The glimmermist ability gives the MW a +1 save. But since 1's are auto fails does this mean a roll of a 1 is a failed save even though her rules give her a +1?

Yes, the rules of 1 override what's on the warscrolls (e.g.,  Kroak can't cast his special spell multiple times in matched play, per the FAQ, despite what it says on his scroll).

Note that this only affects matched play (unless you've made some house rules). For open or narrative play, 1+ means you can't fail the save for rend-less attacks.
