It is interesting that GW didn't release a Cities of Sigmar/Dawnbringer Crusade split with new models in this box. They could have kept the same lore, and even had one five person unit of Stormcast.

This is also my personal opinion and experience
1 - As much as GW wants Stormcast to be Space Marines, it dosent work like that. Space Marine's (which is not my cup of tea at all) have decades of fans, lore and support. Like I mentioned in the rumor thread, I personally don't see that many Stormcast players. Lumineth, Ossiarch and Kharadron seem to be the most popular factions in my area. I'd be interested to hear what factions are popular in other peoples group/area.
2 - Kruleboyz are an unknown and only a Sub-faction. I wasn't around when 2.0 dropped but I'm sure Nighthaunt were perceived as a full faction with ongoing support. Again using my local gaming group as an example, Kruleboyz didn't get much excitement. Again using my local gaming group as an example we have a bunch of Ironjawz players and most were disappointed with them. They dont really fit in next to his boyz is what one player said. GW also has not done a good enough job showing what else is in store for the Kruleboyz. Before 9th edition launched they had teased the full line of the updated Necron faction.
I know GW has been convinced by 40k that their "Poster Boy" faction needs to be in their starting box but back in my day the Fantasy boxs had Lizardmen/Brettonia, Empire/Orcs, Dwarfs/Goblins (my personal favorite), High Elves/Skaven. I wonder how much more successful it would be if they had more fan favorite factions like Lumineth, Kharadron (or Grungi's new Dwarfs), Ironjawz or Skaven.I did not even think about that. Can you imagine the hype if they had put new Skaven in the box?

The box set looks really good to me in terms of quality, but I did not order it for a couple reasons.
1) - and most importantly- I am REALLY tired of the fear of missing out games GW seems to be pushing lately. As soon as they tell me I have to order quickly, I am just not going to do it.
2) I want to wait for multi-part models, I just prefer them.
3) Even though I think the models are great for the new Orcs, I am not going to play them or add them to my Lumineth (obviously). Whereas I can use the Stormcast for my Settler's Gain project.
I do want to say most of my reason for not getting it is the frustration I have generally with GW at the moment. Their quality is at an all time high for sure, but the FOMO games and (as I have said elsewhere) the incredibly customer unfriendly death of digital codexes and battletomes have made me reconsider the level of support I give them.
edit
I just don't know enough, and haven't been around an LGS, to have an opinion on the general reasons why it didn't sell well (if true). So these are just my personal reasons that may be the same as others.

This is a super over-exaggeration, at least based on what we know today They really aren't taking anything major away and putting it behind paywall.... let's recap:
Animation - Brand new stuff. Ok sure they hired Astartes guy, but honestly it's their IP, and his creation was violating their rights, so I'd say he got a good deal.
"Vault" - Access to old publications included. New publications still sold as normal not behind paywall.
"Exclusive miniature" - How many "event exclusive, store birthday, only for sale on warhammer.com for 5 minutes at 3am" minis are there already? I suspect these will be on ebay for reasonable enough prices...
"Apps" - In USD anyway, this is the same price i already was paying for 40k app. I get that and the new AoS app (surely another $5 a month) included?? this alone makes it worth it.
"Exclusive shows" - This one probably irks me the most. "sorry Darren you have to shut down your youtube channel that you really enjoyed and was great value to the hobby, so that we can put a similar thing behind a paywall". but a lot of this is going to be new content they weren't already doing.Let me ask a genuine question. You believe the app as it stands now is worth money? Such that you are excited for the transition from Azyr to an AoS version? I am actually wondering why if so.
I mean 5/5 to GW for showing me I don’t need to use my entire iPad screen. But for most companies I would say it’s embarrassing?

Oh man I forgot the best thing about the current 40k app- it is one of those amateur apps that the iPad version doesn’t even fit the screen. Can’t wait for that for AoS.
Actually maybe I’m more amused that someone convinced GW to pay them to ‘work’ on an app that already existed and more than likely make it worse. It would be more funny if it didn’t negatively impact my enjoyment of the hobby but it’s still funny in an ironic way.
-
Very bad news I think for anyone who likes the current app. The 40k one is not good, and has been out for a while.
Who is telling them that moving AWAY from digital battletomes is a good idea?

Thing is, new sculpts generally mean new rules and in turn new points costs. Surely if it was true there’d be something more... well, noticeable?
That is for sure a possible sign its not true. I just don't think we can dismiss the rumors entirely yet. Soon maybe.
-edit for news
Also, Valrak just posted a new GK action figure. The other action figures from 40k have been races that got new sculpts (Necrons, SoB, Primaris). So more evidence for the AoS parts of the rumor to have a chance. Just a chance!
I know it is a bit off-topic but it is directly related to the rumors so mods be kind plz!

The 4chan rumour is most definitely a pile of Squig-droppings, mainly due to the detail (there is no way anyone high enough up to know that much would go on 4chan of all places) and the fact that it claims the Grey Knights will get “all new stuff”, which has been proven wrong by Chapter Approved.
See this is where I think people are wrong. I don't read that rumor to say GK is getting new TYPES of models, but that they are getting new SCULPTS of models.
He/she who wrote the rumor made it clear they were talking about how one half of the battleboxes would get new sculpts and one would get one new thing. The GK rumor was the same as the BoC rumor in the same spot. New sculpts, not new types.

Would anyone be so kind as to post what the 4chan rumor was about? It seems I'm not the only one not knowing about it.
I put it up a few pages back.
5 hours ago, Clan's Cynic said:I can't remember a time that a leaker has ever given a schedule for more than half a year in advance - I think the last time was, ironically, the existence of AoS and maybe the Primaris model that led to three months of "it's a third party conversion" talk.
If the 4chan 'leaks' are real I'd be very, very, very, shocked considering they go all the way up to 2023.
I agree with this. Although, knowing a story direction a couple years out seems possible but that would be a huge leak.
Its more that I WANT those rumors to be true, and they haven't been dispelled yet. Like I said, if GK v 1K comes out and its not what they say....then we can put it to bed. Or the batteltomes they say are coming. It is a very specific rumor and easy to toss if it doesn't hold up seems like.
Until then I want to believe in new BoC and the Empire human refresh so badly.

This is basically disproved btw.
I don't think it has been.
We will know when the GK and 1k sons come out.

As much as I want to believe that Whitefang meant Idoneth were coming....that 4chan leak did say Maggotkin were some of the first to get new battletomes.

Which is a pity, if you ask me. I really like some of the themes. For instance, seahorse eel conversions look really good.
I don't even know what is happening right now. @Whitefang you are a cruel (krule?) rumor overlord, but I just can't quit you.

I have to admit, the prospect of rot-squids vs fishy-squids is appealing. But them sea lads need some more sculpts.
Based on the reaction my poor Idoneth will continue to sit.

So people were upset for days that they wouldn’t be able to buy the dominion box. Then everybody got the box without much problems. A few happy and positive post later people start complaining about warhammer+
can we go back to being positive?
I mean you could be happy about one and not the other? I got my rulebook- very glad I was able to do that. The new book looks amazing. But, I am worried about the lack of digital option. I have seen many people ask about it on various platforms and they've been ignored by GW. As others have said, the 40k app is poor compared to AoS. I very much enjoy the format and full digital books.
So, what is on my mind right now is concern about an upcoming preview by GW, which seems appropriate for the rumor thread.
And can I just offer that people being happy they were able to give GW money for a new product is sort of a sad state of affairs in general? When did it become praiseworthy for a company to provide product when they say they will provide product?

there was nothing new for Grey Knights in the Munitorum Field Manual 2021 MkII which was suppose to have been release after the New Codex for them and T-sons came out first and that book had the points for the new T-son Infernal Master,
most likely what this mean is that they are getting one of their Fincast character redone in plastic (Cowe, Stern, Draigo, or the Brother captain) but no new units like the rumor had said they would. (which i find suspicious because the guys use this fact to justified the BoC (all new units- very sus)/Gloomspite (only one hero) box for some reason)
Hmm. I think we are still in the 'wait and see' stage. If the Grey Knights thing comes true....exciting stuff for AoS on the horizon.

that was a 4chan rumor and was really sus since it mention Grey Knights would get more unit and i believe that was already proven wrong
What?? The Grey Knights part was proven wrong? Link plz.

Betting Warhammer + will have all digital rules on subscription.
The real question is what will happen to the 25 digital battletomes/campaign books I have on their current app.....

No sign whatsoever. GW has been mysteriously silent on this front. They haven't mentioned the app once. My worry is that it might tie in to the the Warhammer+ announcement on June 23rd.
I did not realize that was coming....man I hope they just leave Azyr and the AoS app alone. Love the digital products, and the app is quite good (most of the time). Far superior to the 40k one.

Oh whaaaat!? I'll have to re read and comb through those pages once again!! Are we talking pics of minis or references in the lore itself?
Everything takes time mate!! You'll get there.
Can’t be pictures. Unless we all missed it. The stories are pretty good though!

Did we ever sort out whether the digital editions of AoS would survive into this new edition?

So i went 3-2 in a tourney with my List got 16th place overall mainly had a hard time getting secondaries done. Stonemage did work Entomb is super worth it dealing with OBR or Tzeentch killing off the Hekatos or banner for pinks
I really liked that you tried out that list in a tournament.
Let me ask you this- how much utility did you get out of the 3 inch additional shots from the Roos? As in, how often did you you get to use it and how many at a time?
-
That release schedule would be very sad for a number of reasons. Seraphon and Skaven need a ton of new models.
On the other hand I am excited for new semi normal humans and perhaps a few redone kits for BoC.

That’s kind of irrelevant? You still have to buy the physical book for 40K so you have the lore in that. The app is a gaming aid and doesn’t need to have the lore
I couldn't disagree more. In a time when every other company gives away rules for free- the lore/art is what makes the books worth it.
