    They wont be

Why would GW release the same model twice, just in different packaging? That increases the price for *them* for no reason at all

They did that with the models from the first starter set. Put them into start collectings.

  2. So I am big happy with the new stuff, I had literally been talking to my dad the other day about wanting to see a little more monstrous vampire creatures (like vargheists) and the bat-dragon-centaur-vampire-coolkid-lady definitely scratches that itch for me! I can understand it being a bit marmite but unlike actual marmite I am loving this model.

I have also found myself surprisingly drawn to the Vyrkos as a bloodline, the new models for them look pretty sweet and I'll have to hope their rules mesh with how I like to play because I can totally see myself greenstuffing russian hats onto all my vampires and getting lots of wolves.

  3. I finalized some models with my lumineth scheme today! Definitely had some fun experimenting with colours and finding what worked nicely together, they definitely have a nice pop to them with the reds and yellows and hopefully should make for an eyecatching army!

Will have to work on bases for them when I can, planning to use the greenstuffworld greek rollers.

  4. So for a bit more of a casual-competitive local environment which of the two aelementari temples would likely be a bit more fun to play?

Stoneguard for swinging big hammers or Windchargers for speeeeed. I'm having quite a difficult time deciding where I want to begin with my lumineth but I know I'd definitely like to go heavier on one of the temples (lovely models) and of course throw in some bladelords because they're fun but I'm not sure if windchargers would be too difficult to get consistent damage out of before they die or if stoneguard would be too slow to do much of anything. If anyone has had experience with units or armies like these I'd love to hear how you found them.

(There's also the fact that I kinda prefer smaller model counts both for ££ and playing reasons)

Sadly, as the realm artifacts exist, it's not 100% useless right now. You can always give a freeguild hero the Hysh item, so it's unlikely they'll faq it.

And,  on more positive note, despite some opinions, I'd say Settler's Gain is above Misthavn, power level wise. Due to some interesting combos with Lumineth, for me it's solidly mid tier, possibly higher after new Lumineth tome comes out and we'll figure out some stronger combos.

Also, hey, all those flying steam tank conversions people made in Thermalrider days have found their home again!

Another random idea, +1hit/wound trait is not terrible for assassin general. Assassin general is a pretty, well, exotic idea anyway, but if you really want shadowbade battleline, having your mandatory assassin do 2+/2+ without any support is not the worst thing that can happen. And you can give him said hysh artifact for free re rolls of 1's, too.

See this is now making me want to make a fun little shadowblade focused force. I'm also having a lot of fun thinking about converting up a loreseeker into an assassin for it! I think for friendly local games this could be a cool idea, having lots of shadow warriors popping up whilst dark riders (and potentially dawnriders) run interference. Big mobility options for sure. I think a lot of lumineth options could go well with it, dawnriders for more mobility and chaff killing, skyshard ballista for ranged support, loreseeker for another unit to jump onto objectives, bladebringers for chaff clearing or quick surgical melee damage, wardens for having an actually defensive unit etc So definitely not a bad one to consider, even if it likely won't do great competetively it at least gives a lot of tactical play with all your popping up units and deciding where best to keep them.

  6. So the bladebringers and the loreseeker have truly pushed me into the wanting to build up that LrL box I've got and make an army XD Those models are gorgeous ❤️

I'm also pretty happy with the rules for the ballista, it looks like it'll be pretty fun to play. I may end up seeing how well I can go in my local club with a list utilising a lot of bladebringers and some other nice models put in (rule of cool!)

My favourite thing about this release has been how there's now a lot of options for list building and a few different playstyles (especially for more casual environments)

One thing I think is missing from the chariot is the Lances Charge ability from the Drakespawn Knights (rend -2 damage 2 when the unit makes a charge). They have the exact same weapon so why doesn’t the chariot get it?

Honestly I think just adding that would do a lot for the viability of the chariot, making it a good on the charge piece whereas the scourgerunner is a good shooty harassing piece.

  8. So there's an awful lot of talk about the Scourgerunner Chariots and how they can perform but I've noticed almost no chatter on the Drakespawn Chariot, is this due to it being really bad? Or simply overshadowed by the same cost Scourgerunner?

Looking at its warscroll it doesn't seem terrible for 80 points, it's attacks are nothing overly exciting but the D3 mortals on a charge could be potentially quite interesting. It feels like something that might perform better in a unit than one on its own to throw out as many shots, attacks and mortals as it can. Though a unit of 3 has quite a big footprint which is a shame but it can also benefit from the black dragons command ability aura (provided you position to get in range) I can also see a unit of 3 parked on an objective with 18 wounds and a 4+ save and big enough footprint to make it harder for enemies to get it but a scourgerunner can do the same, trading some defense for more and better shots and doesn't need a charge to put out damage.

I'd love to hear the thoughts of anyone with a much better mind for analysis than I have, the models are cool and the idea of throwing some chariots into enemy lines rather than them being portable ballista is pretty cool but I just can't help but feel that I'd be hampering myself a lot by not just making them scourgerunners and throwing out those harpoons of doom.

  9. So I'm considering for a simple fun 1k list of the following:

    1x Melusai Ironscale - General
1x Slaughter Queen on Cauldron of Blood

    10x Blood Sisters - battleline
    5x Blood Stalkers - battleline
    5x Blood Stalkers - battleline
    5x Khinerae Lifetakers

So I know heartrenders might be better for just 5 but I do not have any currently, I am also missing any form of mage but I think at 1000 points I can potentially get away without one. I wanted to focus a bit more on the Scathborn to get the most out of the command ability, likely throwing my cauldron and the 10 sisters into something meaty to really get some pain going.

  10. I'm very much hoping they'll at least be unique in some way and not just a carbon copy of an existing CoS scroll with maybe 1 additional near useless rule (though that sometimes feels more like an underworlds way of doing heroes)

But yeah I'm not saying to make them super powerful, just giving people a reason to want to take them besides just a cool model would be nice. But regardless I'm excited to see what they do and even if they end up not too great I'll probably try including them anyway because they're pretty cool!

  11. I'm managing to break my hobby haitus with some SW legion clones and now also the drusa kraeth box I picked up :D Enjoying the idea of being able to build a dark elf army since I've been enjoying them tons in total war. Planning to make a AoA hero on a cold one from spare bits because I'm enjoying sending Malus in to wreck house far too much on total war XD

I actually do expect we'll see the official Gravelords announcement.  The 'lords' in the title is too on the nose for me.  Maybe I'm wrong, and if not I won't be too disappointed since it looks like we'll be seeing a fair bit more Cursed City stuff - all three of the silhouettes on the preview look to be cursed city models, so no matter what else I'll be busy updating the Cursed City preview thread.  Maybe I'll have the energy for a separate 'Lord of the Realms' preview thread, I don't know.  The last one was fun.

We also might see the OBR warband coming for underworlds, which would be cool.

On top of everything else, the white dwarf should be out this weekend, with expanded anvil of Apotheosis rules for FEC and OBR, some narrative battleplans for a some battles between the two, and maybe some additional FEC formations.  That'll be cool, as well as being a more prominant example than we've seen elsewhere for inter-death alliance conflicts, which lends some credence to the idea that the Broken Realms campaigns may be setting up for a 3rd edition of 40k that doesn't have grand alliances as we've known them so far.  If that's the case, I may have to eat my hat on the whole 'anti-nagash' undead thing.  Which I wouldn't like, but I know some would, and it would certainly be an interesting development.

A lord of the realms preview thread would be cool!

Also I am excited to see those expanded AoA rules, I am super stoked that it looks like they'll be continuing to support it!

  13. Lightbox being busy continued this month, still not found the time to get Alarielle's base undercoated though it is fully built. So looks like this will spill into February too 😧

When I get a chance to get the undercoat done then I will see if I can also get some dryads undercoated along with it to start getting some of those painted.

I suspect my pace will continue slowly for a number of reasons at current which is a shame but I'll be sure to share any progress I do make on here with you all :)

  14. My wishlisting for my boys&girls in blood red:

-New bloodknights: Seriously... please. Plastic bloodknights. I would be happy with just this. Ideally mixed gender head options (maybe even an elven head or two, why you only get humans as vampires in aos?)

-New zombies would be cool: I like the current kit fine and I'd be dissapointed if a new kit was just all humans again. Mixed race zombies would be amazing, also I'd love to see what sort of AoS peasant clothing they gave them

-Make zombies worth taking over skellies / other battlelines: Sure they can be kinda buffed but a large horde should be at least kinda scary and not just a saveless speedbump.

-Hero corpse cart option?: For full zombie themed armies.

-Better warscroll for vampire lords: They really should be capable in combat, not just kinda squishy and mostly there for providing buffs.

-Give the coven throne and bloodseeker palaquin more support/utility options. And make those options useable! (Sorry palanquin but you aren't currently killing much to toss out your buff)

    -Fun and themely battalions

-Make Neffy and Manfred scarier: Don't care if you have to make them more expensive. Make them worthy of their mortarch titles.

-Dont nerf vlord on dragon: Please, leave my baby alone. It's fine.

-At least one subfaction focused on vampires.

-Also more vampires (like thrall foottroops or smth): I wanna be able to field a vampire heavy army, not just one on a dragon and a few bloodknights.

I rather like the vampire. Especially with it having a mace, it doesn’t seem like an overly typical vampire weapon.
I wasn’t sure about the kanga-cav initially but they’ve grown on me just this morning.

I'm pretty happy about the Mace too! It's nice to have more weapons besides swords being common :)

Now we just need more flails... maybe some jewelery chain would make an easy conversion for the vampire mace ;)

Break out the blood it’s time to party!

Also, I know this will annoy a lot of people if it doesn’t feature, but I’m rather glad it’s not Vampirates.

I feel that there was never really anything to back that up and people just lost their minds with the total war vampire coast release.

Anyway for me this is how I want my vampires, give me Abhorash and doped up Blood knights and all is good.

I'd love Vampirates but I'm fine enough converting and using cities rules for that. We sorely need good ol' soulblight proper stabby melee vampires first!

  17. So due to a busy and difficult december this little guy has slipped into January which is a shame but on the bright side he's coming along well! Got the various bits of plantlife and foliage on him to do but otherwise we're certainly nearing the end :) (just don't ask about where I am with the base...)
