Charging

Two questions I have based on some bat reps I've watched...

1. Some units can charge 3D6 but I have seen people using this to let units charge who aren't within 12" of another unit. Rules say you need to be within 12... is that correct or has it been overruled in a FAQ/errata?

2. If you roll to charge is there anything to say you have to? I thought you can roll then choose whether you want to charge anything within that range but don't have to?

You can charge 3d6 but only within 12" unless specifically told otherwise. (See morghast harbingers)

No, you roll to charge then choose what or if you charge. 

 

Edit, there is a couple of units who must always charge, and must always try to complete that charge. Example: stonehorn.
