  1. I’ve narrowed my lists to two. Im pretty sure either one is good but i believe tempest lords is the play. I like guaranteeing the oneshot with LAoCD command ability. i think a stardrake may have a home in the list

    LAoCD

    Lord Celestant On stardrake

    knight incantor Azyrite halo

Lord castellant or knight heraldor and 10 skinks

    5 lib

    5 lib

    5lib

    6 cats

    extra command point

    everblaze commet

theres just 50 floating points after this i like just making a unit sequitors or emerald lifeswarm is fine

    or

    LAoCD

    drakesworn templar

    aetherquartz brooch

lord castellant or Knight incantor doesnt matter

    chamber item

    seq

    seq

    liberators

    6 kitty cats

    5 evocators

    cleansing phalanx

so we lose long range hero killing ability. Theres even a justification dropping the stardrake for a celestant prime and taking a spellweaver or heraldor but we gain sweet sweet infinite command points oh baby

so if we look at odds. In the first list we have a 33% to get at least one cp each time we spend. So when we buff our dracolines with 2 attacks we likely are gaining one additional cp for more attacks. Nice.

or in the second just adding the aetherquartz we have a 44% to get one and 11% to get two. So thats 55% of the time we are getting our cp back. Skys the limit now.

pop off kitty cats pop off.

Its a heavy price though. But i love it

personally I would swap the 10 sequitors for 5 libs and use the points for a comet (so to have some support-heroes killing potential) and upgrade the exorcist to incantor

I like this we are really lacking a way to kill backline this plus stardrake has some potential to drop 5 wound squishies. I’m worried about only having 2 threats in the drake and dracolines, but my shootcast list plays the same way so maybe it isnt a big deal

  3. So a stardrake list could look like

    tempest lords

    LAoCD

    -pride leader

    lord castellant

    -chamber item

    LCoSD

Knight heraldor or lord exorcist with azyrite halo

    10 sequitors

    5 lib

    5 lib

    6 Evo on dracoline

    extra command point

this list has some interesting play against tzeench of all things. I think a stardrake is good against them because we can eat banners if we live long enough to get there. They also have a lot of ****** small arms fire so if we can get azyrite halo off safely it could be good.

    just an idea

  4. I like the look of these celestial dracoline lists and am curious of what you all are running. Has anyone ran cleansing phalanx with them and had any success?

a list i whipped up is something like

    tempest lords

    LAoCD

    - general

    Lord relictor

    Chamber item

    -translocation

    Heraldor or spellweaver

    aetherquartz brooch

    10 seq

    10 seq

    5 lib

    6 Evo on dracoline

    5 evocators

    emerald life swarm

    extra command point

I personally feel a stardrake list may actually be better here but i love the chamber abilities a little too much and think we can get more mileage out of them instead of staunch defender

This list has a very clear and very obvious weakness, our lord arcanum dies the whole point of the list is dead but

every time we spend command point we have two 5+ chances to gain it back

we start with 3 and a 50/50 to go 4

we dont need celestial vindicators reroll 1s to hit on charge because we can just spend a command point to do it

its all about just infinitely spamming increase attack on the dracolines until you run out of command points  and then just bop em!

i mean theoretically we could take out the lifeswarm relictor and 5 sequitors and just put in another arcanum and 3 more dracolines. If the combo gets off we’ll shred em anyway i guess

i dont know i see this list as just a fun list probably not tournament viable. What do ya’ll think

what i really dislike about the game rn is that it doesnt matter how good your melee is. Sequitors, Boar Boyz, Evocators on dracs, it doesnt matter.

Us and a lot of other factions have dudes that hit well, but if youre going up against a faction that can fight first and or fight twice its an auto loss. Like how are you supposed to go up against 20 HB fight first and fight twice, or triple keeper? then also deal with the rest of their army and other summonable units?

They really screwed the pooch with this design

So there are ways around it i regularly beat slaanesh even as stormcast. Can you show a picture to how you deploy and how you play your first turn?

table set up, game type, and how you layer really matter with this.

deployment is 90% of the game. There are pretty decent ways to beat this.

we can be negative all we want and if you really dislike it you dont have to be negative here there are plenty of other great games or you can find a different army. I love the community around the game and have spent a long time helping to build it at my store. I think the game is in the best position its ever been but do agree there is power creep. But we have always figured out how to play around it.

shootcast relies on aetherwings, which you didn't list

Yes but i also said theyre one of the best units in the list. Some lists dont run them in favor of more sequitors or a bigger guy Or endles spells. Not necessarily saying its right but they are an optional piece. Just got to make sure whatever youre replacing them with is a damn good option

Also I want to use the Tauralon for once, it's a cool model. The Hurricanes are worse than Longstrikes but they are the ones I built since I'm a special snowflake. What do you think?

Tauralon is a really cool model but this list is way too far on the too much shooting side. I’ve never used him before but i think we can make it work!

The easiest answer is just unplug the evocators and plug him in but thats too boring and kinda sucks.

So if we want to be shootcast i like a list kinda like this

    aventis

    castellant

    relictor

    azyros

    2x 5 lib

    10x sequitor

3 evocators on dracoline or on foot (i like dracoline for mobility or just take 10 more sequitors but we lose mobility mortal wounds and an unbind but gail crucial board control and can drop 5 libs for whatever we want like an everblaze)

9 long strikes (you can proxy as longs OR take the hurricanes drop 3 aetherwings for an everblaze commet)

    3x aetherwings

3x aetherwings or a command point.

is it a perfect list? No. But does it effectively do what we want? Absolutely. We wind up with less magic protection from a lack of incantors  but we have 3 unbinds still. I think shootcast works fine here.

but my first instinct was hallowheart. The taurolon is really sexy there.

You can run this any way you want but adam took a cool list to cancon with some pointy ears

    Annointed

    tauralon

    celestial hurricanum

    battlemage hysh

    battlemage aqshy

    2x 10 phoenix guard

    10 darkshards

    4x 10 shadow warriors

    Whitefire retinue

    extra command point.

the troops are arbitrary here you can run a crossbow irondrake bridge list with this the tauralon just cant come across the bridge with the party. A whitefire retinue with him in it is a really good idea because he can take the mortalwounds. We do not want to run him as aventis as any item we give him will be better than aventis’s item.

Lots of good options here. Most arent competitive tournament wise, but in any local meta will be plenty competitive.

  8. 39 minutes ago, jhamslam said:

20 sequitors get tied up on the corners way too easily and having no 2inch reach on the grandmaces is really gonna hurt when it comes to damage output and pile ins

Oh i was agreeing running two blocks of 10. 20 is too big for their base size i agree ive had a lot of problems with it in the past.

  9. 4 hours ago, Marzillius said:

I also don't like the 10 Evocator unit. They hit real hard sure, but then they all die since they're made of tissue paper. 4+ save is nothing in this meta. So why even fight in combat at all since Stormcast are really not on top of it at all? Another way to play the list is to run a foot Arcanum instead and have 2 10-man Sequitor units, then you could punch away weaker units from objectives while the shooting units mop up the opponent's heavy hitters. But the Tauralon is so cool!

I completely understand with the evocators they can have a hard time against a lot of mortal wounds or things like slaanesh which can get around a chaff wall. I particularly like hising them behind liberators and going all grandstaffs letting the libs die so i can hit back.  I’ve managed to take on whole khorne ironjaw and fec flanks with that strategy. But mileage heavily varies based on list player and objective.

what i like most about them isnt what they do but what they represent. Most people have a bit of ptsd from both evocators and longstrikes often times making players attack both splitting their forces and making it really easy to deal with. Some really good players understand just kill the long strikes but then theyre ignoring our evocators and they can do some real damage.  Plus 1 more unbind and one more unit for shifting orb is  ince.

I really like the alternative of 20 sequitors it gives us more board control and roughly equal hitting power. I dont think either decision is wrong personally.

@Bozly thanks for the wonderful in-depth response, this gives me a lot of information to work with. Is it better to run the 10x Evocators or 6x Evocators on Dracolines?

Its preference. I prefer the guys on foot theyre cheaper. They come close to the same amount of damage.

A lot of times on dracoline they’ll run a lord arcanum on dracoline to buff the mounts attacks but that doesnt go great in this build because we dont have command points

Hello all, I'm new to Stormcast and in the last post it talks about the 3 different forms of shootcast and was wondering if anyone could either explain the 3 forms or point me in the right direction for those forms. Thank you

Sure its pretty cool. The one that did the best and the one i’ve had the most games with is Meighank Jha’s list. I believe he played it a few days ago at lvo

    Anvils of helden hammer

    Knight incantor

    general: deathly aura. Spell thundershock

    knight incantor

    celestial blades

    knight heraldor

    Knight azyros

    Artifact: soul thief

    lord relictor

    translocation

    battleline

    3x 5 liberators

    other

    9 vanguard longstrikes

10 evocators 5 grandstaff 5 sword celestial blades

    2x 3 aetherwings

    Geminids.

personally i love this list because it plays on a two threat system. Being high drops isnt an issue because we threaten with the longstrikes turn one. And later push up the board with the evocators buffed by their sig spell and celestal blades. While we lack command points the heraldor does help them get into position.

This is what i would consider a balanced shootcast list. It has melee threat, and still the 9 longstrikes as a ranged threat. Both are annoying to deal with and need dealt with.

BUT all our shooting is one basket so is our melee. Libs are good screen but small coverage, we have good anti spell but not a lot.  Very easy to tag the longstrike unit and its out of commission until we clean it up.

So heres the sliding scale. If this is 5 what does more shooting look like.

So we see lots of versions of this list. They could run a battalion that requires 3 units of vanguard hunters and 3 aetherwings. Aetherwings are the sleeper best utility unit in this list so more is always better.  (If you take this battalion you do not need a knight azyros)

Typically in this list we see some of the hurricane raptors to clean up chaff walls and maybe some judicators. Here’s a re-rolling 1s battle report where he uses this.

Skinks and the wood elf sorcerer arent uncommon sights in these lists as theyre cheap and do the job so we can buy more bullets. Some favor more judicators like doom and darkness

In this report we could see where 10 skinks would be a big deal to keep the iron jawz from teleporting behind him.

    OR

we can go the otherway maybe shooting is for support and not for winning despite anyone who has played with 9 long strikes know exactly how strong it is. Why not mix it up?

we see some cool lists, none that placed top 25 mind you, but they certainly look fun.

You take 6 longstrikes and potentially a unit of judicators in a list like this but we’re still anvils of heldenhammer.

now you can afford a celestant prime and shoot his hammer in the hero phase for more destruction.

how about a star drake? You get no bonus for this but hey people did it who am i to argue.

3 units of prosecutors with javelins? Why not?

(please dont buy into this one only do it if you have the models i now own 16 prosecutors because i was convinced they were good. They can be a decent chaff wall from time to time)

you can also run the, i’m about to butcher the name, skyforge battalion? Theres a whole forum post on here. Basically your protectors and decimators can deep strike 5 inches away. This is a huge deal. Build that army and use long strikes to snipe heros.

The core of a shootcast list is

    Anvils of helden hammer

some way to get rerolls 1s to hit battalion or azyros

    relictor with translocation or vexilor

     Some form of chaff

    9 longstrikes.

do whatever you want from there.

Tl:dr id recommend reading the shootcast section for more information, but heres what we typically see from the lists.

  12. So i did some compiling of lists from cancon and lvo because i had way too much free time at work.

Shoot casts lives in about 3 different forms i think we all know that. Its a sliding scale of more shooting and melee threat like evocators, celestant prime, and sequitors. Somewhere in the middle is jusicators.  But they have the same goals and in general play the same

then we get some interesting ******

there was a couple gavriel lists. They can catch out a weaker player but i personally dont like them but for those that do. Typically 10 to 20 evocators or lots of sequitors. One likes retributors.

The one i’m personally going to try out

    Stormcast

    Celestial vindicators

    Arcanum dracoline

Single minded fury, stormrage blade, azyrite, pride leader

    Castellant

    Heraldor

    20 seq

    10 seq

    5 jud

    5 jud

    6 evo dracolines with grandstaffs

This is a pretty interesting melee list with how it interacts between the lord arcanum. She can technically infinitely buff attacks on the mounts. Great list for local games but unfortunately it lacks in tournaments.

For all you star drake boys living city seems to take the cake

    Living city

    Nomad- druid of everspring

    Battlemage cage of thorns adjunt

    Drakesworn templar

    Spear of the hunt

    Branchwych

    Battleline

    30x eternal guard

    5x sisters of the thorn

    20x sisters of the watch

    10x sequitors retinue

    3x kurnoth greatswords

     Lifeswarm

I really enjoy the package of this list with 3 solid threats between the hunters the stardrake and the sisters of the watch. The magic package keeps us competitive in every phase in addition to mobility and sustain.

  13. 42 minutes ago, jhamslam said:

not really. take it from me, SCE melee is in a baaad state. Best we can do is counter attack to keep things away from our shooters.

We cant grind it in melee with Daughters, Fyreslayers, Slaanesh, or even Petrifex Elite (since theyre basically us but tougher). Not having fight first or fight twice stuff in the combat phase combined with no MW save (4+ or 5+) means your golden bois will just die

Thats kinda what i expected. Theyre guaranteed a new book here soon so we’ll see some good stuff in the future hopefully

  14. 17 hours ago, Death1942 said:

I like it but how many points is it?  The full 2K?  I love the idea of having a solid core of an army that you can then pad out to a full 2k force with a few tweaks and additions.  I think you need a chaos shrine in there as it is the kind of unit that fits into any army, especially with all those mortal units.

    The core is 1490

a warshrine is good but gets pretty expensive. Like lets say we want to go endless spells with this. By time we put in kaiross and a few endless spells or we do the gaunt summoner and a cursling so we have excellent anti magic and 10 pink horrors (which fun fact: is a 50 wound tarpit unit for free)  we’re out of points the sorcerers buff gets us just barely by

i really love the warshrine in the nurgle or khorne iterations of the list even slaanesh if its more infantry focused. But its still the opportunity cost of that vs a keeper a bloodthirster and multiple epitomes

that’s my favorite part about this book so many options are good its hard to decide whats the best. You arent really wrong with any decision

  15. I really like a strong core of

    1x Daemon Prince

    1x Belakor

    whispers

    1x Sorcerer lord

    20x marauders

    20x marauders

    20x marauders

    15x warriors

    Godsworn champions of ruin battalion

this feels like a strong core no matter what i want to run i’m curious what you all think. Go despoilers and the demon prince slaps. Solid chaff and a crunchy warrior anvil with some disruption by belakor

want tzeench? Pick up kairos or a  gaunt summoner and a cursling plus some endless spells

want khorne? Bloodthirster secrator swap the sorcerer with a lord. And add some warriors or more marauders. Alternatively drop the bloodthirster grab a darkoath queen and more marauders

nurgle? Harbinger of decay, lord of blights and a warshrine. Now your anvil is tough as hell.

Slaanesh a few epitomes and you got a potent spell casting army again. You  could also run hell striders and a keeper and itd be similar to khorne. But the fast.

Im curious to what you all think about something like this and if anyone has run this

Not true I always proxy my rook as a second queen. You have to pay 1500 for it through chessworld but I did a pretty solid conversion so people let me use It.

  17. Im new to the ogres but i was looking at the skal battalion with a hunter and some sabers. It looks like an efficient little detachment. +4 to charge baked in and the current wording lets you spam +1 atk on the sabers unit. Might be a halfway decent backline assassin unit. Curious if you guys have tried it

I like it! Is it gonna be possible to fit 5 artillery pieces, their crew, a Cogsmith and a Lord-Ordinator wholey within 6" of a Soulscream Bridge though? 😉

I mean realistically theyre just on the monstrous cavalry bases so yeah not too bad i think.

Edit: because we can consolodate a whole artillery piece onto on monstrous cavalry base or the celestar ballista base now

  19. Straight up 27 d6 shots 3s and 3s rerolling ones and rerolling the d6 for shots

just messed around a bit with druuchi. Without calculating re rolling the average amount of shots we’re on average doing 27to38 wounds against an armor 4 target. Pretty wild.

  20. Ok so. Do not take this strategy seriously but there might be some validity to it. And by some i mean like not at all.

Grey water fastness artillery company (edit: wait im not tripping) 4 artillery pieces can fire twice on the first battle round

So its like 1200 points with an ironclad or like 800 without but

5 hellblaster volley guns ~~potentially 4 With an ironclad let me double check if they get the keyword~~ dont take an iron clad

    Lord ordinator

    battlemage

    soulscream bridge.

So if it goes off you just launch 5 artillery pieces across the board and danger close right in their face.

Now this strategy requires you to roll well or else youre kinda ken boned by whatever lives but it’ll be funny.

A non thought out non scientific list would be like

    Battle mage

    lord ordinator

    drill master

    cogsmith

    runelord

    freeguild general

    freeguild guard x 10

    Free guild hand gunner x10

    ->  x10

    20-30 long beards

5 dark riders maybe take 2 groups sub some long beards

5  rootin tootin point n shootin hell blastin machine

    Battalion

    Soulscream bridge

Theyre pretty sick they put out quite a bit of damage with the volley gun. Id recommend taking company as battle line so you can make use of it but yeah its pretty good. Bear in mind its goong to get killed. One volley from it and its now a target. Protect it or sacrifice it well
