  1. Not really the place for detailed Idoneth chat, but I will say this and add a rumour to it.

    1) It has been a feature of AoS 3rd that subfactions provide lesser benefits than previously and these benefits are more specific and flavourful.

    2) The played Idoneth enclaves from 1.0 all gave variations on reroll hits or wounds of 1. This was never going to stay in place with the new design philosophy.

    3) These previews always tell us very little about the ultimate competitive standing of an army.

    4) Playtesters and team captains have been promoting playing Idoneth with a focus on sharks as a strong competitive option.

Most regulars know I am a diehard Idoneth player and interested in competitive play. I'm not worried. Please trust x

first nautilar being changed to fun turtle lists only.. was ok since it was useles but

now they utterly butcher fuethan, one of our only 2 playable enclaves.

so we lost eeb flow ( armywide buff 1 turn) and rerolls 1s to wound on bite on EVERY mount to..... 1 shark of 1 unit of sharks( we are even forced to play them as unit despite his joke 6bv) 6s on bite get extra..... so we exchange all those nasty armywide buffs for a potential 0.5-1.5 bites on 1 shark....

my only hope at this point is they dont touch dom-haim plsss gw at least leave us one playable enclave

cant think on a worst alliance passive among all edittions of 40k and aos

I'd say not to worry. Things are going to be ok 😊

I have some rules rumours that aren't super exciting, but are relatively reliable (GW could change things ofc).

One is that Sharks will get battleline when taken in a specific enclave (maybe Fuethan?) and further buffs from that enclave.

Second, that thralls will be significantly more viable due to additional support from rules we haven't seen yet.

    My rumour was truuuuuuue.

Yeah so complaining about buffs again. Nice, IDK players as we know and love them. I'd take that ability for S2D or Khorne if you do not need it any longer :D

I'm not complaining. I don't mind at all. I just don't see it as a particularly interesting rule from a competitive standpoint.

    This is kinda eh.

Leviadons do an OK amount of damage, have good support (mostly the save bonus maybe the nemarti hit bonus is worth) and very good survivability Vs normal wounds with poor Vs mortals.

I don't really see how taking more than one is desirable unless they've significantly changed.

Especially if, as I have been led to believe, you can get battleline sharks in another enclave.

  6. I've only read one Black Library book "The Court of the Blind King" and it was utter trash. Not in the way I expected, I was ready for it to be pulpy nonsense. My issue was that it flat out ignored and contradicted all the established Idoneth lore and just made them into super generic dark elves.

  7. I'm hoping we see the tides table and some news on forgotten nightmares for Idoneth. High tide is one of the most powerful allegiance abilities that they've ever made. Forgotten nightmares is niche, but with the number of shooting units in the meta also has potential to be very potent.

Im fully expecting an A or S tier tome based on playtesters and competitive teams preparing for summer events.

  8. Chance they will toss out fyreslayers and Idoneth for pre order next week. We've had some eldar previews but they still haven't shown any craftworlds or Ynnari stuff. Or it's codex Aeldari and they do the rules previews for craftworlds and Ynnari this week?

  9. The Eidolons of Mathlann are a bit like the Yncarne in Ynnari armies. Basically using the soul energy of dead elves to summon a powerful entity than represents their god. Except for Ynnari their god hasn't been born, whereas with Idoneth he's dead.

It would be interesting if they gave Idoneth a plot to restore Mathlann as a way of defending themselves from chaos / Teclis. I'm guessing they think that is too similar to the DoK / Eldar stories though.

It would be nice for Idoneth to have more of a narrative than just hunting for souls.

I can see DoKhaine being merged into whatever Malekith's lot are, but Idoneth just feel too distinctive visually and in lore to really soup well into that.

Both armies are popular enough (if you look at player surveys and tournament stats) that GW can justify selling books for each.

I don't think they want to soup armies where you can comfortably sell two books.

  11. I'm sure we will get a crab or crabs for the Deepkin at some point. I'm just not sure it's going to be this soon.

Like someone mentioned with Nighthaunt above, I'm sure there are a ton of Deepkin designs that didn't make it into the launch but are kept on file for future.

  12. Wow ****** me for playing Idoneth right. Toss me a FOMO hero and weird unit update then don't announce my book. Optimist me says it's because we're getting something more than just a book. Realist me says it's because GW hate my army.

Also poor DoK players, two FOMO boxes in little over a year. The new character is cool though, I wonder if she has Idoneth armour in lore that she got from fighting them / with them. The paint scheme is the same as the GW Idoneth armour and doesn't match the normal colours for DoK.
