Hey! I’m currently trying to convert some skullreapers. I had a spare 1st edition AOS box and I’m using the liberators legs with the Blood reavers torsos. I finally bought one box of skullreapers because I can make 10 skullreapers and 5wrathmongers this way. Here are some photos: the yellow parts are milliput. Made some molds with blue stuff and used milliput to make the tassets.
Hope this gives you some ideas!

This is a really cool idea! I hadn't thought about utilising some of the bloodreaver parts for these guys. I may look at picking up a box of bloodreavers now for some general conversion shenanigans especially for all the heads and weapons that can be used. Thanks for this! I may look at mixing and matching them a bit with another box of chaos legionnaires so both my wrathmongers and skullreapers have that same well armoured look.

  2. Given your channel a subscribe and look forward to seeing how it goes!

I think in terms of painting standards and such one thing I often find with models and such is in terms of the fact that there seems to be a lot of focus on having to constantly improve, and whilst it is great to learn ways to get better and to improve and such I think it's good to be mindful and accept when people are just happy as they are. It's a bit more a niche one and difficult for me to word but I think it links in a lot to the general need for the community to just be more accepting of non 'pro' paint jobs etc.

Personally: A focus on narrative play / casual play instead of competitive play

One of the most fun I have had with AoS recently has been me and some friends playing the cooperative white dwarf zombie horde defense mission from their last halloween white dwarf. It's players vs 'ai' in a similar way to zombicide and something we've tweaked the rules with a little bit to make it more fun but it's been a lot of fun just getting to roll dice and fight zombies with friends and as a very casual / narrative sort of game it's been great. Competitive play is great for those who enjoy it but it can bring out the worst in people sometimes and general focus and reminders that it is not the only way (or even the default way) to play would be appreciated.

Edit: On a side note I wonder if it might be cool to have a thread where people can write and share narrative / casual scenario rules etc.

  3. So I'm not the -biggest- fan of the basic skullreaper models and previously I had some fun converting some wrathmongers out of a box of Chaos Legionnaires. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for kit ideas that can work well for conversions or any possibly 3d printed proxies from etsy. I'm a big fan of converting and kitbashing or finding just generally cool and different models so I'm very curious to see if anyone has recommendations or have seen things that work well.

If I can't find any alternatives I can just use the regular ones but I'd like to see what options I have first regardless.

I think someone mentioned using him and the Gorecleaver relic to completely overcharge a lord on juggernaught which sounded pretty fun. If you were to go with the pair buffing eachother then I'd be tempted to go all the way with a Gorechosen battalion and the command trait for +1 attacks on all gorechosen. Really lean into the beatstick.

That sounds like a ton of fun. I might have to try that!

  5. So I really like the goofy looking skullgrinder and do like the idea of him (especially for only 90 points). How viable would it be to possibly take 2 of them to give each other +1 rend and get 2 gally vets for cheap or is it far better to use that +1 rend on a different combat hero? I know a lot of the gorechosen heroes in general probably aren't too useful outside of beatsticks but I do wanna consider using a few of them because I'm not used to being able to take beatstick foot heroes in my armies and it looks like fun!

  6. What are people's thoughts on how well the Claws of Karnak can slot in? I love their models but I'm not yet familiar enough with the book to know how they might stack up against our other foot troop mortal options like bloodreavers or blood warriors (warriors obv will be far more tanky).

  7. I am very saddened by the loss of ironweld after constant hopes each edition they might finally be made not awful. I am now not sure what greywater fastness is actually going to do as a subfaction unless we end up getting some new war machines or artillery or y'know... the stuff greywater used to be focused around.

I'm also super sad about the loss of wanderers, hopefully just slamming down humans and aelves side by side will work for the new units to still use the models and have them represent a unit. I'm also a little sad that there's now no point in finishing my dragon rider gyrocopter conversion or that we might be losing the luminark or hurricanum, those units always felt very 'cities' and regardless of playability they were very characterful for the faction.

On the bright side what I've seen of the new crusader infantry I quite like. Possibly some headswaps with some of the nice knight helmets from anvil industries daughters of the burning rose line will deal with the faces some people aren't too happy about and should work really nicely with the models.

More rumors, maybe just a lot of smoke. Who knows:

If the skywarden changes are true then I'm definitely going to be interested in fielding them! Always wanted to be crazy stabby balloon lancers with my kharadrons (and melee, melee is fun)

  9. So after not doing huge amounts of hobby last year besides slowly working my way through some chaos models and getting into star wars legion I have decided that as its a new year I want to kick off with a new conversion project for an army I've had my eyes on a while. And so begins my human beastclaw raiders project!

I still need to do some finishing touches to the mournfang riders (some greenstuff gaps and give them helmet plumes) but I'm quite happy with how I've managed to do so far. My next step will probably be getting another stonehorn to make as beastriders, which will involve a howdah rather than trying to precariously balance two women on saddles way too big for them.

On another note, I've not tried the new darkoath warcry unit but that seems playable for 160. No subfaction lock so you could potentially put them in cabalists to help the wizard or ravagers so that they can summon a unit after they come in from a board edge. They're a good utility unit.

For 160 they seem like a pretty fun unit and the fact their oath isn't too difficult to fulfill. Plus worst comes to worst you can just deepstrike them onto an objective or something if you don't think they'll do well in a fight (since they are a bit squishy) so I think they definitely have some uses.

  11. I cant believe they made a model of a TGA poster ;)

I am actually kind of excited for the slaves boxset, I didnt think I would be but its basically a box of the models I planned to purchase anyway. Will have to wait and see whether its actual value or not though (and if I have any money left when its due out)

    Rotmire Creed:

    M5, S5+, B6, W1

    10 Models

    Leader gets 2 wounds

    Two weapon profiles:

    Range 14", A2, H4+, W3+, no rend, D1

    Melee 1", A2, H4+, W3+, no rend, D1

    Special ability

    Virulent Concoctions
If the unit is included in a Maggotkin of Nurgle army, each time a disease point is given to an enemy unit from an attack or ability by this unit, each other enemy unit within 3" of that enemy unit is also given 1 disease point.

    125 points

They seem quite decent as a shooting unit. 2 shots each at 14" is great for chaos, and maggotkin will love fishing for disease with them. I doubt the disease within 3" will come up much but its nice to have especially when they're only 125 points.

  13. Does anyone know the height of pusgoyle blightlords? I was wanting to convert some bretonnian pegasus knights I have for a more rotting knight look but want to know how much scenery I'll need them on to match the height well enough.

Also are tamurkhans horde units / subfaction ever worth running for casual fun/ptg as I can imagine they could be fairly fun for making unit conversion or are all the units / subfaction rules for it just too bad?

Incarnate isn't as bad as I thought considering it was shoved in a £135 box and is pretty big.

£135 for Arcane Cataclysm is a real 'bites knuckles' moment, even if Lumineth stuff tends to be individually pricey, but it was only 7 months ago that Fury of the Deep was £115.

Incarnate for £35 is actually quite nice considering it's a big chunk of points so I will probably actually pick one up if it does go for that! Could use something in my StD that actually does damage ;)

  15. Put together a warscroll for an on-foot version of my slaves to darkness faction leader 'The Emberqueen'. She clocks in at 200 points in this incarnation and is designed to be used within our current Path to Glory campaign we're doing as the warband sent to ghur in her name are currently marshalling the resources to bring her into the battles!

Do you have pictures of these?

And do you know if the drukhari wyches' legs in particular, but bodies and heads also, would work with the symbaresh parts? I would like my symbaresh to have much more aggressive poses if i buy them, like the wyches do. The symbaresh twinsouls are disserviced from being dual kitted with the myrmidesh painbringers in my opinion, as they are locked into stationary leg poses that fit the myrmidesh much better unless you convert them.

I will try and grab some pics when I get home!

As for Wyches I'm unsure, I think they're quite similar in scale to the sisters of silence but I'm unsure as I don't think I have any to hand? But you could very easily use predominantly witches to make decent twinsouls. With the whole possession angle of them I think any arms being slightly larger or some such could work for that or you could take the roman gladiator route and have the whole one armoured arm sort of thing if the symbaresh arms are a bit too big to do pairs.
