Target war machine and crew

Hello all!

We are playing  am AOS battle atm and a question came up which we can t really agree so we wanted to ask here what the consensus is.

It s about targeting war machines and crew.

In this case the reaper bolt thrower. The FAQ says:

Q: With war machines and crew, how should you allocate wounds? A: A war machine and its crew are two separate units, and so must be targeted separately.

The question now is: does this only "target" the allocating of the wounds part e.g. its "one" unit. Or does that also mean that the crew and the warmachine are 2 seperate units in all belongings and can be specifically targeted and killed. For example: a unit of archers has to declare that it shoots at the crew or the warmachine.

You declare what you shoot at, so you can target the crew and kill them. Since they aren't as tough and have less wounds everyone targets the crew first, hence disabling the Warmachine.

Slightly related though, remember that the warmachine itself is still a model and can contribute in controlling an objective, and needs to be destroyed too if the opponent wants to win by clearing the table of all enemies.
