  1. For what it's worth, I've been playing the following list casually at my FLGS and I've been having a spectacular time (and winning more often than not). It's not a "competitive list" -- I'm sure I'd get wrecked against tournament opponents. However, if you're okay with 4+ to hit rolls and the feast-or-famine results you get from that, it's highly enjoyable. Please note that I'm building my models/army more for a collection/completion purpose than for victories, so there are undoubtedly a number of non-optimized aspects of this.

    Allegiance: Ogor Mawtribes
    - Mawtribe: Boulderhead

    Leaders
    Frostlord on Stonehorn (400)
    - General
    - Trait: Lord of Beasts
    - Artefact: Brand of the Svard
    - Mount Trait: Metalcruncher
    Huskard on Stonehorn (320)
    - Blood Vulture
    - Mount Trait: Frosthoof Bull
    Huskard on Thundertusk (340)
    - Harpoon Launcher
    - Prayer: Pulverising Hailstorm
    - Mount Trait: Rimefrost Hide

    Battleline
    4 x Mournfang Pack (280)
    - Gargant Hackers
    4 x Mournfang Pack (280)
    - Culling Clubs or Prey Hackers with Iron Fists
    Thundertusk Beastriders (300)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Extra Command Point (50)

    Total: 1970 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 97

The best part? It's light on strategy. Get right in there are beat the tar out of your opponent. Last night I discovered the true joy of my big beasts counting as extra models for claiming objectives.

Play like an Ogor would, and you'll get surprisingly good results!

Skink starpriest ability to double damage for any SERAPHON with bite or jaws attack I can't see any reason why we cant apply that to Carnosaurs massive jaws attack making it D3 to D6 - can we do this? Have people been playing it like that?

    Doubling a D3 makes it D3x2, not D6.

I was worried Engine of the Gods spam would be a thing but it makes sense. Are rippers still pulling their weight post FAQ?

Rippers got more reliable with the change, if you ask me. Each hit causes 1-3 wound rolls, which you reroll if attacking on your turn? Yes, please!

    Spring is March, April, May.

But what about our friends in the Southern Hemisphere? 😁

And, if we're going to be pedantic about which months qualify as "spring," then June qualifies more than March since a majority of March is still winter.

I really hope there's no more Sigmarine stuff for years and years.

The good news is that’s there’s no such thing as a Sigmarine! I can say with relative certainty that Games Workshop has no intention of releasing any Sigmarines for Age of Sigmar in the near future.

Stormcast, on the other hand, are bound to see additional releases in the foreseeable future.

The suspicious goats poster could mean about as much as the preposterous rat men poster (ie. nothing much, so far).  Or the heavy preponderance of duardin-related posters.  I'm trying really hard to just enjoy the posters without hanging release schedule hopes upon them.

That was my first thought, too, but the pre-ratmen parts of that poster read more as an advertisement of beastmen than anything else. I now see more parallels between the goats and the "ratmen" poster in terms of promising some beastmen love (not that way...) than anything else.

    • AoS in itself is basicly a skirmish that scales quite well into larger battles.

AoS is, when you compare the rules for 2.0 vs those of 40K 8th Edition, nearly an identical game to 40K. If one is a skirmish that scales well to large battles, both are. So when Kill Team can exist in 40K, a similar variant can certainly exist for AoS.

Quick question that I don’t think deserves a topic by itself, what should I arm my skinks with?

In my experience, if you're running a unit of 10, it's your choice. Javelins are easier to use, but their shorter range is limiting.

If you're looking to max out a unit of 40, use the boltspitters. The +2 to hit for the big unit makes an amazing difference, and you'll get work done.

Either way, give them bucklers. It's still a 6+ save, but now you get to ignore rend -1. If your skinks get into close combat, you'll want to retreat more often than strike, so the clubs aren't particularly useful.

Again, these are just my opinions -- I don't purport to have any amazing tactical insight, but this is what I've determined from my experience.

The way I'm reading the FAQ, Ripperdactyls can indeed do infinity hits- Kroak's "cast three spells" thing on his warscroll is used as an example of a warscroll overriding the core rules, so presumably Ripperdactyls are the same?

In my eyes, it's still unclear. There's another relevant question:

    Quote

Q: The rules say that extra attacks gained by the use of an ability cannot themselves generate further attacks (so if a hit roll of 6 would generate another attack, it would not do so again if you roll another 6 for the bonus attack). Does this also apply to spells?

    A: Yes.

So there is a precedent, within this document, that not all warscroll abilities overrule the Core Rules. It's a really strange situation they've created.

I also wonder if there'll be something within the Matched Play to fully clarify these types of situations... after all, that's where the Rules of 1 first cropped up.

That said it does mention one character growing up in a slave camp. It's probably too much to expect the authors to address this with the gravitas of even a historical YA novel but maybe there's something there.

If the Star Wars franchise has shown us anything it's that kids are more than willing to play along with a major character being raised in a slave camp. I'm sure there will be some sort of arranged escape as part of the storyline, too. It may be cliche, but it sells.

  11. For those already assuming that the adjusted (and points-free) summoning will ruin balance in Matched Play, remember that virtually every major tournament uses a rules pack that adjusts the standard Matched play rules somewhat. I’d expect that many of those tournaments will just rule that within that event all summoning/reinforcement requires you to have the points set aside for it.

Well yes, but the war machines they have rebranded in AoS packaging have generally had ‘on-board’ crew and it had been looking like those separate crew style of war machines had been trending towards compendium.  But not any more.

Note that the Warhammer Legends warscroll for the Reaper Bolt Thrower states: "The Bolt Thrower and its crew are treated as a single model, using the characteristics given above." It's entirely possible that this is an indication of how the crewed warmachine warscrolls will be handled in the second edition.

Nice but why does it always have to be ruins. For almost as long as I can remember 80-90% of the official scenery for AOS, warhammer fantasy or 40 has been ruins more or less similar to these. It’s a nice design but as always the first thing we are gonna se from displays and in WD is complete buildings made from many combined sets of these and other ruins. Why not just make some more undamaged structures? Or at the very least bring back the old ones (Witchfate tor, that massion and the tower)? So very hard and extremely expensive to build cities of the mortal realms when all the scenery portray rubble.

You make a fair point -- "intact" scenery would be nice to see. I can't see it happening (full-on uninformed opinion here!) as battlefields don't tend to leave buildings intact. So while buildings may be undamaged at the start of a battle, that condition won't last very long. So I expect that the designers try to show that battle-damaged condition of buildings. Plus, they get to flex their artistic muscles differently that way.

Noone asked for DE compendium as they already made DE into subfactions - with allegiances or even battletomes. Instead they could spend the time making allegiance & balanced points for Brets & TK. Reactions would be much different.

And to be honest - to make narrative games in Old Worlds you need ALL comepediums not just one... Untill all are released what is the use of this, making people angry ?

Once again, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Clearly, there are a lot of quick and angry reactions to the release of the Dark Elf Legends rules, which came not too long after the teaser of Legends (at Adepticon, on March 21). So by trying to maintain a short period of time between promise and execution, they produced one full-fledged faction for it -- and proceed to get attacked for their efforts.

Instead, they could have waited, and developed rulesets for all of the Legends factions for an enormous one-time drop... at a later date to be determined. So then the internet would be blasting them for forgetting about the Legends concept they had already promised!

I personally feel a lot of the community has to sit back and take a deep breath. The sky is not falling -- GW has been doing lots of phenomenal things, including listening to customer feedback, which is why Warhammer Legends exists in the first place. As an educator, I can tell you that constructive criticism is helpful, but angry feedback doesn't exactly fuel any change (except to listen less to customer feedback -- nobody likes being dumped on!).

So let's see where this goes -- particularly when it comes to other factions and whether or not they're removed from matched play. Respond when we have more information.

  16. I have to first say “THANK YOU” for the best website that any of us users could have asked for. It’s a phenomenal collection of discussions and users, and it’s hard to believe it started out with such humble beginnings.

In terms of covering costs,is it possible to add an optional membership cost directly through the site? That way users can contribute on a user-by-user basis as they can without going off-site to something like Paetreon (or however that’s supposed to be spelled). If an optional cost isn’t feasible or desirable, I’d recommend the “members only” sections that you mentioned in your post. Just my opinion, ought, obviously.

Is warhammer quest suitable for a 5 year old? Like playing with his dad. I want to get him into warhammer but not sure how. Xmas seems an opportunity.

I have found with my 5-year-old that he gets excited to roll dice and kill the bad guys, so I don't even bother with the story side for him. Essentially I made the decisions and let him just roll the dice -- he is, after all, only 5. He has enjoyed it though!

  18. Alternatively, can you slow-deploy your army to counter the positioning of a single-drop battalion? Sure, some units/battalions/armies can deploy off the board, but if your opponent one-drops their entire army onto the battlefield, they've lost the ability to adjust deployment based on what you're doing. That can be used to your advantage if you're savvy about deployment and exploiting unit-vs-unit matchups and positioning.
