Agreed except for the Made to Order. I miss those. The Made to Order, Slaanesh Daemons is the reason I started my Slaanesh army last year. Even if they want to move on from whfb some of the models still have value to me, and always will have. So why not offer them? even without rules there are some models I would buy. It's pure sentiment they are offering. To me just as good as something new. But that's of course personal.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Made to Order. Likewise wish they'd do it a bit more, and not necessarily related to 'faction of the month'.

I just remember there was at least one occasion where the only thing on pre-order for the week was Made to Order. Stuff you weren't going to get for a month anyway while they take in the orders and start printing them out.

Anyway, back to rumours. A bit disappointed that the Order herald is a Stormcast, but not surprised. They are Sigmar's chosen after all, and it makes the most sense. The only other thing that would've made sense is a model to be tied into a new faction release (like Light or Shadow Aelves), but since they're probably not on the immediate horizon I guess we'll live with a Stormcast.

That being said, I do like the model, and interested to see what his rules will be in game.

  2. What I find good though is that it seems the Nurgle release will be done and dusted in about 2-3 weeks. It won't be dragged over the entire month of January, which means there's plenty of time for goodies to roll in.

One of the things I was particularly disappointed in last year were 'no release' weeks. What I mean by those are weeks devoted entirely to stuff like Made to Order, Skirmish coming out with boxed sets, allies sets, etc. Those weeks didn't have any new models come out at all (and sometimes multiple weeks in a row), and while a good boxed set bargain is good, it's not new content.

So I'm hoping they churn out the models from week 1 next year.

  3. Personally @Nielspeterdejong I feel your points costs are definitely on the 'too cheap' side for the most part.

There's no world in which Grail Knights and Questing Knights should be cheaper than Dragon Blades (Which IMO are already priced quite competitively). They have a far better attack profile due to having inbuilt rend, and that's before any of the kickbacks kick in.

I have no clue about the characters, but I suspect that the King on Hippo at 280 points is too cheap compared to a General on Griffon. Sure, the King lacks 3 wounds and the attack profile isn't as great, but what you are getting is a lot of utility around healing wounds, unbinding, re-rolling hit rolls, re-roll saves of 1 on charge, and ignoring battleshock. Especially if you add on allegiance abilities (that don't necessarily overlap with every banner option in the list) the battleshock immunity could be quite key.

Personally, when I developed my own homebrew Bretonnian allegiance abilities, this is where I landed:

I think the above points would be quite fair with the Order allegiance abilities (Although of course, there's room to tweak. It's hard to judge some of the characters for example and sadly a lot of banners overlap with the generic Order trait anyway). That's before you put the icing on the cake of actual Bretonnian allegiance abilities which will be better than the generic Order stuff.

  4. Only took me just over a month, but since I finished Steelhearts Champions today figure nows a good a time as any to post up my warbands.

The Bloodreavers were really fun to paint honestly. Each Reaver has a different skin recipe which is definitely something I wouldn't be doing working on an entire army. The only thing I'm unsure about is the black helmet on Arnulf, doesn't quite seem to work and thinking I should've stuck with the red on that one.

My favourite is definitely Targor though, just love his pose and he was the first one I completed. Runner up would be Saek since I enjoyed blending the skull masks back into the black and think it came out really well.

Steelhearts I kinda smashed out in the last day or two. Really needed to get them off my painting desk so I can refocus on getting my Free Peoples army ready for a tournament in a month.

I am really meh about this glut of Special Characters. Why not just make a generic Sword and Shield Celestant, to give players at least some customization of their characters?

Seriously, the lack of equipment customization on characters is one thing I dislike about AoS. And I never liked special characters anyway (remember when Vandus Hammerhand had just the same rules as any other Lord Celestant? I miss that)

Bit of topic, but I am very glad so many Tomb Kings units make it into TW:Warhammer. By my count, only the Necrolith Colossus, Ushabti with Bow and Tomb Herald seem to be missing. And the Hierotitan looks ace and I think not a lot of people where expecting it. All in all, looking really good.

Absolutely agree. There's not even something 'extra' that disginguishes him as a special character, it has generic hero written all over his rules. Even Vandus and Khorgus Kul got upgrades when they got special character warscrolls.

Super disappointing, I really don't get it. If they want him to be a special character, then give him special rules and make him stand out.

Do you believe that those Shadow Elves coud "leave" the Grand Alliance Order to another one? Death? Chaos?

    An interesting thought!

Here's a question to ponder on. Have we actually seen any artwork of Order fighting Order? I would guess no, because at the moment they're led to be the 'Unified heroes fighting back'. The reason I ask the question is, we've seen artwork of tentacled beasts and the like attacking Kharadron Overlord ships, and the common thought is that these beasts may be related to the 'Shadow Aelves' or Cthulu .

If they are truly part of a different alliance though, I'd much rather Death than Chaos. While the Cult of Slaanesh is definitely cool and interesting, it's been done before. So I'd like to see perhaps some Aelves (perhaps Malekith even) have made a pact with Nagash to prevent Slaanesh supping on their souls. Of course that being said, we don't really know what's going on with Slaanesh, who knows, maybe more will be revealed in the new year to go along with it.

That being said, I probably wouldn't put any money on the Shadow Aelves being non-Order. It doesn't really make sense when you've got factions like Darkling Covens and Daughters of Khaine running around inside Order (Who would also be prime allies candidates for Shadow Aelves).

  7. Hmm... So what I think people are potentially overlooking is that Order has been long rumoured to also have a 'dark side' coming, that being the Shadow Aelves.

The Dark Aelves have never really been traditional good guys (or really, good guys at all to be honest!). So I think the Shadow Aelves probably fit right in with the Malign Portents. Also is it a potential hint that they state the logo is 'gloomier' which is synonymous with shadow as well.

To be honest, given how long the rumour engine pics have been around for the Shadow Aelves I wouldn't be surprised if they're one of the big releases in the first 3 months of the year. Which makes me wonder if yet again it's going to be a front loaded year for Age of Sigmar (Given we have rumours of Nurgle, Shadow Aelves and at least some form of Death).

    Overall bring on 2018!

  8. Sweet looking Stormcast.

I'll be sure to post up a picture once I finish my Garrek's Reavers. Currently just the main man Garrek himself (The other main man Saek I actually painted 2nd, as when I started painting them I hadn't actually played or read any of the cards).

So just Garrek and all their bases to do, so close yet so far.

  9. This is the one time of year that I don't mind we're getting a 'new Stormcast' model. I mean, it's December, generally we don't expect much in terms of new model releases and the like during December. So a one off Stormcast doesn't fuss me, they're the poster boys, and GW wants to sell models going into Christmas, so makes sense to release a new model that'll sell like hotcakes.

For similar reasons, I'm not super fussed that 40k is getting attention. We already knew that 2 new codexes were coming out for 40k, a little surprising they're getting models, but it is what it is. I think it would've been super nice to see a battletome for a faction that can be bought across 'as is', say Free Peoples, Gutbusters, Greenskinz or something like that, but perhaps that ship has sailed with AoS.

Perhaps that's just me 'accepting' fate that the back half of 2017 is disappointing, and just accepting it.

As to the actual model. Not really a fan, hoping it comes with a helmet version because the whole brick faced stormcast don't really do it for me. But given it looks like the hair might actually be moulded into the shouldpad, not so sure that's the case.

  10. Interesting, Xoantica definitely sounds like old school Lizardmen (or new school Seraphon). Wonder if it's a hint that they're not just the imaginations of Slann as proposed (or potentially imaginations run wild).

City of Secrets was cool, but way too short. Need me a proper meaty Witch Hunter novel.

I believe the loser chooses a board, the winner then chooses a board and lines them up how they wish. The winner gets to decide if it will be short or long edges that are touching and how much they will touch. the loser then gets first placement of objectives. I have the english version and was playing it incorrectly up untill last week!

Yeah, I'm a little surprised that so many people are playing it wrong (myself included). The first game I played, my friend pointed this out, and basically got overruled by the GW store manager (even though it's quite clearly printed that way). Will definitely be playing it correctly in future (Although, in the 2 games I've played so far, it's not as if we've had a huge amount of room to configure the boards anyway).

    3 hours ago, Killax said:

"Loser" places first board but also first objective (ending up with 3).

I really don't think the terminology 'places' should be used here. The loser just chooses a board, the winner gets to place both boards on the table in such a way that it meets the requirements (grids line up, at least 3 hexes).

I thought Gotrek became one of the Dwarf gods?

Well, I haven't read the later few books, but I definitely thought he was supposed to be the reincarnation of Grimnir or something.

The same Grimnir who has made his appearance in AoS, and gone and fought a big huge godbeast before being shattered into a million shards of Ur-gold.

So I dunno? Does Gotrek even make sense in that respect?

Either way, I'm sure they'll come up with their own way to spin it. I just don't know if it was really necessary to bring Gotrek into the mortal realms. Plenty of other stories to tell.

    8) Audio drama / 4 CD set about Gotrek in the Mortal Realms !!! (but without poor Felix)

    umm... what?

Like, I love Gotrek and Felix (or at least, definitely used to), but I really don't get this. Bringing back Old World characters just... feels weird. It's bad enough that they kept the Mortarchs around on the basis of 'Nagash remembered them into existence, and they're well... Undead'. Or Kroak for that matter, who was definitely destroyed in the End Times. Next it'll be revealed that Karl Franz is actually the leader of the Free Peoples as a way to have it make sense that some of the Free Peoples iconography has Karl Franz on it.

Dunno, I guess we'll have to wait and see. But I'd prefer to see more original characters of the mortal realms, even if it's a similar style book to Gotrek and Felix (buddies not-buddies roaming around the mortal realms).

Is this a thing? Have they been an army in the past? Most 40k isn't my bag but from the bit of reading I've done on the fluff this would definitely be my army if it was a thing!

Is there any chance this could be for LOTR? Any rumor engine precedent for that? They do seem to be rebranding it to the "Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game" with next month's 'Battle Companies' book, maybe some more LOTR in the pipeline?

I do think it's most likely AoS though. Now this just has to be aelves this time, right? You know what they say about broken clocks. Or I am just a broken record?

I don't think it can be Lord of the Rings. The Rumour Engine (as far as I'm aware) has only been for releases done from the main studio. LOTR is now handled exclusively by Forgeworld.

As for the rumour engine image. I don't see it being a Death thing, the arrows or bolts, whatever they are look a bit too clean for Death or Destruction. The metal work on the quiver leads me to think it's some fashion of Dark Aelf (Shadow aelf or otherwise), or it could be something Chaos as well (Potential Darkoath stuff?). I'd probably guess Shadow Aelves though, as I guess in theory we should be much closer to that release since we've had the little serpent on hand rumour forever now.

  15. I don't have the experience to comment on whether the negativity is well founded, but I do think there are 2 upcoming expansions which will provide greater insight as to how well the Bloodreavers will do.

The first is the Skaven release. Why is this important? In theory, the Skaven should operate somewhat similarly to the Bloodreavers. Lots of numbers, weak attackers, and fast to move around. The neutral cards therefore will likely offer more to the Bloodreavers which feel similar, than perhaps to other warbands.

The second is the Khorne Bloodwarriors release. We don't know how far off that is, but my understanding is that we'll be able to use almost all the cards in that set (apart from character specific upgrades). Basically I understand that any Khorne card will be able to put in a Garreks Reavers  or Magores Fiends deck. This could come with some powerful Khorne themed cards to help the Reavers out.

  16. So personally, I was a bit disappointed at the lack of content shown, but I'm over it now and looking back it probably makes sense with how much they have shown.

At the end of the day, IMO, I feel that 2017 was a bit of a let down. It started really strong and exciting, but Kharadron Overlords was basically the pinnacle, with a crest when the GHB 2017 launched. But apart from the two characters in blight war, there hasn't been a single model released for Age of Sigmar since April. And I'm sure that's in part due to 40k new edition, but it's still disappointing none the less.

So... why am I going on about 2017. Well, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what gets revealed at this point. It isn't going to change how 2017 ends up. GW are focusing on their Christmas sales, they don't want people drooling over whats coming up in 2018.

So what I'm hoping is that, sure, don't spoil stuff now, but they really need to start 2018 off strong. And the year has to be more balanced IMO, not a strong AoS first half followed by a draught for 6+ months.

I'm really hoping (since we know Codex Daemons is first off the rank in 2018) is that GW comes out swinging with a big Nurgle release, followed by Deathrattle into Malign Portents (or Malign Portents right into Deathrattle, either way is fine). They need to come out swinging, because there are so many story threads and races that haven't been touched upon yet (But somehow two Duardin races and Stormcast getting 3 books), and having 8 months (potentially +) of basically no new models isn't a great way to keep people engaged.

Deck updated, score was terrible though 3 best of 3 games lost against Stormcast. Any who win consistently, feel free to share the golden tactics! :)

Issue: Missed charge attacks from Saek and Karsus lead to lost games. Perhaps Im playing Garrek too defensively. Then again I need him Inspired.

I had my first game yesterday and really felt that pain.

I had dealt 2 damage to Brightshield, and decided to all in on a Karsus charge (Using the take 1 damage roll 2 extra dice). Karsus went in and completely whiffed against Brightshield on 5 dice, and then got smashed back in return.

That basically swung the game and I couldn't get back in with only Saek and Garrek left (who were also somewhat deep).

Will be interesting to see how they go after a few more games and when I start messing around with the deck.

Consider giving the Silver Helms a 1 point discount. They're the same cost as Dragon Blades, who are distinctly superior for damage output, for otherwise identical durability and mobility. The Dragon Blades deal nearly twice as many wounds in sustained combat than Silver Helms, but on the charge have only a 25% increase over the Silver Helms. In my own models, Dragon Blades are in the 7.7% percentile damage out on the charge, whereas Silver Helms are in the 20% on the charge. In sustained combat, the Dragon Blades drop to the 41% percentile, whereas Silver Helms drop to the 70% percentile. (Edit: Compared to unit sizes appropriate for Skirmish.)

Mate, it's all done off the calculation. If that's the way the calculation falls, it's the way it falls.

Yes, Silver Helms are ****** compared to Dragon Blades. But currently in AoS, they're the same points.

This wasn't meant to create 'balanced' renown for everything, merely to apply the renown calculation to a bunch of existing units that weren't included in the Skirmish booklet.

  19. May I suggest that in the Starting Decks you put the full name of the cards, and not just the numbers.

Since this isn't actually a database, I can't just plug in those numbers into a query and figure out what's what. In lieu of that, it'd be nice to know the names of the cards (especially since you didn't list them in order, presumably because you listed Objectives then Ploys then Upgrades in numerical order).

After these Factions I hope for some Slaves to Darkness.

I don't think Slaves to Darkness will see much love. GW have not seemed very interesting in pushing the whole Undivided thing lately. They love pushing the different chaos gods though, which is why I'm sure sooner or later we'll see Tzeentch and Nurgle warbands make their way into Shadespire also.

I would love to see Slaves to Darkness though, an Aspiring Champion leading a bunch of Warriors around, done up with very 'Chosen like' models. Would be super cool, but I suspect that the Blood Warriors warband will likely fulfil that in some ways.

Cool to hear the rest are coming soon, although a bit of a shame we're not going to get another 2 before the end of the year, early Q1 is still pretty good (as long as they don't eat into AoS release slots that should be happening also!). I'm wondering for how long of a 'break' Shadespire is going to take after the first 8 are done though. Like will they release a new warband every month, or will they let things settle for a couple of months before releasing another 4~ warbands or so.

Next year will be super interesting I think (For both Shadespire and Age of Sigmar).

  21. I have to say, I'm mildly disappointed at the costing of the warbands for ANZ.

Every other currency gets them at 50% core set cost or below. To me, that's the price point that makes sense. The core set comes with 2 warbands + the stuff you need to play the game, so of course, it should cost at least double the price of one warband right? Especially since all the miniatures will be of the same quality. There's no longer the excuse of marking up individual kits because you can 'customize' them compared to the push-fit single pose models in starters.

There's also the fact that in AUD, it costs a $50 to buy one.Psychologically, it feels like being $50 pushes it just outside the impulse buy or 'collect them all' territory. If it was a fiver less, I don't think I'd be having these feelings, it'd be less than 50% of the price of the core set and below that $50 threshold.

  22. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a Nurgle release on the horizon.

I am just reading through this months White Dwarf, and there was a little mention about one of the sculpters who did one of the new Death Guard models, and something else for Nurgle that they weren't quite ready to mention yet (Possibly implying a new Great Unclean one?).

I get the feeling that the Blightwar stuff was just a taster of stuff to come for Nurgle. If I had to guess, perhaps January will be Deathrattle followed by a Nurgle release after.

    Just read the pdf.

We tried adding difficult terrain. It was thematic but difficult terrain always ended up being a very effective help for shooters. If there is one thing AOS  DON'T   need it's anything that help shooters.

The rule for difficult were the only ones I was unsure about(and of course,  the only original rules).

Perhaps a better rule would just be to prevent running through difficult terrain.

In some ways,  i have no issue with slowing terrain helping shooters. In real battle,  the guys with the bows on the opposite side of the river of course have the advantage.
