That’s the funny part about it all, in some ways it’s better not to have them - because everyone can imagine that they’ll release exactly their dream army.

The time between the “Pointy Aelves” video and the time they released the first video of the Lumineth was probably the most fun time I had on this forum. Everyone was just happily speculating away about their new dream High Elves. So much excitement. And then we lost 20%, and another bunch turning really negative. And then ... we got the Alarith ...

It’s still better of course to get an army that you want, but you have to be lucky like KingBrodd and me that you actually like the outcome. I hope they’ll do something with traditional dwarfs that must of you actually like.

Yeah it can be hit and miss- I really wanted to like the fyreslayers but they just aren't my thing. I remember reading a rumoured description of "Steamhead dwarfs" with guns, dwarfs floating on single balloons and airships and they sounded terrible.. and then I saw them and just thought they were awesome! I'm a little concerned about Kurnothi arriving and me not loving them- but the underworlds war band again surprised me how much I liked them and I'm hopeful a possible fuller range would be ace.

I think thats the great thing about AoS is that GW have brought out things we weren't necessarily expecting and some of them are stunning and surprising, I'm very keen to see what they do next with the dwarf type - hoping for something around armourers/smiths and I'd love to see an AoS Bugman ranger force.. Not a fan of Chaos but wouldn't begrudge them getting an AoS treatment at all...

But gimme my wild centaur/satyr elves.. love the Narnian vibe!

    A man/woman of taste :)

I do not love most sylvaneth sculpts, tbh. I was thrilled when they released Skaeth's wild hunt, since they took the direction I had always preferred: satyr / centaur. I loved Orion, to the point that  I recently bought the "classic" metal one (the 2nd, which IMO is the superior one). An army of "hybrids" like Orion would be an insta buy from me.

And them, changing gears completely, I do love my dawi. I have some of the old classic metal sculpts to paint after my current project, can't wait.

Yeah an Orion styled force looks so good. I converted 2 more centaurs and  even that makes a fantastic looking dynamic  force and very tempted to buy the old Orion model - a new centre piece version of him in plastic would be amazing. I wonder if they might do Minotaur sized versions as shock troops . Really hope  we see some more of them soon.

I still have my classic dwarf army - some brilliant sculpts but I'd love to see some new "High Dwarfs" .

Where the heck is the white dwarf anyway? Few armies as iconic as the proud dawi, but they've been replaced with clowns and "greedy" slayers... grrrrr

This coming spring, Orion will be returining (tm); except that it will be called Ouryionn or Avatar of Kurnoth.

I really hope we see some new dwarfs soon - I love my Kharadron but I'd be stoked to see them take classic dwarfs and bring them into a new fresh design. The plastic Hammerers and Iron Breakers are so good, the Kharadron sculpts and Gotrek show how good they an do dwarfs in plastic, it would be great to see them surging back and retaking their homelands.

I'd also love to see the Kurnothi appear- I have a  small war band of them and just think they look fantastic. Maybe as an expansion/faction with Sylvaneth [who I've never quite liked for some reason]. I think Kurnoth returning could fit in quite well with Broken Realms.  Cometo think of it the return of Valaya would fit nicely too..fingers crossed ..

Hah you're a blast from the (warseer) past! Thanks, just some of the old bloodletter glaze watered down to imitate warpaint/make-up.

Ha! Warseer.. I miss those days and that gang- Harry, Hastings and the rest ! Really like what you're doing with the glazes - they look great and the warpaint around the eyes is perfect- it really sets off the paleness of the eyes. I like doing something similar in my elves/eldar/lady vamps. . The sorceress on foot is excellent - reminds me I have to finish a Kurnothi conversion I did with her but I didn't get my skin tones as good as yours!

You were saying about the bases and maybe tufts? they could work - maybe as dead grass- the little light patches act to contrast and lift the bases. I think your bases work perfectly with your scheme, a contrasting element could make them pop a little more. I use Army painter tufts for extra variety.

I should get back to posting pics and painting myself.. its been a while..

I wonder what the symbols mean, maybe new war bands this season? Theres 9 of them - one of them has a blood drop and crossed halberds, maybe a reference to the Rumour engine images with bold drop rapiers and the Halberd -maybe VC? There's a  forge there too -maybe something for Duardin?  Grungni's scouts?

Also the chain looks a little the chain from the last few rumour engine images.Theres a spiral -which I would have put in Life forces [Sylvaneth] but its in a chaos star I think- maybe beastmen ? Skaven are obvious..

I am of the opinion that the design plan was for each aelves gods to get there own army since each got a portion of souls from Slaanesh.

Tyrion has his side of Pointy aelves yet unseen

Teclis has Deepkin but stuff happens and he had to use some of Tyrions to make his side of Pointy aelves

    Morathi has daughter of Khaine

Malarion has Umbraneth spiky goth punk Aelves

Allarielle didn’t get any souls but has Sylvaneath and maybe Kurnothi in the future

I'm guessing if the Kurnothi appears might be through a broken realms book associated with Allarielle with the return of her consort Kurnoth..

Another thought around Morathi and Malerion -they could be twin shadow gods mirroring the Teclis and Tyron on the light side. ..

    One question,

Next preview will be on 31st?

They haven't mentioned anything about a preview in the Warhammer Community article.. but I'm hoping- might get teasers of WarCry and Underworlds war bands maybe? They might not have mentioned it yet in case it took away from yesterdays preview.

I think the issue with squats is their thing was mostly big vehicles and heavy armour; so basically they do what Terminators and Imperial Guard armour groups do - so I think there's just a design gap in that they don't really bring anything "new" to the table as such. Which I think has been an issue for GW in working out what to do with them that isn't already done by an Imperial army of some kind already. Marines/Imperials just half-size isn't enough.

As for Khadorans if you look back at artwork, lore and at the game Man O War you can see that dwarves had most of those technologies. The only bit that's different is they use those magic orbs of flying instead of huge zeppelin bags because those would be prohibitively big and expensive to use. Otherwise metal beard and face shields; guns; airships; hove packs; thick armoured ships and all are very dwarfy. The dwarves of Old World we saw had fallen from their great technological might after the War of the Beard with the Elves (which also caused them to crumble). And the Smiths Guild was very set in their ways and not wanting to show off their tech or risk it falling into the hands of other races. So when their race was weaker they made the choice more to hide in holds and not advance their tech; restricting and holding it back. They didn't want these fast breeding humans or orks to get a hold of how to build airships

To me when I first saw the Kharadrons I was bewildered - not what I was expecting - but totally love them and I really hope they expand their culture and model range further. Their weapons are very WFB/AoS, not grim dark enough for 40k - but they show that GW can do something new and fresh with the Dwarf aesthetic -which id like to see more of both for AoS and 40k. I think they could take a brand new approach to Squats in 40k as they have been away so long- and they clearly have ideas of how to translate ideas around dwarfs into different contexts and cultures.

Hoping some dwarfs in todays preview [vain attempt to stay on topic..😇]

Be still my beating heart! The Kharadron really made me realise how good redone Squats would be and I'd be all over them like a rash.. BUT im not holding my breath..

Hoping for glimpses of upcoming war bands for Warcry and Underworlds tomorrow .. hopefully one of which will be dwarfs..

If you ask to my inner dwarf, yes, we could use a new Ship, more Heroes or maybe even a melee MARINE Troop.  But if I want to be honest to myself, I think like you, there are other micro-armies like  Fyreslayers that need more miniatures ASAP

Oh yeah- a melee troop type.. all of those options -I'd love Valkyrie ladies on balloons ..[that sounds worse than it was meant!]. Might get them - I have the impression KO were quite a success as a release.

    33 minutes ago, Greybeard86 said:

Indeed! I would love something like the old "Dogs of War", with a combination of "racial" regiments (human pikemen, ogre shock troops, dwarf hammerers) and "multiracial" troops (e.g. a multi racial cannon kit).

I think the issue with fyreslayers is that they get very "samey". Slayers were fun in dwarf armies because they brought some "tone variation". I understand that in AoS you can do "alliance" armies but they seem to lose out on a lot of "faction" specific bonuses. This seems to lead to very "samey" army compositions (naked dwarves with axes, eel riders, kurnoth hunters spam).

What I miss about slayers is that they were punk-rock deranged dwarfs with Mohawks -now they are capitalists with crests..😁. Mind you I saw someone had converted an underworld war band into slayers with removed runes and added trousers and they looked ace. But the Fyrelayers aren't helped by limited model types - they have 3 boxes while most army releases now have 6 which is a better basis for a faction. Be interesting to see what they do with the micro factions going forward - expand them or combine them with other factions.

I'm hoping for Norse Dwarfs in the new WFB to get my dwarf fix [dwarf beserkers again!]

I think that Idoneth will recieve a new Underworlds warband to be on par with other AoS-Exclusive armies like Fyreslayers and Ironjawz (btw, both are 2 years older).
I hope to see more things for KOs, we only had the Underworlds warband and 1 hero.

With you on more KO but compared to a lot of factions we have a great set of models - maybe a Warcry war band - exploring some the other elements of the Kharadrons? A female character or two would be great as well.

Regarding new releases: can we get some duardin love? I understand they want to focus on "new" dwarf factions, but still. I would love some new slayers fyreslayers. Haven't had anything new in years (or have I missed anything?).

Also, I miss my "normies". Is there no chance to get an update to freeguilds? It is such a wonderful aesthethic, I always think of:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutterij#/media/File:The_Nightwatch_by_Rembrandt_-_Rijksmuseum.jpg

I think a freeguild line representing multiracial militia would be so flavourful.

Yeah I'd love some new Dwarfs of some description - Fyreslayers certainly need something [even though I'm nota fan]. I'd love to see some other dwarfs -like a ranger war band for Warcry or something..

I'm hoping for either something Dwarf or Kurnothi but there hasn't been any rumour engine hints for them so I'm not expecting anything.

Looking forward to seeing what does come for Underworlds and Warcry though- the Seraphon could be tempting as a small war band .

Loved Fantasy but hated how Dwarfs were the proverbial "punching bags" of the setting.

Need someone to look tough in an Army Book?  Just say they single-handedly destroyed a Dwarf hold or two.

I very much prefer AoS status quo where Order might of gotten their butts whipped for a while but are now on the counter attack.

Yeah I like how the dwarfs can be resurgent in AoS- hated how they were slowly dwindling in fantasy [although loved the setting and the forces ..]

I think I've lost it but I've been howling with laughter at this picture for about 5 minutes now

I might have to model a load of bases with little stunty fellas actually embedded sideways in them so they look like they've been stood on and they're pancake flat

They do look like fab kits...

The rumour engine looks a bit Tyranid but the chained spike looks more AoS.. maybe some sort of dragon-y monster. Or seraphon??

Lumineth Realm Lords do seem to be a bizarre release. Obviously Covid has had a big impact, but it feels like something was changed last minute. I don't think this could be the case (as battletomes and models are created so far off in advance), but it seems like they spent some effort in marketing and in the battletome talking about the different temples only to release the generic troops and mountain temple. On it's own, Lumineth does seem like a very small army, so do many AoS armies, but LRL feel almost incomplete.

To add to this, their battlebox not selling out, their strange pricing, and how long it's taken the models to become available has left the release feeling weird. Two of these things were Covid related, so I'm not trying to lay blame to GW.

I don't know what went on when designing this army, but it feels like it was meant to be bigger than it ended up being; not in the way that they're hyping a second wave, but more like there were more models planned than we got. As if it was originally intended to be an Ossiarch or Stormcast sized release, but ended up being cut back somewhere down the pipeline.

I hope this means we'll see the other temples later down the line. I also hope the strange situation and high pricing around the army doesn't put people off enough that it sells too poorly for another wave.

Well I remember reading that High Elves were a big seller in WFB [like one of the biggest sellers], so they could be following that and building a faction that expands over time, temples rather than the Stormcast Chambers. This is from ages ago when Warseer was still going but I think Harry mentioned it and he was very well informed.

InitiallyI thought it was kurnothi. But the crow with the key which definitley has matching rubble just doesn’t fit the Kurnothi vibe. Does have an Ulgu feel. I reckon this is the leg of a Daemon shadow aelf. And actually it’s not too different from chaos Fury legs. So being an Aelf, I could imagine the Daemon aspect to be more muted and softer, hence the dog like padding. Or not, I never guess these right 😅

    524D6037-37DC-4B92-9DE9-DBDBAB13A3E9.jpeg

I think it looks too pure animal for a demon- its some kind of creature or ' were, it seems large for a normal sized animal though. The basing could be from Warcry catacombs or maybe a new Quest game? So maybe not indicative of the faction but the setting.. in fact I'd bet its for catacombs..

  16. Others have offered plenty- the internet can show up a lot of hyperbole, folks can be more abrupt online than they would in real life and I guess that attitude can spill into real life.

On the opponents hating on your army - people can have bad experiences against a certain army - nothing you can do about their past experience but you can ensure that when they play you, they have a better experience. I think by being a considerate, generous opponent and showing that you play the army out of love of the faction rather than pure competitiveness you can, if not win them round, give them a good playing experience. Winning I great but a great game doesn't reply on winning, I'd rather have a fun game were my opponent enjoys it as much as I do than win with them sweating and cursing. So that could be an approach to any players who get wound up at your army- play with warmth and humour, play relaxed [trying to win obviously] and that might allow them to relax and enjoy the game too [giving you a better experience]. With the loud, big guy thats threatening your models but saying he is joking- maybe just say to him you appreciate he is joking but it can be a bit much- if he could emphasise the humour but during the game you'd appreciate it. Also give him the benefit of the doubt and try an condition yourself to think he's just joking [wether he is or not]- laugh along with him [not at him] and you'll probably have a better experence.

I learned this through getting my ass kicked repeatedly by my mates army and whenever I went too hard at hm he'd get wound up so I realised I'd have a better time if we both enjoyed the game, I relaxed a bit more, still lost but we both had a good time.

On the forum experience - TGA is pretty cool, I also find if you get more into the hobby discussions it gets even better.. nice bunch here.

Don't know how many people consider these models "canon with Orruk lore" but they look awesome so that's all the excuse I need to use them for converting.

    OrcCheerleaders-15Jul-Content8cw.jpg

Those are excellent, I was wondering how well they could do female orcs/orruks -these type of sculpts with added axes/choppas and armour would be ace- the pointing one would make a cool leader model.

I really think why there hasn't been as much female representation is probably for some factions it hasn't been asked ="what would females in these societies do? How would they appear on the battlefield ?".

Returning to dwarfs -females not appearing on the battlefield is not an intrinsic feature of dwarf culture, its been mentioned possibly in passing in the lore but not to the extent that its part of the defining feature of the race. Even if it was the benefit of AoS is that it is a progressing story so things can change. Dwarf culture could see the rise of the Cult of Valaya which female dwarfs take to the battlefield to protect their holds/home/honour/profit.

Again I'm all for it, I think GW are well capable of doing a good job of it - it needs to be done well, but if done well I think it deepens factions individually and the setting as a whole.

  18. In terms of female dwarfs - I don't think there has ever been an explicit mentioning of why they wouldn't be warriors, they are supposed to be as tough, stubborn and resilient as the males. They just haven't really been talked about until recently- bar Valaya and Queen Helga from the grudge of Drong. they have been introduced into Kharadron fiction and art which is excellent and I could see them being added to other dwarf factions -maybe as distinctive cults/formations. Model wise I think in th past they have been tricky to do well, but I think they have really got dwarf proportions perfect now with the recent sculpts, so adding subtly female forms is much easier [now they have waists and knees!].

I think we will see more of them as they continue to expand AoS, GW seems much more keen to add female models recently and I think when they revisit some of the ranges we will see more.
