  1. I finally got my Khalibron / Shadow Patrol list to work. Took on Blood Knight heavy Legion of Blood (I think) in Knife to the Heart. I played cagey the first turn, put some wounds on a VLoZD. My spell rolls were hot garbage, either failing or unbound. This turned around later in the game which was critical. He got into my Life Takers and Blood Sisters with 30 Dire Wolves, VLoZD, and some Knights. I was able to jam up this attack a little with combats and Gravetide while my General and 5 Blood Sisters teleported to the corner behind his objective which was being guarded by 5 Dire Wolves and 5 more knights. Geminids, Withering, and good charge rolls with my Medusa General and Melusai were able to capture his objective, winning me the game on end of turn 3.

This has been a fun army to play but hard to learn. Very excited to continue to keep figuring them out.

Medusa - Crystal Heart, The Withering

Medusa - Wisperclaw of Judgement, Shadow Steed

    Hag - Catechisim of Murder

Hag - Prayer that counts the turn one forward

    10 Blood Sisters

    5 Blood Sisters

    5 Blood Sisters

    15 Khinerai Lifetakers

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Khinerai Heartrenders

    5 Warlocks

    5 Warlocks

    Shadow Patrol

    Geminids

    Gravetide

  2. I had my first DoK game last night (finally)!

My army played the mission with the stepped deployment areas, I forget it's name, against one of my regular opponent's Idoneth Deepkin. It was brand new armies for both of us so mistakes were made, but it was an exceptionally close and fun game! My list was a rough match up for him. I didn't have many models which were good targets for his Thralls and I was running Khalibron Temple, so his 30 odd Reavers across the army had trouble doing much to my forces.

He had: Eidolon of Magic (or whatever the caster one is called), 2 or 3 soulscryers, 3x 10 Namarti Reavers, 3x 10 Namarti Thralls, 2x 10 Gladeguard allies (I think - Aelves with shields and spears).

I had: Medusa (Mindrazor, Mistress of Illusion, Shadow Stone), Medusa (Steed of Shadows), Hag (Catechism of Murder, Iron Circlet), Hag (Blessing of Khaine), Assassin as an ally. 10 Blood Sisters, 2x 5 Blood Sisters, 10 Khinerai Lifetakers, 5 Khinerai Lifetakers, 10 Khinerai Heartrenders, 5 Khinerai Heartrenders, 2x 5 Doomfire Warlocks, Shadow Patrol, Malevolent Maelstrom.

All the teleporting I had going on was giving the Idoneth fits as I was able to get on objectives fast and dictate combats. I made some errors with placement of support characters so missed out on some buffs in key areas. I did an assassination run on the Eidolon which got him down to 2 wounds, but I couldn't seal the deal. That cost me the game in the end I think. He pushed hard on two objectives that I held, was able to tie up the game in the 3rd turn. By the 5th there was very little on the board, and he was able to squeak out one more point with the Eidolon jumping on my rear objective. Super close, fun, tactical game!

I love this list. I may tweak the magic artifacts a little, but I think I could play it as is for quite a while and get a lot of mileage out of it.

Questions 1: I am hesitant about the harbingers effectiveness in this list. I can decide if he is worth it or if I should take an extra 5 blightkings....? Being able to take the witherstave is kind of the tipping point for me to keep him in. Also because I would waste the second artifact.. That and I spent a butt load of time on a kick a$$ conversion >_<

Questions 2: With 80 points leftover should I take a 20/30 point endless spell +1 cp (shackles, palisade, or malevolent maelstrom - avoiding the swords as I am chaos) or a Plague priest. Here is the list..its pretty basic I guess.

A1: Witherstave is worth keeping a character in there with it. Chaos Sorcerer Lord? Harbinger is pretty cool, but other options are cool as well.

A2: Palisade + CP I think would be best.

Well, yeah. I don't think it's competitive, but could be fun. I currently am a kind of "first hit's free" kind of guy at our local GW. I play a lot of noobs so I think it's list that would show a lot of the different demographics of the game. I'm afraid that it may even be a bit too strong for that role, what with all those drones.....

It certainly looks fun. I like Sumptuous Pestilence on the Verminlord a lot, his mobility and base size really give that spell some punch. The Chaos Warriors have a tax feel, but I get why you went with them. I've been liking Plaguebearers in small units to act as chaff. In the right build it isn't hard to get them where you want them. Summoning seems very legit with this list. The additional Contagion points can go pretty far.

I can't find any mention of this,

However "look out sir" only requires that the hero unit be within range of your other units to get the effect. So it stands to reason that yes our Cauldrons and Shrine do get "look out sir" protection. Think of it not as the whole shrine/cauldron dodging but the units standing upon the structure.

<8 wounds sounds like a 40k thing. I think the only limitation to Look out sir is 'Monsters' keyword.

  6. I had better than average luck with the Plaguedrones at Midwest Meltdown. I still find getting a decent amount of members of a 6 demon unit into combat difficult. I've been thinking about running a sort of MSU build with them. I have enough to do 4x 6 Plaguedrones which could be cool. I've been in good shape to have extra CPs in most games, so giving two or more units Grandfather's Joy is feasible when needed. It kind of insulates them from getting wiped out by a good charge by enemy units too. The most I should lose is 3.

Has anyone tried a build with multiple 3 packs of Drones? What were your experiences like?

Spamming is gone everywhere, but Glottkin and GUO can still be stacked.  It's a win for Nurgle.  Yeah, it's expensive, but 2 models we love to take anyway.

I'm pretty happy about the change. While there are times I'd love my drones to have +5 attacks, it just isn't a good game experience. Eventually you are taking something similar to the face... no fun.

I'm thrilled that the GUO can still use it's command ability several times a turn. Giving 2 or 3 demon units +1A each is appealing in certain circumstances.

  8. My take away from the weekend's event for my list is that I am too dependent on magic. I ran into several opponents who had very solid magic defense. My dice also betrayed me a little. I think I got Blades of Putrefaction off about 5 times in 5 games. Foul Regen was another one that was tough to make happen. I think that I will keep investing in magic, but I'll have to count on it less for making hammers happen. If there is Arcane ruins around things tend to work a little better, but that is a long shot.

Witherstave. That thing is worth its weight in gold

I love it so much. I took it on the GUO at Midwest Meltdown this weekend. I wrapped him in 30 Plaguebearers,  which also had the LoB's command ability on them. -2 hit in combat, re-rolling 6s was huge.
