3 little chaos warriors sitting in a box

A nice cheap way to get involved with the hobby, also not as open to conversions as other boxes but we still have options
Swapping heads is always quite easy and by using a plume from another unit you can add eldritch fire and make a Wightking with tomb blade

    Looks pretty good imo
I used one of the other ones to make an inquisitor

I have one more to go and I'm not sure what I'll turn him into but I'll think if something

I screwed up a little bit, got ditracted and then decided to make an inquisitorial warband out of most of my remaining cultists so more conversions will have to wait until I next get a box.
However before I did that, I did use one cultist to make a grave guard for a death warband which with some more armour parts could be used as a wight king with black axe

Also with a different head this guy could be a sigmarite priest

and here's the warband all hanging out

I'll be back with more cultists, they're so good for converting, I'll just try to stay focused this time

The chaos cultists have shown up in more blanchitsu articles than almost any other model (lord of plagues being the most common one, the amount of times that guy has shown up is almost comical). So let us see what AOS heroes can be made from within the exceptionally cheap box.

Well the most obvious hero I could think of was the necromancer, with a few skulls, a wildwood ranger head and some other bits, one can make a passable necromancer.

We still have 4 models to go in the box but I'm going to increase my bits box slightly before I commit to any more conversions.
    Next time: more chaos cultists

I've changed my mind of the blood warriors from storm of sigmar, they make good blightkings with some green stuff for a belly, and a helmet and weapon swap. Also here is our wight king converted from the other blood warrior.

you see plague marines? i see a multitude of options... buy multitude i mean 3
with 3 easy to build plague marines and some bits and too much time with a damn pocket knife and pair of clippers one can create

    a Lord of blights

    A lord of Plagues

    And a putrid blightking
Or just 3 putrid blightkings, with more skill and some green stuff these options could be even better.
    Cost of the official models
    Lord of Blights $40 aud
    Lord of Plagues $22 aud
Putrid blightkins $18 per model (box of 5 for $40)
    our cost $25 plus bits

The storm of sigmar box is a good value little box and pretty decent gateway drug into age of sigmar, unfortunately all the models within are of the "easy to build" variety and i thought had limited options for conversion, That was until i started tearing them to Pieces and cutting all their limbs and heads off.
So what parts do i have out of the box

    2 retributors
    3 Liberators
    3 Blood Warriors
    5 Blood Reavers
What can we make out of these?
Firstly the stormcast models are all sort of based around the same set of Chassis either a liberator or retributor body and from that base we can build quite a few of the stormcast heroes
Firstly, the most easy is the knight questor

We can see that the base is pretty much the liberator prime

So after some cutting and filing and with a spare power sword and a pretty unnecessary head swap

As you can see i did some stuff to the other liberators but they may soon have their bodies scavenger in order to make something else
Next up we have the retributors and they are pretty versatile
Forming the base for the Lord Relictor

    and the knight vexillor

Among others but seeing as you only get 2 retributors in the box

As for the bloodbound we've got some fun stuff
you can make lords of chaos or khorne skullreapers

    Wight kings

And Sigmar War priests/ excelsior warpriests

So for out of a $55 australian, box I have wrung approximately $232 aud of heroes which all look adequately fancy and I've still got a few units to mess around with
As to where this blog is going now, I've got my eyes on the easy to build Plague Marines box and some chaos warrior parts
    we'll see where it leads.
Know of any kits that are perfect for turning into other stuff? Know of any kits full of bits I can use? Know of any cheap kits that just kinda maybe look like more expensive ones if you squint? Then tell me in the comments and I'll muck around and see what I can do.

Continued from the previous entry Borne to the Battlefield
Lightning struck all around Du'Gall's warband as Stormcast began to materialise. Du'Gall's did not have the numbers to face a full stormhost but it seemed that their arrival was as disorganised as his own. This however did not stop them from attacking his warriors. A gryph hound used its beak to tear the throat out of a blood reaver, who fell, spitting gore. Liberators and Du'Galls chaos warriors fought, hurling blows against each others shields. Du'Gall let his reaper blade split a Liberators helm. The demon within revelled in the slaughter.
Worthy foes! A shame the hammer god will not allow their skulls to take their rightful place on Khorne's throne.
Du'Gall tried to keep focus as the blood haze began to cloud his mind.  The demon weapon allowed him to stand against almost any foe but was insatiable, always demanding more slaughter no matter the cost. Du'Gall did not allow the weapon to take control, asserting his will and surveying the small force of Stormcasts that had materialised amongst his forces. They were gold armoured, liberators for the most part, with shields of solid sigmarite and strong hammers that they wielded with skill and finesse. With the liberators were colourful gryph hounds, the beaked hounds were darting in to nip at his reavers and warriors. Du'Gall did not lament the loss of his reavers they were bogging down the stormcast with their berserk attacks while his black armoured chaos warriors gathered around him.

The black armoured warriors of chaos, bear the favours of their gods, Occasionally these favours did far more harm than good
A clear noble voice rang out from among the Stormcast.
"Rally brothers! Come together while I serve as a beacon for the rest of the host!"
The warrior wore gold plate and bore a warhammer, like his brethren, but his skull mask and bone filled banner set him apart as their leader. Du'Gall signalled to his chaos warriors.
"Engage the liberators, keep them away from their priest while i take his skull," His warriors moved to obey, forming a short shield wall as they closed with the liberators who did the same and the two walls met, blows stifled by the reduced space and shields.
Du'Gall edged past the entwined shield walls, straight towards the Lord Relictor.
"Oh Sigmar!" The skull masked stormcast cried "Let your lighting cleanse this filth!" He raised his reliquary, lighting flaring around it as he gathered his power. Du'Gall spat at the obvious display of magic and charged. He rammed his shoulder into the Stormcast disrupting his preparations and the lighting fizzled out. The stormcast swung with his hammer and caught Du'Gall in the side. The plate buckled and the Chaos Lord felt his side bruise instantly.
Du'Gall backed away and circled trusting to the greater reach of his reaper blade and he finally let the blade free. No more strategy was required only combat. The demon blade keened in his hand carving through the air, as he threw a series of rapid thrusts at the lord relictor. The relictor took them on his armour, bulling in and roaring as he swung his hammer high bringing it down in an overhand blow. Du'Gall dropped the reaper blade and stepped into the swing of the hammer, blunting its force as lighting crackled from its head. With one hand he gripped the handle of the hammer, the holy weapon fizzing and crackling in protest as with the other he drew his trusty sword, and hacked into the back of the relictors knee. The sword blade bit through the chainmail and cleaved tendons and the relictors leg buckled as he grunted in pain. Du'Gall rammed the guard into the relictor's chin before swinging it around and back hard into the relictor's skull mask. The sigmarite mask was torn away and the unnaturally square features of the the relictor were bloodied.
Again the relictor tried to call upon the lightning of his patron god, but Du'Gall rammed the cross guard into his jaw and while the relictor spat teeth and reeled, Du'Gall picked up his discarded reaper blade. He lifted the point under the Stormcast's chin holding against the Demon blades desire to gut the Relictor there and then.
"Why are you here? What does your god hope to find in this realm of death?"
The relictor's response was to spit a gobbet of blood onto Du'Gall's cuirass. The chaos lord chuckled before thrusting the blade into the stormcast's neck and through his spine. As the relictor's head rolled free of his shoulders he dizzolved into blinding lightning and Du'Gall turned to assist his beleaguered Chaos Warriors. The stormcast would hold their tongues, it was only fair that he remove them from their heads.

    Du'Gall Lord of Chaos
With the rest of the stormcast returned to Azyr and the Gryph hounds slain. Du'Gall gathered what he could find of his horde.
"This realm of death holds the secret to the end of the path to glory. Others covet it and will seek to stop us. They will feel the might of those blessed by Khorne. We were strong enough to survive the age of chaos, not shut up in their realm with their coward god, but out amongst the slaughter and death. We shall be rewarded and none shall stop me from claiming what I seek,"
If his men knew what he meant by and end to the path many would have tried to slay him there and then, but as things were they cheered and set out, searching for any other members of the warband, lost in the realm of death

Du'Gall felt oddly naked. His hard bought passage from the realm of fire to Shyish seemed to have come at a slightly greater cost than anticipated, His normally gaudy armour was reduced to a dull and uninteresting grey . Still he held his trusty sword, by his side since long before the Axe-Father had deigned to notice him, and his second more impressive weapon. The polearm, even if it were a mundane weapon, would have been impressive. The handle was as tall as Du'Gall himself and atop it sat a blade as long as a normal shortsword and significantly wider. The weapon however was not mundane, the deference and reluctance that the Chaos Lord held it, suggested its true nature.
I sense foes and Death here. A feast for Khorne.
The voice echoed in Du'gall's head and his vision began to tighten and redden as it spoke, kindling his fury. He breathed deeply, controlling the rage brought on by the whisperings, no whispering was not the word. While to the outside world the voice was nothing but silence, inside Du'Gall's mind the voice of the demon trapped within the reaper blade roared, screamed begging to be unleashed on anyone near and to slake its perpetual thirst for carnage and blood. Had it been wielded by a weaker man perhaps the blade's perpetual demands for slaughter would have been accepted and indulged, but Du'Gall had defeated the very demon trapped within the blade in combat before and would not succumb to the bloodlust it brought about.
Du'Gall realised he was not alone. Bulky warriors, wearing nothing but a few scraps of chain and fur bearing cleavers in their hands were approaching him. They were wary, some approaching with deference and one with obvious malice. The blood reaver swung his axe at Du'Gall's uncovered head roaring his intentions.
"Now I, Glun, will be favoured by Khorne!"
Du'Gall sighed as he shifted allowing the axe to skid off his plated shoulder. He threw a contemptuously casual jab with his left palm into Glun's sternum. Bone and cartilage shattered and Glun crumpled gurgling blood. Du'Gall looked to the other blood reavers, raising his eyebrow. They lowered their axes eyeing the corpse of their erstwhile comrade hungrily. As they began to carve Glun's body up arguing over who would get which cuts of meat, Du'Gall looked to see if any of his more trustworthy companions had survived the journey between the realms.

Du'Gall's Blood Reavers were butchers before finding Khorne. As such, they take the dark feast seriously.
A few of Du'Gall's steadfast warriors in black plate with their horned helms were visible retching or stumbling as they came to terms with the disorientation of their celestial travel. Du'Gall noticed a couple of them were looking with barely disguised hunger towards the bloodied mess that the blood reavers were making of Glun's body. Khorne's influence over them was becoming stronger. Some of the warriors however did not bother disguising their hunger, shouldering the Blood Reavers out of the way in order to claim some of the flesh themselves.  These warriors were larger than the others, their plate stained red and they had eschewed shields in order to allow themselves to move more freely and slaughter more. Du'Gall did not trust these blood warriors, he could not deny their efficacy as fighting men, however he found them unreliable. They took Khorne's gifts freely without thoughts for the future and the Khorne's path was the ruin of many a man who had claimed too much too quickly. Du'Gall's musings on his patron deity were cut short by a crack of thunder. He sniffed the air, catching the scent of sorcery and power. His reaper blade began to almost burn in his hand as it sensed the magic building in the air. Thunder boomed again as a bolt of lighting shot down leaving a figure in gleaming plate standing in a smouldering patch of grass.
