RobF
Sorry if this is a real newbie question ... Does the wording of this warscroll mean I can take a single unit with BOTH and Icon of Gork AND an Orruk Banner ?
Shane
Yes. That's how we play it. The plural is the indicator to me. Otherwise it'd be "A model in this unit may be a Standard Bearer". It's the plural that makes the Plague Monks a decent unit.
Anodyr
Not something I'd realised before, but yes, multiple standards (and musicians too by the look of it) in a unit are legit. Just checked the scrolls for Bloodreavers and a few other units, and they generally use the phrase "if a unit contains any icon bearers..." Implying that multiple is allowed, but the plague monks example is pretty conclusive - the first line in the description of their two standard types reads "if a unit contains one or more Icons of Pestlence/Contagion Banner...". if it wasnt for the plague monks, I'd have assumed the intent was to limit to one standard in a unit, and it was just poorly worded, but units can clearly pack spares. ? Knight of Ruin
the only thing to realise is, that multiple of the same banner has minimal uses, as you choose which model dies anyway, you can keep the banner alive until later. However, in this case it seems you can have 2 different banners, which is quite useful.
Dangermouse425
Yes, as per the rules, but check with your TO before you enter any event as they will sometimes comp it so you can only have one type of banner in each unit, as I believe SCGT did. Terry Pike
You could have a unit entirely made of banners & musicians if you wanted to. However some comps packs / house rules stop this from happening by limiting you to one of each per unit.
hobgoblinclub
It was also confirmed in the FAQ as far as I remember. While it's true that most banner abilities don't stack, multiples of the same banner obviously lessen the chance of losing that ability. A big unit with a few banners in can also look pretty cool. Tronhammer NZ
There is a really good practical reason that the rules work this way, too. You usually buy these units in boxes of 5 or 10. If you want to field them as small units with command squads, you can do so. But if you want to field a unit of say 20, you are suddenly 3 models short if you had to leave out one of the command squads. A small thing, but greatly appreciated by WYSIWYG enthusiasts like myself
