Anyone have suggestions on Fyreslayers vs. Shootcast?  Is it just a tough match without skewing towards it... adding extra underground Hearthguard, etc...?

Edit: For context, I am helping my Father-in-law as he is really getting into AoS.  He's competitive by nature, but a deeply good sport, so I was surprised when his first 2000pt game at a store was against someone who brought the 9 Longstrike, all shooty Stormcast, didn't offer a handshake, etc...

On paper I would've been sure my Dad-in-law had the win.  He was rocking the big Zerker blobs and foot heroes, and had a small unit of the shooter-Hearthguard as ablative wounds for his heroes.  From what he says he thinks giving up first round hurt him as the army took out well above average numbers of Berserkers, which put him on a perpetual backfoot.  No one ever got the double turn either, so it was just attrition.

Any suggestions I can offer him?  I want him to know he didn't get a ****** of an army, far from, but that there are just plain good and tough match-ups in this hobby too.

Yeah Shootcast is a tough draw for us.

I never write a list without Runic Fyrewall, also- the line of sight protection can be key for moving up your stunty foot heroes.

With what you have  listed there, I'd run the following:

    Greyfyrd Lodge, Realm: Ghyran

Leaders: Runefather, general with the greyfyrd trait and artifact ( name escapes me at the moment)

Runesmither with pray of ash and the forge key

Battlesmith with the artifcate that increases his bubble to 18"

    Battleline

    2x10 Vulkites

1x5 Auric Hearthguard, Id take them over the berzerkers to help protect your heroes and give a little shooting

other: 2x grimwraith berzerkers.  Just run your doomseeker as a grimwraith, doomseekers are hot garbage in comparison

Give one of you grimwraiths the ghyrstrike to make him 2+/2+

I'd agree with this, but use Vorstag or Hermdar lodge. Greyfyrd Command Ability is too situational and rarely worth the CP while the other two are very useful most turns- imo.

I'm going to be starting to collect the Fyreslayers kits for my KO list soon (10 Hearthguard berserkers and a Grimwrath), and I had a question. Anyone know any good way to make lady Fyreslayers? I wanted to try to include a couple. KO have bulky enough gear that I can just get a dorf lady head on there and it basically works. But Fyreslayers don't wear nearly as much so it's a bit trickier. Heroforge is an option but that's like $20+ per model.

I don't know any good proxies or substitute torsos, but my argument has always been "how do you know some of these figs aren't females? They are dwarves after all."

    How’s everyone’s list building going?

I’ll admit I’m at a bit of a disadvantage, not playing I am not sure of synergies. But from looking over the book I do wish there was something added for battleline if taken a specific hero for hallowheart.

I know I’d like to include sisters of the watch. But not sure it’s worth using a leader slot to make them battleline. With that then I would feel like I’d have to take eternal guard and keep the leader close to both units for the bonus. Might be hard to do if the tactic with sisters is to endless spell bridge them around.

I also feel like guard with shields is a pretty safe choice

what is everyone’s thoughts on battle line?

Also is anyone considering the 1/4 unit for SCE?

The battleline question has been plaguing me also. My kingdom for a Wanderers Wizard Hero.

  5. I'll probably do something like:

    Nomad Prince (General)

    2x5 Sisters of the Thorn

    1x20 Sisters of the Watch

    20 Shadow Warriors

    6 Demigryph Knights

    Battlemage on Griffon

And then whatever other stuff strikes me, with three or so endless spells to round it out. Goal is twofold, something as far from my Fyreslayers as possible, and my partner wants to paint the sisters and Gryphs

Hey all. New to Fyreslayers and pretty new to the game. Have a question about the Runesmiter and Magmadroths. I plan on picking up 3 of the start collecting boxes and have been wondering if the Runesmiter on Magmadroth is worth it? If I have my Runefather I get Hearthguard as battline, and the 2 Runesons that compete with eachother seems pretty sweet.

I guess tldr Runesmiter on foot is great, is it worth putting one on a Magmadroth instead of 2 Runesons?

I run a Runesmiter on Magmadroth pretty regularly, and he definitely has gas in the engine in certain builds (especially in Forge Brethren with the Shardfist Pelt), but if you are getting three anyhow I'd say get two of the Runesons going because they really do get quite hitty whilst showing off for one another. The Runefather hits hardest of them all, and his 3" reach makes him great for doing some damage from behind the lines, but I rarely find myself using him because I don't play Lords of the Lodge usually.

Hey thanks a lot for clarifying.

Is there any other ability of achieving the same effect with fyreslayers? Because I am almost sure my opponent stated that he was using VOSTARG lodge (and was indeed using  the run and charge command ability). Or maybe you can have more than one lodges in your army?

No, although the Lords of the Lodge  battalion allows you to tap twice with the Hearthguard unit, but there isn't another strike first mechanic in the book. Were they using an ally or artifact or anything? Or maybe i'm just drunk and am leaving serious power on the table for some reason?

Just went to the London GT with the list and made 4-1. Happy with the results. :)

was beaten by a fyreslayer. Major defeat.

major Victor against slaanesh, beasts, sylvaneth and slaanesh again.

    Griiimniiir!

Great job! Would love to hear more about your Sylvaneth game. My friend plays them and always beats the stuffing out of me.

Hi everyone. Can someone please assist? I played against fyreslayers for the first time yeterday and my oppenent kept using an ability / rune/ prayer (?) which allowed his units to play frst every round before me no matter what (even the rounds i charged his units).

I checked the battletome and also looking around on the net but cannot locate the ability. Could someone point it out for me?

    Thanks!

You are referring to the Hermdar command ability, which lets a unit of Vulkite Berserkers or Hearthguard Berserkers strike first in combat.

Fyreslayers are pretty expensive to get into- but here is the deal.

Two paths diverge in the land of Fyreslayers.

The current spam lists are basically 45-65 Hearthguard Berserkers, a Runefather, Battlesmith, and Runemaster running the Lords of the Lodge battalion. If you decide to max out the Hearthguard you won't need any Vulkites, so don't bother with Start collecting boxes. This creates 2-3 basically invincible blocks of infantry that just slowly roll across the field and dish out solid attacks in droves, one of which strikes first and twice for a measly command point.

That said, I personally find having so limiting a collection too limiting, and would suggest starting with a Start Collecting, a Battlesmith, and 2 Boxes of Hearthguard Berserkers/Auric Hearthguard. (Going to run you about 215 USD before book and forge)

If you are a magnetizing-capable individual I highly suggest doing so for the Magmadroth

-Runesons on Magmadroths are most useful in pairs, so if you want to take advantage of their re-roll to attacks I suggest just starting with 2 Start                  Collectings as you're building your way to a great Warrior Kinband list.

-I most often find myself using the Runesmiter on Magmadroth as I like to have to extra prayer with my mortal wound machine, plus, that builds towards the Forge Brethren battalion, which I personally favor.

-If you are going to build towards the Lords of the Lodge list you can't go wrong with the Runefather on Magmadroth, he is the hittiest of the three, but also the priciest and lacks that tasty, tasty, prayer.

At this point, if you take my suggestion for a more rounded selection you'd have the following.

    A hero on Magmadroth (Runeson 240-Runesmiter 260-Runefather 280)

Two Heroes on foot (Runefather 100- Runeson 100- Runesmiter 120 but allows deepstrike and has a prayer)

    A Battlesmith (140)

    10 Vulkite Berserkers (160)

2x5 of Auric Hearthguard, Hearthguard Berserkers or one of each (240) (Hearthguard Berserkers are battleline if Runefather is General, Aurics if the Runemaster is general, who you'd have to add to the list of what to buy)

    (1000-1040 depending on loadout)

This gives you a good feel of what the army does, and if you decide to build one of each from the Hearthguard box you will have one unit of all three main things in the army and you can decide where to go from there. Anyone with further questions about the Fyreslayers should post them in the discussion thread over on the Order forum or reach out to me by PM, I'm always happy to field questions about our stunty friends.

@Battlefury there is a little blurb on getting started :)

  12. I ran a non-ME 1k against Ironjaws the other day and completely wiped the floor with them. Was running Vostarg Kinband with a Runesmiter there to cast Runic Fyrewall.

Magson went off on a unit of Brutes and Vulkites rr 1s to hit, attacking three times, rerolling wounds, and adding 1 rend really tore through Ardboys, although the axe vulkites melt before a loaded Ardboy unit.

    Anyone use endrinriggers/skywardens?

How do you load them out?

Are six viable without hero support?

I bought two boxes for allies and Im on the fence about building them because KO book will probably have  warscroll changes.

    See above.

Just beginning to collect some Stunties.

I currently have 1 Magmadroth, but I just love the model so I plan to pick up another 2 and roll with a Lofnir Lodge

Does anyone have any experience with the Lofnir Lodge and how they found it went? And how does it stack up to other Behemoth based lists like BoK Tyrants and FEC

I used to and I found them super useful but then I got an idea in my head about KO Auric hearthguard and clipped them up. Especially at 100 points they are pretty useful to grab objectives and take the last couple of wounds off of heroes.

I don't know that I think Inspiring Presence is too powerful, but it certainly is really annoying and bit demoralizing.  I've seen a lot of proposals, but I haven't seen anyone mention having it double the unit's Bravery, which I think would be a good way to provide near immunity, but having it scale with the unit's Bravery and also leave them vulnerable to Bravery modifiers.

    I like this idea alot.

So what lodge are you running? I play mainly Hermdar and want to start playing Vostrag.

I play mostly Vostarg, that first turn run and charge carries a big weight in my list-writing- and their Warrior Kinband is Fyre.

Greyfyrd is my 2nd choice to grab Nulsidian and Ash-Cloud Rune, but once I pick up 2 Magsons i'll probably start toying around with a 3-Mag Lofnir Forge Brethren list.

I'll probably play with Hermdar a bit once I get my Vorstarg list right where I want it for tournament play.
