Just curious, whats the reason for Zilfin? So you can count the Frigates as battleline, too? Or doy uo envision less relying on fly high and more the pure movement speed of your boats?

I'm bullish on "Thunderers with rifles in boats", probably unreasonably so, but it's honestly one of the better things I've had going for me in games. Potentially this avenue would make it viable to run Barak-Nar, too, if you want to focus more on being anti-magic. because then your battlelines would be arkanauts and thunderers.

Yeah, Zilfin for the Battleline and the extra movement. I fear that there will be a situation where it maybe better to run the extra 6" since fly high forces us to stay atleast 9" away from enemy unit. Some of my regular opponents are pretty good with screening...

I also kinda like the Admiral command trait. That trait plus the mask-hailer looks like a good support piece.

Barak-Nar would also be an option, but then I should probably take atleast 3 heroes.

  2. What does a good 2000 point list build around 2 frigates and 1 Ironclad looks like?

    I was thinking:

    Quote

    Barak-Zilfin
    Battleline
    10 x Arkanaut Company (90)
    10 x Arkanaut Company (90)

    Behemoths
    Arkanaut Frigate (250)
    Arkanaut Frigate (250)
    Arkanaut Ironclad (510)

    Battalions
    Iron Sky Attack Squadron (120)

    Total: 1310 / 2000

    This leaves me 690 points.

My plan is to rush forward with the frigates, trying to claim objectives with Arkanauts early on.
The Ironclad and Frigates would then try to pick out heroes and support pieces.

    But after that?

In regards to heroes I was thinking an Admiral with the Zilfin trait and the CA artefact plus a Navigator for anti-magic capabilities.

Im not sure about what to put inside the Ironclad. 15 thunderers maybe? Whats about a third hero? (An endrinmaster maybe to keep the Ironclad in fighting shape?). What about a few Riggers?

So, just half a day, 12h to wait to know.

Adepticon is probably mostly 40K focused as the (mega) rumor says that 40K V9 (AKA V8.5 like AoS minor update)  will launch this summer with a new starter set.

I really cant say what we'll see at which preview. So far we have evidence for Sons of Behemat, Seraphon and Pointy Aelfs for AoS, 2 already announced but not shown Psychic Awakening Books plus a new Custodes Codex and another PA Book "Engine War" for 40K. There is a lot of stuff and I have no idea how GW is going to present that.

I swear we could replace you with a D6 table of poorly thought-out bad takes or actively invented conspiracy theories and it would be about the same level of hysterical self-victimisation.

There is a block function. You can ignore users with just a few clicks. I did that for 2-3 people here and my whole experience improved by a lot.

Will that have point increases/decreases if their are any or is that at a later date?

No, the post release FAQ only has erratas and designers commentary. Point changes are done with the big winter FAQ and the summer Generals Handbook .

I mean keep in mind that books/cards could sit at the warehouse for months before release. With the issues they had with Sylvaneth, You'd rather get your product from china earlier than later.   I assume they pick their release schedule based on what's ready to go. I think this just means that it is coming in the next few months. Maybe before pointy aelves, maybe after.  Unfortunately this site is not on the wayback machine so it's not possible to see the full history (I guess unless you have an account there)

There was also the Astrolitic Monolith a few months ago. We havent seen that yet. Maybe that was the Seraphon Terrain and the main release had been pushed back?

Is anyone putting Skypikes on ArCo anymore? Feel like I’d rather have the pew-pew nowadays.

I think Pikes are pretty useful. They get +1 to hit around an objective or with that one CA, they have some rend and D3 damage. You only lose one 9" pistole, so I think its a straight upgrade.

We know pointy Alves are coming in spring which starts mid march. If there's no book between now and then then yes they are kinda dragging their heels. Didn't we have 4 or 5 books by March /April last year?

Just would have been nice to have all old books redone before bringing new factions into (I know technically pointy Alves are not new).

We got on average 1 book a month. Some months nothing as we got a few double book months.

Gonna be very disappointed when seraphon are not not revealed. Gw did a great job last year in pushing books out and now there's only one left they are dragging their heels.

Its january and we already got 2 books! I wouldnt call that "dragging their heels"

    Quick question guys.

Svaregg-Stein Illuminator Flarepistol: The first time the bearer's Pistol hit something, reroll all hit rolls for Kharadron Overlords against that unit for rest of phase.

Can I hold of from shooting, can I choose not to shoot,  with the navigator until I really need it? So I don't trigger it instantly!

Sure. You dont have to chose him to shoot if you dont want to. Fighting in melee is mandatory, shooting isnt,

So they won’t kill anything, tank anything. They act as speed bumps, and a zoning out mechanism.....and this is what we are supposed to be happy with for the iconic/universal battleline ground troop? Lmfao.

I take sword/shield guardsmen in CoS for 80 points. For 10 points more I get the same melee attack plus a lot more shooting. Worth it to me.

2 DAYS to go! Can't wait to see the new Hish Aelves!

What types of units and characters do you want to see in this new glorious factions?

First of all: Id like to see something unique to the Mortal Realms, not just a revival of the old models/look. I always prefered the completly new stuff to updated models (Fyreslayers, Kharadrons, Idoneth, the new Daughters stuff).

    Now coming to units:

Id like to see a mixed close combat/missile unit as basic battleline option (showing off Aelf skill by mastering multiple weapons)

Flying heavy cav. Decorated knights (keeping with the Hysh aesthetic) riding flying feathered beasts (eagle-adjacent maybe?)

A unit of mages (its Teclis army afterall)

    eagle chariots

    We had that once…

Joking aside, heavy flying cavalry (Hawks, Eagles, whatever) would be a good pick for a High-Elves-revival faction. They could combine the elite cavalry aspect of the old dragon princes with the eagle theme of the old Asur, while still creating something unique to the Mortal Realms.

I honestly can’t tell without some games first. I’m currently torn between ziflin with iron sky double frigate.

Yeah, im in the same situation. I didnt get a game in yet but im toying with a Zilfin Iron Sky Squadron and a Ironclad.

Urbaz is a close second for me as I played them a lot with the last book.

For Iron drakes, it comes from longbeards. Handguns/Crossbows can't get it. Thought there was a spell or artefact that gave it initially, but there isn't. Hadn't looked at that stuff in a while.

I play Hammerhal. So I was asking because I would have liked to have that for my units too, haha

30 crossbows can put out ~50 damage when buffed (to 2+/2+ re-rolling 1s to wound).

30 handguns can put out ~24 damage at rend -1 when buffed (to 2+/2+ re-rolling 1s to wound).

20 Iron Drakes can put out ~26 damage at rend -2 on 2+/3+ re-rolling 1s to wound.

Those buffs are easy to get for any of those units, even in a hallowheart list. They can do something like this:

      Hide contents

    Allegiance: Cities of Sigmar
    - City: Hallowheart
    Mortal Realm: Aqshy
    Runelord (90)
    - General
    - Trait: Veteran of the Blazing Crusade
Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (280)
    Battlemage (90)
    Battlemage (90)
    Sorceress (90)
Freeguild General (100) (Probably not worth running if also using iron drakes; just put it in to show that it could be done)
    10 x Longbeards (110)
    - Ancestral Weapons & Shields
    - City Role: Honoured Retinue (Must be 5-20 models)
    20 x Irondrakes (300)
    30 x Freeguild Crossbowmen (300)
    Whitefire Retinue (140)
    Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (60)
    Soulscream Bridge (80)

Total: 1730 / 2000 - still 270 points floating to do things with
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 96

Teleports around the board while pumping out 50-100 damage with shooting with rend up to -2

Could Drop the crossbows and general for 30 more iron drakes, another rune lord, and 10 more longbeards, which would put out ~65 damage at rend -2 per turn.

Where does the re-rolling one to wound come from?

People saying "We dont need magic we have shooting" Have you seen Cities of Sigmar. Some of the best magic and shooting the game has to offer in the same list.

Which lists? Most Hallowheart armies only have 1 or 2 shooting units at best. And most of them have to stand still to get most out of their abilities.
The Blood and Glory winner only had a unit of crossbows and one unit of handgunners.

Magic outside of Hallowheart is much weaker. Doing both is hard for CoS.

  17. I just looked up the entry. They are called the "black marines". They all wear black obsidian armour carapaces, independent of any sky-port affiliations. They were formed to fight "non-physical entities" and are equiped with scatter-shot rifles and anti-ethereal equipment like, celestium burst-grenades, aether-vapour projectors or scintillator lenses.

For all the lore where the KO fight against (Tzeentch-)Demons one would assume that they would have come up with some devices/inventions to counter magic. Seems "I cast Skycannon, Wizard scum!" is what they came up with. :')

The lore has a number of anti-magic things, but they are all about negating/destroying magic.

There is even a dedicated anti-endless spells Thunderer squad with black obsidian armor (I gonna paint 5 of them soon. I really like the idea!)

Updated my Arkanaut companies! I made a apprentice navigator for each squad to go with captain as a type of unit guide (purely for fluff and aesthetics) then made some sky pikes (never used them before as I was a skyhook and volleygun guy myself) and finally built the last of my skyhooks!

The book has certainly kicked my hobby bug into gear! The pistols were fairly easy conversions if you guys are wondering how I did them.

    All hail Naga... uhhmmm Hashut!!!

just got some rocket launchers and fireglaives from Santa and I was kinda wondering how the actual ruling on the „Blackshard Armor“ is.

    https://www.warhammer-community.com/tag/legion-of-azgorh/
Ben Curry implies in his faction focus and the compendium states that all LoA „warriors“ wear blackshard armor. But the „ignore first allocated wound“ characteristic is on no warscroll and the general usage of said armor is only mentioned in the headline for the Castellan and the ironsworn...

is anybody wellversed enough to enlighten me, please?!
Who wears blackshard armor (demonsmith?! Kdaii?!) and does it also prevent wounds allocated from mortal wounds? The wording is off for the newer books, but we are f-ing old school boyz...

In the Legions of Azgorh Battletome: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resources/fw_site/fw_pdfs/aos_warscrolls/warhammer-aos-legion-of-azgorh.pdf

Blackshard armour is one of their two battle traits (so avaible for every Legions of Azgorh model).

    Quote

Blackshard Armour: The armour worn by each of the warriors in the Legion of Azgorh is wrought from iron shot through with refined shards of Aqshian realmstone. Each suit is a masterpiece of the Daemonsmith’s craft, and is imbued with a measure of Aqshy’s burning power.

The first wound that is allocated to each unit with this battle trait in each shooting phase and each combat phase is negated.

Yup. German translation quality, as always. :/ Also in the german version the Anatomizer relic for the Khemist does MW to ALL models within 6", not just enemy models. So RAW it hurts our guys as well.

    More observations:

    1. The "Scholar and Arkanaut" WT for the Admiral let's us choose an additional footnote. It doesn't specify that we have to use the general footnotes from the "build your own port"-section. So could we take f.ex. a Barak Urbaz Admiral, give him the WT and take the footnote of f.ex. Barak Mhornar? That would be pretty rad!

    2. The "Emergency vents" artefact for the Khemist doesn't specify how long the ability lasts. RAW we only activate it in the enemy shooting phase but it doesn't say that it only lasts for that phase. Potentially this could give Thunderers a -3 to being hit buff in close combat, if they are close to the Khemist.

    1. That should work, but some Skyport footnotes target their respective skyport keyword. So the Barak-Mhonar footnote would be useless in a Barak-Zilfin army.

    2. Wait for the FAQ but I think its supposed to be only for that phase.
