Damage

Played our second game yesterday and the damage number has cropped up.

If a weapon has d3 damage is that per attack the weapon has?

Also if the attack kills all models within the range of the weapon are any additional damage wasted?

Yes, D3 damage per unsaved wound.

Only one model of a unit needs to be in range to be targetted. Casualties are removed from the unit, range doesn't matter.

Building on what@Ratamaplata said, you only remove casualties once all attacks by a unit are completed. Models don't attack specific models, there's no concept of "you can only reach x models", etc.
If you've come to AoS from other GW games, I'd recommend having a *real* slow read of the rules. There's a lot of stuff in there that is easy to miss because it reads like it's familiar.
