I plan on building my LOA army "big guy heavy" IE a lot of Bull Centaur's and very little little guys. Anybody have any success with this build? I know it comes with inherent negatives such as having a hard time scoring objectives etc. etc. but I want to build the most competitive list possible as this will be my tournament list.

AKA Help me build a list that doesn't come in last!

Do you think 3-4 sets of 3 Bulls and a big set of Kdaai? 3+ Tauruk's? I have a hard time justifying the executioner herd battalion when for the same cost you get 3 more bulls to help score.

What point size will you be playing?

  2. I primed black, then sprayed leadbelcher over the whole model, washed with agrax earthshade and then again with nuln oil, painted some smaller details copper or gold and called it a day. That's what I used on all my warmachines and it gave them a oily, dirty, and used look. Theres a picture of a few machines on the table.

Thoughts on the Iron Demon War Engine? I hardly ever see it on anyone's lists. I have a line on one but not sure I need it really given my Hell & Magma cannons, other than it can add to the Magma's mvt.

It can dishout a lot of damage, is very useful for moving the magmas up since they can't run, and has surprising survivability, I've had my enemy pile on 3 units or more trying to kill it. It has a great save and is a threat in its own way, best to keep out of combat if able. I never go without it. On top of all that I'd say it was probably my favorite model in the range to assemble!

  4. So I'm looking at storage options for my Skaventide. I'm not a big fan of magnetic solutions, and like the battlefoam inserts for the Gnawholes and Skaven spells. Does anyone know what size I'd need to store clanrats with spears and Stormvermin? Also trying to figure out how I'd store a verminlord, Hell pit Abobination, 2 WLCs, 2 doomwheels, and the a gaggle of heros weapons teams and whatnot. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  5. Does anyone have some recommendations for foam storage solutions for the legion? I'm not a big fan of magnetic storage. Ideally I'd like something that can hold Draz, Skullcracker, Irondeamon, one of each artillery, Shar'tor, Chaos siege giant, 9 renders, 2 Taruks, 6 K'daii, and then ~60 little guys.

Thank you very much.  I missed it (cellphone scrolling). Time to take out the bitbox in that case :).

No problem. I'm looking to kit bash one into my dreadstone blight scenery if I can make it fit. It seems like a perfect fit aesthetically.

    Hey Guy,

new to Warhammer (again...started Fantasy back then) and totally adore the flair of the Free People. Got some leftovers from my first attempt to join the game:

    10 Free Guard (unarmed yet)
    10 Greatswords
    10 Riflers
    10 Flagellants
    10 Archers
1 General with Gun and Sigmarite Hammer
1 Warpriest with 2 Sigmarite Hammers

I am aiming for a 1000 Point army at first (was thinking to add Pistolets, really like the tactical use).

Colorscemewise I am aiming for a Marienburg financed revolutionary army in Midheim (so I got rather poorly armored guys in Blue-Blue-Yellow Feathers Uniform and more colorful well equipped Marienburg Lads in bright yellow-red-blue-white scemes, with my Officers and Generals wearing White&Blue stripes.

Now, I noticed that Flagellants and Warpriests got split to a proper faction (?!). So I am wondering whether these are still a viable/reasonable option to build an army with...back then adding Warpriests to halberds was supposedly the best thing to do.

Reading through different blogs and threats, I got a little confused as to how units are best equipped. Many say the best distance fighters are 30+ xbows and Riflers are useless. Then I read that the only reasonable thing to do with Free Guard was to equip them with militia weapons, adding a ranged attack to them? Most lists I found in here use Sword and Shield as defense line and totally ignore Halberds and Spears?

Lorewise I aim to avoid Demigryph Knights, big Guns/Artillery (though I might be open for suggestions here), Mages and those gigantic carts. I really wanted to give it the look of many weak units that get strong when working strong in detatchments and stuff...

Can you give me some feedback on my ideas and the competitiveness of it? :)

They did split up the Empire faction into subfactions when AOS came out. Just like a lot of other armies. Currently they're now releasing battletomes combining some armies back into a single faction, theres no official word yet if we'll get this treatment, but we're a prime target!

Sword and sheild or militia weapons seem to be the current go to choice for guard. But if you're not playing competitively, build whatever you want.

Crosssbows are dope, but handgunners get the long rifle which you can use to snipe commanders with its long range.

Currently the warrior priest is pretty much useless, we're all hopeful that they get updated so that they work well with the army. Currently they can only pray/heal units from its tiny little subfaction making them next to useless.

They're all cool models, I'm painting mine up since I just love the army's ascetic as well. Best of luck!

  8. Just realize that the Nighthaunt ignore rend, so the hard hitting bullcentuars are a bit less effective. Also with all their units flying, make sure you have them roll for the movements over 6" to see if they tske wounds or not. At my FLGS I often play against nighthaunt and they can be a pain. Have fun!

  9. Under Chaos add Legion of Azgorh (Forgeworld Chaos Dwarves) thier PDF from Forgeworld was updated for AoS 2.0, including allegiance abilities, battle traits, a unique spell (fireball from Aquishy spells regardless of realm) 3 command traits, 3 artifacts of power and 3 warscroll battalions. Thanks!

well the Flagellants are sold out in the US store, so someone out there is buying them.

Well with the new rumors of changes to the skirmish game coming out, with a campaign system and all in WD I personally have a set of flagellants and a warrior priest that I intend to use as a skirmish warband. They had a cool place in the world that was Empire, have cool models, but as a standalone army are terrible and have no real synergies even as allies (example is the warrior priests prayer only healing Devoted of Sigmar keywords vs order). In a small group, a witchhunter, warrior priest and some crazies seems a lot more fun!

Hi—I got 3 Renders for X-mas (yay) to use in my casual LoA army. What you guys think about using a unit of 3, or is it mandatory to have 6 and let’s say Shar’tor as supporting hero... I don’t mind dropping the extra $$$ but I my LoA is like  my fourth army so if I can avoid it I will 😉

They hit like a truck, move pretty well, and have survivability. I've run them as a part of a list as a solo entity and they can absolutely hold their own. Even when running them as 2 or 3 different units, I'll break them off to each take on an individual enemy unit by themselves. Enjoy them, they're fun to paint!

So you're going to start a resin-crack addition then? ;)

As an addict. Please please love yourself and avoid that resin crack. It started off with just a glimpse, I said oh they look cool, then years later I'm the proud owner of a Chaos Dwarf Army, but with it being my first army, the plastic crack just doesn't scratch the itch. I've gone to dark places, EBay, I've become a resin crack collector. I've seen my wallet shrink and my savings squandered, its a real problem.

With that being said, my 2019 resolution is to use all the forgeworld and GW WHFB scenery that I've collected over the last year and get it painted up with my mighty fortress so that I have a full table of scenery to play some house rules siege battle campaigns. But before that I want to finish painting my glorious free guild army so that they can defend their modist civilization.

Of course playing more and painting what I've got is a resolution, I'm sad that I haven't been able to play the Chaos Dwarves more in AoS2, but thats life. Best of luck to everyone!

One thing I've noticed, if you get the actual new Forgeworld Special Edition Daemonsmith with Pyrestaff, it comes with a 32mm round base on it.

And this guy sold in the Warhammer World store comes with a textured base in you guessed it...32mm!

Thanks much!  I've been debating back and forth on getting a BSB model.  Also, what's your thoughts on the Castellan?  From my understanding they aren't worth it.

In smaller point games the castellan has worked pretty decent for me, his command ability is nice but limited by his short movement and the abilitys range, and he's been surprisingly resilient in the games I've taken him and got into combat.

    Hey Guys!

I have a small tournament coming up this weekend and I'll be bringing my Chaos Dwarves for the first time!  Here's the list I'm looking at running.  The only other possibility I was thinking was taking out the Iron Daemon Engine, increasing the Ironsworn to 30, putting in an extra Daemonsmith, and a couple  endless spells.  What do you guys...

This is pretty much the list I've run, but with one less magma (only have 1 model). If you're looking to move things around, I've found that running at least 3 bull centaurs has worked well in the past, they give us some speed and dish out some damage. Depending on the armies you fight, having three wizards with Draz and two daemonsmiths might be a bit overkill. Draz gets two dispels, and can be quite useful. If you increase the iron sworn to 30, you might consider adding a BSB in the mix, they're pretty useful now.

Quick question: how effective is the Dreadquake? I thought it was trash until I noticed it only costs a little more than a Deathshrieker, now it looks pretty economical (points-wise, I mean).

    Welcome, praise Hashut!

I've addressed this s few times in the past, the dreadquake is one of my favorite models from the entire collection, however, it really has been disappointing on the table top.

Pros: Awesome Model, long range, and no line of sight needed. Can reroll the D6 damage if attacking units of 10+. Ok point cost. Extra defense against ranged attacks.

Cons: Only 1 attack, 2 if you successfully whip the ogre slave, then with the 4+ to hit, and 3+ to wound it seems rare to land two hits and wounds. Then you have to roll the damage on the D6 scale, which adds a lot of inconsistency to it as a whole. It sucks when you whip the slave, pass the hit and wound rolls, then only do 2 damage. Its very expensive in $ or £ for its actual effectiveness. It used to debuff the units that it hit so they couldn't run and lost bravery, but that went away.

Conclusion: I love the model, I use it in friendly games and when I need it in a list, but not one game have I been impressed with what it did in battle. If you're playing competitive, look towards the magma cannons, but running 3 magmas at your local shop or FLGS will make people hate you. Get it if you're a collector or like the model, the yearly revisions have been kind to the legion and I believe that one day it will be buffed to a level that matches its monetary cost. Hope that helps.

  17. How well does the warpfire dragon tie into the legion? I've been considering picking one up, but haven't done so yet. After a few years of wanting to pick up Shar'tor, but always talking myself out of it, I finally ordered him and got to open it and cleaned it up last night. I can't wait to paint him up!

Completely understand.   That does make more sense.  I also checked the wording on a lot of the Death rules (Deathless Minions for one) and it ends up being the same way with negating the first damage.

Here is a quick reference sheet I made for the LoA with the new rules released this summer. I don't get to play as much as I would like to due to life, and figured it would be good to have a summary of the order of battle so I don't forget units abilities. It might be of some use to new LoA players too.

I guess my big hang up is on the word "wound" in the rule.  The wounds are allocated onto a unit, then the damage is fed to one model until it's dead then bled throughout the unit.

I understand your confusion, but being able to negate a full attack out be very overpowered. Imagine a hero whose main attack hit like a mack truck, but only had one attack, it wouldn't make sense for our little servants of Hashut to negate all of that damage on the basis that its a single attack alone. If they rolled a D6 and got a 6 - we would reduce the incoming damage to 5, the roll our amulets 5 times.

This also works with our warmachines, when we stoke them and do damage to ourselves, we roll a D3 to determine the amount of wounds we allocate to ourselves, then subtract 1. So we roll a D3 and land on a 6, doing 3 wounds/damage to ourselves, but we negate the first would, and would only lose two health. Alternatively if we rolled a 1 or 2 on the D3 and only did one damage to ourselves, we could completely negate that.
