  1. I finally got my Khalibron / Shadow Patrol list to work. Took on Blood Knight heavy Legion of Blood (I think) in Knife to the Heart. I played cagey the first turn, put some wounds on a VLoZD. My spell rolls were hot garbage, either failing or unbound. This turned around later in the game which was critical. He got into my Life Takers and Blood Sisters with 30 Dire Wolves, VLoZD, and some Knights. I was able to jam up this attack a little with combats and Gravetide while my General and 5 Blood Sisters teleported to the corner behind his objective which was being guarded by 5 Dire Wolves and 5 more knights. Geminids, Withering, and good charge rolls with my Medusa General and Melusai were able to capture his objective, winning me the game on end of turn 3.

This has been a fun army to play but hard to learn. Very excited to continue to keep figuring them out.

Medusa - Crystal Heart, The Withering

Medusa - Wisperclaw of Judgement, Shadow Steed

    Hag - Catechisim of Murder

Hag - Prayer that counts the turn one forward

    10 Blood Sisters

    5 Blood Sisters

    5 Blood Sisters

    15 Khinerai Lifetakers

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Warlocks

    5 Warlocks

    Shadow Patrol

    Geminids

    Gravetide

  2. I had my first DoK game last night (finally)!

My army played the mission with the stepped deployment areas, I forget it's name, against one of my regular opponent's Idoneth Deepkin. It was brand new armies for both of us so mistakes were made, but it was an exceptionally close and fun game! My list was a rough match up for him. I didn't have many models which were good targets for his Thralls and I was running Khalibron Temple, so his 30 odd Reavers across the army had trouble doing much to my forces.

He had: Eidolon of Magic (or whatever the caster one is called), 2 or 3 soulscryers, 3x 10 Namarti Reavers, 3x 10 Namarti Thralls, 2x 10 Gladeguard allies (I think - Aelves with shields and spears).

I had: Medusa (Mindrazor, Mistress of Illusion, Shadow Stone), Medusa (Steed of Shadows), Hag (Catechism of Murder, Iron Circlet), Hag (Blessing of Khaine), Assassin as an ally. 10 Blood Sisters, 2x 5 Blood Sisters, 10 Khinerai Lifetakers, 5 Khinerai Lifetakers, 10 Khinerai Heartrenders, 5 Khinerai Heartrenders, 2x 5 Doomfire Warlocks, Shadow Patrol, Malevolent Maelstrom.

All the teleporting I had going on was giving the Idoneth fits as I was able to get on objectives fast and dictate combats. I made some errors with placement of support characters so missed out on some buffs in key areas. I did an assassination run on the Eidolon which got him down to 2 wounds, but I couldn't seal the deal. That cost me the game in the end I think. He pushed hard on two objectives that I held, was able to tie up the game in the 3rd turn. By the 5th there was very little on the board, and he was able to squeak out one more point with the Eidolon jumping on my rear objective. Super close, fun, tactical game!

I love this list. I may tweak the magic artifacts a little, but I think I could play it as is for quite a while and get a lot of mileage out of it.

  3. I have to tattoo, onto my arm, that mortal wounds don't generate depravity. That was something I missed in some of my theory-hammer. Not a dealbreaker at all, but easy to miss. It sure makes the Sorcerer Lord on Manticore less appealing (tho he's still a bad ass).

I've found a pimped up Exalted keeper generates the most, so long as you put it against other big things. I expect to see between 30 and 50 points in a standard game.

30-50! Holy ******! That is fantastic.

I was simulating a particular KoS build vs Nagash which generated an insane amount of points which was cool.

Maybe Invaders could be changed to do something meaningful, like give 2 extra command points at the beginning of the game. While they're good, it feels like our abilities are sparse compared to Battletome armies - they could do with just a little bit extra.

Invaders is the only one that has no traction for me. I love the Pretenders and Seekers ones and have a very tough time deciding between them. Invaders having 3 generals, but maybe with more CPs would be cool. I like the 12" boundary rule with them. Its interesting and very flavorful.

  6. Looking at the Slanneshi rules in GHB2018 more, I am hoping they don't change a ton. I really like them. Some modern Battletome additions like spells, additional artifacts, and maybe some new & updated units would be sweet, but I kind of hope that the summoning, traits, and allegiance ability don't shift too much.

From a narrative perspective I could see the allegiance ability changing if Slannesh is found and released. I kind of like the imprisonment story, so I hope that sticks for a little. Its interesting and has a cool take on how that affects the rules with the 3 different play styles.

    Only time will tell!

  7. I like the theme of the Depraved Drove a lot. It reminds me of the cycle of inspiration and dissapointment many of us feel when starting a new army. After we’ve despoiled the plastic, we venture off, self-loathing, to find new little soldiers to slake out thirsts. ;)

What were you thinking of using from Beast of Chaos? I'm toying with the idea of:

    • Great Bray Shaman - A cheap wizard. Devolve seems interesting, however in practice I've found it hard to setup right. Movement buff pairs well with the other units I have in mind.
    • Beastlord - I suspect the entire design goal of the battalion was to maximize your odds of using the beastlord's command ability.
    • Centigors - Seeker level speeds on an even hardier chassis for a cheaper price. Pairs quite nicely with seeker host and Bray-Shaman movement buff.
    • Tuskgor Chariots - I mostly just want some more chariots, ha! This is among the cheapest options for filling out the battalion requirements. Probably not as killy as slaaneshi daemon chariots, but I tend to use my chariots more for gunking up enemy movement anyway.

Honorable mention to the Shaggoth. He's a big beefy hero who is able to heal himself. That makes him an alluring option for farming as much depravity as possible. The doombull isnt bad either, but I think he'd be better if I was considering taking more warherd.

Lastly, don't disregard the battalions bonus of being one drop and coming with another artifact!

What does the Slanneshi beast battlion do?

  9. I agree with your interpretation of the banner's rule. I just think that inside of the wide design space of AoS, people are given the opportunity to misinterpret that rule. The inconsistency aggravates this.  Whatever, GW's rule writing style is well trodden ground.

The Slannesh DP's special rules are pretty slick. Its disruptive and provides something that nothing else in the force does. I'm looking forward to trying one out.

  10. What’s the deal with Demon Princes? Its like laws of probibility bend around them or something. Is it because I refuse to spell Demon ‘Daemon’?

The wording on the Hellstrider’s Rapturous Standard is fuzzy. ‘Any’ standard causing -1 would be clear. ‘Each’ standard causes -1 hit would also be clear. The way it’s currently worded seems like it could lead to annoying English/logic debates at the table. Maybe they’ll clarify it in the Battletome when that drops.

I wonder if the Chaos Lord of Slannesh will change in his rules, because currently he’s AMAZING!

So my first start collecting box arrived this morning!

I've been trying to work out what i can build out of it to get the best value for money; so far I've penciled these units:

10 daemonettes (i need them, and you can't do much else with the models anyway)

5 hellstriders with hellscourges (using the seekers, arm-swapped with herald whips and adding some spare shields)

4 heralds on seekers (chariot seekers and riders, fully glammed up with in-box cool stuff)

1 chronomantic cogs (using chariot blades and greenstuff)

That still leaves 4 heralds/alluress (aluri? aluresses?) on foot, a bunch of blades, and the chariot chasis. I feel like I should leave some heralds on foot unbuilt for future conversions depending on what the battletome gets, though.

Using the chariot parts to make steed healds is a great idea!

I did some modifications to the Yncarne from 40k myself. Added a large demonette claw (from a seeker I think) some demonic stuff protruding from her etc which I think works well. Definitely has a good slaaneshy vibe.

Here's the only photo I can find of her. I should try and get a better one.

    Idea = stolen. :D

I have a question about the exalted chariot too; seeing as mortal wounds don't generate depravity post faq, is it worth taking still?

Or should i kitbash it into an Ophanim made of spinning razorblades and use it as my keeper of secrets? ?

I didn't know the thing about Mortal Wounds, but it still has the potential to generate a lot of damage and take it which sounds like what you want. That being said, your conversion idea sounds amazing!

Hey guys, to expand my Slaanesh demons (atm 500 points), I´m thinking about adding a daemon prince (Additional to more seekers and daemonettes). I´d like to make the prince a princess. I guess the lower half fits okay, and I´d do some bewbs from green stuff, I´m looking for some ideas to add a female head. I searched through a big bunch of GW´s models, but haven´t found a fitting head. Has anyone an idea for an affordable head?
I also checked some third party models, but I´d rather keep it mostly GW based.

    Thanks in advance

I was thinking about this sort of thing too. Demon Princesses are a fantastic unit for a force. Maybe check out Reaper Bones? I think some of their models are a bit bigger scale which would help and they are inexpensive. Alerial(sp?) could be a good source for parts too, but that is an expensive conversion.

I may go full freaky and give my DP a monster head of some sort or another.

Seekers can run and charge - they're the fastest unit in AoS - so they're meant to be squishy hunters. Unfortunately, I think we pay 120pts for their speed alone - they do nothing once you get there unless you're against a 6+ save. They need some sort of combat buff, or at least a spell/ability that would make them better in combat.

Oooohhhhhh baby! I missed that last line!
