It doesn't make sense to divert resources into writing and updating rules for models which are no longer sold. There isn't any business sense in it at all. Neither does it make sense to encourage people to stick with armies they've owned since the nineties or early noughties. Part of the problem with warhammer fantasy was that the people who were enthusiastic about the game didn't buy new models.

Games Workshop are being more supportive towards legacy armies than anyone has any right to expect.

My models are new. Very new. They were in liquid form very recently.  They are just an old sculpt. It's ****** that new players are tricked into buying these models only for gw to say actually we are soon demoting you to narrative only, buy stormcast instead.

Even if everything does get moved over to legends eventually I wouldnt panic. They've done this with dark elves just after two AoS elf factions got big releases. If you liked old dark elves then you can play daughters of khaine or idoneth deepkin.

So if you have an old army don't worry because you can be forced to start a new army? This is exactly what people are afraid of.

The wolf is still a option in the normal Grot Shaman warscroll. I dont see why they should make them narrativ-play only when this option is linked to a relativly reccent plastic set.

Also, not a single faction that was part of the Grand Alliance books lost a unit with this Warhammer Legends release. This is just something GW added for the players that want to field their armies like they were in the world-that-was. This has nothing to do with the main AoS line. I dont see why you think entire armies will be moved into legends?

Before i had certainty, now i have doubt because gw said they intend to gradually remove models/scrolls from matched play. I have units in my army that are probably high on the list for the chop.

There is no grot shaman on wolf model available for sale. It's conversion only.

Im confused  at the outrage here.

GW haven’t invalidated any existing armies at all. They’ve essentially just given something extra.

Sure, they haven't invalidated anything now, but said they will - hence people are concerned their dudes are being demoted to narrative-only.

I dont think rules should have any bearing on whether a model remains available - rules can always be made better or worse. Grots are one of several factions which could do with a Dark Eldar style rework from the ground up - the plastic shaman is the only model of good enough quality to keep i think. Moonclan and Spiderfang could get away with a Daughters of Khaine style expansion, while Mork only knows what to do with the former Gnoblars!

Despite all this my preference is for a grot soup tome that includes all goblin models, like what Death got. The idea of painting 200 goblins for a new faction does not appeal to me.

But as for rumours, all I can share is that I chatted with some staff at warhammer world, trying to tease info out of them about the new grot tome, and their body language and faces basically confirmed it's incoming. (I'm probably reading too much into this)

Don't get me wrong, I got 60 plastic grots still on sprue and most the war machines. I have a certain fondness for them.

But they don't match up to todays sculpts at all. Gangly arms, large hands, mould lines out the wazoo.

I hope they're not getting reboxed... because I really think they're one of the factions that either need to be dropped or are in need of a huge overhaul.

That being said, they kept around Zombies which are just as old/bad these days... so I can only assume GW isn't too interested in redoing those ancient sculpts.

yeah i'd happily see them ditched if they weren't so useful in the army - the artillery is great, as are the bow-grots; if only moonclan archers weren't trash-tier.

Truly a shame that we lost some pretty stellar sculpts while there's a bunch of duds lying around that GW have only kept around because they want that faction to stick in the game (Eventhough I prefer regular Grots, looking at you entire Gitmob range).

Much of the Gitmob range has been 'temporarily unavailable online' for weeks. Maybe getting re-boxed?

The finecast stuff is trash, but I've grown to like the plastic infantry, even if they are a chore to assemble and remove mold-lines.

Probably in the same way that this year was gonna be "Death's year." Grumble grumble... rabble rabble...

you got a great soup tome. i would be delighted with a soup tome. My biggest fear is NOT getting a soup tome as that means new models (which I don't care about).

Hm... Last ghb pushed BCR out of competitive category and didnt power up Ironjawz to this category... I think in this year we will see 1 more punch from GW on destruction and they will post some teaser like "Oh next year will be very good for destruction"

My thinking was surely it couldn't be WORSE than last years handbook and things can only get better O.o

People citing Atia as rumour source should know that she has no insider knowledge. With Temoulon gone we are pretty much dry on proven sources that are active. So past malignants v SCE it is all very much speculation. That being said I would bet on a Khorne december-January release, given the absence of a World Eaters faction. It would have little impact on AoS (updated Hounds, maybe some new daemons).

Who needs insider knowledge when you can just Follow the Paint?

  11. I get the feeling this army is gunna be a big deal in terms of luring new players and rekindling interest amongst past players. More so than previous releases, this seems to be really pressing buttons.

Certainly closest I've been to buying a non-goblin. I really love the shark-mounted harpoon thing, reminds me of a 2-pilot jet fighter or something. And that wave-cloak dude... I hope the designers feel as good as we do right now; this is what GW does best - batshit crazy ideas that work great and look even awesomer.  I'm hyped to see what the awesome painters do with this army, e.g. that dude with the coral reef trolls, or Vince from Warhammer Weekly.

That purple moon thing....Really?  looks like a death form of a doggy chew toy.   Very disappointing model after seeing the deepkin.

My gut tells me that each lore of magic will get a model for an iconic spell. The spell will summon a physical thing that the player controls, e.g. the purple death moon moves 6'' a turn and zaps units within 3'' or whatever until killed.

Just like summoning a balewind, the summoned thing has rules for how it interacts with stuff around it.

the turtle kit has 4 builds apparently, basically like the Arachnarok (but probably with more than 1 viable option). So it might have a short range option (like the snake dinosaur) and a long range (like the laser dinosaur), and a magic build (like shaman on arachnarok), and something else.
