Am I correct in my understanding that units that ignore rend of -1, would still ignore rend of a weapon even though the rustfang had weakened their armour by 1?

it's reducing their save, not increasing rend. 

so yea, but their save would still be reduced. 

so that 4+ becomes a 5+ etc after dice have been rolled

Thanks, that was as I suspected.

Shame that +4 ignore rend of -1 doesn’t become +6 however haha
