  1. As an Ogor player considering branching out to some Orruks, I just want to say this: Please, by all means, leave the Brutes at home. 😜
  2. I’m just rambling here, but I think a relatively easy fix for Mournfang would be to give them a native +1 to their trampling charge rolls. Let’s smaller units do mortals on a 5+, and if someone is crazy enough to run 8, then I see no problem letting them do mortals on 3’s.
  3. Regarding the slaughtermaster conversion ideas, I have to look at my feast of bones kit, but I’m thinking about seeing if the catapult disc part from the ironblaster/scraplauncher kit (sorry, I don’t know the proper term for that part of a catapult) and having some Gnoblars holding it up, maybe with the gnoblar holding the torch/match from the leadbelcher kit, and have “Great Wok” instead of a Great Cauldron. Will let folks know if the sizing works once I start fiddling with it.
  4. Can’t speak to the cauldron question, I’m looking for a good one too, and I think getting a second great mawpot may be the way to go, but it may be a little big. As for Gluttons, I’m going with double weapons. Mortal wounds are good, but getting them with ironfists requires the enemy to hit, then wound, then you need to roll a 6 on your saves. Meanwhile, if you charge a big block of 12 gluttons into an enemy, you are doing some mortals on the charge, then with the exploding sixes you are doing an average of 30 or so hits (more if you get the hit buff from a slaughtermaster), which averages 20 wounds. Even without rend, on a 4+ save that’s an average of 10 failed saves for 20 damage. The idea is, you want the target dead before it can even swing back at you. Also, inflicting mortal wounds is not something Ogors really struggle to do with the right units, so the off chance and bouncing something back with ironfists isn’t worth trading the exploding sixes. I would take ironfists on mournfangs, though. In that case it has little to do with the mortal wounds and everything to do with 3 attacks hitting on 3s being better than 2 attacks hitting on 4s, rend or not.
  5. So here’s a question. Abilities that involve striking first or making someone strike last usually have some extra language about how those abilities interact with each other. Alvagr Ancient (the Thundertusk trait) does not. So does that turn off Slaanesh’s always attacking first? Since it doesn’t work when the Thundertusk charges it would require some work (either surviving a turn or getting charged), but a Huskard on Thundertusk with some Yhetees could be a very interesting obstacle for Slaanesh.
  6. Probably just supply and demand. They are a good unit with the new book, they are out of stock online, and Feast of Bones sold out as well, so they aren’t super easy to come by. Also, people just jack up prices to be jerks. Look at people selling the old Ogre Kingdoms battalion for $200, and buying the units on their own only costs $145.
  7. Just wondering, if you are going for the mortals, wouldn’t an MSU style list work better? 4 units of 2 Mournfangs with Clubs gives you 4 pistol shots, then more attacks to fish for 6’s with (3 attacks per rider instead of 2 with the hackers). Being able to spread them out more offsets the shorter range of the clubs. Also, are the Gnoblars just there to camp an objective, to screen the slaughtermaster, or what? Just trying to get a feel for the list.
  8. So I’ve been torn over Ossiarch Bonereapers and Ogors as a side army while I’m waiting for the new Kharadron tome, and I settled on Ogors. I’m trading the Feast of Bones Ossiarch half for a second set of Ogors (I know it’s not a straight trade, $$ wise, I don’t care), and with the aim of putting something on the table as quickly and as cheaply as I can, I’m getting a Beastclaw start collecting and put this list together: Underguts Mawtribe Tyrant (General, mass of scars, blast keg) Frostlord on Stonehorn (metalcruncher) Butcher 6 Gluttons 6 Gluttons 4 Leadbelchers 2 Ironblasters 4 Mournfang Feast of Bones Battalion I can’t decide if I should take the Butcher artifact to refill the maw pot, or the realm artifact to make the Frostlord ethereal. Also, there are changes I could make (make the Frostlord the General, take 2 units of mournfang and one big unit of gluttons to get the 4+ mortal wounds while also rerolling charges from the battalion. For something really thrown together, this list actually looks...kind of decent? Bear in mind I haven’t played AoS in a long time, and haven’t played Ogors of any kind in even longer (I stupidly sold my Beastclaw army a while back). Am I crazy? Is this a good list, or at least a fun one for more casual games? I know it isn’t focused, half gun line and half mass of muscle to the face, but going for a “combined arms” approach with Ogors actually strikes me as absolutely hilarious.
  9. Take my comments with a grain of salt since I haven’t played BCR in 2.0. That being said, my understanding is that Beastriders don’t take a hit per se, it’s just that the Huskard is significantly better for just 20 points more. You lose the second ranged weapon and you only have half as many punches and kicks, but those punches hit on 3’s and the prayers really help, which leads me to my second point: After what seems like a long time of kvetching about Thundertusks, it seems like people have finally learned that just doing 3 wounds to it starts dropping the effectiveness fast. The healing from the Huskard (or even better, 2 huskards) helps mitigate this.
  10. I agree with you on all of this except for Aventis. That dude gets the following over a normal Lord-Arcanum on a Tauralon: +1 mount attack 5+ mortal wounds on enemies that wound him in melee heal one wound a turn Cast and Unbind 2 spells instead of 1 A spell that is either better or (at worst) a sidegrade A command ability that is more universally useful All of that for only 20 points more. You don't get to give him a command trait or relic, but you don't have to make him your general, and to gain the benefit of his command ability you have to be Hammers of Sigmar (or use it on himself). I really do think he is a straight upgrade across the board for the generic Lord on Tauralon.
  11. I'm not sure if this was quite a rage quit, since I hadn't really played much 8th edition at all and I bailed before The End Times. My spidey sense was going off like crazy that these super expensive books and minis wouldn't be worth having within a year and a lot of it felt like a cash grab. Beyond that, as a loyal servant of the true Phoenix King, making Malekith the "real" king all along made me nope out of that nonsense. I also didn't have the time or disposable income to keep up with it anymore. So I gave my high elf army to a friend who wanted to get his wife into the game, and I had long since taken to barter town to trade my old Chaos and Skaven for Warmahordes stuff. When AoS came out, I was deep into X-Wing and Armada was piquing my interest, and the rules and setting seemed like a bad joke. I pretty much swore off all GW, even shelving my Dark Angels that I had been playing since the 90s (losing significant chunks of my minis over the course of 12 years and 4 moves didn't help). Of course, I had also just finished my second year of law school, so time and money were at a premium. I stuck with X-Wing for a while, until I had a couple of revelations. First, while X-Wing was cheap on a per model basis, I was buying multiples of each ship released just to get upgrades, so the cost was deceptively high. Second, the game had gotten stupidly complex and geared towards a lot of min maxing, especially in competitive games. Third, if I liked X-Wing for simplicity and the ability to get a quick game in, why was I ignoring AoS? Then a few more things happened (listed in no particular order). Blood bowl, I finally read the generals handbook, and I saw steampunk Dwarf Sky Pirates on the shelf at my FLGS. Meanwhile I had picked up the Runewars core set. Now, if I'm committing to at least attempting to get back into the hobby side of things with modeling and painting, why in the world was I sticking to sub-par minis? So on a whim I started reading some fluff and bought the generals handbook and the Kharadron battletome. Ok, this is cool. This is REALLY cool. Turns out Kharadron aren't really for me, but I will definitely build up a small force at some point. Instead I am now working on Stormcast Eternals and also plan to put together a Sylvaneth army. The Anvils of the Heldenhammer are a godsend (no pun intended) for people who want a link to the old world and a paint scheme that isn't ungapatchka. Anyway, GW has apparently renewed their lease on my soul between AoS and now 8th edition (although it's time for a change there, I'm thinking Blood Ravens) on top of the return of specialist games. So here I am, back again and proud of it.
