the end are a personal choice depending how badly you like their warscroll batallion.  Dollar to value does go down sharply after the first box.

3 - Be mercenary.  Use eBay or local gaming communities and cherrypick models.  Keep price in mind, some people selling get weird notions on value based on MSRP and “rarity”.

    Agree on all points

If you really want to get crazy, have her count as a Tomb Banshee for the battalion 😶

Sick!  You’re  evil, I actually went and checked the keywords.

Aside it could also be that GW looked at the likely sales distaster that was the-skeletelal-Squad-that-shall-not-be-named and decided to do it better this time.

  6. When different unit is already debuffing the leadership it indeed does not matter.

You do have a point about Deathless Minions.  The description states it having an effect on the hero or general that then can be applied on any “death” tagged units.  Your ally is the passive unit and not the proccing Hero/General which all have the allegemce abilities.  I’d avoid situations  to use it from an allied Death Hero.  This upcoming spring is the local AoS league and I’ve been having soul crushing issues with not bringing the Briar Queen allied to LoN.

Managed to pick up the Briar Queen set, and found her squad to actually be fairly easy to slot into many of my existing lists.

Excited to have some -3 rend lurking in my battleline as well as an extra cheap objective camping squad, also to see if I can ever get her spell to combine with shackles!

A spellcaster with shooting.  It was almost as if one of the Devs were throwing us a bone.  It doesn’t hurt that the model is gorgeous.  The only way this could get any better is if they FAQ her unit to be Battleline like other Chainrasps

  8. Is anyone else converting spare Spirit of Torments from the box set to Chainghasts?  I am, it will save me buying a whole Chainghast  box and keep down what would have been a stupid oversupply of a Hero option.

    griping start //

And yet every time I look at their rules, 30 grimghasts jusy look more and more like the best unit available to the army by a country mile.  Not just grave guard, but morghasts (even in LoN!), vargheists, knights of all varieties...

Perfect post Sception.  99% of it is factual or feels likely to be right in the future.

I just want to jump in a qualifier on Morghasts Harbingers in The Grand Host of Nagash.  Four of them with Spirit Halberds is a brutal hammer.  The Allegiance buff fixes their low dice count verses point cost.  Toss that on the obscene amount of rend and damage.  Lastly with their crazy charge rules the only way they can fail is poor tactical decisions or a bad dice role.

During our local groups tournament day capping a league they deleted a unit of 20x Blood Letters before the moral phase and on a double turn did the same to a Blood Thirster.

In fact about the only unit I wouldn’t want to haphazardly throw them on would be a 30x Grimghast Reaper unit.  Hmmm... stupid ethereal saves.

Heu guys! I have bought the starter set but the unit sizes are odd. What do you recommend guys? Is it a general consensus of how to fix this in a easy way??

My “easy way” was buy two Soul Wars sets and trade from day one.  Which is crazy hard around here because most people either want to keep the sets complete or they just gave away half of the minis to close friends as a lure to get them into AOS.

    eBay is an option.

I was afraid of that! Was just hoping I woulnd't have to buy two battletomes just to play Nagash and nighthaunt.
Too bad Spirit Hosts can go battle line for legions as they atm can for Nighthaunt! (subject to change in the new battle tome I guess)

Technically you wouldn’t have to get the Nighthaunt Battletomb.  Inside the AoS Box the small booklet with the Pitch Battle Profiles retroactively places all main box content Nighthaunt as part of the LON Battletomb.  Warscrolls are still free.  Thankfully we aren’t being forced to buy a new book.  Personally I’ll be getting the new Battletomb just because.
