I'd go for this or Mirrorshield (which is kind of in favour at the moment v flamers etc). Classics. I agree that you don't want to lose Staunch. Obsidian Amulet (4+ spell ward) can also do work.

No realm artefact custom rules are harder against the factions further back in the battletome cycle - there's not much choice for us in the tome when comparing to the malign sorcery stuff.

I don't remember all the variations I tried, but there was one with 6Desolators and it packed quite the punch too.

Can't recall but adding in 6 Desolators means you remove the prime and a drake so probably:

Oh... Is Lord Kroak good for Stormcast now?

In Starcast very good, in other builds he has something to offer too - but he is dear. Starcast is already going for expensive/few troops so you're ready to make that sacrifice.

Guys, love the thread, love the lists. Got myself my first Stardrake and a Prime to try it out and looking forward to painting them. But could we maybe keep the first post of the threat updated with all the viable lists we have collected so far? Because as it is, it is pretty hard to find all the lists that are being discussed here giving that the thread grew quite a bit.

This is a good idea! I will try to do so after work.

OK so, I brought the StormKroak list to a 3-games tournament on TTS here in France (first game on Friday night, two today). This is different from the League which I mentioned before, which will run for a few weeks.

My list, if anyone needs to see it again, was the following:

    Les Etoiles Mourantes
    Marcvs
    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals

    - Mortal Realm: Aqshy
    LEADERS
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    - Tempest Axe
    - Mount Trait : Storm-winged
    Knight-Incantor (140)
    - Spell : Azyrite Halo
    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Staunch Defender
    - Celestine Hammer
    - Artefact : Ignax's Scales

    Lord-Castellant (120)
    Lord Kroak (320)
    - Allies

    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1 x Grandhammers
    5 x Liberators (100)

    - 1 x Grandhammers
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1 x Grandhammers
ENDLESS SPELLS / TERRAIN / COMMAND POINTS
    Everblaze Comet (100)
    Umbral Spellportal (70)
    Quicksilver Swords (30)

I bring home a 2-1 result and 9th place, which, once you factor in that this is my first tournament and the Stormcast situation, is… not bad. It was also the best placement for Stormcasts -the other two SCE lists being some variation of Shootcast. Many thanks to all those who gave me advice on the forum, and of course, particularly to @Turragor

The list felt good and fun to play, although it plays quite cagey (especially in the first rounds) and strategic. Here’s a short writeup, happy to give more details if you’re curious.

Game 1: vs Nighthaunt in The Better Part of Valour. Major victory (22-2), tabled my opponent by t3. This was a good matchup (all those fragile heroes…) but in all honesty I think the victory (or, at least, the distance) comes largely from mistakes of my opponent who developed the typical tunnel vision for the Celestant. In fact, this is the scenario which I find more difficult with a Starcast list, as it’s way to easy to sneak in a 10-men unit and just burn my objectives. Oh well, a lucky draw for the first game I suppose.

Game 2: vs Tzeentch (yes, Eternal Conflagration and Changehost, 2 drops, 12 flamers, 2 exalted, 20 pinks) in Three Places of Power. Major Defeat (22-0), got tabled by t3 (with both Stardrakes dead on t2 ). This was a very unlucky pairing, as I think I would have had a good chance in this scenario against most other armies. It could of course have played better and have a little bit more luck (a double turn in t2 would have helped to hold on a little longer) but still, this list feels just too powerful for my army / present skill level.

Game 3: vs Ogor Mawtribes (but not a full OBR list, only one stonehorn around). Major Victory (27-14) and opponent tabled in t4. I was quite confident when I saw the list (lists were only revealed at the moment of the pairings). Managed to kill the small heroes (Butcher, Tyrant) on t1 and to tie-in the Stonehorn with the Templar after he charged a poor unit of liberators -while killing him with MWs. The ogor ability on objectives made for a stressful mid-game (I was behind by t3) but ultimately I only lost a single unit of liberators so in the end I had more bodies than my opponent :D

    Great stuff!

I've played Tzeentch once with Starcast (pre-kroak) - scenario Duality. I felt I could keep a lid on him then but I think having so little objectives to focus on was the big thing. The list was also not the gnarliest.

Great results for you though, Tzeentch would go through most of the lists out there so losing to them isn't exactly a problem -SC just aren't 5-0 right now so we could interpret you result as a 4-1 in a longer tourney :P

What list/faction won in the end?

Man I want to try to get my head round TTS now, I think I have the base game installed... yeah

People around here are starting to organise events on TTS so I will be bringing the StormKroak list to a 3-games tournament this weekend and to a 6-weeks league. For the second, 6-players pools have just been drawn and... I have a bad feeling about this :D

Pre-Kroak I'd have been very worried but with I'm a bit more confident you'll have a good showing. Play carefully!

Win rates of 50% indicate good balance in the whole game. Your numbers indicate win rates of 50%.

    What is wrong?

I think ppl try to shoehorn the win ratio in an example of what's wrong with SC but that's not really what's wrong.

It's not even the range of lists that is a problem:

    • I've been tooting the Starcast horn most of last year (and Kroak makes it pretty tasty now).
    • Shootcast is always the recommended choice by 90% of SC players.
    • A lot of desolators and ballista can be a good build.
    • Dracolines are good. Gavriel can still surprise.

There are tweaks on each, maybe not enough to constitute another "option".  Still, these usually give good results to good SC players. Some better performing armies have fewer choices.

I think the main source of bad feeling is the deadweight in the tome in terms of warscroll options. I read some players of other factions complain that unit X or maybe unit X, Y and Z are no use.

SC need extra letters in the alphabet to write similar summaries ;)

Thank you! I blanked on that one. I forgot I had chosen a specific Stormhost from a previous example. I'm reasonably new to AoS, still getting used to army composition. If I don't choose a named Stormhost I can still select any trait/artifact correct?

Correct, generic Stormcast can choose freely

I've been flitting between armies, but it looks like Stormcast Eternals are going to be the one I spend some time getting ready for the table. I love the idea of these Starcast lists, and they match up with what I have (basically) after a trade and some buying of stuff I like the look of/want to paint and play. I don't have or really want Kroak, so here's my attempt at a list variant from the ones I've read about here.

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
    - Stormhost: Celestial Warbringers
    Celestant-Prime (340)
    Knight-Incantor (140)
    - Spell: Azyrite Halo
    Lord-Castellant (120)
    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500)
    - General
    - Stormbound Blade
    - Command Trait: Staunch Defender
    - Artefact: Ignax's Scales
    - Mount Trait: Storm-winged
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Judicators (160)
    - Skybolt Bows
    - 1x Shockbolt Bows
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    6 x Prosecutors with Stormcall Javelins (180)
    - 2x Stormsurge Tridents
    3 x Evocators on Dracolines (260)
    Everblaze Comet (100)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 92

I like this - the 2 units you have in in place of drake 2 are neat - Javelin Prosecutors are an old love of mine and the Dracolines give you speed and dispell. The single 5 jud choice is interesting. I have no feedback on that - it's not good or bad at first glance.

    One thing (or 3):

    - Celestial Warbringers

    and

    - Command Trait: Staunch Defender
    - Artefact: Ignax's Scales

Are not compatible. You'd never have the trait and you'd only be able to take ignax after a battalion (giving you 1 more artefact).

To be fair it is very unlikely to podium- 4-1 at best and 3-2 on a bad day I reckon.

This would put kroak lists above anything we've got so far. All my data from Tourneys here is no SC list goes 4-1. 3-2 on a bad day is a winner imo.

I just unpacked my Kroak (he'll be in a Kroakcast list)

  12. I like the idea of 3 drakes but I think for true impact, you're probably best stepping back and looking at where the points are freed up around that traditional starcast "core".

The thing that sticks out is the comet/SC caster absence. For me this always equates to "Celestant Prime" :D

    Spoiler

    Leaders
    Lord Kroak (320)
    - Allies
    Celestant-Prime (340)
    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500)
    - General
    - Celestine Hammer
    - Command Trait: Staunch Defender
    - Artefact: Ignax's Scales
    - Mount Trait: Storm-winged
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    - Tempest Axe
    Lord-Castellant (120)

    Battleline
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandhammers
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandhammers
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandhammers

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 320 / 400
    Wounds: 83

So where the Kroak, Incantor/Comet, Drake, Drake list has a focus on recycling the comet - later in the game (when battle is joined) you'll get less impact from that comet - if you can even find space to land it without laying wounds on your own guys. Your Incantor will be laying on Azyrite Halo instead.

In this list, the late game has more comet potential via the scepter (which lets you choose range to keep things safe). Or you might have a match where you don't think the comet chip damage will take off a key piece so you use the Prime as assassin (with many CP for all out attack and charge rerolls - delaying when you need to declare you're using Orrery of fates and thus increasing the chances of 1 extra 3 damage attack getting through).

Spontaneously I feel like the Prime's weakness means it's a more risky list. It'll require more finesse than the comet recycling variant.

  13. They're baseless lol, the list will still struggle enough against some gatekeeper lists that it'll never go more than 4 wins with Kroak at a big tournament. However, I do feel like Kroak's addition could push it up to a 4-1 list for me given the amount of experience I have now, that remains to be tested ofc.

Why a relictor and not the cogs like in my list ? What would you use translocation on ?

Main thought would be obj grabbing after r3. Tbh the last 100 points are very open. I could just remove the relictor as a selection. I don't think it's important. Endless spells or perhaps the good old Heraldor could be better.
