  1. I am so lost right now haha.  I assume some "future insights" have been posted in other places?  I honestly could not care less about how powerful the rules are or are not.  As long as they stay decent when the inevitable nerfs happen.  I have honestly thought that the number of actual players who go out and buy whole new armies based on powerlevel are few and far between.

If we are OP for now wonderful.   Won't impact me much as playing games is still not really a thing.

Agreed. I have a difficult time tempering my nerves with what I read.. And it's not only on the forum, but also on the official aos posts on facebook were there is 0 moderation and the comments get even worse.. There really is no excuse. And it is not a matter of likes and dislikes. Personally I was never fond of dwarves and they are not my cup of tea but I never went to trash talk them on any forum/facebook comment or disrespect the guys who love them or go and ******/complain like the sky is falling on topics that actually have a different purpose..

I believe it is one of the main negative sides of the internet as especially in the last few years there are tons of people who hide behind their keyboards and think they can be toxic/rude/offending without any consequences.. Most of these people are cowards at heart and I highly doubt they would have the balls to behave this way up close and personal.. Sorry if that came out as a rant but I needed to get it out of my system..😅

Hopefully the next preorder will be Cursed City and they'll leave us alone.. 🙂

On topic I did some math too using the AoS Statshammer app and I compared 10 Bladelords with 20 Wardens on the assumption they will be about the same points and Bladelords will have sunmetal weapons and power of hysh.

x20 Wardens with power of hysh deal and without the bonus of fighting a unit that has charged do 16,28 damage on a 4+ save unit.

x10 Bladelords using flurry of blows with power of hysh and 3 attacks per model (so 30 all in all) do 13,33 damage on a 4+ save unit.

x10 Bladelords using flurry of blows with power of hysh and 4 attacks per model (so 40 all in all) do 17,78 damage on a 4+ save unit.

So in order to outperform the Wardens each of the Bladelords in the unit must have 4 enemy models in range.. any fewer than this and they are worse..

x10 Bladelords using perfect strike do something like 7,43 damage on a 4+ save unit. (which is what 5 Sequitors do with half the points most likely)

x10 Dawnriders on the charge fighting a 1 wound non mounted unit with power of hysh do 20,33 damage against a 4+ save.

Of course the Bladelords mathhammer is based on conjecture and assumptions since we lack the full picture but I did it to give us a possible taste of what we may be getting.. I have ordered 20 of them so I hope their points make them at least viable if not valuable.. 🙂

Do we know they are 5 to a box?  Maybe you have ordered 40 and you  just didn't know it.

And, on the subject of internet negativity, you just gotta block that out! ESPECIALLY once people know it bothers you, because the internet is like a pack of sharks that was raised poorly.

The abilities they mention seems to be taken from the generic Alligiance Abilities - Hurakan section. Battle trait and artefact. And one spell from the new spell lore. The Nation ability would say something like “does x to your Move Like The Wind trait”.

But, I also increased my plan of buying 1 x Windchargers to 2. : ). The Hurakan seem like real fun. Even if they won’t be the most competitive choice in the end.

They really bring the lore on the table with the Lumineth. So far they have done an excellent job with that.

I think this is where I am at also. It seems unlikely that mounted archers will break the power scale (see Gryph Chargers, which I also love and yes I know they are only sort of archers).  But they look really great.

Can I ask how many games you have played with lumineth so far?

Bro don’t be hateful and ask for data.

Just accept that an unreleased unit breaks the game and it’s mere existence causes the dreaded NPE.

Next I want an apology that you like Aelves and I’m not leaving until I get it!

  5. As much as I like the kangaroos, I have trouble thinking more than one box is needed.  Lots of shooting options in the army.

With all the new options, if they are decent at all, I can see a core of 20x pikes/10x archers x2, or maybe one at 10x/10x being standard.  The biggest impact on this will probably be the damage output of Bladelords.

100% agreed, and an insightful expansion on my thought. Nobody is saying the folks who make these things are not talented in their own right. It's just such a shame when skills like that are applied to such an obvious bottom-feeding effort.

We, as artists (which we all are as hobbyists to one degree or another), all copy things here and there. Cool paint schemes, color recipes, lore inspiration rather than writing our own, and so on. Some level of copying is very difficult to avoid.

The difference is the financial/business aspect. Someone else put in all the work and resources (time, money, team brainstorms, consistency checks, etc.) to produce a thing. It takes a lot to create something to sell. It takes risk. It could fail despite all the money spent too make it succeed. Heck, if folks have read my thoughts on the GW gargants, they know I really like them but abhor their price to the point where they are one of the very few models GW made that I wanted and yet refuse to buy. That said, they absolutely should charge whatever they want! They put in the work. They took the risk. They should set the terms and reap the potential reward.

Then some lazy, unoriginal idea-thief decides to simultaneously waste the skills of their team and take a reward they in no way whatsoever earned.

It's cheap. It's dishonest. It's morally and creatively bankrupt.

Reward those who put forth honest effort and innovation, not lazy hacks.

So. Yeah. That's my thinking on that.

Morally bankrupt for taking someone else's idea and making a cheaper version?

Does that apply to Kia? What about the bag of marshmallow cereal I bought instead of Lucky Charms?

I am glad other companies exist and they put pressure on GW.  Including companies that make knock-off giants and skeletons that live in the desert.

I want a return to the idea of various Bloodlines, but I want them to fit new and interesting archetypes like the ones you laid out. So I would expect legacy characters and bloodlines to be the source of Vampirism but it would be cool if they created new characters and bloodlines in their wake. Hopefully inspiring people to model their armies accordingly. I have said it countless times but I think having the Vampire Lords work like Chaos Marks would be really cool.

Used to be like that. Even before this they had bloodline powers.

One of the things AoS (for all that I like it) does much worse than the old world is customization.

Surprisingly enough, that is exactly the model I am currently planning to convert as soon as I have spare time. I had one built for ages with the top of the staff missing, so I am now stripping off the arms and head and using spare Lumineth parts. I'm super happy the Cathallar doesn't have an actual weapon load-out, so WYSIWYG works :).

I know I want to build a wind temple-themed army, so trying to avoid stone temple until I know more about the ruleset. I'm self-employed and living off 200$/month (creating content on Youtube & writing full time), so I don't have the financial freedom (yet) to spend money on models simply because I like the look of them. I just love that Stonemage model, lol.

You can use the model without conversion at all in my opinion.

Also, just so you know the Cathallar model looks significantly better in person than it does through pictures (particularly the GW pictures).  I am not sure why this is, but its kinda crazy how much better it looks not online.  The 360 view is better than the static picture, but doesn't do it justice.

I agree it was quite frustrating for my opponent but it really was his mistake to charge the unit in front of my syar general with his mega gargant, if he had charged it with 3 man eaters (any non hero unit) or if he had focus fired it with his rocks to kill him with shooting attack he would have been fine so while it's indeniably VERY strong there are definitely some ways to work around it so it is not that over powered  ?

I agree it obviously compells the opponent to take this trait into account and find a way to work-around it so I quite like the fact that it impacts your opponent strategy and he has to adapt :)

Yeah for sure, which is why it seems just on the ok side of quite strong to me.

  10. It is my firm belief that the only reason the Syar uber-troll ability has not been changed is because not many people use it.  There are so many armies against which that ability is just insane.  Sons, Beastclaw, FEC,  Hedonites (pre mortals), etc (any army that has multiple hero monsters).  It almost makes Sons unplayable in a 1k format as people have alluded to above.

Now, I am totally ok with it, but think its probably not crazy to imagine a day when that changes from not being able to attack to a -2 to hit all other targets type deal.

Thank you, glad to hear that. ^^ I really like how the bronze armor came out. The rest, I just want to have it close to my other Zaitrec units. If not for that, probably adding a few more colors (for example the cape) might look better.

@Austin Thank you, I think these are around 10 to 15 layers of white to get it halfway right : ) (the photo also helps >>).

And that right there....is why I don't paint white haha.  But seriously looks good!

Thank you wise one I honestly wish I knew as much knowledge as you. My only experience of the old world is walking into the Warhammer shop with my dad pointing out dinosaur people, my dad seeing the price and walking out 😂

I think that this second wave of models was made or at least in the works when it was written as it seems all those shadows match up nicely. Would be cool to see it fleshed out even further however I’d also like pre existing factions to get that love more.

despite lore I’m curious as to what the lord regents named character version will be, it’s a similar build with red cloth and a Phoenix emblem on the shield and a tyrionic looking helmet so I’m curious if they’d make that Tyrion or a character from his side.

hopefully we will hear more of him in the broken realms book.

Dude I saved up sooooo long for a pewter Terradon rider back in the day the struggle was real.

  14. Isn't the new Lumineth novel coming out in March?  That is apparently about the Ossiarch invasion of Hysh, which I always took to happen after whatever Teclis did.

I haven't given up hope the Teclis BR will have interesting things happen.   I wasn't expecting Teclis to kill Nagash.....yet.

I just checked, around 3.4 on Goodreads, that seems fair, and similar to what many of the AoS BL books receive. I found it ok for what it is, the background lore, and especially his idea to use the characters to show the different Lumineth cultures, I liked that part. The story as such isn't really much to write or think about.

I wouldn't mind at all if the End of Enlightenment is better : )

Strachan is pretty decent in my experience.

Yeah 3.4 isn't terrible, and I think about the same on Amazon?  I suppose I usually look for 4 stars as a good mark, for some reason I equate that with having evened-out the 1 star haters and the 5 star cheerleaders and produced a good overall rating.  Haha, didn't expect my philosophy of book reviews would become relevant today!

Copyright laws vary by jurisdiction and I am not an expert in the subject internationally, so I do not want to outright claim you are wrong here as to whatever jurisdiction you call home, but in general the impact on the market value is one factor (typically of four) in evaluating fair use, which is something you only get to where there has been actual copying of a copyrighted work. In other words, it's a defense to what would otherwise be infringement. In none of these jurisdictions would it be accurate to say that "If sharing the information may affect the market of the book you are not allowed to share it."

One clarification I should make is that it might have been better to use the word "idea" than "information" in drawing the dichotomy between what is copyrightable and what is not. In this context, the distinction is pretty obvious, but information is certainly copyrightable if it's expressive rather than functional in nature. The point is that someone's particular expression is what is copyrightable, not the functional information laying behind that expression.

I deliberately didn't get into fair use because it's impossible to really generalize about. But you don't need to worry about that if you aren't copying without authorization in the first place, and summarizing rules is not copying. The only place this becomes  a gray area where fair use potentially comes into play is if you are reproducing word-for-word the exact wording of a complicated rule.

Copyright in major jurisdictions protects expression, not ideas, processes, procedures, mechanics, or the like. The points value of a unit, or hitting on 4+s, etc etc  are not expression, and therefore not protected by copyright in any major jurisdiction that I am aware of.  For an example of this in practice, you can read this case about a company that copied the rules for its CCG from another CCG; the judge threw out the lawsuit, making clear that rules are not subject to copyright.

    https://casetext.com/case/davinci-editrice-srl-v-ziko-games-llc-3

I don't think it makes sense to get into this topic more deeply here. My intent was simply to calm some nerves and lay out the basic framework so people can have a better idea of what they should or should not watch out for. If you want to tell people I am wrong you are free to do so, and each person will have to decide for themselves whose information is accurate.

To the person who asked, I am an attorney, but not a copyright attorney. Nothing I wrote here should be construed as actual legal advice, and you certainly shouldn't take my word for it simply because of my qualifications; it doesn't matter what someone's title is, what matters is the accuracy of what they write.

I’m not going to lie when you added that part at the end, I felt it in my spirit.

I found it ok/good. It does have a bit of lore around the Alarith, mainly though how they think (the protagonist is an aspiring Stoneguard with two Stoneguard sensei), less so about the organization of the temples, although there is a little bit of it in there. What I liked most about the novel is that the author basically takes the pictures of the Wardens from the 4 different GN in the BT, makes a character out of each, and introduces the 4 distinct cultures through those characters. The novel also has a proper villainous villain. There is also a pretty interesting encounter with an Endless Spell, and so on.

The storyline isn't very surprising, and like many other BL novels, the author does like to show how introspective their main character is, but I found it an easy fun read all in all.

I have been on the fence about the book for a while.  It does not have very good reviews on Goodreads or Amazon, but I want it to have been good.

It’s probably worth noting that you can be uninterested in matched play AoS as a Thing and feel like the dominance or weight of tournament play fundamentally isn’t good for the game or hobby and still feel like this is a half-assed rush job by a company that knows people will grumble, suck it up, and keep buying any old whatever.

Wrong.  You must post a long discussion of the QUALITY of the models, the OVERREACTION that people are having to a small faq (even if that is actually the source of the complaint), wait did I mention the models are FANTASTIC.

    ?

Or, if you are like me, you can wonder what any of that has to do with a company making statements that are blatantly untrue.  Though if I were them, I would be quite comforted to know they can say anything as long as the models are GREAT.

@Ogregut GW didn't give many of the reasons you listed above.  They didn't say, AoS doesn't need an FAQ.  They didn't say 3d edition is coming soon.  They didn't say, hey covid prevented us from getting this done (just delayed).  I think if they had said any of those, the pitchforks would not be waiving.
