  1. You let me call myself a great person in a poll, that's a dangerous plot to get a few egos there!

Ok, but legit, I am (personally) super laid back about this. And most importantly, it's a casual game. Given all the stuff you can do in AoS, having a Dragon character in Wanders seems very...meh. For me, if you came to a tournament with that thing, I'd be fine ruling it in, but that is a slippery slope and I would definitely poll the other contenders to double check but...you really doesn't give you an edge that you couldn't find better.

I don't know their Warscroll, maybe there is some really ridiculous thing on their, but for 420 points? There better be! And I doubt them being Wanderers changes any of that. If you are playing for a competitive tournament, then sure, you are breaking the rules, but also probably dropping your powerlevel a bit, so I would say its a wash.

  2. Just now, Aelfric said:

Endless spells don't count towards your allies points cost, so not a problem.

I was more talking about points. The Warlocks are 320 total, so either an Archmage, or a Draekseer with some room for Endless Spells.

    ******, forgot that. Cheers lol

Yeah, AM on Dragon or Drakeseer could work. Or just sod magic and more PG or Frostheart

It gets me so many times. Cool idea! Nope, breaks allegiance. It's why I played Mixed Order... lol

Magic seems too good combined with the Phoenixes to not do in SOME degree. A Dragon mage would be my vote, they are durable if you aren't too reckless and can keep up with Phoenixes. Drakeseer would give you room for an endless spell like Soulsnare Shackles or Quicksilver Swords. Monster mash, yay!

  4. Yeah, the General's Handbook 2019 will be out sometime in June, which will update points and perhaps even tweak some aspects of Matched Play.

But, either way, Idoneth are not getting a book rewrite anytime soon as they were designed for the current edition. So, for now, if he wants the strongest kits, either form of Eels seem to be the best way to go. Namarti aren't awful, and with the right support can be solid, but eels are fast, durable, and powerful. Even with a point increase, they will probably be a potent unit and a very elite choice, so you will need less models in the army and can play bigger games faster!

If I could get my hands on the doomfire warlocks/more pg...

Anointed on Frostheart Phoenix (General): 280
    - Master of Defense
    - Glyphfeathers

    Anointed on Frostheart Phoenix: 280

    Anointed on Frostheart Phoenix: 280

    20 Phoenix Guard: 280

    10 Phoenix Guard: 140

    10 Phoenix Guard: 140

    10 Phoenix Guard: 140

    10 Phoenix Guard: 140

    5 Doomfire Warlocks: 160

    5 Doomfire Warlocks: 160

    2000pts

Sadly, Doomfire Warlocks are Daughters of Khaine, and Daughters aren't a viable ally for Phoenix Temple, so they violate your Phoenix Temple allegiance...which makes the Phoenix Guard no longer battleline. (This always FEELS less complicated than spelling it out makes it...)

You will need to find alternatives to the Doomfire Warlocks, or add regular battleline.

To keep the Aelf theme, your best bet for Pure Battleline for a Mixed Order list would probably be Bleaksword/Spears/Darkshards from Darkling Covens.

For keeping the Phoenix Temple deal, you are back to Archmages and Loremasters. You COULD do an Archmage on Dragon or Drakeseer. That's a lot of spicy behemoths...

  6. So my current collection is:

Free Peoples/Grand Alliance (basically old Empire mix, and started from the start of what was going to be my Empire army)

Stormcast Eternals (mostly Sacrosanct, with a few random bits. Mostly gotten either by accident or as a side thought.)

Legions of Nagash (Started due to Coven Throne and converting Blood Knights, shelved for now due to conversions not panning out and LoB focus felt 1 dimensional)

Flesh-Eater Courts (Ironically started to "flesh" out from LoB, since I had the Dragon, Varghests, and some Ghouls from a Start Collecting kit. I dived in because they could be super Dragon heavy, which is what I wanted for my LoB in the long term. More ironic, I haven't taken the real plunge and still only have 2 monsters.)

I have a scattering of other armies, thus the "Grand Alliance Order" banner. I have a big interest in many other armies, and depending on support, whether I commit to finishing my current backlog or not, and where my fancy takes me, any of these interests could be a big project. If Warcry gives me a lot of Skirmish rules, that will be dangerous as I will undoubtedly make a dozen or so Warbands.

Potential armies: Tzeentch, Slaanesh, Beasts of Chaos, Chaos Dwarves, Ironjaws/Bonesplittas, DWARVES of some sort, Trolls?

I am all over the place. Send help, preferably in the form of more money and time.

That Shattered Dominion pre-order is a joke right? If you buy the kits seperately it amounts to $350. You're telling me 6 flat tiles are worth almost $300?

Those 6 tiles are literally the Realm of Battle board, it is actually a savings then.

    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Shattered-Dominion

Those are sturdy, plastic tiles with sculpted in detail. They are expensive, maybe too much so depending on who you are, but they are sturdy, gorgeous, and fit perfectly to lay out a full 6x4 table, or less as you please. 6 2x2 tiles. Solid product, so no joke.

  8. This has the same "issue" as the Free Guild General, in that the banner is a "free" item. Because it does not say you take the banner or something else, like the wording between the shield and the bow, then it does not conflict with any other item he has.

NOW, how to MODEL the Dragon Noble is a bit of a problem. As the model is, he DOES have to not take something, but if you build him "optimally" as his warscroll allows he should have: A sword/polearm (lance if on a horse), a shield/bow, and a banner. So, a loadout can be polearm, shield, banner, all at once.

How you model that is up to your imagination. I like to do the back banner effect, where you just put it "attached" to their back, kind of like many Samurai styles.

Sorry to be confusing. The stormhosts also get an additional command ability but I don’t see any additional command abilities if I don’t choose a Stormhost.

I really like staunch defender which is why Id prefer not to have a Stormhost keyword.

    Your options are:

No Stormhost chosen: You may choose Staunch Defender as your general's Command Trait.

You choose a Stormhost: Your general MUST have that Stormhost's Command Trait instead. No Staunch Defender.

Stormhosts give you a bonus (extra command abilities, bonuses abilities, etc.) but at the cost of requiring your Command Trait and first artifact be what the Stormhost has for you.

So those are your two options. If you want Staunch Defender, but you also want to use one of the Stormhost's abilities, then I am afraid you are out of luck. If you want Staunch Defender, then just ignore the Stormhosts all together.

Wow, I've been playing that rule wrong for almost a year now. Thanks for the spot, boy is my face red! :/

Must be all that Ironweld Allegiance you've been playing.  Allies? Who needs allies!

As for the Deepkin, I like the idea of allies and Deepkin's Ionrach Conclave adds a really cool idea. Finding a monster or something that really works with their Tides of Death ability.

A Dragonlord might be your best bet for hammer. If you were more Magic heavy I'd suggest a Frostheart Phoenix.

For the Privateers, it's a solid plan. They will give you a turn and supplement your Namarti.  I'd be more concerned with damage at that point, though. Your eels are small and you don't have a lot of HEAVY hitters besides them.

Be mindful of the "Allies can only be 1 in every 4 units". Hate that rule, but you have plenty of units.

Other than that, have fun! Would love to see some non-Deepkin painted up to join a Deepkin force. Could be fun!

Hey I'm new to aos and im wanting play a 2k list of BCR and Orruks. Atm I'm thinking of running a base Braggoth with a extra unit of mornfang and grunta and a maw crush.  Was wondering what yall think of it.

From my understanding, the Maw Crusha cannot  be allied into BCR and is not in the battalion, so you would lose all your Battleline and BCR allegiance...

If you're fine with picking up some genetic battleline like some Savage Orruk squads or Stabbas/Shootas from Gloomspite, then it might be able to work.

  12. Because you can't cast the same spell twice in a turn, having 2 Loremasters may be a bit redundant. Of course, the spell is powerful, so having a backup isn't bad. An Archmage on Horse has a neat spell that can buff multiple units and they can keep up with the Pheonixes.

If you keep the extra Lore master, than an endless spell can put him to good use. You can do Quicksilver Swords and Shackles for variety, or Aethervoid Pendulum for power. But a Razordon can be fine, too.

Overall, seems solid. Frosthearts are still very powerful, as are Phoenix Guard. You got the staying power, so if you play the objectives right you should be a strong list.

  13. 7 minutes ago, Zanzou said:

I am not following why you would think that.  Why would anything that can optionally be taken by any army to buff themselves be free?  If this were free it would no longer be "optional", it would be basically mandatory for everyone to have it on the table at all times otherwise they just voluntarily gimp themselves.

You mean like every terrain piece for all the latest armies? The Carnel Throne, the Gnawholes, The Herdstone? No matter if your army can really USE it, all of those terrain pieces are free, but still very much optional. You don't HAVE to take it, but they are free.

I am not saying I WANT it to be free, I mentioned all of them should have SOME cost to their buffs, but this feels like a free Terrain piece, just for everyone that doesn't have one. Maybe it would replace the Faction terrain piece so people can't have both, but my guess is that it will be free. We shall see soon enough.

GW seems to have a skaven in their rules team I think. A lot of the terrain we see gives a bonus for keeping a hero back in the deployment zone and basically not moving them forward so that you can get the bonus. The Pernumbral Engine is one such terrain feature, IF you can get it to earn you the command point; if not then its sitting them whirring away giving you a re-roll on saves of a 1; but at the same time its a static terrain feature deployed in your deployment zone; so unless the enemy is alphastriking you in turn one chances are that ability won't be "as much use" since its going to fast be behind the actual battle lines.

So your'e taking it for the gamble of a free command point each turn; but at a sacrifice of the mobility of at least one hero unit from your army. Now granted if you can pair this with the Fane and then a Slaanesh Infernal Enrapturess it might be a good thing.

They've not mentioned a points cost; kinda hoping it has one as I don't really want every single army ever fielded to want to take one just because you can.

I mean, it is 12" within the terrain piece, and I assume it can be placed in your territory, so that is a decent place on the battlefield to cover. Perfect for a support character or wizard. It doesn't have to be the hero who is USING the command point.

Overall, seems solid. Place it near a backfield objective with a wizard and a blocking unit, either keeps them alive or starts giving you command points. My only problem is it is a bit harder to build around with it being random. Would have loved it being able to switch like Cogs or something.

I have a feeling it will be free, which... should be interesting. Otherwise, people would complain that "their" free terrain piece isn't free. I do rather wish they had SOME point values, but hey...  I am intriguied. It does kind of push me back towards my armies without battletomes, see how well I can abuse it, but not to such a degree that I am going to start buying more models. Forbidden Power is already SUPER expensive for what is in it, IMO. I might try my hand at scratchbuilding some of the spells...

  16. Right...Middle Earth... Oh.

I know I hyped this a bit, but the big thing I was looking forward to was just which other Battletomes they are pushing out next... Seems so weird.

I DO like the new Chaos Warband, though getting a look at the Warcry models in a display case makes me more and more worried they are mono-pose models. That MAY just be the starter set, but...well, I was kinda hoping for nothing but modular stuff for this. Customizable warbands are what makes Kill Team so fun, would hate for Warcry to not follow in that line with such an obvious potential to do so...

The lion for Underworlds makes me think of the custom Fire Aelves project I saw around here. Sorry, forgot the user, but there was some great custom Lion Ranger stuff...

I'm not sure all Forbidden Power will be revealed considering the first story building up to it was released only today... There's another preview this month, but indeed tomorrow looks like to be the biggest one before the summer

Fair. What I mean is show off all the models in it, give a brief rundown of what all the box does (endless spells, army building stuff like mercs, artifacts, etc)

Then they keep the campaign under wraps, so some stories leading to release and then a big twist in the story is revealed with the final story at the actual release of Forbidden Power, maybe with a connected surprise battletome reveal for whatever new army this expansion can lead into.

Entirely speculation, though. Honestly, I just want to know how the Mercs work so I can start planning some various warbands. Same with how Warcry works, but I know that is still a ways away.

  18. Hmmm, so if I am right, the 40k preview is at 11am on Saturday, with the AoS one at 2pm after it.

With England  being 5 hours ahead of the Eastern US, that means all the info should be out by 9 to 10 in the morning tomorrow? If so, gonna be a FANTASTIC morning.

Hoping for a full reveal of Forbidden Power, bit more Warcry, and hopefully, as many Battletome reveals as they can muster.

  19. Ok, so I voted for both Tomb Kings and Dogs of War, but what I really want is just for those basic ideas to BE some of the new fleshed out ideas of new factions.

The constructs of the Tomb Kings were fantastic! I was tempted to get them a few times over. Ironically I probably would have had a Tomb Kings force had a friend of mine been interested in ONLY them....and then they didn't play anyways. Oh well.

The Dogs of War thing was a random vote, really, because they already have a feel of that in Grand Alliance Order. I WOULD like a Free Cities tome idea, and a themed general to lead them all would be awesome. (the Paymaster, in this case)

Just my thoughts. At this point, I am rarely disappointed by what GW does as a whole. They are making great models, fun lore, putting forth creative ideas and trying to put the hobby and story first. All of these are great, and I only wish for that to continue.

I play KO and SCE but have some Seraphon lying around. Never tried to make a mixed order list before; but what do you all think of this?:

    Brokk Grungsson

    20 Thunderers (Rifles)

    12 Endrinriggers (10 Saws, 2 Grapnel Launchers)

    Lord Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline

    Lord Castellant

    20 Sequitors (9 Grandstaves, 11 Swords)

    2x10 Skinks

That’s 2000p exactly; although I would be grateful if someone would clarify the legality. I have the requisite 3 battleline but they’re from different factions, neither of which is the largest in the force.

As for tactics, I megabuff the Sequitors with Staunch Defender, Warding Lantern and Mystic Shield which gets them to a re-rollable 2+ when Mystic shield goes off - IF my second legality question is answered in the affirmative, that being, can i use Staunch Defender in Mixed Order? If not; it’s still a 3+ re-rolling 1s. Anyway, the Sequitors are single file out in front, with the Thunderers 3.01” behind shooting. Heroes behind them. Skinks guard the flanks, balloon boys bring up the rear. The linchpin is the grapnel launchers. Turn 2 I will try to latch to terrain or a monster behind the enemy’s biggest force concentration and vault the Riggers behind them. Then charge the Sequitors in front acting as a hammer and anvil. Both of those units are great in combat; add in my Arcanum and Brokk as finishers and I could see it being pretty nasty. Against the few lists I don’t want to be charged by, I can use the skinks as screens in front to ensure a counter charge by my riggers.

Yeah, as mentioned, you are Basic Order for allegiance, so Sequitors and Skinks aren’t battleline. As well, you get nothing from the actual books unless it is on the warscroll, so no Staunch Defender.

So you need pure Battleline like Liberators and Saudi’s Warriors, and you need to take Relics and command traits from Grand Alliance Order or Malign Sorcery.

I'm also interested to see how mount traits will work, especially with the Lofnir Lodge.  Will all 5 magmadroths be able to the same trait, or will each have to choose a different one.  We've only seen 2 of the traits so far in the preview, but I'd imagine they would all have to have different traits.  Thoughts?

Both FEC and Stormcast also have mount traits and you can duplicate them all you wish. So, all 5 Magmadroths could have the same trait. If it works differently, that would be a shock, as two books so far have been consistent.

A (matched play legal) Order grand alliance army made up entirely of Free Peoples units is still an Order army. if you want it to be. If you had an army that you couldn't take without filling your minimum battleline slots with Demigryph Knights and Greatswords, only then would you be forced to use it as Free Peoples faction army.

The examples given in the errata, Order Draconis and (pre Skaven battletome) Eshin both have allegiance dependant battleline, and (at the time of writing) did not have allegiance abilities of their own. In both instances they are faction armies without faction allegiance abilities of their own. The purpose of the errata is to allow factions who do not have their own set of allegiance abilities to use their grand alliance allegiance abilities instead. An army made up entirely of Free Peoples units, with minimum battleline slots filled by Freeguild Guard, Handgunners, Crossbowmen and Archers is not by default a faction army, and can be played as a grand alliance (and by extension) Firestorm/Free City army should you choose to.

The most recent Firestorm errata even uses the example of an Anvilgard army made up entirely of Stormcast units. 🤷‍♂️

Wow...the fact that the Firestorm errata uses full Stormcast as an example just throws this into craziness.

The last line in the above errata was the one that mattered the most: "If Allegiance ability exist for a faction army, you must use them." That means you can never have a Stormcast army that uses Grand Alliance Order rules, at least for that. They have an allegiance ability, you qualify for it, thus you use that. FEELS easy, until the Firestorm errata that mentions that SPECIFICALLY.

Personally, it feels like the example they gave was just poorly thought out. I would bet that they MEANT use that as an example of "use the factions that are listed on each city to build them. The rest are allies." Them saying an army made ENTIRELY of Stormcast can be Anvilguard, I think that was a poor choice?

Either way, the two errata conflict. You NEED to use Grand Alliance rules to use the City rules, but you CAN'T use the Grand Alliance rules if you have access to a faction allegiance ability. I feel like the General's Handbook errata overrides the random example in the Firestorm errata, simply because one is a rule and the other is an example, they just chose the example poorly.

Of course, this all just highlights the overall problem of Firestorm and allegiances. It is just...confusing. I REALLY hope they clear this up with a Battletome, or at least a clearer example in the General's Handbook. For now, guess it kind of depends on who you face. Personally, I could care less, though I do prefer the idea of a Free City army mixing more than not. But whatever floats people's boat.

    Hi everyone !

I do not know if this is the right topic, but I will give a try 😃

I wish understand how much could be difficult&expensive converting some of the FEC units like both of the Horrors/Flayers and the others heroes. I will trying to explain a bit better : my idea is to  themed the army around Chamon, the realm of Metal( or maybe Ghur but I am not too sure) ,and I do not like the thing to own many similar models....

    Here there are few questions:

    1) how big are the heads of the Crypt Horrors/Flayer and which I could use as alternative?

    2) Which kits/sprues can "get along" with that ones of FEC ? Especially when comes to armors pieces? ( Even 40k )

    3) Any suggestions about a "non canonical " scheme of colour than could match Chamon ?

    4) Just the bases could be enough for " unify " the army ?

p.s. thank you in advance for yours answers

p.s.s. sorry but the English is not my first language

p.s.s.s .I do apologise in case the is not the appropriate topic.

Was thinking of an alternative myself to Horrors and such. Ogors would be the right size, but have little to NO dynamic poses, making them look stiff. Up to you on that one. Terminators I think are way too small. Stormcast as well, though Stormcast shoulder pads and other armor bits might fit in a few places.
