Despite some of the underwhelming fighter stats, there's some really strong faction specific cards, which helps.

There's some objectives I think instantly should be considered for the cut - martyred, warning shot, shortcut (the only warband that can score this card without the use of a gambit makes it STRONG for them), supremacy - because 6 fighters, movement and the new board placement rules - and keep them guessing because of the on card action.

I think they're going to do well with a flex defensive/aggro build - passive glory gen based on positioning and movement and filling their upgrade slots with aggro cards like potion of rage, gloryseeker etc.

I do think given the inspire condition, you're going to want to look at regal vision/blazing soul for Grashnak or Draknar. Grashnak if you intend to cast any spells and Drakner to make use of the innate fury and to get access to cleave, although like many guardians players, you may decide that inspiration just isnt worth it

Lady Harrow's Mournflight can also score shortcut without a gambit.

Talking about the warband however, I'm surprised Despoilers are in the starter box. It seems a bold move to put a high skill floor warband in the starter, rather than super easy to play beginner friendly warbands like Thorns and Cursebreakers. Looking forward to them myself as I love playing Flex. A surge Our Only Way Out mixed with a 2 fighter push card that doesn't give move tokens is super fun. And the models look great too!

  2. At GW hosted events you are expected to shuffle thoroughly and allow your opponent to cut your decks, so reasonable expectation that other competitive tournaments follow the same rules. I wouldn't play at a tournament in which the TO or judge ruled your opponent didn't have to give you their deck to cut if you requested to do so.

  3. Must Haves:

Treacherous Foe, Endless Malice, Sudden Appearance, Inescapable Vengeance

From there, decide if you want to play Objective (pretty much requires you own Sep Guard) or Flex. You should be able to build a very solid lineup of ploy and upgrade cards, but you're missing the better objective card sets so you might have some trouble filling out your 12 objectives with good solid cards.

  4. Took a shot on B&N after the news broke, lo and behold Dreadfane arrived today. Mournflight are really good.  Stormcast are also good, but weaker faction cards and harder inspire mechanic. I have a Shadeglass tourney this weekend, TO said I'm good to use either band if I want. Definitely taking Mournflight.

Karsus the chained has total offense on him and uses his savage whirl ability, did the total offense count for all attacks because the card only States that he cannot be activated again

No, it only counts for the first target of his Savage Whirl. When attacking multiple targets each attack action is resolved separately so the first target would fulfill the "first attack action" portion of Total Offence.

  6. There is one upside for you. You didn't pick Ironjawz. That out of the way, most of your games are going to be an uphill slog. You will be the heavy underdog in the majority of your games, outside of the cases where someone else brings a warband at around the same power level. Playing with mostly faction cards against many opponents packing everything won't help, but luckily you picked one of the factions that can actually pack a lot of faction cards and still be successful. Are you working with any cards outside of the Shadespire core set? Post your deck and what sets you're working with and we'll see what we can do to maximize your deck.

Can someone provide critique of this list. ? I really like the idea of running 50 spiders and some big gribblies. Don’t have a game under my belt yet. Still building and painting the army but this is what I’m aiming for...

It's a very fun list. Just be aware that we're not competitive with top tier armies or even middle tier running serious lists, so if you run into those armies played by competent players it will be a very rough game for you. The only thing you should add is a Scuttleboss. Not only is it an amazing model, even being resin, but it can put out a surprising amount of MW with Monstrous Mount and the Black Fang. Other than that you should run what you want to run!

  8. I'd say a Wildwood Rangers warband or maybe Sisters of the Watch are pretty safe bets. Witch Aelves wear a helm kinda like that but I'd be surprised to see a lion in that warband. I'm just hoping for anything but Stormcast. An entire season without Stormcast would be great, but probably asking too much.

    How did it go?

2nd place to Cursebreakers. Lost 0-2 with my opponent getting off Last Chance and Rebound both games. I can live with Last Chance, but Rebound can burn.

Toxic Gases is OP. Needs to be in every deck. My opponents took the 1 damage every single time, they were afraid of what I was trying to set up with the push. My Orc opponent even killed his own Gurzag because he was afraid I was setting up Victorious Duel.

The Seek the City/Supremacy package was pretty easy to score, Blessing of Hydragos on Ironhail to set up 2 hex pushes allows him to really maneuver around the board, even if he's doing minimal damage.

  10. My local monthly is on Saturday, my main competition has proposed a day 1 challenge.  We both play one of the new warbands, no practice beforehand. I insisted we also not be able to get the models until just before the tournament, even though playing with unpainted models drives me nuts. We flipped for warband, I came away with Profiteers. So here's what I'm thinking, comments appreciated:

can you plz post your Decklist ? ;)

My decklist is pretty old now, before Extreme Flank ban, and I play a more reactive heavy risky style of Gitz. I recommend looking at the flex Gitz list from Adepticon, that's a much more standard version of Gitz, which I recommend for you as I see you're also pretty new to the game.

  12. Objective Thorns won the Grand Clash at Adepticon, with Objective Spiteclaw and Objective Eyes of the Nine taking 5th and 6th. Going for my 4th shadeglass this weekend, was thinking about finishing off the Destruction trio and trying to win with Orcs, but maybe time for my objective Thorns to come out.

  13. Objective Thorns is for sure much tougher than Relic Briar Queen beatdown or aggro/flex Thorns, but playable. For one, your opponent never suspects it and will often spend cards they should be saving for last activation, allowing you to gain an advantage first round. From there you often have them on the backfoot and they spend the rest of the game reacting to what you're doing instead of implementing their own gameplan. Then, in the second game is when you start playing your tricks. 1 and 4 are the objectives most vital to your strategy and your experienced opponents will recognize this. One of my favorite things to do is go on Guard on the objective I don't need, say 4 if I'm planning on scoring Tac Suprem 1-2. I once made my opponent burn 4 cards killing the chainrasp I put on Guard on objective 1, only to score 3-4 and Keep Them Guessing in the end phase.

Earthquake isn't really a problem, I literally never see it. Disguising your intentions is by far the best way to minimize pushes and knockbacks and of course packing plenty of your own. Sometimes though luck just doesn't go your way and your opponent manages to knockback an objective holder or has several power cards in hand you can't contend with. But hey, those are the breaks and if you're playing Objective Thorns, you're the sort of person who likes a challenge.

  14. Over the weekend I attended a monthly a few towns over, non-shadeglass, so I decided to bring Objective Thorns. 15 players attended, I finished first at 4-0 with a perfect 8 wins 0 losses. My closest game was 14-8 vs my first opponent playing Magores. My most lopsided game was 25-0 vs my final opponent Chosen Axes, who I also beat 21-2 in the second game. Pretty standard Objective Thorns minus Howling Vortex cause I can't roll a swirl to save my life and Twist the Knife over RFA because I tried to hold my upgrades for end phase unless absolutely necessary since most people run Escalation in every deck now.

Have you thought about using Keep Chopping? Seems like it would be a good fit in your deck, given the number of push cards you are running.

It was my last cut. I originally had Aggressive Defense and Keep Chopping in, cut them for Spectral Wings and Cover Ground. I felt I needed some safer options in case I lost Mollog and still had to eke out some points.

  16. Picked up my 3rd Shadeglass this weekend, this one with Mollog's. The change to his activations while inspired makes a world of difference.

    https://www.underworldsdb.com/shared.php?deck=0,330,331,334,348,354,361,N218,N441,343,N224,N499,N529,N223,N551,N504,N343,N373,N205,272,257,277,291,L24,305,271,249,234,318,N505,N506,435,N556

Pretty standard Mollog stuff really, only real Tech card was Warding Scroll as I knew there'd be a bunch of Thorns/Breakers players in attendance. Performed well too, denying Withering a few times and Howling Vortex twice in back to back games.

  17. I played a bunch of games with this warband this afternoon, trying 3 decks I built centered around Mollog and they're all garbage. Mollog is a beatstick vs the uninitiated but against a savvy opponent, you're basically a free win. Will keep plugging away but right now pretty disheartened. And I had a lot of fun painting Mollog, makes it even worse.

  18. Here's the pure Spiderfang list I'm going to try out this Saturday. I was impressed by the Skitterstrands in my last list, time to try out the Warparty variant.

  20. Wheedled the book out of my local store a day early. Yay! Pulled out all my Spiderfang in preparation for a game this weekend. I've already put a couple Webspinners from the Arachnaroks I modeled with flingers onto 25mm bases, plan on painting those this weekend.  I currently have 4 Webspinner Arachnarok, does anyone see a reason why we would need more than 2 now?
